The World’s Best Airport Meals, According to Travel Editors - AFAR

"At Tampa International Airport, Goody Goody is the reboot of a local 1920s burger shop and is known for its tomato-based secret sauce, offering a nostalgic local burger option on-site." - Michelle Baran

Goody Goody is a favorite of mine. I visited about 10 minutes before closing (my bad) and the line cook looked like he wanted to strangle me! (Photo attached is my best reenactment, he was a lot scarier, however.) The food came out fast, my burger looked like a crime scene. Their special sauce isn’t the samey orangish sauce every other place has, but rather a red sauce. Taste isn’t too remarkable. Burger was good, very meaty! Fry seasoning was patchy but delicious. Lady at counter was nice. This excursion proved both exhilarating (almost being killed by an evil burger chef) and rewarding (eating a good burger) For about 20 dollars not including drink, I would’ve preferred a nicer chef. Now my 4 hour delay is almost bearable! Thank you Goody Goody!

Google
3.2⭐️ It was a decent burger. Just okay, nothing amazing about it. But the fries were made fresh and were really hot and good! We weren’t disappointed with this choice in the airport leaving Tampa.

Google
I love this tribute to the original Goody Goody restaurant that was rejuvenated by the Gonzmart group. This airport stop at Terminal C offers a short menu and for breakfast the coffee is half price of the venue closer to the main aisle in the terminal. The other place is also a Gonzmart property. Goody Goody focuses on malt shop items and offers good hot Gonzmart quality coffee but no decaf or tea. I hope to stop by on my return trip to try the burgers and fries. Great cake slices and and a take away ready to go case.

Google
Bret went there in August 2023. Probably around or before 6am. Good experience. Waiting time. The line was short but still a steady stream of customers even at that time. Only waited a couple of minutes. Food. Burger was the Royale with Cheese. It was so good. It was a burger, topped with a fried egg, cheese, bacon, and a BBQ sauce with mushrooms 🤤. Also got a slice of their seasonal Boston Cream Pie. The slice was pretty big and tasted great. Altogether it was good.

Google
5 stars when compared to airport food. The grilled cheese came on large white bread slices probably the equivalent of 4 slices of toast. Nice golden crust, melted cheese that had some flavor. Price for the sandwich was good, onion rings were expensive but good.

Google
For $10 eggs , grits, fruit, muffin, jam and 3 pieces of bacon wasn't a bad price for airport food! You will need extra butter and sugar for the grits. However they really could cook 2 eggs. Don't forget to get salt and pepper for your eggs. It was cooked quick this morning & everything was hot!

Google
It's in the airport but the food is phenomenal amd the prices are decent

Wendy B.

Google
Can’t really begrudge an airport place for their atmosphere- the food is not as good-y as could be. Had the POX burger- price is great considering you’re in an airport but the chocolate cake 🍰 slice was dry- off-tasting- and lacked any flavor except a weird “after taste” that def wasn’t chocolate. Skip dessert and stick with the breakfast sandwich or a hastily made cheap burger.

Yelp
This is inside the airport and it's basic! There is a kiosk to pick what u want but u can forget about asking questions because that's just to much to ask! And we asked for extra bacon and didn't get it had to go bk to get it and they had an attitude ITS $4 for bacon run us our bacon boo! Was the food hot yes did it taste good it was ok! Would I eat it again no! Wait was to long and almost missed my flight and it wasn't even busy!
google avatar

Yelp
Lunch during layover. Had the Pox Burger and an order of onion rings. The burger was good, as burgers go, but the sauce has an interesting flavor. It's one of those things that tastes familiar but you're not quite sure what it is. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't choose to have it again. The onion rings were crispy and hot and there was a good portion. The staff were friendly enough and service was quick. It's a very small terminal so not a lot of seating but it was adequate and clean.

Yelp
For airport food, this place is amazing! The burger was huge and the onion rings were very crispy. Prices were also reasonable for being in the airport. We had never of this place so we looked up the history and found out it was established in 1925 they had a few locations but the others unfortunately have closed. This is the only one remaining and I hope they continue to keep it open because it has such a great history!

Yelp
Stopped in here for breakfast. The young man working the counter was great. Fast, friendly and efficient. I got a breakfast jimmy style (with a burger on it) and it was great Fries were good. Great place!
google avatar

Yelp
Maybe we were just super hungry, maybe we had very low expectations, maybe we were feeling extraordinarily generous. But as airport food goes, Goody Goody was a surprising find at the Tampa airport. We got the Royale with Cheese (how could any Pulp Fiction fan not?): a big burger topped with a egg over-easy, cheddar, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and BBQ bacon. Big, tasty, with all kinds of flavors in every bite. Thumbs up! If you're in the Tampa airport, a Royale at Goody Goody is worth it, so give it a try!

Yelp
Came here to grab a bite to eat before my flight. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich. It is a chicken breast seasoned, battered, breaded and fried, with lettuce, spicy-sweet pickles, buttermilk ranch on toasted bun for $10.95. I asked for my pickles on the side. Unfortunately they forgot the buttermilk ranch. The fries have to be ordered separate for $3.95. They come with Goody Goody™ seasoning. Honestly it was just salt and pepper. Food was mediocre. Would not come back or recommend.
google avatar

Mykie D.

Yelp
No, no, no don't do it! I understand the history behind this place, but the airport location does not live up to it. Unseasoned and flavorless and dry burgers
google avatar

Christine K.

Yelp
I thought to grab a quick lunch before my flight. The lady was so busy and forgot something I also ordered. The POX burger was just ok. The onion rings were good. The seasoned French fries came out hot but some were soft and the taste was very bland and lack of seasoning.

Cynthia P.

Yelp
Customer service was great. Gerardo was such a gentleman. He even had a warm welcoming smile so early in the morning. The area was clean and not so crowded. The burger was sooooo good. Fleshly made with real ground beef, not a ready made Patty. I will definitely recommend.
google avatar

Anisa S.

Yelp
The burger and fries are separate. I didn't know they were separate and trying to figure out how my $8 burger and $4 water turned into a $19 tab. Turns out the burger and fries are separate and they don't tell you that. Instead they say "airport prices. What are you gonna do" I got a turkey burger with fries and it was actually pretty decent. The bun fell apart in my hands so I'd say get better buns and the fries were a little cold but ‍
google avatar

Beth E.

Yelp
Not many choices in the small section of the airport I was in, so I stopped here knowing they have good burgers. I waited 35 minutes for a burger. Unbelievable! Everyone was complaining and we were all piled up waiting for our order. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because they do make a good burger, but not worth the wait
google avatar

Todd G.

Yelp
Goody goody? More like garbage garbage Skip this place Doesn't even taste like food should taste Hard pass on this garbagio
google avatar

Dwight M.

Yelp
Always like Goody Goody for their burgers. Sat at the counter and also had a cold brew! There is also a wide variety of deserts too.
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
Slow, painful service. The checkout was pleasant, efficient. A simple Fried Chicken sandwich took almost 15 minutes with no explanation.
google avatar

Robyn W.

Yelp
The Tampa airport has a great food court with a few different food and drink choices, and a shared seating and fountain drink area. There is an attendant who is happy to carry your food if you need a hand, and when I asked her for a recommendation, she said "Goody Goody." I got the Vox with cheese and a side of fries. Everything was perfectly seasoned and tasted delicious. I'm tempted to go back for a piece of pie before my plane takes off as it looks delicious.
google avatar

Alisa M.

Yelp
This stinks that you are going out of business. I remember going there all the time when we went to my Nanas, she owned an apt building off of Kennedy on Fielding. You will be missed!

Yelp
After arriving to the Tampa airport super early for my flight on Friday afternoon, I made my way through security/TSA check point in a breeze. The Tampa airport really does have it all figured out. Each concourse of the airport has its own security/TSA check point. Everyone flying through the concourse A,B,C.. etc is in a line with others who are also flying directly from that same gate. I needed to get some kind of food, something to tie me over until I arrived back in Birmingham. The options on food for concourse C are very limited. A greek food spot, burgers and fries, coffee and one more that I am not thinking of. Decided on choosing burgers and fry option. Its nearly impossible to f*ck that up. I am really not the biggest read meat fan, but know that typically at these types of restaurants they have other items on their menu. Ordered the grilled cheese and it was okay. Just okay. It honestly took about 15-20 minutes for my order to come up. How hard is it really to make a grilled cheese I had to ask myself. I have heard Goody Goody has an original location that is a fan favorite. I am not sure if this location in their airport lives up to the original. But for what it was it was pretty decent food especially being in an airport. My only note is it is expensive. Grilled cheese a bag of chips and a drink all cost me $15. Now that might sound like a deal to some people. However, airport food is always pretty expensive.

Yelp
My mom and I went Sunday at 4 - we were seated immediately and that's pretty much the end of the positive part of this review, we waited at the table about 10 min and no server came by. We went up to the counter seats to sit. I ordered the BLT and mom had biscuits and gravy. The gravy looked old (thick yellowish) and the biscuits were hard (by the difficulty with which mom cut through them) My BLT came out with the bacon almost raw. (The fat was white). I asked them to cook the bacon more and it was brought back within seconds with bacon that had been deep fried. The sandwich had very little lettuce and was wilty and the tomato's were paper thin so much so that when I dug the two slices out of the bottom of the sandwich to put them on top of the (now falling to pieces) sandwich. Weird thing is their BLT's have 3 slices of bread. I know this because as I was digging out the pieces of tomato from the bottom of the sandwich, that's where the bits of lettuce were under more rare/rawish bacon. The top two slices had only deep fried bacon between them. I ate some but couldn't believe no one even said anything when I pointed out half the bacon was still raw and hidden under the top part. Just ewwww. And insult to injury, the fries were cold and their texture suggested they may have been reheated. Makes me wonder what else they don't care about doing right. I took mom so she could experience an historical Tampa eatery and just yuk. So I'm laying here in bed with indigestion hoping the sandwich didn't make me sick. Worst $40 (with tip) lunch I've ever had. The orange freeze was OK; nothing to write home about. Bye bye Goody Goody. Shame on you

Yelp
This morning I had an early flight, so my Husband and I ate here. He had Cuban coffee, and toast. I had an egg sandwich, with no meat. I don't eat breakfast meat. :-) I also had water to drink. The food was great, but I didn't eat all of it. My husband ate the other half of the sandwich. If you're in the airport, stop by.
google avatar

Dylan R.

Yelp
This is good spot for a fast cheeseburger. You can also order from the bar at Ulele which makes it very convenient.
google avatar

Kara B.

Yelp
This is one of the two locations. Goody goody is considered a Tampa tradition since 1925. My mom loves their chocolate shakes. We also shared a burger and fries. There wasn't much of a line which was nice. Food came out pretty quickly. No complaints on the food but wasn't anything to rave about. Decent quick food for airport. But I hear the other location is where it's at. @stl.foodie

Rebecca L.

Yelp
I am visiting from Texas and wanted to try something local to the area in the airport and chose Goody Goody. The cashier was very friendly and the food came out fast. I ordered the POX cheeseburger, small fries, and a slice of pumpkin cheesecake for $22. Fries were plain and not seasoned very well, and many had a soggy texture. The POX cheeseburger was smaller than expected and had very little cheese and secret sauce. The secret sauce tasted similar to ketchup mixed with something in it, but I can't put my finger on it. Burger was decent but a bit underwhelming. As mentioned in the restaurant bio, the POX is THE burger that started the Goody Goody legacy. After eating it today, I wasn't truly impressed with the way it tasted. I'm not sure if this is just a bad day for the cook, a bad location, or if it is the same at all locations. The pumpkin cheesecake was a good portion and very delicious.

Yelp
Seriously underrated here. This is a 4-star spot. Recommend adding a double to your burger, and try the hand-spun milkshakes or fresh pies. Not cheap, but overall a great value, for airport food prices. Would get this burger again.

Don H.

Yelp
Tampa airport location. I'm sure the food is quality. Arrived early, ordered at the kiosk at 8:45. manager decided to close early and refunded our money. Very disappointing.

Yelp
5 stars. Okay. I am a bit of a road warrior and I've spent more than my fair share of time in airports all across this great country. Through my travels, I've learned the art of airport dining. You can't go for everything in you see, folks. Something told me the burger was gonna be cardboard, so I skipped it. But the handmade onion rings...now, that sounded promising. Plus, I could see the humongous pan of thick, freshly cut onions being prepared in the kitchen. So, even though it was only 8am... I ordered onion rings and tt hey were friggin fantastic! Six rings come in the order, and a buttermilk onion ring sauce. My kids said the sauce was amazing! I say NO to all mayo!!! (Yuck!) They were hot n fresh. Maybe, the breading could've stayed on a bit better and maybe they could get them a touch longer to get crispier. But even with that, they were Goody Goody!! And I wanna go back and order a batch just for me! (But who am I kidding, in motherhood, nothing is just mine, anymore - LOL!
google avatar

Phuong N.

Yelp
Secret sauce? Not sure how it tasted bc I barely got any. It took longer than I would like to get my burger even when the line was not long. Nothing to brag about the burger. Something to munch on while waiting for my next flight.
google avatar

Lourdes E.

Yelp
Cold turkey burger with no taste but the onion rings were good!. Service was slow and they charged my daughter for a gluten free roll that was not included- just a burger and lettuce.
google avatar

Germanie J.

Yelp
20 plus bucks for 2 breakfast sandwiches and fountain drinks..... yeah I know it's the airport but geeeeez folks. 3 stars because the sandwiches were not anything spectacular.... only came here because it was the only breakfast spot open near us. On a good note, cashier was friendly and service was swift.
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
The Goody Goody in Hyde Park Village is one of my favorite restaurants in Tampa. So, Tampa International Airport tricked me with this branded kiosk at Airside C. While waiting to board, I ordered a breakfast sandwich here. It was the most pitiful breakfast sandwich I'd ever eaten. The egg was rubbery, probably microwaved a bunch of times then left out in a warmer. The cheese and bacon had no flavor. The English muffin was the worst generic bland, also tasting like it had been microwaved and left out for hours. I wish they'd take the Goody Goody name off this generic airport crap and/or close this place.

Fay E.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast plate. Eggs cooked to order. Friendly service. Typical airport atmosphere.
google avatar

David Rey S.

Yelp
Easily the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Located in the Southwest Airlines terminal. Large English muffin crispy outside, soft inside, perfectly cooked egg, cheddar cheese, dab of mayonnaise. The muffin had great flavor it the dry, sawdust type normally served out there. Great flavorful cheese. Must try!!!
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Service is a bit slow in general, which is not ideal for an airport. Fries were heat lamp style, so Luke warm and not so good. I got the Pox burger which is where they say started it all. The burger reminds me of a slightly bigger McDonald's regular burger but, a bit dry, a bit overdone and nothing special. With most places still closed in the airport, I takes what I can get.
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
5am flight to Tampa after 2 hours of sleep... grab a massive sausage, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich at Goody Goody. Real meat, real eggs on a giant English muffin with cheese. The sausage patty is HUGE!!!Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

M Y.

Yelp
Thought I was in line for Starbuck but turned out a lucky mistake. The coffee is good enough but hot breakfast was nice. Prices are good considered in the airport.

Ken K.

Yelp
Burger was red/ pink inside. The young lady working the counter needs to find a job that makes happy, as she was rude and inpatient with all the customers before and after me in line. Did not bother to tell her about the food quality as she would not have cared. The garbage can seemed to enjoy my meal
google avatar

Danny N.

Yelp
They lost my order. I asked after my order wasn't called. My order was not large. I was told it was because of my large order. I nearly missed my plane waiting on the food. Thanks for losing my order and dinner.

Cee W.

Yelp
Solid fast food burger. Tasted as if it was fresh hand pressed, with good cheese and sauce. Great hamburger for an airport Most importantly, don't forget the butterscotch pie with fluffy meringue
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Before a super early Southwest flight, I was happy to see Goody Goody open. I got in a short line to wait for a cup of coffee and Cuban bread breakfast. The menu offers a good variety of comfort foods and their namesake Goody Goody burgers. While waiting, I noticed that the person in front of me was so unkind to the cashier for no reason. Please be kind to staff taking your order! When it was my turn, I expressed my appreciation and her spirits were lifted. The coffee and Cuban bread? Always delicious. There are several coffee options available in this airside but I like knowing that my purchase helps support a local Tampa business. Give it a try when you're on Airside C.
google avatar

Nate T.

Yelp
Not bad but definitely not amazing! All I got was the burger! It's kind of like a smash burger but then again not. Kinda hard to explain. The patty itself didn't seem to be fresh! But all the veggies were definitely freshly cut! The flavoring or the beef itself was ok. Definitely not an eye opener! Too over priced in my opinion but then again they are in an airport.....

John M.

Yelp
All I wanted was a freshly cooked burger and fries at the Tampa Airport. The burger bun was actually cold to the touch, the meat was barely even warm and tasted like it was left over from lunch (it's 6pm). The fries were barely warm and stale tasting. I sent the fries back, but I was too hungry to wait on another burger, so I ate it, but I won't be back. Richard Gonzmart needs to eat here to see if it meets his high standards! Very disappointed in a Gonzmart Family restaurant! I should note that I was the ONLY person in line and there were at least 5 people working in the kitchen, but none saw fit to offer a freshly cooked burger and fries! UPDATE: Just found out from the Manager that the Gonzmart Family doesn't own this particular Goody Goody. They only license the name to another company, according to the Manager. I think the Gonzmart Family should either take their Goody Goody name off or run this location themselves, as the Goody Goody name is synonymous with Richard Gonzmart in Tampa and this location is not up to their standards!

Yelp
The worst burger I've ever eaten. My flight got delayed, SCORE! I have time to go grab good goody burger which happens to be on the other side of the terminal. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and was going to add bacon, until the cashier told me it would be $3 extra.. I'm not cheap when it comes to food, but $3 for bacon is ridiculous! There was only one person waiting for food in front of me and my order still took 15 minutes... when I got my food it wasn't even hot! The fries were not even warm. The burger was the most repulsive meat I've ever eaten. It was dried out beyond dry. I needed a drink just to be able to talk again after choking that rock down. While I have low expectations for airport food, I had higher expectations for Goody Goody Burger.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
This is a decent place to get a bite to eat for a reasonable price. Burgers are a little thin, but taste good. Fries aren't bad either. If you're not looking to spend a ton and just want a quick bite to eat then this is your place.
google avatar

Rich M.

Yelp
6 am flight to Mexico and Goody Goody is serving burgers?! Yess Quick little version of the other store. Food is just as good. Service was quick and polite. After dealing with the rude people at security this hit the spot!
google avatar

Mistyday H.

Yelp
For $10 eggs , grits, fruit, muffin, jam and 3 pieces of bacon wasn't a bad price for airport food! You will need extra butter and sugar for the grits. However they really could cook 2 eggs. Don't forget to get salt and pepper for your eggs. It was cooked quick this morning & everything was hot!
google avatar

Luke S.

Yelp
What a joke! We order two burgers, one with American cheese and one with monterey jack cheese. The monterey jack cheese is a 2 dollar up charge. For context, it's $2.50 to make it a double. We then waited 20 minutes, when the food was ready both burgers had American on them. I went back to the counter and told the woman about the mistake. She was extremely rude and first offered me a single slice of cold jack cheese to place on the burger myself. When I asked if they could remake, she again was rude but finally agreed. I don't blame her, I blame the ridiculous upcharge. Don'twaste your time, go to the news stand and get some trail mix instead.
google avatar

Kamilah S.

Yelp
I came here on my layover from New Orleans, I only had about 45 minutes, so just enough time to stand in a long line, wait for my food, no time to check to make sure it was correct and board my plane...LITERALLY. As I board my plane, sit in my seat, open my burger, what do I see...I said no cheese... what's on there..... CHEESE. I ate the cheeseburger, sorry not sorry to my husband the people on the plane.. I'm lactose intolerant, blame Goody Goody. I had been up since 4:30am, by this time its noonish, I was about to die, no choice but to eat it. THANK YOU.
google avatar

Dianna B.

Yelp
At the gate, waiting for my plane and I'm hungry. I decided to see what options there were. I saw a few names I was familiar with and then saw this one, one I wasn't familiar with. I stood in line, placed my order for a Hyde Park, no onions. I waited, and then got my soda and headed to sit over at my gate. By the time I opened my burger on the plane, I realized, too late, that there were onions on my burger. *sigh* I do this because I don't eat raw onions. They do something to my digestion that isn't very friendly at all. I had to scrape much of the condiments off, eating only 1/2 the bun none of the toppings except the pickles. I was not happy. They couldn't get the no onions right. I did fill out their survey. They responded that they would speak with their people, and I'm sure they will. I'm also to let them know the next time I'm there and they'll comp me a meal. Honestly I won't eat there again, because I can't trust them to get it right.
google avatar

Martin H.

Yelp
Sandi and I had a layover and were looking for a place to eat, so we gave the restaurant a try. I had a good turkey burger and we split some onion rings. The best part of the order was dessert. They have individual boxes of pie and they are delicious. The wait wasn't long for the meal. The onion rings were warm and delicious. If you find yourself at the Tampa Airport give them a try.
google avatar

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Because this is a solid option at the airport. --- --- --- I'm a fan of Goody Goody - the burgers aren't going to change your life, but they're borderline irresistible. I think of them along the same line as White Castle - small and simple but super addicting. When I recently laded back at TPA, I was hungry enough for a snack, but not a full meal. As soon as I saw Goody Goody, I knew that one of those burgers was the perfect amount of food for my situation. As much as I'd normally want to also order a side of fries to go with my burger, Goody Goody is one of the few places that I'd rather just order a 2nd POX. In this case, I opted for just one and it totally hit the spot. The person who took my order didn't seem to be loving life, but I also don't need the employee of the year to take my burger order at the airport. I'll continue to patronize this spot when I'm hungry at the airport, and of course, I'm a huge fan of the Hyde Park location as well!
