Golden Tulip Le Grand Bé Saint-Malo Hôtel & Spa

We visited the Golden Tulip Le Grand Bé Saint-Malo Hôtel Restaurant Spa without knowing too much about it. BUT when we arrived the welcome at reception was absolutely brilliant and we settled in straight away with the feeling that we were going to have a great stay. It was very lovely five nights. All and everything that two couples would want from a beautiful Christmas decorated hotel was available. Wow! the facilities and food (breakfast) was amazing with all the breakfast food you could wish for. There were some very cosey corners to sit and chat making the whole experience wonderful. It was as central as one could get to the St Malo scene. We had brilliant rooms overlooking the brightly lit square and the whole experience proved to be spectacular. We say 'well done' to all the staff who could not do enough for us. They were all so friendly and loved a chat and a good laugh. A fabulous hotel right in the heart of the citadel, the room was very well equipped, bed was comfy. Cleaned to a very good standard. All the staff were friendly and helpful. |There are some hotel parking spaces but on a 1st come basis which wasn't an issue as there is parking on the street at a minimal cost, its free between 21:00 and 09:00.||All in all a great central location to explore the citadel and beyond.

Superb hotel, great location, lovely room and very friendly and helpful staff. Only thing I would change: I think it is a mistake to have a lock on the emergency exit doors at the bottom of the staircase. If there was an emergency and people were panicking and rushing to get out, no one is going to read the sign which says 'press the button' to get out, and that button is hidden away in the corner, not immediately visible.

Beautiful looking hotel but as we found with a lot of French hotels, not really very practical. Staff were efficient rather than friendly. Biggest problem for us was that there was absolutely no-where to put your clothes to unpack in your room apart from a small hanging section so everything else stays in your case. No-where to put your case for easy access so literally it stays on the floor and you scrabble around on the hard floor to get your clothes out. Probably ok for 1 night stay but any longer ( we stayed 2 nights) and you may find that an issue as we did. The manager did kindly offer to move us to a suite for the 2nd night but we didnt want to spend part of our only full day there moving rooms ! We did manage to get a folding suitcase stand given to us once we'd complained about the lack of storage. We were told the lack of storage was " due to the architects design " which kinda set the tone for the whole hotel. Bathroom all ok, not very private but functional. Breakfast was very underwhelming but why eat a bland hotel breakfast when you have wonderful restaurants, bars, cafes and bakeries on your doorstep. We didn't use the bar or the restaurant for that reason so cant comment on those. Great location close to everything and St Malo is gorgeous. Good double glazing so quiet. Wouldn't return to this hotel as we would prefer a bit more function and comfort over style and a friendlier atmosphere so it just isnt our cup of tea. However St Malo is a definite to return to but for slightly longer next time. BTW don't lose or dispose of the water bottle in your room or you'll be fined 40 euros !!!

We had the opportunity to do a massage at this very welcoming hotel. Simply fantastic and relaxing. I suggest you to reserve days in advance, mainly if you want to do the massage during weekends.

Amazing staff who treated us wonderfully and we weren't even guests! We went a couple of times to the bar and had lunch there and stayed a while on our last day. Gwen at reception was just brilliant, so helpful and friendly and helped us a lot. Flo on the bar and restaurant has the nicest smile in St Malo and the warmest welcome. Outstanding service and friendliness. Cannot wait to visit them on our next trip to St Malo. Thank you! 🙏 Christian and Maria

It was a perfect choice. We've looked at other hotels outside the walled city but I'm glad we picked Golden Tulip. The hotel was perfectly located, it was clean, and the service was outstanding - I need to mention Theline (hopefully I spelled correctly). She helped us with the parking, and with any questions we had. Just very nice and friendly person which always makes a difference.|The hotel has limited parking spots, not very cheap but we ended up taking it and it was a good decision.

Parking for EV good but expensive but it is in a great location for the city.|The young lady on reception when we arrived -I think called Gwen was unhelpful and unfriendly from the moment we arrived and all subsequent times we saw her.|We saw other customers being welcomed by the reception manager and they were being given advice on exploring st.malo and a map. We got none of this.|Other staff were friendly.|No porters for cases but they do have a couple of trolleys .|Our junior suite was spacious and overall clean however room service meant just the bed made and bathroom tidied but we were not given fresh glasses or water.|The bar lacked atmosphere and was very expensive .|Not good enough for the price
