"Art with a Global Reach The German cultural institute's Hong Kong branch provides a platform for local artists and photographers to promote and showcase their work, and for the public to visit, for free. Aside from hosting exhibitions by local artists, you'll also find weekend markets with local designs on sale. A continuing roster of courses, projects and shows, along with a film archive available for public use, also encourage cross-cultural exchanges."

Study my German here, it was the best experience. It's cost a lot if you're not HK resident but it was worth it. They have nice library and in the building there's even a piano downstairs you can play.

It has an excellent library. Costs a bit of money to join though if you are not a student ($150 per year in 2018), but I think it's worth it, as it has the more German resources than the public library.

Great place to learn German. The German government is said to pay 50% of the operating costs of Goethe-Instituts worldwide, so their prices can't be beat. I took classes there for a semester and the teacher was more than capable of teaching. I've called the front desk and emailed their support staff a few times about some course issues, and their attitude and competence were adequate, although somewhat lacking in friendliness.

Best german course I ever had including the ones I had in Europe. Was not expecting the teachers to be this good- very impressed by the quality of teaching provided by Frau Weizel. She was very attentive and passionate and each lesson was very interesting! Admin services can be a bit slow but they keep you updated on time.

Joined the free German taster course and so much fun. The course is very interactive and the teacher is really nice. I learnt how to introduce myself in 1 hr. Excellent experience.

I enrolled for the courses and the next day I had some urgent thing coming up which I'll be away and can't joint the course on my chosen date, however I wish to change my starting date. I sent an email and I call to the office not less than 20 times from 10am to 12:30 pm all I got was " our office close now..., open hour Monday start from 11am and Tuesday to Friday start from 10 am, please call again during office hour". There is no leave massages option and always no one answer beside those machine message above. When is the office hour exactly? I am still looking forward to have my courses there!

Rubbish experience. Went to see what exhibition they had on, at door asked for program, lady seemed confused. Said I'd like to know what i was looking at. Blank face, head down non-reply. Interpretation is the heart of good curation - totally absent here!

If you're interested in German culture, particularly art, this is the place to go in Hong Kong. The institute's gallery features new exhibitions every month.

Yelp
"Willkommen beim Goethe Institut Hongkong!" Hong Kong is an international city and sometimes if you do not speak more than two or three languages, you may not be that of a competitive candidate in the eyes of employers, especially pretty much everyone hear speaks 3 languages already including English, Cantonese and Mandarin. If you are looking for a foreign language to pick up, and you are a big fan of Europe, try German. If you have decided to learn German, I have at least heard of two places in Hong Kong that are well-received. One is Goethe Institut. Located on the 14th floor of Art Centre in Wanchai, it is a non-profit German cultural association and it has branches over 159 countries to date. It mission of course is to promote cultural exchange and the study of German language. At times you may see some exhibitions at the gallery next to the reception that provides more information on German culture. There is also a library where you can borrow German textbooks, books, CDs or DVDs so that you can fully immersed yourself at home. As for the quality of the teaching, I have to say that it highly depends on the teachers. You will be expected to have a new teacher in every new term (which lasts around 9 to 10 weeks), therefore, chances are you may know quite a few teachers. Personally, there are quite a few good teachers there unfortunately I cannot go into details here but all I can say is they are i) a very funny male teacher who can make the class rather interesting; ii) a young male teacher who writes down the articles whenever we are introduced to a new noun; iii) a tall female teacher who comes up with interactive games to play with us, iv) a female teacher who sounds really professional. Though I have to admit it is not much useful to know German here in Hong Kong but who knows, it might come in handy one day and it certainly looks rather dashing to be able to have basic conversation in German; that might go a long way.
