31 Best Places to Visit in the USA (Updated 2025)

"In Deadwood, Gold Country Inn is a kitschy, cheap downtown option with a mini gambling hall on-site, free Wi‑Fi, and free parking — nothing fancy but perfectly adequate for exploring the town and nearby Black Hills." - Matthew Kepnes

Food was fantastic. Second day in a row I have eaten here. I came in 5 min before close and they whipped up breakfast for me. If you want great, classic breakfast in Deadwood, make sure you swing in!

Benjamin M.

Google
The service was friendly and excellent. The first room didn’t have hot water so they got us into another right away. Cozy, clean, cheapest rates in town! Good stuff. The diner has THE BEST breakfast! Giant old-style diner pancakes, corned beef hash with perfect crispy edges… Love this place and will be back.

Google
Rooms are dated and could use a really deep clean. Bed was comfy though and its location to downtown is great. Items we missed in the room...bath mat and a mat in front of door as floor was lino and it had rained so tracked in a lot of dirt from parking area. 😳

Lauren

Google
Great location within walking distance of the restaurants and casinos. Cute, clean and simple room. Comfy bed and warm shower. Great place to rest your head while exploring Deadwood

Google
We ate at the cafe and WERE NOT disappointed. The food was great and the prices were terrific! We had the Cowboy Benny, Corned Beef Hash, and the Chicken Fried Steak.Don't be put off by the appearance. The cafe was very clean, the service was top-notch, and the food was worth every penny and homemade!

Google
For the price these rooms are great. Clean and well kept. One of my favorite stays so far on my trip. Would come back. Breakfast was amazing!! Our waitress was very friendly also.

Google
We wish we'd spent the extra money on a nicer place to stay. We've stayed in outdated and small places before and that's fine, the real issue with Gold Country is how moist and dirty the room was. The carpet felt damp and everything had a sticky/muggy feeling to it, including the bed. It smelled very musty and just felt gross to be in. The AC unit was dying and made an awfully loud sound when running. The cafe is mid, I do not understand all the raving reviews for the food because it was the same as a Denny's. We'll never stay here again.

Google
Extremely old and needs a serious upgrade. No bed side table on one side of the bed, room was super tiny, only one chair in the room, no dresser of any kind for your clothes. Could have been cleaner. Bathroom tiny and not fit for two people. We won't stay here again. Restaurant food was okay, service nothing special. Traffic was very loud from the highway behind the hotel.

Yelp
Honestly if I could give zero stars, I would. My husband and a friend of ours went here last year when leaving Sturgis and loved it. This year I went and it was complexly awful. Everything from the attitude greeting at the door to paying the incorrect tab amount. It was awful. It took us a minute to find parking and finally found a spot up the street. We walked in and immediately the lady said how many people, we said 4 and she then said 'Well we have a limited menu today. You can get a breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich or biscuits and gravy'. All of us were fine with that and said that is okay, then she looked around the room and said 'Well it is going to be a while' and then walked away. Not even a hi when we walked in the door, just straight to trying to drive us away. I went to the restroom and as I came out a table of 5 people that all had biscuits and gravy was being sent back the kitchen. That didn't look good since that is what I wanted. I heard the server ask the cook if he could heat them all up. I guess they were all cold. I could deal with that. We stood around waiting for about 15-20 minutes and the I walked over to their tiny casino area and threw in $5 to waste some time. Finally the same rude chic said to us that she had 2 high top 2 seat tables if we wanted to split. We were tired of waiting so we took them. Then we waited and waited. We watched several people come in and wait to be greeted and never spoken to, so they leave disgruntled. We waited maybe another 15-20 minutes watching other tables wait for their food and even their drinks to come. We finally got asked what we wanted to drink. We got iced tea each and ordered our limited menu breakfast. And then we waited FOREVER. The table next to us finally got their food in 2 waves with about 5-10 minutes apart. The server said the cook cannot make the gravy fsst enough. Honestly, they shouldn't have the biscuits and gravy on the menu if it takes that long. And why couldn't they have a basic breakfast, eggs, hash brown ham or sausage and toast. This was literally the items on the sandwich or the burrito. Would have made things easier for the cook. Our food finally arrived. My husbands breakfast sandwich looked amazing and it was steaming hot. My biscuits and gravy were good.... at first. One biscuit was light and fluffy but when I got to the second biscuit it was completely burned on the bottom. I couldn't even cut it. I gave up. The server gave us our tab and charged up for an omelet and hash browns for $13. They didn't even have omelets available! Then when my husband questioned the bill and the server started arguing with him. How are you going to charge us for something you don't even offer? It was ridiculous. Overall we were there for almost 2 hours which cut in to our drive time to come back to Denver. Thanks, but I won't ever be back.

Yelp
Awesome diner vibes. Super quick service and friendly staff. The menu had all the classics, and the food was delicious with huge portions! Highly recommend stopping here for breakfast when in deadwood.

Yelp
Delicious food - fun cafe atmosphere. Definitely lives up to "best breakfast in Deadwood"

Bob B.

Yelp
Another gem in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and yes I think they DO have the best breakfasts in Deadwood...(at least one of the best in town...there is one more that's in the running for this claim too.) Food was good...service was a little slow, but they were pretty busy the morning we were in there with only a couple people working the floor. Do I recommend this place...definite YES! Will I be back again...definitely.

Yelp
Hubby was on the hunt for chicken fried steak, so we popped in on our way out of town. He really liked it. His eggs were cooked perfectly and the hashbrowns were buttery. He really liked the gravy, I thought it was a little too sage-y, but it worked for him. The steak was nice and crispy and held up well with the gravy. I had pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The eggs were ok, but the amount of bacon was nice. Most places only give you a couple of slices, but I think they gave me 4! It was pretty tasty bacon. The pancakes were ok. They were really big, but nothing fancy. The folks were nice.

Yelp
Love the cafe and had both breakfast and lunch on 2 different occasions and everything was perfect including the hash browns and onion rings. Love the staff! They may get busy and it make take a few minutes but be kind and patient... slow down and enjoy....

Wanda

Yelp
Food was good but service was terrible. Asked for coffee her response"where were you when I said everyone raise their hand if you want coffee." Still did not bring us coffee. No tip for her. They were not that busy. I usually will tip but not this time.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast. I had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns. My wife had strawberry French toast. They were kind of busy but service was fast and as friendly as possible considering the crowd. Clean bathrooms. Good place for a quick bite.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Service is good , you can't take things personal haha. The ladies are hard working and are working as fast as possible to get to you, come in to eat and leave your attitude at the door. Great breakfast food .
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
Came in for breakfast when I was in town. Staff was very friendly, sat us right away. A nice selection of items on the menu. Ended up grabbing breakfast because it's my favorite type of food. Got eggs, toast and home fries. The eggs were buttery and tasted good, home fries were decent. Very tasty food. Prices were fair. Would eat here again if back around this way.
google avatar

Sally Jo T.

Yelp
Food was large portions, service was quick but lacking on being welcoming. Felt a little rundown in style.

Candice L.

Yelp
This place is not welcoming to visitors or people who are a minority. They let two other families go before us with no excuse other than " you need to continue waiting for a table." They let 2 parties of 4 go before us with no excuse as to why. The "hostess" was rude and seating other people before us. Absolutely no reason and an atrocious attitude. Just in case the Gold Country Inn Cafe "hostess" reads this and does and clearly needs to be educated... atrocious means of very poor quality, or extremely bad and unpleasant. You hostess woman, radiate these qualities!! If you didn't have tourists you would not have a job!! Remember that!! Our waiter on the other hand, was amazing and extremely apologetic. She is the only thing in that place that got 5 stars.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
Service was amazing, these ladies are on their game. I had the standard eggs bacon, potato and toast breakfast with my eggs as close to poached as possible, I think she called them braised? Nevertheless they were delicious. Cozy little spot inside a hotel that I will hit up again next time I'm in town. Great breakfast and hot coffee
google avatar

Roxanne B.

Yelp
Good local food that came out fast - no complaints. We had to move hotels because of an event and I was definitely happy that there was a restaurant on the property.
google avatar

Bruce M.

Yelp
Our waitress was very friendly, food was great! It was clear there were a few slackers on the wait staff that were nothing more than obstacles for those making an actual effort. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Sally R.

Yelp
We stopped for lunch as we were driving back from Devil's Tower. It was too rainy and snowy to sightsee in Deadwood but we still had a wonderful lunch. Our group of 3 had corn beef hash, salad with chicken, pancakes, eggs and bacon. The pancakes were described as "the best restaurant pancakes I've ever had" We walked in about 30 minutes before they were closing (1:30pm closing time) but were welcomed warmly and our waitress was attentive and chipper without hovering. And even with iced tea and a soda, the total was $33. If we're ever this way again we'll definitely come back.
google avatar

Debbie E.

Yelp
They claim to have the best breakfast in town, and I believe it! Friendly waitress, several locals dining, and great food. We had pancakes that were as big as the plate they were served on, nicely done scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, and creamy biscuits and gravy that also covered the plate. A short car ride from downtown and breakfast is served until 1:30pm, when they close for the day.
google avatar

Yelp
In Deadwood for a couple days. We were looking for a spot to have breakfast, and Gold Country Inn Cafe popped up and was close to our hotel. This place also says it's a "casino ". Nope, not a casino, I think they have 6-8 machines. Small cafe, but don't let that fool you. We were seated quickly and offered coffee right away. I ordered the Western Omelet and my husband ordered 1/2 order of Biscuits and Gravy. My omelet was full of ham, peppers and onions. It was so good. My husband said his breakfast was good, but that the biscuits tasted "almost stale". Can't complain about the price tho. 2 meals and 2 coffees, the bill came to less than $20.00.

Yelp
This place was perfect and delicious for breakfast! Very friendly, laid back, and welcoming staff. It is a classic diner who is frequented by locals. It was so nice having a down to earth home town vibe with tasty food and warm coffee. My cup was never empty and our belly's were full. Would highly recommend and the price was just right!!
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
This place had such good reviews we had to give it a try. It was just okay, the atmosphere sucks and the dude sitting at the register looking at you is weird. Plus they put 2 people at a 6 person table and another guy at the other end of the table, you could tell they were not happy. Now for breakfast it should be fairly simple to not mess up eggs, but my wife's eggs that she asked for over medium came out hard. The hash browns were crispy on one side and cool on the other, like they forgot to flip them. But my omelet was really good. Not a great experience, should have known when it was attached to a motel.

Yelp
I just stayed in deadwood this weekend and we got to check this place out! We loved it so much that we came back both days to stay here! This place is extremely affordable food and it was delicious! I got the full order of biscuits and gravy and it was around $6.95. Or you can get the half order and its $3.95! They have a variety of food options like omlettes, sandwhiches, and pancakes. Also the service is FAST! Great spot to get some breakfast food!
google avatar

Wesley F.

Yelp
I had the biscuits and sausage gravy with scrambled eggs and a side of bacon. The restaurant is dog friendly! We brought our golden retriever in and he was very well behaved. Good coffee, good service, an excellent breakfast. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Welcome to Deadwood. Apparently there is only one place to eat Breakfast. I love this town though. Good Country is located all the way at the top but it was well worth the walk. It was super busy inside while the tourist intermingle with the residents. Had the Spanish omelette with hash browns and wheat toast. It was an omelette with Pace Picante Salsa and a table spoon of sour cream. But it was delicious. Also had the small order of biscuits and gravy and that was amazing. Everything is made off a short order grill so it will take a little while if the place is busy. But you have to give it a try especially if your staying in town.
google avatar

Jay W.

Yelp
Really good service and great food. This place is super clean also. Western Omelet and hash browns were perfect.
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
Big portions of food especially the pancakes. They are as big as a steering wheel. Very delicious too! I'm glad we stopped in on it road trip.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Not enough seating area in restaurant to meet demand. Was given the choice to wait 20 minutes for a table or eat "family style" by joining a table of strangers for breakfast. We declined and left without eating. Not exactly the nicest restaurant, more of an old grungy style "Grandma" type restaurant. Looked to be the only business open in town serving breakfast, hence the wait for a table. If the restaurant was nicer and wasn't as run down, I might consider eating at a table full of strangers. But the run down exterior and interior made me only question the type of persons frequenting this establishment. And it would not be appetizing to have to watch strangers eating next to me at a shared table.
google avatar

Deborah K.

Yelp
Had breakfast here and stayed at the inn as well. staff is great, super friendly, bacon is yummy, Will definitely make this a place we return when visiting Deadwood. Love the place! Older building, but very clean!!!!

Janice Y.

Yelp
We had very good food and service while at the Gold Country Inn Cafe. The service staff was very efficient.
google avatar

Sandi W.

Yelp
We've been to Deadwood twice on vacation and both times we had breakfast here. Both times we had the same waitress, Karmen, too. Karmen is constantly on the run in that little restaurant and I get the impression that she runs the whole show. While she isn't one to chit chat, she gets the job done. While the food was decent, the coffee really wasn't anything to write home about. While waiting for Karmen to wait on us we got to chatting with the gal that was checking people into the motel that was attached. I didn't catch her name, but she was real helpful in giving us information about the trolley that ran thru town. This place was filled with locals and wasn't anything special, but it served us well.

Jessica G.

Yelp
We stopped here two days in a row to get our day started. Laid back local spot with a quick filling breakfast.

Amanda K.

Yelp
Food wasn't anything extra, but a good breakfast. Prices were super cheap also. You don't see that anymore. Good quality. Service was over the top. I did not catch her name. But she was great!! Great place for a quick simple breakfast.
google avatar

Angie P.

Yelp
Great homestyle breakfast. Pancakes, omelettes, french toast, bacon, hash browns, everything is on point. Tried some other places in Deadwood, including legends, but this was the best breakfast at the best price, by far.
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Great home style cooked to order breakfast. Fun local place. Not amazing atmosphere just good solid food. Would return and service was quick and attentive. We came late to breakfast/early for lunch, so not packed but still had people coming in. Like finding off the path spots not so mainstream. This did not disappoint. Dive type local fare. Loved it!!
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
We ate here for breakfast during the Sturgis rally, we only waited about 5 minutes or so for a table. Service was great! Food was quick & delicious! Can't wait to come back next year!
google avatar

Marissa C.

Yelp
Food was fine, but we waited 45 minutes for our breakfast, once we ordered, for 1 x pancake, 1 x piece of French toast and 2 x bacon and egg plates, so nothing crazy. It seemed like they were bringing one plate out every 10 minutes, the service was soooo slow and considering the reviews we were expecting more. Also ordered a kids milk $3 for a small take away cup size they charge all drinks as large which wasn't appreciated as it was most definitely not a large and they refused to change it on the check
google avatar

Teresa W.

Yelp
The service and food was super fantastic. I'll go back if I'm ever in Deadwood again. The food was perfectly cooked just like we ordered it. Our server was amazing and I have nothing but good things to say
google avatar

Christene J.

Yelp
Worst service I've ever received. Waitress grunted at us when we said hello. Pointed to a table and said sit there but I'll move you of others come in. Turned and walked away. Wow! Thanks but no thanks. We will go elsewhere.

Belle G.

Yelp
First disappointment with yelp. Place smelled like urine. Dated. Food okay Reviews appear manipulated and falsified. Save your money. Go by your first instinct
google avatar

Heather F.

Yelp
Quick. Well prepared diner food. Great price for proportion size. Pancake size of a dinner plate.
google avatar

Linton C.

Yelp
Everything was amazing! The best breakfast in Deadwood. I loved every item on my plate. The service was great. Fast. Clean facility. I highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast. They serve breakfast all day. Which is great.

Laura S.

Yelp
Really awesome place with great customer service. They never stop moving and continuously come around to fill coffee/ water. It looked like they also got their COVID operations down to a T. After someone left their table they wiped it down, disinfected all the condiments and chairs and wiped down the menus in between. the food came out fast even though they were super busy! It is a old fashioned diner breakfast, nothing fancy but tasted delicious. One thing to note is that you need to put your name in the list when you enter if there's a wait.
google avatar

Tamara S.

Yelp
Lori isn't the nicest person to greet customers who appear to be tourists. Although Kesha was amazing she made up for what Lori was lacking
google avatar

Taylor D.

Yelp
Go here. The review could stop there but that isn't enough for most folks. The food is fantastic, our waitress was fantastic, and the service is quick so you can get to all the amazing attractions in the area. So like I said, go here.
google avatar

Danielle J.

Yelp
A little trek out of the way from downtown main street and well worth it. It's a legit local cafe. Food took a bit, but was 100% worth it. I'm southern, and I don't think I have had better biscuits and gravy ANY WHERE on the GRAVY. The check in for a table process was a little wanky, but thankfully there was an open table. If not, you will probably be waiting a while. Big portions, and really a true traditional local diner setting and options, so if you are used to hipster selection, this isn't for you. The service was so much fun and warm, making it feel like home. Truly excellent food and service.
google avatar

Roy V.

Yelp
Solid choice for breakfast. Everything we ordered was great. There was a line, that's no problem to me... Just means it's a good place to eat. Would totally come back.

Kris T.

Yelp
Excellent service and breakfast is by far the best breakfast you will find anywhere! The pancakes are big enough for two people to share, bacon is crispy, along with the hashbrowns. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!!!
google avatar

Deana W.

Yelp
We came here last weekend based on the Yelp reviews. It didn't disappoint. The food was great!!

Tris W.

Yelp
Awesome breakfast! Food is wonderful and service is great! French toast is amazing! !

Randy L.

Yelp
Have had breakfast here in the past and was ok,however this time the food and service were far below average, eggs over cooked to hard, hash browns very crispy on top and almost raw on bottom, bacon a minute away from charcoal, server took order and brought food and never came back but seemed to have time to sit at next table to talk about her vacation plans for the next day.prices high for quality of food, would not recommend.
