This restaurant is known for being both a bit rude and light handed w their servings, so I was happy to see that the serving size on this order was better than usual. UNFORTUNATELY, once again the meal was very unenjoyable and therefore prompted a need for a review.
The cabbage was surprisingly spiced so heavily and the oxtails were plentiful but WERE SO TOUGH TO EAT that it was pointless. EVERY PIECE I BIT INTO WAS UNDERCOOKED and I was hardly able to get any meat out of the meal.
I figured I should call (around 5:30P) and let the restaurant know, although I knew I might be met w some attitude and they would do nothing about the issue. I called to mention and while I wasn't accusatory, nor did I even ask for a refund, sure enough I was met with the indifference and sass I expected. However, this time not from the usual woman that picks up the phone. I mean seriously, you can't even call to ask if they still have certain food in stock without sensing a less than amicable tone.
I simply wanted to let them know that perhaps they might want to try a piece as they were not cooked as tenderly as they should be. The gentleman's response, "Well, we have been selling it all day and you're the first to complain".
WELL, perhaps I was the first to make the time to call because your customers figured it would make no difference to voice their concern due to the restaurant's bad energy/ unwillingness to listen to feedback. Maybe they just took the L on a wasted meal because they didn't want to pointlessly argue and become further frustrated after wasting money on their $18 entree. Perhaps this a different batch of oxtail than from this morning. Who the f**k cares!? That's not the point. Listen to what I AM saying, or at least try the oxtail first before you pop off.
PLUS, in the past, I actually have called to let them know when their food was really good, albeit, one time, but still, I like to give credit where its due, especially since so few folks do.
-Why do you have an attitude?
-How are you directly affected by listening to a customer's feedback on the food?
-Did you cook the raggedy ass oxtail that I voiced a complaint about?
I just don't understand why all in your feelings.
I have even placed orders in the past where upon receipt, I notice that items are missing. No call to mention or ask if I am interested in a substitute or refund. I mean I think I would notice if I ordered a chicken roti and the roti skin was not included. Why would I pay $11 for a plate of slightly pink curry chicken sans potato & chana.
A courtesy call would be nice/expected.
As someone who has worked in hospitality and a West Indian myself, I like to try to support black/island owned businesses. But I hate that some restaurants, especially from this chain, do not take pride in their product, nor do they perpetuate the warmth that the islands are known for. Unfortunately, this is the only GK location that delivers through all of the apps. Trust me I have looked for others. Truly not worth your business (plus the additional costly fees from UBER EATS) because they don't care. You can tell from their reviews.
PLUS HOW ARE YOU RUDE ON MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY, my guy!?
