"Law admits it’s nearly impossible to pick a single island from this stretch off Georgia’s southern coast and recommends choices according to mood: “Choose Sea Island for a luxury retreat at The Cloister, Cumberland Island for the simplicity of roaming horses and untouched landscapes, St. Simons Island for lively beaches and dining options, or Jekyll Island for a vacation full of old-world charm.” No matter which you pick, expect a relaxed atmosphere with gorgeous sunsets, mild weather, and standout meals — Southern Soul Barbeque on St. Simons is highlighted as a must-try." - Lydia Mansel

25 Best Islands to Visit Around the World, According to T+L Readers
"A cluster off Georgia’s coast offering golden sand dunes, palm-lined shores and charming towns for shopping and dining; outdoor enthusiasts can kayak through salt marshes or hike maritime forests, while the islands retain a quieter, nature-focused appeal." - Travel + Leisure Editors
Our Readers' Favorite Islands in the Continental U.S. of 2023
"Nestled between Savannah, Georgia, and Jacksonville, Florida, the Golden Isles consist of four barrier islands with wide stretches of sand, historical landmarks, and a variety of activities for all ages. The isles also boast antique shops, galleries, boutiques, and outdoor markets. And the Peach State’s beach destinations serve their own spin on beloved southern cuisine: coastal favorites like oysters and wild Georgia shrimp are aplenty. A visit to this Georgian gem is sure to give travelers a good dose of sun and sand — with a side of southern charm, of course." - Travel + Leisure Editors
A welcoming Welcome Center stocked with information, history and Golden Isle items to purchase for any age (books, games, clothing, art, decor & more). We stop in here each visit to catch up on upcoming events, and reacquaint ourselves with things to do.
Stop in to get a map to assist in finding the Tree Spirits around SSI ;-)

Wonderful place! The lady there was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. (Sorry, we don't recall her name, but she was charming). We learned a lot about the area, and she suggested many places to go during our visit. There were a lot of informational brochures and a nice gift shop.

Very informative. Pleasant people answering questions and helping you find interesting things to see and do. Make sure to see the tree spirit carving right outside the building.

This shop is very professional. The owner seems very honest. The transaction was relatively quick even though I had three bags of coins and random pieces of gold. I believe they keep a very small percentage, and I would highly recommend this shop to everyone.

Yelp
We should have come here first -- I'd recommend you do the same.
Although we stopped by mid way into our stay, we still got to have some questions answered and pick up some additional island info -- including points of interest and maps -- view some of the artwork displayed, and browse some of the items for sale in the shop.
The gal who was working the day we stopped by was welcoming and friendly. We had a nice conversation.
The only downside is that there are no public bathrooms in the welcome center. We were directed across the street to the municipal building/library.
Right outside the museum is one of the islands tree spirits. You can start your search here.
Enjoy your visit!

Yelp
What a totally amazing place! Talk about Southern Hospitality, everyone is so laid back, kind and smiling! I would be too if I lived here. I'll be back and will be bringing my friends. This is a great hidden treasure in Georgia. Beautiful beaches, great outdoor activities, good food and sunshine! The Golden Isles are a Golden Treasure - see you soon, my new friend!

Yelp
We So enjoyed your beautiful Island even though it wasn't swimming weather. We took the Trolley tour on Colonial Trolley and must say Captain Rod was very informative, you could really tell he did his research and really loves his Island and makes you love it too.
