A unique experience which makes you feel incredibly lucky and special. It isn’t cheap (to say the least) but it is wonderful from start to finish! We went the whole hog and dressed up in formal attire which made the whole day seem really special (most people did the same). We were lucky to be with friends who bought afternoon tea and dinner during the (90 minute) interval which just added to the occasion! If you have an opportunity to go the. I would encourage you to go for it if at all possible.

It is somewhat weather dependent, but if you are fortunate to have warm dry weather then a visit to the opera at Glyndebourne is a very special experience. The gardens are beautiful, take an indulgent picnic to enjoy and you will have a memorable time even if you are not a real opera fan.

What a wonderful afternoon at stunning Glyndebourne. A superb production of Kat’a Kabanova, by Janacek, moving, terrific lighting and staging, marvellous direction, acting and singing! Go see this - it’s a real treat. Thank you Glyndebourne.

I'd never been to the Glyndebourne Opera House and the staging of the new youth opera "Uprising" presented an inexpensive opportunity to see it that was too good to miss. The ultra-modern, circular theatre is a wonderful sight. Lots of pale wood makes it warm and welcoming. The gallery seating is so steeply pitched that your view is not blocked by tall people in front but you feel slightly dizzy at the high angle. The sound quality is excellent at the back but opera glasses would be useful for a glimpse of far off detail. Hats off to the young performers and musicians who were impressively talented. The organ room of the Edwardian house was open to theatre goers as were the gardens but they were a little stark in early March.

An excellent summer opera experience. To picnic and black tie for this festival is always a great experience!

It's one of the most perfect experiences I've ever had - and that’s saying something. Yes it's super expensive and for most people not something one can afford to do a lot - but wow was it worth it. We took the from train from Brighton to Lewes and had lunch at Bill's in Lewes. Then caught 2pm coach to Glyndebourne. It was a hot sunny day and we didn't go for formal dress thankfully. However lots do so it's all very elegant. It's hard to describe the experience other than to say it's unique. Basically you get to see an opera of the highest quality in a stately home that had magnificent grounds and gardens. Most people picnic or have restaurant meal. We didn't but I think next time we would. The opera , which in our case was the Merry Widow - was beyond splendid. Extravagant in a beautiful way. You get a 90 min interval to eat and relax. The venue never feels crowded, we never had to queue for anything and prices for drinks etc were reasonable. If you get a chance and love opera - just do it. You won't regret it.

Excellent But the restricted view seats for the latest production are not restricted view! They are zero view for key parts of the action! This needs to be addressed!

Yelp
A chance to dress up in a ball gown, sip champagne whilst sitting beside a picturesque lake in the grounds of a stately home, enjoying the summer sun, and that's before the performance even started! A birthday treat, I was bought tickets to go to Glyndebourne to the opera. None of us had ever been to the opera before, but thought since you should experience it at least once, you might as well do it properly. Not only did we get to enjoy listening to our first operatic performance (and it is very good), we also revelled in the chance to enjoy a luxury picnic (purchased by us in advance), whilst enjoying the last rays of summer sun. Well worth a visit - for the sheer experience if nothing else

Yelp
Glyndebourne is a glorious treat - see an opera or concert in stylish surroundings, dress up (if you want to), bring your own food & wine and picnic in the beautiful gardens or dine at their restaurants and drink champagne at their bars. It can be as pricey or as cheap an event as you want because there is so much flexibility. During the summer season opera tickets can be expensive - but for a treat worth shelling out for. Highly recommended.
