"Amsterdam: Drink Beer We had been to Gollem for a drink and a snack (note: the meat platter is hearty) the evening before, but when we found ourselves on Overtoom after visiting Vondelpark, with Gollem just opening for lunch, we went for it again. After all, it was our last day in Amsterdam and there was beer to be drunk. The servers are very knowledgeable and helpful, and will guide you to specific styles or rhapsodize over undiscovered breweries. Fries, fried in beef tallow, were wonderful. Sweetbread croquettes tasted mostly like any other croquette, with perhaps a whiff of sweetbreadiness. The ham and Chimay cheese sandwich was good. It was all fresh, and all went very well with the wide selection of Belgian beers they offer. And for dessert? Gueuze. By AFAR Traveler , AFAR Contributor"

Very nice pub with an excellent beer selection - so much to choose from!

Roy Cohen

Google
Great selection of beers, nice snacks, staff was a bit ADHD ;) but that added some fun

Damla Nisa Cevik

Google
Very good bar with variety of beers. If you like sour beer you can find one for your taste very easily. They have burgers and other snacks to share. The staff is kind and fast. They have different board games to play. Reservation can be made and might be good for Friday or Saturday.

Juliana Costa

Google
Nice pub for a diverse range of beers, there is always a new one to try. It used to have great food, but from the last year to now it became increasingly worst. Recommend eating somewhere else before heading in for beers. It is an expensive place with pints around 8-10 euros.

Google
This is a really neat pub with a great local beer selection, they also have a good sampling of American beers. American 60's tunes were on their speakers sounding good. Food was beef & veggie burgers & fries, all good portions. The staff is very friendly and informative. Great place, hope to return.

Google
This is a wonderful spot for beer aficionados. They have over 200 bottles and did have Westvleteren available :) The host was very accommodating and gave excellent recommendations for us to try new beers that we had not had before but met our flavor profiles (saison, triple) and even recommended a few unique ones that we wouldn't have explored on our own including an excellent barrel aged stout. The food was excellent too! We also enjoyed all the fun beer related artwork on the walls.

Google
Great place, very chill, VAST selection of beers and great food. Recommended to beer lovers: there's one for every taste.

Google
This bar is amazing. If you are in Amsterdam you need to visit Gollem in Overtoom for a beer. The beer selection is outstanding and the staff really know there stuff! Love it and please visit. ❤️

Yelp
We stopped in, and the service was amazing! Our waitress helped us out a lot and gave good beer recommendations. The bar cat was super nice as well.

Yelp
Excellent beer bar. They have a huge variety of beers on tap, lots of delicious Belgians to choose from. They also have 160 plus bottles. There's even a resident cat. Definitely worth a stop by if you love Belgian beers.

Yelp
Decided to try this place after looking for a place to eat with our teens. They had good reviews and so we walked over. It is a pub, so set your expectations. It's small and cozy and the lights are low for ambiance. We were greeted and seated quickly. The server was friendly and answered our questions with no issues. The husband and I tried several sours (I wish I had take. A pic of what I had because it was tasty!) He had braised pork, I had Fleming stew, one teen had duck and the other a burger. Everything came out hot and was tasty! There was no rush to eat and get out (this is the European way) and we enjoyed what seemed like a lot of locals enjoying the place. That's how we know we've got a good place...when it's full of locals. The highlight was the resident cat, who made an appearance to my and my daughters delight. He ru s the place, as he walks all over the bar and earns his keep probably by keeping the mice away. We would definitely eat her again the next time we are in Amsterdam.

Yelp
Best beer bar around, excellent selection of beers and great food not just snacks. Best burger I've had in a long time. Great selection of local and regional beers 20+ on tap.

Meri C.

Yelp
Really good food. Lots of different beers. Friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Not too far a walk from the Museumplein. Cafe cat. What's not to like?

Bruce S.

Yelp
We were visiting Amsterdam on our way to Germany and found this place. Given that we love sour beer, this place was a good find. Excellent beer selection and some really good snacks. Really friendly bartender.

Yelp
My son and I just had a great dinner at Gollem's. This is a very warm and friendly place. I had the Winter Bowl and my son had the Stew. Both were delicious and just the perfect hot meal for us to have with a good beer on a cold rainy night in Amsterdam.

Yelp
Friendly neighborhood gastropub with roughly 20 draft taps and 160 other reserved beers. I had a mango passion sour and my partner had a house Pilsner. I got the mussels daily special which I got to choose between being cooked in beer or wine. I went with beer but there wasn't anything really beer-flavoured about it. The stock in the pot was nice though. My partner got the beef steak pastry and the center tasted like cream of mushroom soup which was rather rich and surprising. Both came with a generous side of fries. There's so much I want to try here.

Yelp
It's a five on beer selection alone. Full range of Belgian trappists, saisons, gueuzes, etc. The Westvleteren 12 is arguably one of the rarest, most sought after beers in the world. And it's regularly available. On my visit they also had a rare oak aged La Trappe, the uniquely non-Belgian trappist. Not too far from museumsplein/rijksmuseum, but far enough away to beat the crowd. Had a couple of small appetizers too. Not bad. The shrimp croquette is small in portion but is packed with flavor. And the pomegranate/blue cheese salad was tasty and surprisingly filling. Forget all that though. The drinks are the biggest draw.

Yelp
We visited to watch some World Cup and enjoy some beer and food. And, the resident cat may have weighed in my decision to go. Cute place. Lots of beer options. Good service. The fondue was quite tasty. Fries with mayo - yum! It was a fun community vibe while watching the match.

Yelp
Great beer bar one tram stop away from Van Gogh Museum. Stopped by this place right by the time they opened, so nothing was quite ready when we walked in, but we proceeded to stay and drink anyway. We've got some great recommendations from our lovely bartender, Kandi (sp?) on beers, breweries and Berlin. Their combo cheese and meat plate was pretty big. Anyway, those cheeses are not Dutch; they are from Chimay brewery in Belgium. I was having fun petting a pussy whose name is "Dog".

Yelp
Great brewery and place to have a lunch. Our waitress yesterday was outstanding. She was knowledgeable about the beer menu and was very friendly. We ordered a flight and a variety of small snacks. Generous portions and enjoyable lunch!
google avatar

Floris V.

Yelp
Truly a great place for a beer. Many choices, many good beers. Knowledgeable staff and well served. Pretty good pub food (burgers and the like). If the sun's out, nice little terrace where you can bask in it.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
If you are a beer guy, this is your place. Fantastic selection of beers from around Europe and outside, but of course specializing in the Netherlands and Belgium. Xander (hope I spell it correctly) really knew his stuff when it came to beers of Europe. And they do flights!
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
What a great spot, close to the Vondelpark, but not too touristy. (Like every tourist, we like to be special and the only ones.) We needed a snack after walking the length of the park, so we wandered over to this sweet little spot. We sat outside (I love all the outdoor seating!), and ordered beer and the smoked fish plate. It was delicious, very calm, and we got to meet the resident cat. Good beer selection, tasty food, nice service.

Yelp
My first time at the location. I've always had a good experience while in Amsterdam. My friend and I ordered a cheese and meat platter. I found a long blonde hair in the platter. Mark the bartender tells me the chef was bold. So I take it he insuating it's us. He offered to bring something else. We said ok. I said plz with no hair. Mark commented "don't tell me how to do my job!" I walks away. You call this good customer service. I asked for my check for my beers. He told me $0 with an attiftude. Will I ever go back to this location again? No! Had to wait 15 mins for someone to come back in regards to the hair I found. Mark needs some customer service skills!

Yelp
After an amazing meal at Café de Klos, the fellas and I wanted to have a few beers to cap our vacation. I visited Café Gollem on a previous visit to Amsterdam and they informed me that they had three additional locations around Amsterdam, but that Gollem's Proeflokaal was their suggestion for me. The bar was much larger than Café Gollem, but it still retained a welcoming feel. The staff all spoke good English, so that made navigating the extensive beer list much easier. After drinking watered down beer in Africa, I had a strong urge for some locally brewed IPAs. The beers definitely didn't disappoint and nor did the service. The music selection was great and there was even a nice lazy cat wandering around to keep the patrons company. Since this bar was in a working class neighborhood, 90% of the clientele was locals. If I had a place like this back home, I'd definitely be a regular. You'll be missed Gollem's Proeflokaal, but I shall see you again.

Yelp
Very, very large choice of beer by the bottle and even around 12 on tap. Good staff, welcoming and ready to help us wanting to discover some of local beers. The food was very good for a bar. We will probably come back before leaving Amsterdam.
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
A highlight of my trip to Amsterdam. Incredible selection of Belgian ales on tap and in bottle. With a knowledgeable staff willing to talk beer with us moderately informed partakers. Feels like a total local spot. Very few tourists. I felt like the only one. Nice food options as well. There are a few of these around town. Definitely worth seeking this out and making an evening of it.

Yelp
We stopped in here for an afternoon drink with a few nibbles. Service was prompt and very informative. A companion of mine asked for a Japanese style dutch beer a tricky question for any waitress yet she wasn't phased and responded with a beer perfect to my friends taste 'Witkap-Pater - Stimulo' We had some really nice bitterballen - some of the best I've had here so far. We only had nibbles and I didn't look at the main menu. The cheese platter had generous serves of cheese. Perhaps more cheese than bread.
google avatar

Christy U.

Yelp
This local spot is so warm and welcoming, we went twice. Cheese board is fantastic as well as the stew! So many terrific beers to choose from and the service made us feel right at home. We just loved it here!

Yelp
Take the tram to Overtoom and do a mini crawl at Gollem and Craft & Draft some blocks away on the same street. I can't decide wether I like this Gollem or the teeny weeny Gollem on Ramsteeg better. They are great in different ways. They both offer a great variety of craft beer - this one have a few more though and the venue is bigger. Here we met the most helpful bartender ever!
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
This place is a GREAT beer bar. The food is actually pretty decent, too - we got some of their bitterballen, as well as a burger and salad. Bar food, to be sure, but good. I'd come here just for the beers, though, truthfully. As another reviewer said, the Westvleteren 12 is super hard to find but readily available here (it's about 17 euro a bottle). If you like Trappist monk beers, this is one of the best out there. They've got hundreds of choices though, so you can find just about anything you like. Highly recommended, and the staff is very friendly.
google avatar

Louis R.

Yelp
This spot is way far from the touristy areas...but close to the high-end shops, like Longchamp, LV, and all that nonsense. The outside eating/drinking area is chill (communal tables and barrels) and the interior is pretty huge and dark. Order the meat and cheese....and lots of beer. LOTS OF BELGIAN BEER. Wander out of the Red Light District to this bar and try something different.
google avatar

Allan M.

Yelp
Great beer bar in Amsterdam. Just far enough away from the main tourist parts of Amsterdam, that it didn't feel as crowded as the ones closer in to the center of town. Smoking room was a great plus(and what seemed to be a rarity for Amsterdam bars, as on my trip I only spotted one other bar that from inside glance when I was passing by had a smoking room), along with a patio area as well. They even had the very hard to find Westvleteren 12 beer(cost 15 euros, little ouch), which was nice to finally try after all the hype I'd heard about it for years. Honestly I think others had overhyped that beer a tad(Orval is fine IMO, and cheaper), but glad I crossed it off my microbrewed beer bucket list. Didn't try the food, but I wouldn't mind doing so next time. I'd definitely be up for coming back here, if I make it back to Amsterdam someday.

Yelp
AWESOME. Food was really good for sure, but the service and general vibe was incredible. The wait staff there are knowledgable about all of their beers, and they have a ton of then! They all get along and have so much fun working there. As a customer, they make you feel like you've been coming there for years. We were in Amsterdam to celebrate New Year's and after stumbling into this place while walking around on 12.29 we headed out to explore the town on 12.30 and ended up back here. New wait staff on night 2, all equally friendly and fun. Such a feel good vibe, we bought tickets to their NYE party and spent 12.31 there too! It was so so fun- and safe, warm, and comfortable. Bottomless champagne, beer, wine, bitterballen and other Danish traditional NYE hors d'oeuvres with fun music and lots of happy people! Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Excellent pub for a very very large selection of beers. We had a group of 7 visiting from all over and all were very impressed. The food was fantastic! We ordered a numner of different appetizers including the charcuterie platter and it was one of the best selections. We also tried the bitterballs (finally after 20 years of traveling here)and they were seriously good, especially with a beer!! Also, try the fries! We will definitely be returning the last night of our show.
google avatar

Kelvin C.

Yelp
They have a HUGE selection of beers on tap as well as bottles. While not in the heart of amsterdam, this bar was close to the hotel we stayed (Grand Hotel Downtown Amsterdam). We didn't expect this quiet neighborhood bar to have so many patrons...people were literally packed in here like sardines. If you want a quiet bar or even a normal noise-level bar, this place isn't it. The bar smelled of smoke, old-beer, and was dank...however, it had a certain European charm to it that I can't quite describe. Just come here and drink their huge selection of craft beer. I wouldn't necessarily travel off the beaten path to come here, but if you're in the area or living nearby, then definitely make a stop here. 4 stars.
google avatar

Alyse H.

Yelp
We thought this place was so great, we came here twice! Hubby and I stopped in for some drinks and snacks and the next night we brought a fellow traveler here for drinks after a concert. They have about 20 taps and all of them were different and interesting. They had some amazing Belgian beers on tap and hubby and I did a good job of exploring the selection (if you know what I mean!). We ordered a ham and cheese sandwich and tomatensoep (sp). The sandwich was more like a sandwich roll, but it was tasty. I loved the tomato soup with fresh bread to dip in it. The service was great both times. They have 4 locations around the city, so check them out!
google avatar

Thiago G.

Yelp
Excellent selection of beers on tap and on bottle. Bartender knows what he's talking about, beer styles, what each one tastes like and which beers are "easier to like"
google avatar

Marco L.

Yelp
Yeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssss! Gollum 1 is my favorite of the 3 (there's a fourth one in Antwerpen opened by one of the old bartenders from Amsterdam) but this location, #3, is great too!!!! Nice kitty.....
google avatar

Eoin O.

Yelp
So Gollem is starting to become a bit of a "local" bar for me, it's great to have a selection that goes beyond a white beer and two lagers. It can get super busy, but then that's the sign of a good bar as far as I'm concerned. Except on Fridays where it seems to get an odd expat crowd who seem to be in a competition to see who can speak the most nonsense. It has a great smoking room, if that's your thing and the food I've had there has always been good. There's also always seems to be a cat there, but not always the same cat. I think they work shifts. BTW If you like red wine and struggle to find a beer you like, look out for the "Duchesse de Bourgogne" Trust me.
google avatar

Pamela D.

Yelp
Lovely pub to have a few beers. Extensive beer selection - not so diverse menu for eats. But, then again, if you drink enough you really won't remember that problem, will you? Ah, right! They had a mussels special. Huge pot came and they must have been good bc we finished them all.
google avatar

Rachelle Y.

Yelp
Holy beer selection Batman. Lots of seating so good for a group of friends to sit, catch up and drink beers. There are tables outside too. I didn't give it four stars because I'm not that familiar with all the types of beers and so need a lot of help in choosing. The beer menu is written on the walls. Where we were seated the tap menu was not visible. And the server was less than helpful with the selection process. Convo went like this. Me: I'd like a beer like a Westmalle Dubbel but I want to try something new. Is there something similar? Server: We have that on tap and in a bottle. Me: Ok but I wanted to try something new. Server: Ok. Long awkward pause. Me: Ok, I'll have Westmalle Dubbel draft thanks.
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Excellent service and friendly staff!! If you're unfamiliar with local beer, take the bartenders recommendations with confidence; he will not let you down. Great, lively atmosphere and cool vibes! A must if you're in the area.
google avatar

Bleep S.

Yelp
Beer and cheesecake....world class cheesecake. I was in a hurry to make a concert on time...don't judge. Fast fast service! Near Vondelpark
google avatar

Mariam N.

Yelp
My husband and I found this place on our adventures in Amsterdam. Stella was our waitress who was very nice and was very knowledgeable about the numerous beers they serve! We got a flight/taster of about 5 beers which were all from the tap. I highly recommend the taster option if you're not that familiar with the many beers they have I would highly recommend getting the sampler. It was pretty busy when we got there and you could tell it was about to get busier.
google avatar

Kostya G.

Yelp
Loved this place. Great beer, fantastic food. I had ribs and they were amazing. Excellent service too - they recommend beers to pair with the food and it's so much fun.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
Stopped in here for dinner. More of a bar, but had good food. We enjoyed the Cheese Fondu, the Flemish Stew and the Burger. All very tasty and lots of different beer. The server was awesome - attentive, helpful and nice. Nice local place!
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
This place is absolutely great. My wife and I ate here after arriving in Amsterdam late and starving. The food was great - we shared a cheese plate and the goat cheese salad. The beer selection was superb, the service good, and the atmosphere fun. I would recommend this place.

Chris S.

Yelp
Amazing meal. Pictures really speak for themselves. Cheese board was excellent, great burger, and of course an awesome tap list. You won't go wrong with this place.
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
Being big fans of Belgian beers, and renting a flat close by, we had to check this place out. At 5 pm on a Sunday before New Years, it was packed. But I noted a couple empty tables with a "reserved" sign on them. Inquiring of the bartender, she said we could use the table until the people showed up. As we just wanted one beer, that was perfect. We enjoyed our karmeliet at a table by the window. Excellent selection on draft and bottles. You would definitely want to reserve a table if there are more than two of you, during any busy periods.
google avatar

Lissette H.

Yelp
Love The place they have differents kinds of beers I taste one with honey was awesome, there is a menu for lunch and dinner but we only had finger food and was good!! The staff is way to friendly love them!
google avatar

Jules T.

Yelp
My Dutch friend brought me here to try some beers. It is a great place with a good atmosphere. Really good beers. Try the bitteballe too: it is out of this world.

Rebecca P.

Yelp
At first, I was going to give this place four stars as there are likely better places in Amsterdam. However, I then considered this place relative to places we have in the States: wayyy better. Star upgrade it is! The beer selection here is pretty expansive (both tap and bottles) and features a wide offering of Dutch (and Belgian) beers. While the food was delicious too, what really set this place apart was the service: our waiter was extremely friendly and looked to offer suggestions wherever he could. As others have noted, this is not in the touristy area, so it's a great little escape to get a better taste of the true "local" flare. I can't wait to come back here the next time I'm in Amsterdam. Note: Even though it was a Dutch place, we had no problem ordering in English. Another Note: Some of the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen in public establishment, let alone a bar. America, take some notes.
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
This place is a must! Huge beer selection, amazing cheese platter (I'm American so my cheese preference is nothing too crazy) and the burger was great. The wait staff was super helpful. I hope this place is still around when I come back to Amsterdam

VVN M.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best e and varied beer selection I have come across in a long time! This place is great for a late night hangout! Servers are awesome!
google avatar

Yelp
Great beers and fries! Nice terrace in sunny days. Friendly service. Aperitivo under the sun.

Yelp
Great beer selection, relaxed atmosphere (early in the afternoon when it's not crowded), and fantastic food. I highly recommend the meat and cheese plate. I enjoyed chillin with my beer, nibbling on meat and cheese and people-watching by the window.
