Gold Comb Barbershop North Park

Alex gives great cuts. After a few poor experiences with my old barber, I decided it was time to move on. I prefer scissor cuts, which can be a little harder to find around town. Read online that Alex gave great scissor cuts, so I gave him a try. After my 3rd consecutive haircut with him, I'm confident I found my new barber. Thank you, Alex. Always a good feeling walking out of your chair with a smile and a great looking cut.

My daughter gifted me with my 1st haircut with Nick, and he did such a great job that I am headed back for my 3rd! I have thick hair and his hard-undercut "bob" keeps it obediently turned under. Not your usual barbershop cut, but great! Another hairdresser passing me on the street complimented me on it.

Ronnie hooked me up with a sweet, classic clipper fade for my wedding. I really appreciate their looking out for me and all their great work!

Being new to the area the first thing I looked for was a good barber in North Park. Gold Comb was one of the top options so I decided to make an appointment and see how my hair turned out. I loved the vibe of the place and everyone there was super friendly. My hair turned out perfect. I will definitely be coming back again soon.

Gizel did an amazing job with my hair and beard. I hadn't gotten a cut in some time and told her that I wanted something that was easy to maintain. She worked magic with very little direction. She did the same with my beard. Came out looking great!

I needed a cut for my wedding on friday. DJ took great care of me. I told him what i rhought i wanted, he adapted it for the wedding pix and explained why very clearly. Honestly, I never leave reviews on here but this guy deserves a little recognition. Ill be going back to him for cuts in the future.

There's a lot to be said about getting to know your barber and them getting to know you. I've been seeing Cruz for years now and have followed him to Gold Comb from his previous shop. I'm pretty particular about what I want in a cut and can't always translate it into words, Cruz does a great job of taking my ideas and making it work. I always look forward to sitting in his chair and knowing I can trust him with the mess of a mop I usually present him with, that's what an artist does. Cruz is your guy...

I'm not one to do negative Yelp reviews, but after two failed cuts, I feel like I need to let the salon know in order to get it together and able to work on their employee's training and technical skills. When I presented multiple photos (including an entire Instagram account of the persons hair). To leave the salon with my hair looking like this and being told "wash it out at home and first cut is always tricky" is not acceptable. Didn't even use any products to style my hair after as well. First photo is what I asked for, second photo is how I looked leaving the salon. You be the judge and decide if you think it's appropriate.

Neat barber shop with a very North Park feel to it. Minimalist environment with a clean look. One of the staff here (Britt) cut my hair previously at another shop. She is talented and gives some of the cleanest fades in town. She also has a skilled hand with the scissors and always leaves my top even with room to grow out evenly. That's how you know you have a great barber cutting your hair. Staff here was friendly and welcoming being my first time checking out this place. The parking can be tricky as Target claims a whole small lot next to the shop. There are paid lots nearby but there are free 2 hour spots on the street you can keep an eye out for. I got lucky and got one about a few hundred yards from the shop.

This place is the best. Super friendly staff. They know exactly the best way to cut my hair. They should get a bigger place and have a bar because it's the kinda place you want to hang out at. This is the place to be in North Park!

This place used to be dope but ever since Brittany left I wouldn't be so confident going here. Walked in today without a mask. I didn't realize the mask mandate applied to vaccinated. (No big deal part of the world we live in) but it was more than problematic. In front of other customers I was singled out, told "I'd offer you one but we're out" and left feeling awkward in a situation where I already was skeptical of entering. I think this was the last straw for me, but clearly my business isn't wanted there anyway. Plenty of other shops in the area who will at least offer solutions. (A simple "hey brotha unfortunately you need a mask if you can go grab one and come back) This was my go to spot. No longer.

I've been getting my haircut from Brittany for 2 years now. When she started cutting hair at The Gold Comb I had not been to the barbershop before. I had an excellent experience, the atmosphere felt very relaxed, nice air conditioned large room, nice ambiance, the other barbers were really friendly as well. It's located in north park, I thought parking would be harder then it turned out to be. The real gem is the attention to detail and great cuts from Brittany. For years I had tried different hair stylists but I always felt the cut was subpar or didn't suit my hairstyle or facial shape. I found Brittany through multiple great Yelp reviews and I'm so happy I did, she nailed my hairstyle and got it looking better than I even knew it could. Great stylists, relaxed cool environment, conveniently located, I don't know what else you could ask for from a barbershop! (If it's not obvious already I really recommend seeing Brittany as I can personally vouch for her awesome cuts, the other barbers seemed pretty good as well, everyone who was there left with a good cut)

I love the attention to detail, the vibe in the store and more than anything the look. Also I just needed a reason to upload this awesome picture. What a beard.

He has cut my hair for a long time now, and I've seen him do numerous styles! Typically, I only get my hair cut every two to three years, but when I do get cuts, I only go to Cruz. You want a sweet comb over? Cruz can do it, a rad mullet? BAM! What about a sweet style made perfect for your facial structure? Cruz will do whatever it takes to give you what you want, and make sure you look badass while doing it. I know we're going through covid-19 right now, but this man is sanitary, safe, and extra precautious! Once we have worked through the pandemic, I'm sure he'll be doing beard trims and mustache trims once again, along with shaves. I can't say enough good things about this dude! Seriously, check him out!!

Just moved to the area and lucked out with this place plus it's a 5 minute walk...got hooked up with a great cut from Sabrina. She's efficient and asks questions throughout the cut making sure that she's understanding my preferences. Happy with the result and will definitely be back.

Went to Gold Comb recently for a quick haircut and it was a great experience. I appreciate their adherence to being as COVID safe as possible. I had my hair cut by Britt who was extremely friendly and down to earth. But almost more importantly, she is extremely talented! I showed her a photo of what I was looking to get and she easily achieved what I was looking for. Not only that, she gave me a good amount of tips of how to maintain the look I want, styling, cleaning etc. I will definitely be back in the future!!

Excellent haircuts! Britt always does phenomenal work. I have been getting haircuts from her for quite some time now, and do not plan on changing that any time soon. She always has me looking and feeling my best after a haircut. The Gold Comb Barbershop is located in an accessible and convenient part of North Park, and inside it is professional looking, well spaced apart, and filled with natural light from the large windows. I am happy to have my hair cut there, and when you do go, don't forget to ask for Britt!

I've always preferred to get my hair cut at one salon. I could pick anyone in there and they would always give me a cut that I was happy with. I had made the decision to attempt to grow out my hair over the course of a year and during that entire time, I hated the way I looked. I don't have any pictures from that year, nor did I want to look at mirrors. However I was determined to follow through with my decision believing that it would pay off in the end. When I got back into the city for the holidays, I decided to go back to that salon as I wouldn't have the opportunity to get my hair cut at my preferred place. I got paired up with a new stylist who completely fucked up the cut. Despite the fact that I had waited a year to do this, I'm not someone who feels compelled to demand satisfaction. I try to just roll the wave of whatever comes, so I tried to just get used to the new cut for a day or two. When I was walking through North Park, I passed by the shop and quickly peered in through the window. I hadn't been back into the city in awhile so the newness of it struck me. The logo on the window was simple but eye catching and the interior was inviting. There was one person inside who I made eye contact with and I quickly looked away and sped past. Barbershops always made me feel uncomfortable which is why I've always gone to salons. I never felt "man" enough or felt like I spoke the language enough to fit in. But I went home that day and looked through their website and instagram. The vibe was different from some of the more established barbershops in the area and that compelled me to schedule an appointment. It had that hipster minimalism but without the pretension. I sat on the couch and watched the other clients getting their haircut. Listening to their conversations I started to get that tinge of anxiety that I usually do in anticipation of having to perform socially. It was 10 minutes past the specified time and I started to get worried that I had made a mistake. I approached one of the barbers and informed her that I had an appointment. She acknowledged and offered me a beer in return. I inhaled it to settle my nerves. Travis called me over and began to survey the damage. He asked simple non-judgmental questions about what I was looking for. I mentioned that I had just gotten my haircut and it wasn't what I wanted and he said, "I wasn't going to say anything but this is..." "It's fucked up," I said for him. One of the reasons I preferred to go to my usual salon is because I don't feel obligated to talk. I can just sit in comfortable silence and watch them work. Travis immediately made me feel comfortable enough to not only speak, but made me feel compelled to speak. He had such an unassuming and pleasant personality that disarmed the defense mechanisms I've developed in previous shops. His open and candid manner of speech facilitated an easy and engaging conversation that I hadn't experienced in quite some time. When he was done I was ecstatic over the results. It doesn't hit you how gratifying it feels to look in the mirror and like what you see until you deprive yourself of that feeling for over a year. The skin fade was excellent and the side part didn't require a lot of product to get a good shape. He was kind enough to knock 10$ off the cut due to the fact that it was a fix job (which was honestly my decision to do but I'm still grateful at his consideration). The whole experience was revelatory in rekindling not only my self-esteem, but reframing my perception of barbershops. This isn't a dis to the other shops. Everyone has different comfort thresholds. But for someone like me whose always felt like the odd one out, it's nice to go to a place where the people don't have to try hard to make you feel like you belong.

My brother recommended this shop to me and and my last 2 haircuts have been with Travis. He is a great barber and a super cool dude. Both times he has delivered a great cut and did what I was looking for. Great shop and great customer service.

I still get my haircut and beard trim from Monica! We just had a 3 year anniversary! The hair is a little grayer but still cut to perfection! Monica knows what my hair needs even when I can't articulate it! They moved locations recently to a bigger spot right around the corner at 3880 Grim Avenue! The space is awesome. Definitely check it out.

I've been going to Gold Comb and having Adam cut my hair for the last four years. I've never had a bad experience or cut there! I love the layout and the atmosphere of the building too. Definitely do not hesitate to book an appointment with Adam. If you're not able to get in the same day the wait will be worth it!

I've had two haircuts here and both were fantastic. My first was with Travis, who was super friendly and provided exactly the cut I wanted, and my second was with Britt Huntridge, who recently started at the salon. I actually had been seeing Britt at another salon pre-Covid and was thrilled to hear that she joined Gold Comb. She is an amazingly warm and comfortable person to be around, and she even remembered me as soon as I walked in which made me feel great. We immediately picked up our favorite conversation topics as soon as I sat down as if no time had passed, and she delivered a superb cut (as she always does). I feel so lucky to have two top notch barbers/stylists nearby and at the same place!

I've been getting cut from Cruz for years now and had to follow him from his old shop in PB to North Park; he's the only dude I can trust to get it done right. I've got some pretty tricky, thick hair to work with, but he's got the skills to do whatever simple or wild cut he needs to do for his customers.

Gold Comb is the best barbershop in North Park and one of the best in San Diego. I have been getting my hair cut here for the last months and can honestly say they are great. Travis, Monica & Adam can do any cut you need and have a great schedule to choose from- just call to make an appointment.

Best haircut! I've been going to Adam for almost a year now. He really knows what he's doing when it comes to cuts and he also gives the best advice for styling my (difficult) hair. I bounced around to a few barbers in North Park before I found the Gold Comb, but I'll no doubt be sticking with this one!

It took me a while to be comfortable with going back to a barber shop. When I finally decided I took the first appointment I could find anywhere which brought me to Gold Comb. I was matched up with Cruz and pretty much told him to do whatever he wanted for the sake of looking like a human again. I was NOT disappointed. Apart from everyone being spaced out and masked (much appreciated) everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Cruz gave me a cut I would've never thought to ask for and I'm obsessed with it. 10/10!

Great location to get lunch before/after your appointment. It more than just the great hair cut. It's about putting time aside for yourself for self care and mental clarity. And Gold Comb provides. I always come here when it comes time to get a fresh cut. While I prefer my barber, which is what first drew me to this location, I have to say this is my favorite spot they've had a booth at for the atmosphere and general dynamic of the crew. I've never received a bad cut and I'd have to say everyone I've seen walk in there walks out looking fresh. Combine that with wonderful service and dope jams and I continue to recommend this shop to all my friends!

My grandson was staying with me for the weekend and I wanted to surprise his mom by getting him a nice haircut. I decided to make a whole fun afternoon out of it. Instead of going to some boring hair salon, I set up an appointment at this local barbershop. It was so fun! They even gave him a "shave" which he got a huge kick out of. When I was younger I would let my hair grow wild. Now that I am older I like to keep my hair looking clean and tidy at all times. It has almost become an obsession of mine. Luckily I live right up the street from Gold Comb barbershop in North Park. I seriously don't know what I would do without them. I come here every Friday, after work, religiously. It is therapeutic for me. I get to chat it up with the barbers, releasing all the built up stress from the week, and getting a fresh haircut at the same time. It's a win-win!

Travis is the man. He's been styling my hair for a couple years now. I have frizzy, hard to manage hair, and he's the only barber I've been to that knows how to keep it tame. The shop is clean, prices are fair, and you don't have to wait if you schedule an appointment. Highly recommend if you live in the area!

This has been one of the best experiences I've had at a barbershop in a while. Adam did an amazing job of listening to my wants for my cut, but modifying them to address my needs. What was impressive was how well he was able to see what kind of issues I had with my previous hair cut (certain parts would refuse to stay in place), just by looking at my hair. The details for the location itself are perfect. Great, minimal but hip decor, excellent music choices, and the friendliest barbers I've run into. This place isn't cheap, but the value well exceeds the cost! I look forward to my next cut here.

This review is long overdue. I'm not sure why it hit me to write it now but.... oh yeah, I just looked at myself in the mirror and damn my hair looks good! Adam cuts with precision and always takes his time. When he left his old spot to start Gold Comb with Monica and Travis I knew his commitment to his craft was only going to get stronger. Adam cuts my hair, my buddy gets his hair cut with Monica, and I hear (and see when I'm in the shop) that Travis is gifted as well. You really can't go wrong at Gold Comb. Enjoy your cut... Gold Comb is just plain awesome. The barbers are top notch people and killer at what they do! It's literally the only place I trust to cut my whacky curly hair, so much so that I've been following these barbers around for over 5 years. I've had my hair cut by at least 4 of their barbers, and the cut always comes out clean. They can even hit you with the hot cream razor finish around the edges. Don't waste your time going anywhere else, this is the spot!

I have followed Linzy here from a few different shops. I can't say how happy I am that she found this gem, as the last one sucked!! The Gold Comb is mellow and comfortable.
