Secrets and seascapes on the Indonesian island of Nusa Penida - SilverKris

"A cavernous, sacred underground temple reached via a narrow natural stairwell in the hills above the eastern coast, where worshippers must hunch or even crawl through a low-roofed entrance before emerging into a vast, incense-clouded chamber that runs hundreds of metres into the earth. The site contains seven separate shrines and hosts full-moon and new-moon ceremonies; outside, priests bless celebrants with holy water and rice grains, and deities including a fertility goddess (revered as the mother of a powerful local demon) are actively worshipped." - Theodora Sutcliffe

I would not raccomand it, as I really think they have many others better temples to be visited. When you park nearby the entrance you have a couple of people waiting for you. After they got your attention, whistling at you, they charge you 10K rp to rent the Sarong, and that's ok. Then you climb up a really demaged stairs to reach the main entrance, and over there, there is another group of men asking for an "offer" 100K rp, ther's not any sign so they force you. The entrance of the cave is particular but really narrow so not everyone can get inside. In my point of view the cave is nice, but you would expect something suggestive, instead it turns out to be practically empty. Monks were sitted looking at their phones (formula 1 race) burbing and phlegming. Probably is in their culture but, in the end the feeling is that of having left them money without having had any nice experience in return.

Beautiful temple, great to explore the caves you cant really see, heaps bats in them, soo cool, I found at least 4 extra caves to explore, definitely worth the visit, but opening to access is very small, but there is a large back entrance, not sure if you can access it this way thougj

Do not miss this if you are at Nusa Penida, the ride from Toyakpakeh is straight and roads are smooth, unlike Gamat Bay or Kelingking ! As is the case with all bali temples, wear the religious white gown, sarong, to cover your legs. It closes before sunset! The entrance is a narrow rock opening, but once inside, the massive cave temple feels magical and serene. The atmosphere is peaceful, with traditional Balinese rituals and offerings adding to the charm. It’s a beautiful blend of nature, culture, and spirituality. A must-visit for those seeking a cultural experience beyond beaches.

Great little activity to do if you have extra time on the island or don’t want to just see beaches and cliffs. You must wear a sarong but you can rent it for 10k if you don’t have one. The visit doesn’t take long but it is something impressive cultural to see on the island that is special. Entry fee is 45k per person and it includes a little water sort of cup with a straw.

Unique and special temple! The entrance is very small, so please bear in mind you may not fit if you have a larger body. There is a larger entrance at the back, not sure if you are allowed to enter from that side. This is a big, long cave system that begins with a ceremony and has more areas and ceremonies inside. Sarongs are available at the shop across the street from the stairs.

Goa Giri Temple is a hidden gem with a mystical cave atmosphere and stunning views inside. The entrance is 50K IDR per person and you’ll need to rent a traditional costume for 10K IDR to enter. The entrance is a tight squeeze and there are plenty of bugs and spiders, but once inside, the beauty of the temple makes it all worthwhile. A unique and spiritual experience!

We got lucky enough to visit this place during a ceremony. Such an atmosphere in a closed area, not full of tourists. 10k/p to rent sarong, 50k/p for the entry. Worth more than everywhere else we've been.

Foreigners are often asked to make a donation(50k), but try to avoid as it's not mandatory. The place is peaceful and beautiful, definitely worth a visit. If there's a Pooja happening, do try to take part.
