The 7 Best Hostels in Lisbon (Updated 2025)

"I loved the intimate downtown atmosphere and cozy beds here — the hostel offers free breakfast, free sangria and dinners once a week, and organizes nights out as well as walking tours through Alfama, Bairro Alto, and Baixa-Chiado; the showers have amazing water pressure and the small setting makes it very easy to meet fellow travelers, which is why it’s my favorite." - Matthew Kepnes

I booked this place for 4 nights while staying in Lisbon and I highly recommend it! It is right in the center of the city (which does mean a little noise) buttt.. the staff were great, breakfast was yummy! and there is a really nice lounge space to spend time in when you want to relax after a big day exploring!

seriously couldn’t recommend this hostel more. Super clean and the people are so kind and the free sangria every night is awesome great way to meet people. Favourite hostel I’ve stayed in, love the vibes! Especially loved the female only dorm was lucky enough to get one of the cave beds and had my own little nook

Nice hostel. The beds are ordered In a strange way. Very exotic. Stayed in a room with 9 bed. The air was a bit stiff. Not much ventilation. And the bathroom is shared with the floor what was a bit not enough. But manageable and it was very clean and neet. So it was ok all together, for a couple of nights it's okay.

Mixed feelings here, the hostel is ok, rooms and toilets were clean,I don't mind pressing buttons to get water out, that's standard in many places to save water and the place is very centrally located although I would say it is not the nicest area since you are right in the middle of the tourist trap area. Staff was nice-ish I'd say, the brazilian guy making breakfast was super cool, breakfast was ok for 5 euro and the bengaly guy on the reception was cool except the rest came out as annoyed of doing their job... the brazilian lady at the reception barely explains anything and would look annoyed if you asked anything, she just looks annoyed permanently tbh; the tall brazilian dude would pretend to be nice and be all over the ladies trying to hook up with any of them, would invite everyone to have sangria around him but the moment he stopped being the centre of attention he would shout and kick everyone away, lol, laundry machine was broken and he didn't know anything about the area to offer a solution, like wtf? Do you even live in Lisbon?; then there was a slovakian? girl who seems to live there in the hostel and seems annoyed by the actual guests doing stuff around her... other than that the cleaning personnel were all nice and did a good job.

The location is good and bad at the same time. It’s in the city center but its really noisy. And it’s very hard to sleep. The building is quite old and the walls are not sounds proof. Only good for partying.

My first 5* hostel review! Honestly everything was perfect. Every member of staff was so friendly and helpful. Cleanliness and security standards were high and the kitchen and bathroom are both big. Location couldn’t be more central and convenient. It’s a very social environment, people chat in the common areas and eat together, but it’s also totally acceptable to keep to yourself (like me for the most part) I met some really nice people here :) My only suggestion would be to increase the time limit of the taps and showers in the bathroom. Currently the shower runs 10 seconds and the taps 2 seconds before you have to press it again. It makes it really difficult to do two-hand tasks. Something like 60 seconds for the showers and 10 seconds for the taps would be more appropriate.

Not sure this is deserving of so many high reviews -this place is clean enough, which is really all you can ask for. The worst thing is the timers on the showers and faucets (you have to press them nearly every 5-10 seconds or the water stops completely.) Having one sink in the women’s restroom is crazy work. Otherwise, this is in a great location which makes up for a lot.

We had an excellent time staying here and it was honestly one of the highlights to Lisbon. All the staff were incredibly accommodating and consistently went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. In particular, Junior was exceptional in making sure our stay was comfortable as well as giving us advice on sites and activities around town. 10/10 would stay again.
