The view is amazing. Full bridge walk is not super pleasant because of the noise. I recommend walking from SF up to the first bridge and back to checkout the view and vibe. And then driving to vista point.

I recently revisited the Golden Gate Bridge after not being back in San Francisco for over 10 years, and it was an incredible experience. Back in 2008, I was stationed at Coast Guard Station Golden Gate, primarily involved in search and rescue operations. I spent a lot of time under the bridge during various rescues and recoveries but had never made the decision to actually walk across it. This time, my wife and I decided to explore the bridge together. We walked across it for the first time, and the experience was truly unforgettable. The views are breathtaking, and there's something surreal about standing on such an iconic landmark that holds so much personal history for me. We also went up to the Marin Headlands, which offered beautiful sights overlooking the bridge and the bay. The cool, crisp air and the stunning vistas made it a perfect day. Being back after so many years brought back a flood of memories, and sharing it with my wife made it even more special. If you ever find yourself in San Francisco, I highly recommend taking the time to walk the Golden Gate Bridge and visit the headlands. It's not just a tourist attraction; it's an experience that connects you with the history and beauty of the area.

Bring your doggy to walk in the rain. There are ponchos in the gift shop. I was lucky to find parking but it was 10am and raining. The gift shop was nice and the bathroom had slippery floors. It would be nice of them to upgrade the bathrooms but I understand the millions of people going through. There is a coastal trail. And the park app is nice to extend your trip if on the other side. If you used Google to find the bridge don't forget to take the last exit to get here.

One thing to keep in mind is how chilly it can get up there! I’m glad I brought a jacket because the wind was relentless. It was crowded, of course, but that energy from everyone marveling at the same sight made it feel special. If you go, make sure to check out the visitor center for some cool history about how the bridge was built. It’s a masterpiece of engineering, but being there makes you realize it’s so much more than that—it’s a symbol of connection and resilience. If you're into photography or just sightseeing, there are plenty of pullouts and places to stop and take in the views along Hwy 101 and nearby trails. For those walking or biking across, the experience is spectacular--being up close with the bridge's massive structure while feeling the wind and seeing the bay beneath you is exhilarating - I've been on it once, and it really is a different experience entirely. In short, while it might be a bit pricey to cross, the Golden Gate Bridge is more than just a transportation route--it's an iconic experience that should be on everyone's list, whether you're a local or a visitor.

If you envision San Francisco, you think of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's an iconic marvel of engineering and one of the most recognized bridges in the world. This is a walkable bridge so give it a try for the best views of the city. She was finished in 1937 and at that time, she was the longest suspension bridge in the world. The Golden Gate Bridge's color is officially called "International Orange." It's for visibility due to the thick fog.

Being from the east coast, it's surprising the number of times I've driven over, walked across, or just admired the Golden Gate Bridge. This time (early August, 2024), we drive across it on our epic road trip up the Pacific coast (California, Oregon, and Washington). This was the first time that our view was of the bridge shrouded in fog. Interesting to see it in different weather conditions!

Could be the most famous bridge. Golden Gate Bridge is for sure the most well known of San Francisco's many attractions, and it gets shit loads of vehicle and foot traffic. It has a pedestrian lane, so you can go across it in whatever kind of way. Be environmentally friendly and cross it by foot. The point before it has bathrooms and a gift shop so you can get stuff. Basically this is a big ass bridge that goes across lots of water to be honest. It's actually quite an engineering feat how it got made. This was built to alleviate traffic. It connects the San Francisco peninsula to Marin County. This was completed in 1937 and became the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world. A lot of traffic goes across it. It carries California State Route 1 and U.S. Route 101. There's a toll only for southbound traffic, maybe because there's not as much of the northbound traffic. For pedestrians it's all free. The only thing to pay for is parking, but you can take a bus here and it will let you off just before it. A lot of places to take pictures on and off the bridge. There's enough room for bicycles if not wanting to actually walk across the thing. Has to be on the list when on a San Francisco visit to be certain. It's one of the world's most famous structures and you have to go to appreciate the engineering. There's also plenty of great views of the bay, the city, and wherever.

Oh, I try to picture me without you, but I can't 'Cause we could be immortals, immortals The parking lot next to Equator Coffee was closed when we arrived so we went down the street to the paid lot off Lincoln Blvd. it was the kid's first visit as they say "The Baymax Bridge!" Hence the song above. They loved the Southwest side of the bridge as they have a portion of the bridge that was used in an in a test that bent. It's also the side of Golden Gate Overlook. We tried going to Vista Point the day before but the fog had other plans. If only we had Baymax to clean up the sky. You can walk on one side or ride your bike on the other. It wasn't too congested on a Late Sunday Morning. Bring your jacket or blanket for the kids. If you cross the bridge you'll have to pay the toll but don't worry there's no troll under the bridge, we checked. Enjoy your stroll!

I've been to San Francisco a few times for work now but finally made my way across the big bad GGB (by foot!) It was a perfect day for someone who loves a long walk and incredible views. Yes, you can drive, but do the walk across if you can. It's 1.7 miles across each way but the breathtaking views of the water, of Alcatraz, of the bridge itself, honestly make time fly. -Bring headphones. With the wind, and sounds of the cars is a lot but pop in some music and ~vibe~ -There is literally not much on the other side within walking distance. So either call an Uber when you make it across or just head back. I've heard there is a super cute town out there so next time I am in town I do want to check it out. Back to the East Coast I go, see ya soon SF!

What a beautiful sight to see! A must visit when in San Francisco. I made sure to get a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge while in SF, as it's such an iconic part of the city. There's so many areas and viewpoints to see the bridge from and they're all beautiful views! I made the mistake of thinking I could walk the bridge in a relatively quick pace, it took me half an our to walk from one end to the other. It's a loud but breezy walk, since there are cars driving by. Make sure to stay in your lane while walking as there are biking lanes as well that come both ways. What I really should have done is to rent a bike to bike my way to the other side while enjoying the view and bridge. Make sure to look up once in a while as you'll see how beautiful this piece of art is, while making you feel super tiny in this big world. By the time I was at the other side of the bridge, I found myself in the Golden Gate Information Center where they had souvenirs for you to buy as well. A great tourist attraction that is worth the visit!

Price - Toll is $8.75 to $9 depending on if you have FasTrak. $6.75 carpool. The icon of San Francisco! What an absolute beauty to be in its presence. The weather was perfect, the skies were clear, and this Gem of a bridge sparkled beautifully. I took my guy there, because you cant go to San fran without seeing this mighty structure. To say he was awed is an understatement.

A majestic landmark literally connecting SF to Marin county. I've crossed this bridge many times in my life, and have taken countless photos of this beauty from different beaches, parks, and lookout points in the city. But I went for a run across this iconic structure for the first time on this warm and pleasant Monday, and loved the feeling I got while on the pedestrian walkway (split between cyclists and pedestrians/runners like myself). Finding parking at the Vista Point in Sausalito was easy on a weekday around noon. Cars were loud as they whooshed by, even with music on blast through my earphones. But that didn't get in the way of the cool breeze upon my skin and the breathtaking view of the city in the distance, as well as the surrounding scenery. Even the views of the Marin headlands on the other side were lovely, but only bikers are allowed on that side of the bridge, so vehicles driving through can be a distraction. It's not perfect, but the GGB is still one of the most notable monuments that makes SF special.

Iconic. Beautiful. Mesmerizing. Exciting. What an amazing day and experience learning and walking the Golden Gate Bridge and even under the bridge to cross over to the other parking lot. So much energy from so many people from ALLLLL over the world who come to this bridge. We took selfies with random strangers and helped others take photos. It was fun. There are safety measures placed everywhere from railings, jump nets, crisis telephone lines and even bridge police to assist anyone who has needs. I am impressed with these measures in place to prevent and protect. The bridge itself is just breathtaking! It's beautiful from alllll angles and view points and to imagine all the man hours, labor and energy put into building this bridge was incredible. You can feel the rivets and metalwork that was done. The thrill f the noise from traffic mixed with the winds and slight movements of the bridge as you are walking is exhilarating. This is where lifetime memories are made. There is plenty of parking. You'll have to pay for parking and also be VERY mindful of leaving anything in your car due to smash and grabs in your vehicles. The bridge is ADA regulated and is accessible to wheelchair and mobility devices.

Definitely a spectacle and great photo opportunity. Be aware, this is the most popular attraction in San Francisco so it will be busy. Parking is limited and will be hard to nab, but seeing the Golden Gate up close is worth a longer walk. There are bike paths and walking paths. Be careful and look around you at all times, you don't want to get run over. This is a great experience and it's cool to walk the bridge, at least a little ways.

I have a confession to make... after visiting SF many times over the years for work, I've never gone to visit the Golden Gate Bridge. It wasn't until recently where I came out early for to spend some personal time in the city that I made the trek. We had booked a Muir Woods tour and part of it was stoppin on the way for a photo opp. We lucked out with great weather and had beautiful views... it really was gorgeous and I would definitely say not to wait as long as I did for a visit.

Great California landmark to walk on the suspension bridge and admire the views. The hot dog vendor food was tasty. Also there is a toll on the way back so plan to pay it online afterwards and visit Presidio nearby plus the Walt Disney family museum. Definitely a gem.

This is my love letter to the Golden Gate Bridge. I crossed the bridge this weekend, on my way to a Father's Day celebration, and saw a small dog stick his head out the window. The dog seemed to marvel at the heights of the Golden Gate Bridge, and its big red exterior. It brought me to tears to see a creature so small being able to enjoy the beauty of this bridge. To live in just the right circumstances to see the beauty of its greatness and appreciate its structure. The little dog knows nothing of the engineering fear it took or takes to keep it upright, it knows only of its beauty. The dog reminds me of when I was a little girl walking the bridge with my father and little sisters. He carried us on his shoulders, letting us take turns to peer out into the pacific and look onward toward San Francisco. I remember being cold and hungry and curious. The bridge seemed to sprawl forever, seeming as endless as the possibilities that laid ahead of me in my own young life. Now, about twenty years later, I live in San Francisco, in the city that has always held my heart. I did not know who I would grow up and be or the trips I would take across the bridge. Life has changed so much since I was a little girl but the Golden Gate Bridge has been a constant in my life, acting as a right of passage. Every time I cross the bridge, leaving my childhood home, I am welcomed with new experiences of adulthood. I crossed this bridge to travel on my own for the first time, to go to college and now I cross this bridge to come home. There is a sigh of relief, of respect every time I cross this bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is a reminder of all the versions of me, and has kept them alive. When I cross this bridge, I am that little girl again and I am also the high school girl who came to visit with friends and the college girl going to school hours away from home and the girl who lives in San Francisco and I am whoever I will become. I am so grateful to be able to live in a time where I can live alongside the Golden Gate Bridge.

How can you not rate the most beautiful bridge in the world less than 5 stars? This is absolutely the most iconic bridge in the USA and I would argue the world. It's distinct, massive, and the connector of the bay area and the upper peninsula. Of course, if you're running late and sittingin traffic, its not so great, but I would argue you actually get to enjoy the views of the city, the bay and the ocean. It's just stunning. Biking and walking are the best way to experience it. I highly recommend making a trip out there even if you're in the valley.

An iconic feature of San Francisco. I am originally from the North Bay so I took my husband and daughter to the bridge so we could walk the whole thing; and we did it! The entrance to the bridge from the SF side is jam-packed with people but less than halfway in, it clears up quickly (most people just want to take some pictures and that's it). Most cyclists are good about staying on their side (the West side of the bridge), we only encountered two while we were walking. It's a fairly easy walk (my nine year old did it with ease) and we saw lots of seals along the way, birds and plenty of sailboats, ferries and a gigantic cargo ship.

One of the best attractions in the country. Something about a large red bridge makes you want to just gaze at it. Able to view it super close by land and travel underneath by water. Certainly a must-see.

I'm so glad I was able to get a chance to see this bridge while visiting the area. We rented a car and drove over the bridge and then stopped at some of the viewpoints to get better views. I think my favorite viewpoint was taking the trek (there are ways to drive here I think) to short range battery. We walked up from vista point (it's pretty elevated so beware) but it was totally worth it for me! We also walked on the bridge just to say we did. Super fun experience and I'd definitely recommend, specifically the short range battery viewpoint.

Links San Francisco and Marin County, California. It is US Highwsy 101. You can drive, bicycle or walk the 1.7-mile bridge. Toll-booths are a thing of the past. It still costs $9+ to drive southbound & your toll is collected electronically. This is one of the national landmarks that is as enormous as you've had pictured in your mind. There are no disappointments here

Walking the GGB was a bucket list check off! We have walked the Mackinac Bridge many times and whereas it is much longer, the towers on the GGB are MASSIVE! I think they are about 200' taller than Mackinac. And it's definitely higher. We were fortunate to have a clear day and could see the city along with Alcatraz. It was awesome! Highly recommend!!!!

Restroom review: closed and locked. No stars if I could. Epic place to write reviews. A little noisy but lovely breeze and sunny today. Walk on outside of lane, bike on inside portion. No need for the beep beep box anymore as they'll send your license plate a bill for toll.

I had the incredible opportunity to fly above the Golden Gate Bridge, taking in a whole new perspective from my flight back from Honolulu. If you want to visit this landmark, pick a beautiful sunny day and you can see almost everything!

The famous Golden Gate Bridge is a beautiful landmark of San Francisco, known for it's amazing architectural feats and pure metallic red beauty. I know locals are used to seeing this bridge, but as a tourist it was quite impressive. Aside from being able to walk around the bridge, there is also some pathways before the bridge that you can walk around and take photos. I got a pretty good photo of the bridge and its views, the colour contrast of everything in the photo was tied together perfectly. On the more practical end of things, you should probably know that there is a toll driving the bridge if you drive into San Francisco, but no toll if you are exiting San Francisco. Cool bridge, would come visit again! :)

4 stars A fun, historical tourist destination. Definitely worth checking out once or twice in your life! I've been multiple times, but the visuals never cease to amaze me. It's just iconic. If you have never been, bring a jacket/sweater even if you don't think you need it. It's walkable and visually stunning on a clear day. You gotta read the signs for pedestrian or cyclist and choose the correct path. Parking on the north side of the bridge in Sausalito is easier than the one in Presidio. I don't know the major cell service provider here, but 5G was difficult for me as a T-Mobile user. Anywhoo, I'll be back soon!

Walking the bridge is a must do when visiting San Francisco. My wife and I usually walk from whatever hotel we're staying at in the city and walk the four and a half miles to the bridge. This is, by far, the best way to get a variety of views of the bridge and enjoy a leisurely and healthy walk at the same time. The surrounding neighborhoods are scenic and safe and we've enjoyed the walk every time. Walking is the best way to get to know a city and the views on the bridge are spectacular and not to be missed.

I recently walked across the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time despite growing up in the Bay Area. This is for sure a bucket list type item that everyone should fit it when visiting San Francisco! I do think the views OF the bridge from the trail while approaching the entrance to walk on are better than the views from the bridge itself. Once on the bridge, there is a wind-tunnel sort of effect going on so make sure to bring a warm coat! Overall, this was a great experience!

Having been constructed during the era of the Great Depression and grand opening in 1937 the famous SF Golden Gate Bridge has served as an American Landmark for many generations. It was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. It took four years to build. The Golden Gate Bridge, like the Statue of Liberty, is seen as a gateway into the US for those who emigrated from the east. The cool thing about this bridge is that it's divided into 3 parts . The middle lane is cars, the lane towards the city is for pedestrian walking lane , and the last lane towards the ocean is for bicyclist. I do encourage you to try the bike lane / walking as the Golden Gate Bridge is surreal and a lifetime experience. The chief engineer, Joseph Strauss, wrote a poem called "The Mighty Task is Done" after the Golden Gate Bridge was completed. It is written on the bridge. Here is how the poem begins: At last the mighty task is done; Resplendent in the western sun The Bridge looms mountain high; Its titan piers grip ocean floor, Its great steel arms link shore with shore, Its towers pierce the sky.

Aside from dim sum and mission burritos, this is quite honestly what I was most excited seeing during my recent trip to San Francisco. I mean, come now, it's the Golden Gate Bridge! It's a steel bridge, known far and wide, seen continuously on and off the screen. Here's me thinking specifically of Full House. Ahem. You should know this is so popular that they have an exit where people park to take photos with this bridge. As far as the tolls go, no idea on price, as we had our tolls paid through a pass on our rental car. Really though, when in San Francisco, you must visit. This is one piece of infrastructure that just takes your breath away on sight.

I usually walk the length of one side and back the other. My wife and daughter were on this trip, so we only did one span and hung out in Golden Gate Park. Hard to believe this has been open to the public since 1937. Being so close to where San Francisco Bay reaches the Pacific Ocean is absolutely mesmerizing, not to mention hundreds of amazing views. I was a little disappointed this visit, though. Chain link fencing obscures the majority of views that were once wide open. I guess too many people got too close to the edge........ Still an amazingly beautiful structure. Nothing beats early morning, cool walks, although this trip was downright cold and misty. Will always return to this beautiful place time and time again.

Have any visitors from out of town and want some ideas for places to take them to in the Bay Area? For sure the Golden Gate Bridge should be one of the top items in your list. The bridge's signature red pain seems well maintained to keep the bridge looking gorgeous. You could observe the bridge from two sides: from SF or from the Marin. Both will give you gorgeous views of it. On the Marin side, you could also enjoy some sort of abandoned military base near the bridge with some interesting old buildings to check out. Highly recommend!

As an East Coaster, I had to visit the Golden Gate Bridge on my trip to San Francisco. This is one of those landmarks at just doesn't disappoint in person. The views were stunning and the area was very well maintained. Fortunately, there was a lot of parking, so we had no trouble getting to the prime view. I'd also recommend driving around the nearby area if you have a car and some free time, as there are some really cool lookout areas nearby. Don't forget to snap some pictures of this iconic site! For the foodies, if you're at the bridge and getting hungry, there are plenty of hot dog stands by the parking area... and let me tell you, those were some delicious hot dogs! If you're visiting from out of town, the Golden Gate Bridge is an absolute must!

An international icon that one must visit when visiting San Francisco. Any movie, any souvenir, any art that depicts the Golden Gate Bridge, and you instantly think of San Francisco! Like the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Golden Gate Bridge is synonymous for San Francisco. Even without walking on the bridge, you can take a photo of it from many locations close to it, including various beaches, the Bath Sutro hiking path, and Chrissy Field. There isn't much to do around Golden Gate Bridge, but the pictures to prove that you've been here are well worth it!

A truly beautiful engineering marvel! Worth visiting for sure. I took the Golden Gate Transit bus from city center to the bridge. The area is very walkable with lots of look out points and interesting stories around the area. Make sure to visit the Welcome Center to learn more about it! There is a parking lot there for drivers as well, but can be quite busy. There is a restaurant nearby and also public washrooms by the parking lot.

Love this bridge so so so much. The color is magnificent, the engineering is amazing and you just have to walk on it. Bring coats during colder months as it gets quite cold. Totally worth it.

I very rarely drive on the Golden Gate Bridge, but in the occasional chance I visit Marin, I do take it. Breathtaking views and the joy never dwindles every time I'm on it. Haven't experienced heavy traffic on the bridge before so can't speak to it. Lanes are not as wide as I would like, but still manageable. Love the zipper car machine that allows for opening up more lines during heavy traffic. Can't live in or visit the city without driving, biking, or walking the bridge at least once.

This is the south side of the bridge. It looks red but, really it's deep orange. Slight up hill incline, meh. Stay to the right if walking. You will be in some strangers photo. Over all really cool weather, not too crowded Oct 3, 24'.

Today's adventure was focused on arguably the most iconic destination in San Francisco...the Golden Gate Bridge. Our stated objective was straightforward enough. Travel from Fisherman's Wharf to Sausalito...entirely on foot. While walking was permitted for most of the journey, running was required while crossing the bridge. This experience was an odyssey that was blessed with beautiful sunny conditions during our trek and the flow of the conversation never wavered as there were an endless number of things to view and discuss. While photographing from multiple perspectives over the course of several hours, we found the bridge originally dubbed "Chrysopylae" to be a mysterious subject that hesitated to ever fully reveal her entire personality. Rather, she effortlessly played the role of a coy muse! This journey offers numerous transportation alternatives. Although we chose to travel it on foot, bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, skateboards, (and Uber ) are all viable options. Our journey covered approximately 10 miles (one way), but you can "season" your adventure "to taste" and make it shorter (or longer) as you desire. However how you choose to enjoy your adventure, we'd highly recommend that you take advantage of the ferry from Sausalito back to San Francisco as it offers more tremendous views, is reasonably priced, and can make this a one way pedestrian journey. I grew up in this city. This beautiful city of San Francisco. This bridge has been the icon for ages . I know back in the day , they said that this is one of the wonders of the world. It connects from Presidio (formerly a military fort) to the north will be fort baker. Which is no longer a functioning military outpost, some building were converted to hotels and housing. Anyway, growing up I never really admired , visited or crossed this bridge like I did and do the last few years. It is so awe inspiring . When it's clear day you can watch spectacular sunset either on the bridge or the cliff (road) on top of baker beach in presidio. I take this bridge going home when I use to work down here in SF. My wife loves the beauty of this bridge as well.

Love this city and the amazing events they put on I was very lucky and fortunate I was able to get there on time before traffic started flowing in. We got to see the blue angels with an amazing view for this fleet weekend which was a blast and fantastic view of the city

have traveled this iconic bridge many, many times in my lifetime....can't believe i haven't written a review for it yet! *by car: free to cross from sf to marin county, but must pay toll to go from marin to sf. *by bike: bike lane only (check the signs), a great way to get in your workout since there is a slight incline, and take in the views (free) *by foot: my favourite way of crossing this bridge, running over the bridge and back, taking in the sounds and the gorgeous view as slow or fast as i want (free) it's amazing how "golden" the staff keep this bridge, maintaining the distinctive color year after year, thru all the weather patterns. one of my favourite places to see the bridge is actually slightly off the bridge, at a vista point on the sf side. there are less people here and you have a clear shot of the bridge. if visiting sf, this should be the number 1 item on your to see list!

An amazing bridge with stunning scenic views! My bestie and I came during the Christmas holidays and it was chilly and foggy. We just really enjoyed the views and ocean breeze. The bridge is an excellent place for taking pictures. It is much more larger than it appears on photos. You experience the ocean's wind as you walk along the bridge. Depending on the time of the year and weather conditions, it is a very different experience. You can see this bridge from so many different angles. A must visit attraction in San Francisco.
