We had a great time. The tasting menu has enough items for the adventurous and those less so. The music and show were fun. Loved the face painting. We didn't get to play the drums but did get to dance.

The vibe, energy and setup is great. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. Starters were ok… they brought the food in very chaotic and no sense of order. All the mains were bland and not interesting. The dessert was equally disappointing, cake was dry and fruit sewer sad. I was charged double for drumming and waitress was only interested in how much her tip was. The entertainment was mediocre. Expected more.

An unforgettable experience! The multi-course meal offered a delicious taste of Africa, with each dish representing different regions of the continent. From the vibrant ambiance to the live entertainment and interactive performances, it felt like a cultural journey. We were welcomed with African face painting. The staff and performers were warm and engaging. One of the highlights was joining the interactive drumming and dancing—so much fun! We highly recommend Gold to anyone looking for authentic cuisine, great vibes, and a truly immersive African dining experience!

This place should be visited by everyone who comes to Cape Town as it’s an unforgettable experience. The African drumming was really fun as we got to learn how to play traditional music whilst the drummer on stage was both comedic and uplifting. The food was also spectacular as we were able to go through a 14 course dinner, all of which are from different parts of Africa. My favourite was probably the Namibian Venison Pie as it reminded me of my favourite beef pie from school but light years better. I also enjoyed the bread with the aubergine dip in which I believe was from Morocco. I had to eat another portion of bread because it was too good 😅. Suffice to say, the food was magical and delicious. There was also other forms of entertainment such as traditional dances and also the playing of traditional instruments which gave us an immersion into a culture we’ve never experienced before.

Visited 7/6/2025. Loved it. Great ambience even upon walking in, and vibrant performances which move around the room. Middle ground floor is for big groups so if in a small group, best get a table on the upper floor to the left of the stage because there is enough space there for the dancers to repeat their routine when they do their rounds.

From the moment I arrived at GOLD Restaurant in Cape Town, I felt warmly welcomed by the incredibly friendly and attentive staff. The evening began with an energetic and fun-filled drumming session that immediately set the tone for a night of vibrant African culture. The multi-course dinner was a true culinary journey across the continent — every dish was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully curated. Each performance between courses was colorful, authentic, and perfectly timed, allowing us to enjoy our meals while also being immersed in the cultural storytelling. The atmosphere was electric yet elegant — a perfect balance that made the whole experience both exciting and comfortable. Every detail, from service to ambiance, reflected a deep respect for African heritage and hospitality.

I'm going to start this review by saying that this was one of the most fabulous dining experiences we had during our holiday. It’s one of those establishments I’d recommend to locals and visitors in a heartbeat! Here’s why: 14-course menu, R495 p.p. – This is excellent value for money as it includes entertainment (which was so enjoyable). You’re served small plates of various dishes representing African countries, and each was incredibly flavorsome. You can order any of the dishes as many times as you like. Our table took full advantage, ordering the samosas, kandolo balls, prawn curry, chicken wings, and dessert again. And again. :) Customer service was warm and inviting, with the happiest waitresses I’ve ever encountered. Every performer and waiter genuinely seemed to love what they did, creating an atmosphere of pure positive energy! I made my reservation online. They are open seven days a week, and on the night we attended, they were fully booked. We arrived at 19h00 and left shortly before 23h00—it was truly an evening I won’t forget anytime soon!

⭐ Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) I had high expectations for GOLD Restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience was let down by poor service—especially from our server, Amanda. The venue itself is lively and the concept of a multi-course African tasting menu with live entertainment is brilliant in theory. However, the actual service was chaotic and inattentive. Amanda, who was assigned to our table, seemed completely uninterested in looking after us. She rarely checked in, looked visibly annoyed when we asked basic questions about the dishes, and made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than valued guests. While the drumming and dancing were energetic and fun, it’s hard to enjoy the show when you’re waiting ages between courses, trying to catch someone’s attention just for water, and dealing with passive-aggressive service. For the price point and hype, I expected much better. It’s a shame, because the potential is there. But with service like this, I won’t be returning—and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it unless they seriously improve their training and staff attitude.
