On the Grid : Gonzo Club

"Look for a long line of young people and you'll find the entry immediately. Downstairs you can party until the sweat drops. Gonzo is always crowded and wild. They play a diverse set of music reaching from hip-hop, funk to electronic music. Good to know: You don't get in if you're boys only." - Y7K

Always a great time here! The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with friendly people and a good vibe all around. When it’s not techno night, the music selection is especially enjoyable. Plus, the entrance fee is very reasonable. Definitely one of my favorite spots to go out.

It‘s simple, wherever you plan to go out from Wednesday to Saturday, in the end everybody lands at Gonzo Club! Cool underground vibe with a very diverse clientel & very cool staff. I recommend checking the music program on the website or instagram to find the best party that suits you!

Racist Staff! My husband was asked to leave this place at the last visit there being told he stinks. He smelled absolutely normal but given his skin colour it's clear as night and day that this was a directly racist attack. Completely inaccaptable behavior - club should rethink the way they treat their paying customers

The club is quite small based on the underground, which made it hard to find at first. There is an entry fee (20CHF on the day). The bouncers and the rest of staff were friendly. The music, a mix of hiphop, afro beat & RB was quite good. The main downside for me was the smokers on the dj desk including the djs who made the small hall smell of cannabis. Most of the party makers here were young adults.

What can I say...Gonzo Oh Gonzo! It might be a Umchreis favourite of all time. The underground Vibe is unique. The music is always well picked in no matter the genre. I personally love the Wednesday the most. One, because of the style of music the Trapped party got it's name for a reason and two, because it's not the typical night to go out to a club and therefore you don't meet the typical kind of people and the vibe is just different from a weekends night out. Also it's right next to the one of the coolest bars in Zurich (Fat Tony) which we will tell you about in another review. All that's left to say is: If you enjoy underground night clubs that are a bit dark and dirty to dance the night away with some friends and some drinks, than you can't go wrong with that location right in the middle of the notorious Longstreet in Zürich Downtown. Enjoy! Review by Umchreis - Zurich's very own.

My recent visit to this place was nothing short of a letdown. The doormen were incredibly rude, displaying clear bias that tainted the entire evening. It's disheartening to see such behavior in this day and age. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this club. Your evening deserves better than what this establishment has to offer.

Google
By far the coolest club around Langstrasse. Underground vibes, music is always top tier, people are fun and easy going and the ones working there seem to have a fun time too. Love going there when I am in a mood for a cool night out!

Yelp
We paid 15 swiss francs each for entry literally not worth a penny. Tiny basement like enviornment with lots of 18 year olds maybe even younger. Music choice was TERRIBLE. Not much of a selection of anything. Waste of money, we had one beer each and left after 10 minutes. Young guy feeling his girlfriends boobs lifting her shirt on the dancefloor is just gross and trashy. If your 24 and up you will feel like the teacher of a class of freshman. So many better spots, if your in your late or mid 20s go to Kaufleuten, mascotte, or Jade. So much better and worth the heaftier price tag for entry. Some hotels offer free entry with a promo card, doesnt hurt to ask.

Yelp
Gonzo and I are in love. I just can't get enough. A club that doesn't play techno? YES! I mean, I love me some god electro-whatever but, it's a nice change. Last weekend they we're playing oldies. But... It works. And sometimes they're remixed or whatever, but it's always dance-able. It's refreshing to have a cool club that plays a funky eclectic mix that differs from the majority. Sort of typical look... a downstairs, basement-y, small, funky place that does get tight but not uptight. And if it's not uptight, it's ok to be tight. I mean, you don't have to be bothered bumping into people, cause everybody's cool, but not TOO cool... Know what I mean?

Yelp
Okay I officially am in love with this club. And maybe it is obvious due to how many times I frequent it. At one stage it was twice a week .... but there is a good reason for that. I don't know how they do it, but they seem to play the most banging beats week in, week out. Stuff that surprises me every time. Mainly retro stuff, 60s, 70s, 80s and even some 90s. You cannot help bubt get your boogey on! It seems like not much from the entrance, but you mosey down a set of stairs to an underground basement which is packed full of liked minded peeps wanting to shake their thing. This place is far from pretentious. Its just cool. And it shows from its popularity. If you get there too late, you will have to queue and that can take a while. Trust me. (The other option is to hit it in the wee hours of the morning when people have already started to leave). Drinks are reasonably priced for a club. I recommend having a few shots of the "mexican," which is basically a bloody mary, but in shot form it goes down soooo well. Talking to other people, I gather this place is not everyone's cup of tea, but for me there is none better. My second home. So in short - atmosphere: electric, staff: easy, clientele: friendly, music: haven't found better.

Yelp
Probably one of the better places to get wasted and meet some other wasted people while dancing to some song you haven't heard since last time you were watching Reservoir Dogs

Yelp
I had fun at the gonzo a couple of times, but sometimes it isn't as good...this was the case on friday. I had fun, cause I was with my friends, but the music wasn't that great...oldies, but none that I knew and they it was very monotone in all... But in all I like gonzo, specially the Balkan Parties they do! And just a tip: Come around 12am to get in fast, later you have to wait in line ;) and inside again to check in your coat. Costs 15 chf.

Yelp
This place was so much fun. We went on Wednesday night and the DJ was playing great RnB, as well as really good drinks. The clientele wasn't pretentious or too hipster, people were just having a great dance.

Yelp
I'm very surprised to see all the positive reviews here. It would be hard to find a worse club in Zurich. It starts at the door, which is very pretentious. They make you wait outside for a long time, letting people in no more than 4 at a time, just to have a long line and attract more people. So just make sure you are willing to spend half an hour outside doing your share of advertising for the club, even if it is cold. The space they have downstairs is actually alright, but the music is absolutely terrible. Obviously it will vary from night to night but when I was there, it was mashup, done with the same single measure bass line repeating over and over for an hour. Nothing fit together. Every other song you would have no other option to stop dancing and just stare at each other asking, did he really just butcher that transition that badly? Later in the night (maybe 3) they stopped the mashup and did some more mainstream hits with a bit of 80s mixed in. That was better but nothing special. There was also a bit of fighting on the dance floor and generally not the nicest people around. Overall, I was able to have a good night here because I was with good friends, but that was in spite of the club rather than because of it. The drinks are fairly affordable if thats any consolation.
