On the Grid : Good Press

"A bright and brilliant space set up by artists, designers and publishers. Good Press was set up to support promotion, production and sale of indie publications, they also regularly host exhibitions and reading events. The shop is tiny but you can definitely squeeze a small crowd in there. The tables and shelves are neatly stacked with piles of carefully selected zines, journals, mixtapes and books by makers from all around the world." - Kenna

It's in a hotel so you have to find the entrance. The coffee is smooth, rich, and original. It is unbelievable, this will be a worthwhile stop if you're a connoisseur. The food comes from the kitchen in another room so when you order you're not going to see the guy making your food don't worry about that somebody is making your food haha. The French toast is amazing, croissant sandwich is perfection, and the original breakfast is high quality and fills you up. The place is extraordinary and they are open early which is very helpful. I came here three mornings because it's so good, there was no need to try a different breakfast spot downtown after I discovered it during the conference. Opens at 6:30am

Utilizing credits given by the hotel allowed my partner and I to have two days of fulfilling breakfast and lunch items here, and we overall thought that the food was not bad in the most conventional way, meaning that there were no highlights but no serious points of constructive criticism, either. Most of the food resembled what we could find in a standard café. Some of the items like the green smoothie, the yogurt parfait (not pictured), and so on were premade and available at the counter. They tasted like what one would expect them to taste like according to the ingredients included on the menu. The smoked salmon toast and the breakfast burrito both had sufficient ingredients. The cinnamon roll had enough sugar content and was a bit dry. The biggest highlights were the designed coffee. Both the lavender latte and the black walnut latte had good art and had a good balance between the coffee flavor and the sweet flavor. We wanted to get lunch items one day but were not able to because their chef somehow winded up in the hospital, which was more than okay, but it raised the question for me about their staffing, because I would think there might be another chef available who could cook lunch items, but apparently not. While I am not certain if it's an indication of intentional understaffing or if it's standard restaurant practice, I do have to let people know this happened.

A true espresso shop as so needed in this area. Great cappuccino done correctly. Pastries were also delicious. Super attentive and friendly staff. This is located inside the hotel. Just go on main door, up the stairs into the lobby and turn right. Lots of seating.

Good Press Cafe is a little boutique style restaurant inside the 21c hotel in St Louis. There is no parking here, so it's street parking or valet (insanely expensive). They have a smaller menu here, with prices being high with portions being ok. The taste is fine (green sauce for burrito is probably the best thing) but it's not worth the prices. Service here was pretty meh, employees were nice when we ordered but then kind of disappeared and talked behind the counter the rest of the time. You have to get all your silverware and extras yourself, and are expected to bus your own table according to the employees, so make sure you don't tip expecting service other than them bringing food to your table.

Google
Friendly staff, good coffee and tea, as well as tasty pastries. We didn't try other options, besides overnight oats (gluten free, and good!). But what we did experience was great :)

Cute coffee shop inside a hotel! Loved the ambiance and the black walnut latte I had was fantastic. The avocado toast was decent but I wish the bread was bigger, pretty small. A bit pricey.

A Culinary & Design Gem in St. Louis: Good Press Café This morning’s visit to Good Press in St. Louis was nothing short of exceptional—a seamless blend of thoughtful gastronomy and interior sophistication that speaks to both the palette and the eye. From the moment you step inside, Good Press commands attention. Its interiors evoke a boutique sensibility that balances artistry, heritage, and bold modernity. With unapologetic use of luxe tones, rich textures, and an eclectic yet harmonious interplay of patterns and color palettes, the space challenges conventional design norms. As an interior designer, I found myself rethinking boundaries—this café dares to mix with purpose and style, and it does so with absolute finesse. Equally impressive is the culinary offering. Every dish was prepared with remarkable attention to detail, and the quality of the ingredients—especially the pasteurized selections—was nothing less than a chef’s kiss. The flavors were clean, intentional, and elegant without being overstated. And then, there’s the staff: welcoming, authentic, and refreshingly warm. Their sincere hospitality rounds out the experience, making it feel more like a curated lifestyle moment than just a casual breakfast outing. Good Press is not merely a café—it’s an immersion into taste, texture, and thoughtfully layered design. If you’ve yet to experience it, consider this your invitation to elevate your morning. Go—linger a little longer, savor a little deeper.

Google
Great coffee and decent snacks. I got a cortado and chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was pretty mediocre, but the coffee was nice. There aren’t a ton of coffee options in downtown St. Louis so this stands out as one of the better ones – better than Starbucks, at least. The space is a little crowded and noisy.

Yelp
You order when you get into the place, and then they will bring you the food. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I got the green smoothie, and it was delicious. My friends ordered the burrito, and it looked so yummy. It seemed like the place to work when we first got to our table there were a few people on laptops working. They are also in a building that is very LGBTQ friendly.

Yelp
Slow service. I ordered a latte and avocado toast. My latte wasn't hot when it came out, and certainly wasn't hot when my toast came 45 minutes later. The toast came with "eggs," which was really one egg. But my biggest gripe is there wasn't a plate. My toast had a nice crunchy crust, but trying to cut it on a cardboard to go container was cruel, especially after how hungry I was after waiting so long to eat. Not at all a pleasant experience. Smashed avocado was really just a very tangy, one-note guac and black walnut latte was overly sweet, lukewarm, and lacking any distinctive walnut flavor. Feels completely wild to pay $30 for this (after tax and tip), have to wait close to an hour, and not even get a plate to eat on. Had to bus our own table too.

Yelp
A beautiful cafe in a gorgeous hotel! My friend and I only came for coffee, so unsure about the food. I was worried that such a photogenic place would have mediocre coffee, but fortunately their lattes are just as good. The baristas were cheerful, and service was quick and efficient. I recommend finishing your drinks then going upstairs to the in-house art gallery within the 21c Museum Hotel!
google avatar

Debra A.

Yelp
The food was delicious and flavorful. My husband and I stayed at 21c hotel for a staycation and had a quick breakfast at Good Press before checkout! So good! We both had the breakfast burrito with fruit and a dude order of tasty breakfast potatoes! The service was excellent! The staff were friendly and helpful with making recommendations. I had a curiosity about the chai lemonade and it came highly recommended by the barista! I'm glad I got it, sooo good! The ambience was cute with the art work and orange penguins! Try it you won't be disappointed. There's street parking in the front of the building.

Yelp
Tucked inside the uber/cool 21c Museum Hotel is this amazing coffee shop. Latte is very good, though I didn't order food, the menu looked worthy of the space. My only complaint is the long wait and lack of a system to pick up your order. But definitely check out the amazing art and stop in for a caffeine fix.

Yelp
I came in for a few moments to grab coffee before a breast cancer walk and the people were very nice and accommodating. It is in the lobby of 21C hotel. I just had a quick expresso and green smoothie, while the taste was there it was premade which is what I'm not a fan of! BUT the coffee shop is super cute and comfy! Makes you feel at home. They also advertise different products and artist!
google avatar

Charise T.

Yelp
I'm not sure if they are working from ONE panini press and a TWO burner stove, but the wait here is obnoxiously LONG! I ordered a burrito and I literally waited almost an hour! The service really NEEDS to improve. Staff doesn't check in, they don't reassure that your order is coming, even though you're "staring a hole" through the side of their face! They don't offer a complimentary coffee, nothing. I will NOT be back and I would highly suggest leaving them to hotel guests ONLY!

Robert H.

Yelp
I'm sitting with my family and waiting, and waiting it's been 45 minutes and the people who order before us have not gotten their food. Please, read the other reviews, we're not alone here. The excuse was "we're backed up". No one, not one table had food on it...so backed up with what? While I'm going to dispute the charges here, please, please don't eat here. There are places that will actually take care of you around here. This is not one of them...yet tip is asked up front.

Yelp
I came here by myself on a Thursday at noon. Not a long line. Atmosphere: tbh this is what you're paying for. a beautiful room with a handful of tables in a pretty room with decor like a "tea room" that is perfect for chatting with 1 or 2 people. see photo. Food: this is amazing. you can just tell this was made-to-order and that it was all very fresh! I got the breakfast burrito, which comes with a fresh fruit cup. Yummy, though a bit heavy on the potato. I also got a green juice, which was perhaps more worth (and better) than the breakfast burrito surprisingly. Unfortunately did not get a coffee. Service: spectacular with a great staff helping me out on my first visit. Counter service and then they give you a number to sit at the table while you wait for your order This was so good on my first visit that I tried to go again within the next 3 days but unfortunately showed up too late after they had already stopped brunch service - but all that to say, it really was that good! I will certainly try to be back the next time I am in town.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed with my experience at GoodPress this morning. Our food took nearly an hour. While the barista was kind and did their best to help, the supervisor who handled the refund was cold, unempathetic, and barely spoke to us. The only explanation given was that they were "backed up," with no apology, no reassurance, and no offer of a complimentary coffee or anything to make up for the long wait. Poor management response completely overshadowed what could have been a better experience. I understand things happen but this was a chaotic and frustrating experience.

Rachel S.

Yelp
We loved the lattes. We went each morning of our stay at the hotel. It's a beautiful coffee shop. The barista working the weekend we came was so kind and personable, even when they were busy!!
google avatar

Alyssa B.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop nestled inside the 21c hotel. Love the honeybee oat milk latte. This place is always good for a meet up with friends or a solo work date.
google avatar

Amber F.

Yelp
This place is basically irredeemable. I asked my partner to purchase some sort of honey from the coffee shop. THEY DON'T HAVE HONEY, only honey syrup. It's a coffee shop. I figured I may as well have him grab me a drink-- THE ONLINE MENU IS WRONG! They no longer have matcha or chai (as listed)! Fire whoever is over F&B, because this place is a consistent 3.5/10
google avatar

Wanda H.

Yelp
First off, I asked if they had decaf and was told no. So, started looking over the menu and behold, there was Columbia Decaf on it. I ordered it and they gave me a little taste, as if it had been sitting there for a long time. It tasted okay. Strange place that only offers one size... Cute decor, but not a favorite of mine.
google avatar

Kelsie R.

Yelp
Good Press is such a cute modern hidden gem cafe. Tried: green hibiscus tea, iced Loved: the decor, the coziness of the cafe. It's a beautiful spot but also perfect to relax in the booth along the wall to read and study. The service was great too! Liked: my tea - it was good but not my favorite.
google avatar

MaryAnn B.

Yelp
Stopped in after brunch at Idol Wolf. Such an array of drinks. Nice that a sample was offered with so many unusual drinks. Chose a completely strange but tasty and refreshing turmeric "tea". A few tables to sit and enjoy a coffee, tea and a breakfast nosh.
google avatar

Brianna O.

Yelp
Beautiful, quiet space to get work done! We tried the Honey Lavender Iced Latte and the Missouri Black Walnut Iced Latte! Both were so good!
google avatar

Yelp
Had the coffee in this beautiful location, great experience, visiting from out of town but must stop in future

Yelp
Such an awesome spot inside the 21c hotel & museum! We stopped in for a drink and snack before exploring the artwork at 21c. Good Press had fantastic service, libations, and ambience. I LOVED the colorful cafe space - it would be a fun, quiet space to study or work if you're looking for a new spot! We had the Royal Treatment tea and Campfire cold brew. Both had excellent presentation and my cold brew was phenomenal! It was perfectly creamy, chocolatey, and flavorful. I still think about it weeks later! They had an array of fun snacks to try and we got a charcuterie box that hit the spot! I will definitely be returning and bringing friends!
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
Beautiful space. Great coffee! I tried the black walnut latte and was blown away. It is tucked inside the hotel so it is a little tricky to find, but go up the hotel stairs and turn to the right.
google avatar

Bobbie C.

Yelp
First of all, this place is the prettiest coffee shop I've been to in a long time. It's so spacious with a variety of seating options including bar, window tables, and booth seating for groups. The service was wonderful! The staff was so helpful but also made sure I had a great experience the whole time I was there without being overbearing. I had the black walnut latte and it was delicious but the star was that breakfast burrito, the fruit was so fresh and the burrito was so delicious with the sauce.get it! Overall this was such a good coffee shop and breakfast experience and a must try if you're in st Louis.

Yelp
Visited this cafe multiple times during the couple of days we stayed at 21C. I will say the first day we visited everything was SO GOOD. The coffee was perfect, food was hot and really good, and they were even busy so we were really impressed with the experience. The other days we visited though, I will say our drinks and food were less than ideal. The breakfast burrito was even completely different one of the days, coming with a different side and a different sauce than advertised on the menu, and even more lukewarm than hot. Could've just been an off day, but I wanted to at least mention that. Again, this is comparing the two days to each other. THAT BEING SAID: We really enjoyed the breakfast burrito with potatoes and the coffee options. Prices were pretty good for being in a hotel. The hidden gem of the trip were the fresh juices they sell. We got those a couple of days and they helped our travel sniffles feel so much better. Definitely recommend trying it out! But if you have a not so great experience it definitely could've just been an off day.

Abigail L.

Yelp
I ordered a chocolate croissant, side of fruit, and an espresso martini. That was $28. Fine, but when I go to pay, the options for tip start at 18%. I'm a waitress and bartender so I have no problem tipping when appropriate but this is not a place with waiters, you just order at the counter and sit, no one is checking in on you so for me 18% is way to high to be starting the tips out at. On top of that my croissant was overcooked, and the chocolate still hard, brittle sticks in the center. Fruit was mushy and bland, I didn't finish it. The espresso martini was delicious but it took about 10 minutes to get which felt way too long for how few people were in the cafe, maybe five others? Half of which already had their food/drink. Overall the café feels more focused on aesthetic decor and food that look good for an instagram photo opp than quality of food or service.

Yelp
On a recent visit to STL stayed at the hotel that Good Press sits in (21C). We tried good press for breakfast twice while in town. The first time I had the soft scrambled egg and green smoothie. The smoothie was so good I had it on the second day too! I will be honest that I was surprised the scrambled eggs were actually looking more like avocado toast than I expected but I wasn't mad about it. The union loafers toast was to die for and I'd come back just for that bread in the future. The second day I did try to order that bread but instead just got basic wheat toast. I waited over 30 minutes to try and get my order and get that fixed. Some of the service members were very kind and open to making sure I got what I ordered and others were short, rude and didn't communicate what happened while I waited so long just for a piece of toast. I think there's room to improve the service and also just keeping things simple by calling the items the same thing between the kitchen and the ordering staff. Overall, room to grow here but still a pleasant option while staying in downtown St. Louis.
google avatar

Jonathan W.

Yelp
We got the classic breakfast and avocado toast. Both delicious. I got a black walnut latte and I would for sure order that again. Love the 21c ambiance and vibe of Good Press. Staff was fun and great to chat with. Sit in the back and enjoy the art! Bar is cool too!
google avatar

Yelp
So excited for a local coffee shop at this end of Downtown West neighborhood! There is surely a community feel. I recommend good press and appreciate that their coffee is local as well: Northwest Coffee Roasters!
google avatar

Kim A.

Yelp
This is a must try! Stopped in for a lunch and was pleasantly greeted. This is one of the most artistic and beautiful locations you will have to snap some photos! The staff was fun and recommended great food and drinks. Ot was such a fun and uplifting place to try.

Sara S.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast and coffee. The right day to start a day filled with meetings. Highly recomend.
google avatar

Dakota N.

Yelp
Such a beautiful gem. Staff is so welcoming and happy to see you. Coffee was great and food was top tier. Bit of a wait, but I'm sure it depends on the time of day. Looking forward to coming back.
google avatar

Britny K.

Yelp
Coffee's were great! Food was too! Super expensive for 4 people to eat there but that is to be expected at a hotel restaurant.

Robert S.

Yelp
This is a nice little coffee shop. The coffees were good. The women enjoyed their avocado toast. The $8 side for 3 slices of bacon is overpriced. It is located in a hotel, so we should have realized it would be a bit overpriced.
google avatar

Katherine B.

Yelp
Tried the black walnut latte, the flavor didn't really come through, but it was a delicious latte. They forgot my friend's food so she had to go ask them to make it after waiting. Beautiful atmosphere, great for taking tourists.
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
The food was great, the ambiance is warm and sweet, and my service was amazing. Mike is such a nice guy. The smashed avocado toast was perfectly seasoned, had amazing crusty bread, and the peppers are out of this world. You need to try it.

Ryan A.

Yelp
Love the ambiance. Exactly the type of place I wouldn't mind spending several hours. Drinks are well crafted. Breakfast burrito fit the bill!
google avatar

Cat M.

Yelp
Delicious and well made food. Good service. Beautiful space! Love that they have so many water options. Heehee. Room temp still, cold still, and cold bubbly!

Melanie S.

Yelp
This place was about a 15 minute walk from my hotel but I really wanted to go because their website showed the yogurt parfait with fresh strawberries and blueberries, and they had pictures of this toast option that looked delicious. It had bananas and coconut on the top drizzled with what looked like honey but it didn't have the name by the picture which I thought was a little odd. I took a picture of that so I could show the server because that's what I wanted to try. Got there, BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! The server said" I wish we had something like that, and told me that the yogurt parfait was already mixed down below for me to get myself. The parfait was strawberry compote with yogurt and the granola was nothing but uncooked oatmeal. I ordered an order of toast, side of bacon, the yogurt parfait and a large coffee. Came out to be $30 VERY EXPENSIVE place and not very good. The staff was nice and the coffee was good though. Overall, would not recommen.
google avatar

Allicent C.

Yelp
The gentleman operating this shop are just great! Food was delicious, hot, and quick! Nice atmosphere too.
google avatar

Daphne B.

Yelp
This is the chicest cafe/brunch spot in Downtown STL. The design and decor is beautiful and inspiring. Order at the counter and enjoy fresh classics like breakfast burritos, breakfast croissant sandwiches and French toast. I especially loved that their gift shop area offers designs from local STL artists. Although downtown it's pretty easy to find parking on the side streets-- don't forget to feed the meter!

Matthew O.

Yelp
The breakfast food is outstanding as well as the friendly service. In particular, the French toast and salmon toast were excellent. The modern vibe with surrounding artwork and ample seating made it an even more enjoyable experience.
google avatar

El Papi ..

Yelp
Papi like very very much! It is a gem in downtown StL. The cafe is very Bonito. The coffee was buenisimo! The batista were great! Loved everything about it!! Papi tecommend!
google avatar

Lisa J.

Yelp
I live across the street and I've been to good press several times for coffee and a latte. It is really good. I've also had breakfast and everything tasted fresh! The service was great! I highly recommend you check it out if you're in the area or staying at the hotel!

Vivian T.

Yelp
Good Press has excellent ambiance and decors. The place was super cute and a nice casual place to chat with friends, play games, or get some work done. I ordered a Mexican mocha which was excellent! The chocolate was nice and the flavors complemented each other well. Regarding the smoke salmon toast I got, the bread was amazing! It was thick and nicely toasted, however the rest of it was a bit salty. Given that it was smoked salmon on the toast it makes sense why it was so salty and the cream cheese spread on the bread complimented helped cut some of the saltiness. I just wish there were more onions to help cut even more of the saltiness of the smoked salmon. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for great vibes and good drinks!
google avatar

Marisol C.

Yelp
Coffee was delicious. The location is so cute with tons of chairs etc for one to lounge in. Most importantly the staff was so very kind and helpful.

Yelp
Great service. Super friendly. The food was amazing. I had the avocado toast. It was perfect. The space is comfortable and artsy. Very instagrammable

Yelp
The place is such a good vibe and friendly staff. Also their latte and salmon toast were

Yelp
Food was fast but did not taste like it was made in a rush. The staff was friendly, always smiling. I had the 2 egg classic. Was impressed with by the whipped butter, bacon was perfect, breakfast potatoes were slightly crispy, just the way I like them. I cannot stand when the potatoes aren't done all the way.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
I know businesses across the country are short staffed, but someone should not have to wait over 30 mins for a to-go latte.

Hannah P.

Yelp
Pretty space, great food, very poor service from the baristas. It's never a good idea to assume customers are illiterate and don't understand what kind of coffee they're ordering, and then charge them for and serve them a completely different drink. Additionally, probably isn't great to get passive aggressive when they ask for the correct drink (which they ordered in the first place).
