The 7 Best Hostels in Lisbon (Updated 2025)

"I loved the intimate downtown atmosphere and cozy beds here — the hostel offers free breakfast, free sangria and dinners once a week, and organizes nights out as well as walking tours through Alfama, Bairro Alto, and Baixa-Chiado; the showers have amazing water pressure and the small setting makes it very easy to meet fellow travelers, which is why it’s my favorite." - Matthew Kepnes

My first 5* hostel review! Honestly everything was perfect. Every member of staff was so friendly and helpful. Cleanliness and security standards were high and the kitchen and bathroom are both big. Location couldn’t be more central and convenient. It’s a very social environment, people chat in the common areas and eat together, but it’s also totally acceptable to keep to yourself (like me for the most part) I met some really nice people here :) My only suggestion would be to increase the time limit of the taps and showers in the bathroom. Currently the shower runs 10 seconds and the taps 2 seconds before you have to press it again. It makes it really difficult to do two-hand tasks. Something like 60 seconds for the showers and 10 seconds for the taps would be more appropriate.

Not sure this is deserving of so many high reviews -this place is clean enough, which is really all you can ask for. The worst thing is the timers on the showers and faucets (you have to press them nearly every 5-10 seconds or the water stops completely.) Having one sink in the women’s restroom is crazy work. Otherwise, this is in a great location which makes up for a lot.

Great location, decent price. As people have said, there are lots of stairs and no elevator. Not giving it a 5 stars because the female dorm has been turned from an attic to a bedroom. I was placed under the super low roof where I couldn't stand upright at all. Some beds are also on the floor. The AC doesn't reach this part of the dorm and it gets super hot. There's also only 2 showers and 1 toilet 1 sink for the female dorm, where there's about 10 people staying.... Capitalism at its finest.

Excellent location and in quiet zone, except for the doors banging from guests. Odd, eccentric and unhelpful staff and awkward guests... No social interactions. Was told at checkin that breakfast was 4EUR, got down to pay and was told it is 5EUR, trying to scam me. They also try to sell you stuff that previous guests left or forgot. Breakfast not worth it, some dry pancakes with orange juice. Atmosphere is dull in general. Most annoying are the faucets in the bathrooms that you have to press every two seconds. BEWARE DURING HOT SEASONS: NO AIR CONDITIONING! Don't fall for the "there is a fan" tactic. The fan just heats up the room rather than cooling it, basic thermodynamics. And since there is no air circulation humidity just builds up and it smells of mould in the room, almost unbearable. Positive side is the place is clean. Don't try to sleep outside of the 2am to 7am range though, prior to that the guests bang doors and theres terrible loud music from the common room, after that the construction start banging for til the evening.

We had an excellent time staying here and it was honestly one of the highlights to Lisbon. All the staff were incredibly accommodating and consistently went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. In particular, Junior was exceptional in making sure our stay was comfortable as well as giving us advice on sites and activities around town. 10/10 would stay again.

Very welcoming staff. Comfortable beds(No one snoring this time, ha). Room was clean as was toilet and showers. You had to be buzzed in, so not anyone can just walk in. Good activities suggested from a walking tour to a bar crawl. I did both. They also offered a trip to Sintra but I didn't take it as places at Sintra were closed that day. They have an evening Sangria Time, which was a good mixer to meet other travelers. Simple breakfast offered for a few euros. Good crepes! The hostel is near Rossio square, so there are loads of places to eat and drink nearby as well as a convenience store across the street. Pizza restaurant downstairs. Goodnight is easy access from the airport via the Metro with one change. There is also a suggested route using the Aerobus from the Airport but it is out of service. If I visit Lisbon again, I'd stay at this hostel.

Best best best place ever!! I‘ve stayed here already several times and found a second home and real friendship <3 Here works the BEST and COOLEST Staff EVER, they are so welcoming and warmhearted, almost every night somebody is playing music here. They have a keyboard and a guitarre, you can join in the jam and play a song all together. They even take you out for the best sunset views! Never met such lovely people in a hostel! Best Breakfast, good coffee, pancakes, fruits, whatever you want you will find here. Even you get free sangria every night! And then the cozy livingroom, the musicjam…. so cool!! :)) I stayed at the 10 Dorm Female which is super cute, you have little „caves“ where you can have a bit your privacy. The other rooms are really beautiful as well, you can find something special, something artsy in each room and each floor which makes it really interesting to come back and stay at another room! :) The interior is very cool and well designed - you‘ll find a true vintage place and a lot of stories about every vintagepiece! Besides that the Bathrooms and Rooms are very clean, is cleaned everyday, you can use the kitchen or just order a pizza downstairs with a little discount for hostelguests!

Great hostel, in a fantastic location with a super friendly staff 👌 The rooms are relatively big and the beds are comfortable. The bathroom is fine, a little bit small but that didn't cause any issues during my stay. My one small critic would be regarding the towels, they cost 3€ which is not cheap for a hostel and the one I got was really bad, didn't dry anything...
