The Best Christmas Towns in the USA for a Dose of Holiday Cheer | Vogue

"“Position yourself in the heart of Peddler’s Village with a room at The Golden Plough Inn. This property is made up of several historic buildings, including an old post office and 19th-century stone buildings that once served as a stagecoach stop.”" - Nicole Kliest

Of the many highlights of our brief stay, it’s hard to choose just one: Was it the errant bottle of disinfectant greeting us upon arrival? It feels unfair since that hardly compared to the multiple brown stains on the beige carpet. They spared no expense here- one brown stain was more stunning than the next! Talk about fall colors! … But I think the “best” part of our experience came after our stay, when we were met with the definition of world-class hospitality from the general manager Their utter disregard for the safety and comfort of their guests was on full display when I reached out to share the “idiosyncrasies” of our stay. In addition to the foul, stained carpet, I expressed concern over my experience at their on-premise restaurant: TLDR: there was a guest in the restaurant whom the staff had already identified as a “problem” (unbeknownst to us), and who had approached my partner right after we were seated. To say it was uncomfortable is… an understatement. The staff handled it the best they could. Upon informing the general manager of our experience, their response was, “the restaurant is not the hotel’s jurisdiction”… despite it being on the property, connected to (and promoted by) the hotel’s check-in desk. The general manager dismissed our concerns and basically said, “you’re going to post anyway- why should I do anything about this?” Bottom line: hospitality is about making people feel welcome, and making people feel comfortable. During our stay we felt uncomfortable, and when we shared our experience we felt diminished and unwelcome. My two cents…

Room was very spacious. However I had to climb more than 20 stairs to get to my room… with my suitcase! No elevator. Bathroom tub/shower had no safety rail & the water was orange & yellow. Room was not in main building… more stairs to check in….but down the street. The front entrance was leaking snow on my head & my feet has to step through a pile of slush. I wouldn’t go again.

I was disappointed with the room. For $650 for 2 nights (and nothing included), I feel these things should be addressed if you plan on staying here...I was in the village view "extended stay" room. This room has a small kitchen in it. I was traveling with my husband and child. Anything I mention with the kitchen was observed in both cleanliness and appearance:||1) To start, there were un-wiped cup rings on the bed stands and table, which my husband and I wiped.||2) There were MANY finger print marks that have accumulated on the stove vent and were not cleaned. I also feel like dish soap shouldn't be left half way filled and squeezed (maybe use single style travel dish soap or a refillable bottle per stay). It just shows other people using the product stays upon stays before you, which is kinda eh, (gross).|--> Also the sponge left under the sink too should have been replaced and not used from guest to guest (something I did NOT use...also gross).||3) The beautiful wood beams were covered in a film of dust, which if they were to be hit or even just blown on, it would have fallen into the bed (as its right underneath the main beam).||4) It was not vacuumed when we came in.||It's a wonderful, cute little town and a perfect location for people needing to spend the night with an abundance of food and shopping. However, this particular room was clearly only "lightly cleaned" from the last extended stay and never looked at again OR it's been a long time since this room was booked.||CHECKING OUT: The front desk woman said to me "I should have called and we would have changed your room"....Do you know how irritating that is? First off, I have a 10 month old...secondly, I'm here (in horrible cold weather mind you) not looking to lug my family around town. I shouldn't be responsible for calling to get a new room because you can't manage your property and maid staff.|Obviously, mentioning this to them did nothing because the front desk woman said "I won't check you out yet, I'll speak to my manager and we'll get in contact with you" (then confirmed my email)....NOTHING. I responded to the checkout email saying 'reply here' if you have any comments, questions, concerns, opinions . . . yadeya! Still no one's reached out just to acknowledge such for future stays.||***If anyone at this hotel wants to call me a liar for my conversation with the checkout lady, look at your cameras and time stamped emails, since the front desk staff certainly has a knack for TripAdvisor snippy, documented responses. ***

Very charming. Check in was amazing I believe her name was Julia. She stated that we had the biggest room on property. We had room 415 supposedly president suite . I upgraded our room for my husband’s birthday expecting a room like pictured in photos. I wanted the fireplace and jacuzzi tub. The room was clean (besides shower)but very dated and looked nothing like a “presidential suit”. We did not use the jacuzzi (see below pictures). The shower was like a stand up coffin and mold on the walls. The couch had an asian pattern very random for a peddler decor and had a big stain on the cushion. The pillow may have been from 1980 with no cover. Very cute town and people were very nice but not worth the price of the room.

First of all, I would say the room was very nice. The bed was very uncomfortable.|The Front desk Staff leaves A LOT TO BE DESIRED!!|Made the reservation after a 15-minute conversation with, I believe, Judy (nice person)|We made it very clear that we wanted the view from the room to be that of the Village with all its Christmas lights up. She said No problem, you have a fireplace also, so we booked it. We got there early, around 11:30. The clerk said the room was ready, but for $10.00, they would call when it was ready.... No calls stopped back to the front desk, still wasn't ready at 2:30. We left, not happy about the lack of service from them. We left to get something to eat and came back at 5:30, and by that time it was ready. We checked in and drove to the room only to find out NO VILLAGE VIEW AS WE WERE PROMISED, BUT A GREAT VIEW OF THE ALLY BEHIND THE VILLAGE (VERY DARK). We called the front desk, and they apologized and offered us a free breakfast. We declined.|Checked out the next morning and discussed the issue with Judy, and she said we requested that room. We were NEVER there before and did not know the rooms, other than the conversation we had with her a week earlier. Needless to she said that we requested the room and she must have misunderstood what she said. No, let's comp you the next time you come here, or let's take something off the bill.. Not looking for free, but looking for them to right the wrong she caused. |It is very apparent that they don't hold customer service to a very high standard|Needless to say, I will NOT stay there again and will not speak highly or recommend them to anyone|Mike and Colleen

I was on an overnight with my girlfriends and we stayed at the Golden plough and meandered around peddlers Village. Christmas lights were spectacular. The food was great. Don’t miss the spiked apple cider by the kitchen shop. Our room at the Golden plow was spacious and unfortunately we didn’t have time to use the big tub.

This hotel is spread out in different sections of peddlers village. Our room was behind the lobby area. Extremely comfortable bed and the pillows were amazing as well. Nicely appointed room. Quiet and close to all. Even drove down to New hope for an afternoon. Extremely happy with our visit. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. My sister forgot something in our room and they went out of the way to mail it to her! Thank you to the Golden Plough for a wonderful, relaxing visit. I will definitely be back!! A++*

Great little hotel in Peddlers Village. Comfortable bed and and nice atmosphere. We checked in on 09/03/25. I believe Med was the desk clerk on duty. We loved the room but my wife had a hard time getting on the bed because it was higher than our bed at home. She went down to the front desk to ask if there was a step stool that she could use. The desk clerk who checked us in promptly brought up a lovely little step stool for her to use. Our granddaughter thought it was very funny that grandma had to climb the stairs to get into bed. Thank you Meg for making our stay so enjoyable, comfortable, and fun.
