This place has the rare combination of serving proper high end coffees but by really, friendly staff. They were more than happy to chat through the menu and help me choose before ordering. It also, somehow, has the atmosphere of a secret beatnik cafe but in the centre of town. I like it, and I'll be back.

Google
Decent coffee. However, it’s more expensive than other offerings in the city centre. A ‘discretionary’ service charge is added. For a takeaway coffee. It’s not really discretionary either, it’s added before the service has even been given! A lot of people aren’t comfortable asking for this sort of thing to be removed and I’m certain Gordon St are aware of this - dodgy practice. If people want to tip, they will do. Add an option to your till, don’t add it to the bill automatically. The signage isn’t exactly clear either. It’s not good practice. Stop importing Americanisms. Pay your staff correctly and increase the price of the coffee instead if you feel they need additional pay - tips should be given post service, as a reflection of the service provided.

The coffee at Gordon St. Coffee is excellent, but it’s already quite pricey. I was shocked to find an optional service charge added to my bill without any mention from the staff. When I questioned it, I was told it was listed on a small, smudged sign—barely noticeable. As someone with hospitality experience, I fully support tipping, but applying a charge without clear communication feels sneaky. Sadly, despite the great coffee, this lack of transparency means I won’t be returning.

Here's a four-star review for Gordon Street Coffee: "I visited Gordon Street Coffee this Friday and had a wonderful experience. The flat white was expertly crafted, with the perfect balance of coffee and milk, delivering a rich and smooth flavor. The Americano was equally impressive, bold and robust, just the way it should be. What really sets this place apart, though, is the atmosphere—it's just amazing! There's a vibrant, welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay longer. Plus, the location couldn't be more perfect; it's convenient and easily accessible. Definitely a must-visit for coffee lovers!"

Google
Coffee is nice and it has a lovely interior. However, they sneak a 4% service charge on your order without telling you. Which I really hate.

Google
I stopped by for an early morning coffee and breakfast. Small seating area upstairs is a nice place to wait for a train. The coffee was superb and the Square sausage roll was a huge slab of sausage with plenty of brown sauce. The perfect breakfast.

Google
Gordon Street does nice coffee, and it should be a go-to for me, especially as I need to be in Central before 8 am now. However, they add an "optional" service charge, which no one is going to argue over in a shop. For the sake of 13p, I feel that the company has stolen from me. I'm much more likely to avoid the shop than ask for a service charge to be removed and the feeling of having money forcibly taken from you sours the taste of the coffee. They could have just added 15p to the cost of a coffee, and I would have paid it without raising a problem. They should charge the amount that they think the product is worth and pay their staff the amount that they believe the staff are worth.

Google
Flat white with Glasgow roast. ☕️ A fruity start with a subtly sweet chocolaty aftertaste:) Balanced yet flavorful, rich and at the same time bright, fresh tasting but not the common sour type. I skipped many other cafes to try the Glasgow roast and am not disappointed. Up to now my favorite cup of flat white.

Yelp
Coffee Pastries Service How do I really feel? Well it is right near train station, it's clean, and the service was ok. It looks trendy but... Not sure if locally owned and sourced. If so then that would matter. I'll pay a little more for that. The flat white I got at costa and Nero was bigger, better and cheaper. Also they said open at 7 and didn't open till 7:05.... I mean they were in there at least and hour before opening, you can't be punctual? Sorry With all the coffee spots around why choose this one? Cool name? Yeah no. Service at Nero was better. Eh.... Maybe it was just me since I hadn't had my coffee yet.

Kate R.

Yelp
I came here to sit in and got a wonderful cappuccino one day and a nice flat white the second day. I really liked the upstairs seating area by the coffee bean roaster and the cool clock. Wished they opened a little earlier, but it's okay. The hours said 7 but it was probably ~10 minutes after both times before they actually opened. Still it was worth the wait.

Yelp
Getting in the festive spirit by having a gingerbread latte - absolutely devine! Served in a takeaway cup due, I'm assuming to COVID-19 regulations. Seating available - just after the lunchtime rush. Lovely visit today.

Mahesh P.

Yelp
*Excellent* coffee - roasted on-prem. Also munchies. So yeah, the coffee is really that good. To be precise, the espresso is *excellent*, and about as good as you'd get at your average joint in Italy (which means it is *good*). It's basically counter-service, or you can head upstairs where they roast their coffee, to sit at a small handful of tables there. There are munchies to be had - good sandwiches, and all sorts of pastry-like fare, most of it quite good too. If you're in the 'hood, and you need coffee, you could do far worse...

Tad D.

Yelp
They don't open before 8am. Two staff lollygagging on the terrace our front, I need a coffee, and they're not open. Wtf is the point of a coffee shop that doesn't open until 8??? Might as well not open at all.

Amber K.

Yelp
I often pop into Gordon street, often for a Glasgow Roast Latte, sometimes for some coffee beans to take home. I pass through central at least twice a day! It's hard not to pop in more often ;) I love their Glasgow Roast Latte, it is one of my favourite take away coffees in town. However it is a little on the pricey side, £2.70 or £2.80 as there's a wee added charge for Glasgow Roast. :( they also sell filter coffee by the cup, usually with a couple of options each day, which can be lovely depending on the coffee the have on that day. It's a little less pricey too :) I like getting their beans to brew at home, they are always pretty freshly ground which is great and have a coffee of the week which is only £5 instead of £7 which is pretty reasonable compared with other local roasters. They also have a loyalty scheme for their beans where you get your 5th or 6th bag free which is great! :) The rolls and hot food always look great, and the cakes are yum! Supplied by Big Bear Bakery, you can't go wrong :) I love the little pieces of marshmallow they sell, perfect to go with a wee coffee if you're waiting on the train. My one gripe with their food is the only veggie breakfast roll is just a potato scone roll, for £2.50!! I've got a coffee to go and went and got a roll to go from else where more than once, I just can't bring my self to pay that for a potato scone?! Madness. It's somewhere I'll be back to time and time again though, and the staff are usually pretty friendly and efficient, especially on a busy morning!

Yelp
This coffee shop is exactly what Central Station needed. It is so much nicer than any of the alternatives and I am not ashamed to admit turning up to the station deliberately early and having to kill time ordering a take away coffee and normally cake to make my journey home much more pleasurable. The coffee itself is kick ass awesome and the fact that the take away cups are the most gorgeous bluey colour always adds to my happy. The cake cabinet is the ruin of many of my healthy eating plans with treats too tempting for my feeble willpower. On my last visit I picked up a salted caramel chocolate tart that was even more awesome than it sounds, yes another one for the ate it too quick to photograph category! I can't understand how the Starbucks and Costa concessions in central are still open. Gordon Street coffee are leagues ahead in every single aspect.

Rebecca D.

Yelp
Such a funky little coffee shop. Reckon you can find somewhere else where they roast their own coffee beans and yet manage to stay so un-pretentious? Because if so, please point me that way. I arrived at ~17:00 on a Thursday evening. The shop was busy, the staff were up to their eyeballs in orders and I still managed to get served a perfect, delicious, smooth latte in under two minutes. The fact that I'd downloaded their loyalty app (better than carrying yet another card, get it on Android and iPhone for a free drink when you've bought 6) and had no idea how to use it did not slow them down one iota. I went upstairs to meet my friend. As others have mentioned here, smokers do tend to congregate near the downstairs entrance. Nothing the coffee shop can do about that, I suppose, but it is unpleasant. He was delighted with his pot of tea and mini bottle of milk. We were tempted to stick around for a pilsner afterwards but, it being a school night, decided to be more sensible. However, since I see that they're open fair late this might well become a new favourite spot for a coffee or a drink before catching a train.

Yelp
My biggest regret is that this place isn't directly on my usual commute. Located both in and out of Glasgow Central railway station, Gordon Street coffee is a very welcome relief from the chains that occupy the rest of the station. The menu doesn't have iced coffee drinks (my one regret) and it only has a few syrups for those who prefer very sweet drinks, but what they do have is high quality. They offer two roasts of espresso to go in any of their drinks and they do the roasting in-house. I've not tried every type of coffee but the ones I have have been superb. The cappuccinos are nice and foamy without being dry and the flat whites have beautiful microfoam. I've not tried it but they serve both beer and prosecco. Certainly a nice option for if you're with coffee drinking friends and want something a bit different. And a variety of teas and soft drinks if you're not in the mood for either. One can (reluctantly) not survive on coffee alone. Gordon Street coffee makes very good treats. At different times I've had a white chocolate and raspberry tart and a pork and black pudding sausage roll. They also have a daily fresh roast for sandwiches and a rotating stock of fresh treats. There isn't much seating but it's not really designed to be used for long time cafe chats. It's very much a train station location and they expect shorter visits. It's still possible to find a seat though, but they're not designed for long term visits. They offer a 10% student discount and have a loyalty card app. The app is generous in that it only requires you to buy 6 drinks to get a free one. I'm personally willing to detour to come here when I have the time. It's a shame Queen Street doesn't have something so good, so I'll need to come here for my quality morning pick-me-up.

Yelp
This part of Central station has been vacant for what feels like forever, since the boot's store that was once here closed its doors, it is good to see a new business start up. Gordon street coffee shop is opened by the Glendola leisure group who plan to invest over a million pounds between their two new establishments creating 40 new jobs, with the second business down stairs a restaurant and bar called Alston bar and Beef, that could be accessed through the coffee shop. The cafe area is bright and new, with plenty of original features still left to see, plenty of cakes with samples on offer, breakfast items available with a choice of coffees including The Glasgow roast. Upstairs has seating for 20 people at the most but there is seating outside, plenty of plug sockets for your phone to charge or laptop, upstairs they have their coffee roaster, if you choose the right seat you can look down and see what's happening at the counter. Staff where nice & friendly and chatty, Coffee was good, cakes are served on same plates as JD Weatherspoons, but that's just the new Churchill pattern. Definitely a place l would go back to and recommend

Yelp
Many moons ago, I declared that the best coffee in Glasgow came from another place (I won't name them here... they've done nothing wrong, just been surpassed, I guess) but the time has come to change my opinion. There is no finer supplier of caffeine than here - and the sister stall under the clock in Central Station - in Glasgow. Every time I've had a glorious caffeine filled blue cup of joy and goodness from here, I've felt the urge to go back and get another one. Or two. Or three... you get the picture. The staff are exceptionally helpful, friendly and smiley at all times, and they make excellent recommendations on roasts, cakes and the likes. The loyalty card and app are tremendous ideas, I've already claimed 2 or 3 free drinks from them this year. That may say more about my addiction to caffeine than anything else, but there you go... In any case... the location is ideal for people on the go, there's some seats if you want to stay inside, and there's even a departure board so you can keep an eye on your train times. Glasgow's new and reigning King Of Coffee...

Briony C.

Yelp
This is a great addition to Glasgow Central station - a lovely, modern, industrial coffee shop where you can enjoy a relaxing drink while you wait for your train. We had a seat downstairs (there's also a mezzanine level) by the door as it was quite warm - downside being that the smokers outside the station were puffing their smoke inside so we didn't end up staying too long. I checked out the offerings available and was going to get a tea, but at the last minute switched to a glass of prosecco as it seemed more sensible in the warm weather. I also got two pieces of the marshmallow - pear and passionfruit - and a slice of chocolate gluten free friand. The prosecco was perfect and just £4.95 for a glass which I thought was not too bad. The highlight for me though was the pear and passionfruit marshmallow. Thanks to Pammi for insisting I get some, and thanks to the genius who made it! What a delight. It's fruity, sweet and perfect to nibble on a warm day. I really enjoyed our visit here before we descended the stairs to Alston - I can't wait to return for a pot of tea with some more marshmallow.

Yelp
Although I live in Manchester now, I like to keep an eye on the Glasgow scene - mostly for nostalgia, but also for tips of where to try out when I make trips home, and this is one of the places that I heard a buzz around. And as it happens that buzz was totally justified. I popped in here after having my nails done by the wonderful Tammy at Naf Salon and the super sweet Barista noticed my nails straight away where we proceeded to chat about nail art and I pointed her in the direction go the salon. On to the coffee, I had my standard skinny latte - with the Glasgow roast - which was honestly one of the best cups of coffee I've ever had. It certainly fuelled my journey to the Necropolis. I loved the coffee so much in fact that I went again on Sunday and picked up some of the ground Glasgow Roast to bring home with me, along with some of the cold brew coffee for the journey down. After sharing some of the Glasgow Roast with the girls at work, it's safe to say there are a few Gordon St Coffee fans South of the border.

Kath R.

Yelp
I have a confession...I'm a coffee addict! Sadly for me, I don't work in town, nor do my trains go through Central, BUT, I have been known to go completely out my way to get a coffee here as it is the best in town, hands down. These guys take coffee to the next level and roast all their own beans on site, using their own blend of beans. They have a standard house blend which is good, but for a few pennies more you can ask for the Glasgow Roast which is a must in their flat white! You can even buy bags of their beans to take home with you - no more instant! Coffee aside, they always have a tempting range of treats on the go, some savoury and some sweet. I haven't tried any of their savoury snacks yet but can recommend the lemon and raspberry tarts, yum yum! There is a selection of indoor and outdoor seating (for when Mr Sunshine is smiling on us) and they also offer takeaway if you're short of time. I've said it before but I'll say it again, best coffee in town.

Fiona H.

Yelp
When I first started at work I immediately noticed everyone had these gorgeous teal takeout cups. On close inspection, turns out it was Gordon St. I love the Glasgow Roast and have attended and loved the cupping class that they do! http://coffeeandconfetti.me/drinks/masterclass-at-gordon-st-coffee/

Geraldine C.

Yelp
Love this place! It is my saviour at 7am on week day. The Glasgow roast is a real kick of a coffee and is just the thing for a Monday morning. The staff are always pleasant and not overly "coffee chain" friendly. In other words just what you need first thing in the morning Top caffeine stars for a top place

John R.

Yelp
The first time I visited Gordon Street Coffee, I had low expectations. It's in a train station so I would think it would be overpriced mediocre food. But Gordon Street totally blew my expectations away. As a bit of a tea snob this is now one of my Glasgow go-tos for great loose tea at a nice strength. I really like the blend they use, and they even serve it in metal tea pots. On my most recent stop here, I was on my way to a Yelp elite event with some time to kill and I was REALLY hungry. Practicing my inconsistent self control, I got a roast vegetable and bean salad. It was SO good. I was hugely disappointed when I got to the bottom and there was nothing left. The next time I come, I want to try their crawfish salad sandwich. It looked amazing... so I really hope that's an every day thing they serve. Either way... I'm definitely coming back here.

Gordon M.

Yelp
I don't work in the city centre so it's taken me a while to get here and I'm glad I did. Slotted into a tiny space (don't let the frontage fool you), with their own roaster upstairs, it's another great example of the difference in quality an independent shop has over some chains. A cappucino was first on the order but it didn't take me long to be swayed by the chocolate and walnut brownie on offer, which was moistly deliciously chocolatey and scoffed sharpish! The cappucino was good, not too bitter a roast, and a good temperature (I've seen other reviewers complain it's too hot and not smooth, well they must be listening as mine was almost perfect (I'd put it up there close to papercup). There really is nothing quite like a nice dark, smooth coffee, the rich crema and glossy frothy always looks so inviting. Only slight downside is that it's a little small inside but the clever layout meant we managed to get a seat upstairs, right next to the shiny red roasting machine, a wonderous piece of engineering (but, alas, a little too large to fit in my kitchen). Also of note is the train departures board inside meaning no worrying if you are going to miss your train, smart thinking! I've no doubt that, if I were to use Central Station everyday, I'd quickly become a regular here. The only downside is that Riverhill is pretty close which means, from now on, I'll have a difficult decision to make for my caffeine fix!

Mimmi R.

Yelp
I stopped by the other day for a coffee and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had almond milk! I sometimes find almond milk lattes can be a bit meh, but when they're good, they're really good - and this was one of the really good ones. It was creamy and delicious, and the balance between the almond milk and the coffee was perfect. So why only three stars? Well, on this visit I only had a coffee, but I did have a quick look at their food and could only see one or two veggie friendly ones, and no vegan friendly ones at all. And that's among a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, tarts, and so on. Very disappointing! It's safe to say I won't be stopping by to eat sometime soon, because... well, I couldn't. It's a shame, because the place itself is very nice and I love the decor, plus the staff seemed really lovely. And the coffee was delicious.

Michelle B.

Yelp
How I've not managed to come across this place until now, after having lived in Glasgow for four months, is beyond me! In other words, this is probably on my top three of cafés in Merchant City! In my opinion, the pictures on Yelp do not do the interior decor justice. It is quite modern and metallic. I particularly like the upstairs of this café. The coffee is great. I have yet to try one of their delicious-looking sandwiches. The places is generally clean, has fast WiFi and late opening hours. What's not to like? :-)

Heather D.

Yelp
This place is seriously great! Wow. What a fun little boutique coffee shop with prices that don't break the bank. Service is super fast and friendly. Their mocha latte was delicious and came with a marshmallow which I loved. If you order any coffee - get their house blend for sure. They have this salmon breakfast thing on a bread roll with beets that might still be the most delicious breakfast item I've ever tasted. It's a must order. Final Verdict: There selection is amazing and I'd definitely strongly suggest supporting a place like this instead of the huge corporate chain like Starbucks / Cosa.

Lucy B.

Yelp
I must have walked past this place hundreds of times but, not ever having been a coffee drinker before, there was never any point in me venturing inside. However, times have changed, and I'm on a journey of coffee discovery.... I ordered an Americano, and shyly asked what sort of coffee it was. The first girl didn't know! I thought coffee places were supposed to be able to reel off info aplenty about beans and roasts and other technical coffee stuff. The second girl sort of knew - it's a blend of 4 different beans, created to taste quite mild and sweet. It's easier to drink that the Dear Green, which is very dark tasting apparently (I have yet to find out!). I quite liked it, it did taste sort of sweet, and not too bitter. It was £2 for a 'Wee Americano'. A big one was £2.30. I didn't order anything else - it looks like they sell a fine selection of sandwiches, and lots of cakes, but there was nothing that seemed suitable for vegans. I had my coffee to take-away, so there was no real time to soak up the atmosphere in the place. What I did notice though, was that they have screens showing the train departure times, which is very handy. So next time I'm waiting on a delayed train, I now know that I can pop in here, and wait in a comfortable environment rather than the cold platform.

Lynne M.

Yelp
Gordon Street Coffee is in a very handy location at the entrance to Central Station. There is a great range of bagged coffees (whole beans and ground) to take away. They have a loyalty scheme that means you get your seventh bag free. I love the Glasgow Roast coffee and now find Nescafe just doesn't cut it for me at work anymore :-) They also stock Drygate beers including an espresso stout. I haven't tried the food yet but the sandwiches and cakes look great and I will definitely eat there soon. The staff are very friendly and approachable.

Rocco G.

Yelp
Gordon Street Coffee, looks like a fantastic place and they boast about roasting their own coffee. However, just because you can roast your own coffee does that mean you are any good at it? I'm really not convinced. Personally, I don't like the coffee in here. I've had the espresso a couple of times. It's bitter and burnt tasting, acidic with absolutely no creaminess. The opposite of what it should really be like. The cappuccino I got one morning on the way to my train was also too hot as Glass C points out. I cannot stand boiling hot milk, it ruins the taste and burns my tongue. Price wise, being located in Central Station its decent enough value. The coffee is sensibly priced, which is refreshing and the selection of sandwiches and cakes are good even if a little pricey. Gordon Street also sells various ground coffees to go and our office regularly buys from here in order to keep us awake and working in tip top condition throughout the day. Bags are priced between £5 and £7 pounds and again I've found that the quality and tastes vary massively. Be sure to ask about the type of coffee you are buying as they often get very odd (sometimes experimental dare I say) roasts in. Some coffees I have really struggled to drink, so take note and be sure to go for something you know you'll be into as its quite the hit on the old wallet. All in all, nice place but not a fan of the coffee. I'll be sticking to Costa Coffee in Central Station me thinks.

Christina M.

Yelp
It was a good old-fashioned dreich day a few weekends ago when I sought refuge in Gordon St Coffee. I had passed so many busy coffee shops and when I saw a few seats available inside I was rather glad to get inside and warm up... And warm up I did! Particularly upon seeing how well-priced the coffees and food were. Gordon St Coffee roast and grind their own beans and it STILL costs less than a Costa or a Starbucks?? SOLD!! I had a latte and a hot ham and cheese roll. Now, when I say roll, this was more akin to a massive load of juicy gammon and a heap of smoked applewood cheddar on a huge brioche bun, served with a basil mayo and sliced tomato (which I had asked the girl if she could leave it off, as I don't like it (I know, I'm weird.) but she either forgot or hadn't heard me. No biggie!) And boy it was delicious. A simple ham and cheese roll it was not. Flavourful, not too salty and the cheese added a nice level of creaminess to proceedings. And the coffee? Rich, slightly sweet and utterly warming, it really hit the spot. Any time I pass through Central now, I have to get myself a Gordon St Coffee. Costa and Starbucks can just toddle off now...

James W.

Yelp
Awful coffee, Costa-clone. Avoid I really, really dislike this shop. It's completely fake. It markets itself as a modern quality focused independent cafe but is none of these things. You have a choice of two coffees, their house blend, (a poor traditional dark roast) or their "Glasgow roast" which tastes like it's been baked in a wood fire stove for three hours. That horrible burnt smell that envelops Gordon Street every now and then... that's them burning the beans in the roastery upstairs! I've visited several times and none of the staff have ever seemed the least bit passionate or knowledgeable about what they do or particularly interested in providing good service. They certainly are not well trained as they use similar methods to Costa/Nero etc. In fairness it's a location that will attract a lot of unsavoury characters that they'll have to put up with on a daily basis. They also advertise other products like cold brew and filter coffee to mimick better quality shops. Whilst at the same time offering a bunch of syrups and a huge drink range like the big chains do. Trying to be everything to everyone doesn't work. They do also offer some food but I've never fancied mac'n'cheese from a coffee shop. This place is owned by a huge company who've simply tried to jump on the growing trends in the coffee market. They've bought cheap equipment, cheap coffee and don't train their staff properly all so they can make the maximum money out of the people they lure into the shop. They're so lazy even the stuff they write on the chalkboards is stolen off the Internet. The only thing they have going for them is that they are in a handy location for getting the train, but to be honest I'd rather suffer the headaches of caffeine withdrawal than have their coffee.

Laura B.

Yelp
Simply one of the best coffee shops in Glasgow. Rare is it to find decent coffee this side of Italy, but Gordon Street does Glasgow proud with lots of their own delicious blends. Their Glasgow roast is always available and is my personal favourite - it's a lot stronger and richer than the regular blend so a good choice for anyone who likes their cuppa Joe to pack a punch. Bonus points go to Gordon Street for their fantastic app! Download Gordon St. Coffee and you'll have a nifty loyalty programme in your pocket. Scan the QR code in the shop every time you buy a coffee - and you'll get your 7th free. Even better, you get a free coffee for simply downloading the app - no need to buy anything at all. It's a small but cosy place, perfect for a quick meeting - I always find excuses to go there for one. Sandwiches on rustic bread with loads of fillings to choose from means it's a winner for a working lunch. Did someone mention cake? Rivaling the veritable smorgasbord of cake selection in the heart of Glasgow - Gordon Street's will call out to you, and you're going to want to take them all home. The pecan brownie is devine, as are the croissants and pain au chocolats. Go get your caffeine fix!

Debbie B.

Yelp
A lovely range of coffees, at reasonable prices, and if you get the App your first coffee is free. Just don't make my mistake of going for something fancy (Macchiato) and end up with a midget coffee. They have a small range of cakes, and I chose the chocolate loaf, which was a little disappointing. Cake shouldn't be chilled, and it lacked a bit of flavour. My colleague went for the banana loaf and gives it 2 thumbs up. I may return to sample some of the delicious looking roast meats, along with a cheeky bottle of Innes & Gunn (yes, they're licensed!). If you're popping in for a pre-train journey coffee and nibble, you can even keep an eye on the times on their board.

Dave C.

Yelp
I was very disappointed by Gordon Street Coffee. As an out of town coffee freak I had my short list of essential places to visit, for coffee, tea and brunch, before I'd even arrived and Gordon St was amongst the top three! So it was the day after Boxing Day and I needed somewhere for breakfast and as this place was one of the few 'independent' options open it seemed the ideal time to pop along. Unfortunately there was little in the way of food and the grumpy assistant just pointed me towards another grumpy assistant working a hot plate with bacon, black pudding and such like. So, it was a bacon roll for me then. I also ordered a flat white. Looking around the place seemed like a good idea at one time, but clearly needed a good clean. All the 'brand' BS stuff was there to demonstrate this was a 'real coffee shop'. But actually as I watch the barista performing his duties I knew he had no idea. He banged out the portafilter and immediately replaced the grounds with fresh. No cleaning out the old grounds first. Just lazy. He didn't really watch what he was doing as he tamped the coffee and then fiddled to get the portafilter into the machine - has he made espresso before? Out came the coffee. Seemed to be extracting too slow from what I could see. The woman at the till helped him with the milk. No latte art, mediocre consistency to the milk. Pretty much a mess in a glass. But I needed coffee by now ... so I took my bacon roll and drink upstairs. There's a scruffy looking guy with a expansive Keith Lemon bandage on one wrist fiddling with the roaster they have up there. He didn't have the fluid movements of someone who knew what exactly he was doing. He loaded the roaster up and off it went. He seemed bored and miserable ... and actually the whole staff 'team' (I say team!) seemed to be in a major grump-on. Maybe this is normal. Maybe they didn't want to be working Sunday. I dunno. The whole vibe stunk. So the bacon bit was good, but just 1 1/2 pieces meant it was a meagre offering at best. The roll was fresh enough but nothing special and completely dry. No butter. The coffee was amongst the worst I've tried in an 'indi' place. Frankly embarrassing. Way too hot, wrong size glass, deadly bitter (in a bad way - due to water temperature and extraction!) and just barely drinkable. I sipped what I could to get my simple caffeine kick but left half of it! At the end of the day it's all about the staff and all about the standards. I'm afraid on my one visit neither were anywhere near good enough. But this is a train station location and so regulars are probably less important than they might be for a standard indi coffee house. They're more geared up to transit customers who they'll likely never see again, so why do they care ... the till still rings. But what about pride?

Yelp
Friendly and swift service here last Saturday afternoon. Good Americano + 25p off for supplying my own cup so they're on the ball with that.

Yelp
I love that the coffee comes in two sizes: "wee" and "big", not grande and macho-grande and over-macho-grande or similar nonsense (No, I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande, those wounds run deep). The staff are friendly and on both my recent visits my takeaway coffees came promptly. It's not too pricey (2.40 for a "big" latte) The "Glasgow roast" latte was very nice indeed. However the whatever-the-standard-roast-is americano was a little thin and too hot. I don't generally buy a coffee so I can start drinking it quarter of an hour later once it's cooled down. I'm also not convinced by the practice of having a standard and 'premium' roast in the first place. I'd suggest the baristas start asking if the customer would like a wee splash of cold water, if they're going to serve it that hot. A 'good three' - three-and-a-half stars, maybe? I'd recommend popping in if you are passing and fancy a coffee, and seeing what you think. Oh, hey, they've got departure and arrival screens for the trains up by the tills, so you can keep an eye on the train you're planning to get or meet. That's another quarter of a star right there, they're up to 3 3/4 now.

Yelp
Keeping this short and sweet the best coffee in Glasgow. Full stop. Now expansive should you wish to read on, two distinct roasts of coffee both done in house and brewed to perfection. The Glasgow roast I believe has the edge but always taste is a personal preference. Breakfast is good, a large and assorted range of snacks this is a welcome edition and change to the high street chains and it quite literally wipes the floor with them all. Best coffee in Glasgow no doubt, best coffee in Scotland has to be up there I can think of none that better it. Arrive in the city and need a caffeine fix? Do yourself the favour you deserve.

Yelp
Note: This posts originally appeared as a contribution to The Lassies Who Lunch blog. As an honorary 'laddie' I was invited to Glasgow's latest artisan coffee place; Gordon Street Coffee (GSC). Situated right at the station entrance and next door to its sister restaurant Alston Bar & Beef, it appears to have the ideal spot. Thousands of commuters flow past every morning and if they can tempt folks away from Costa and Starbucks they shouldn't struggle for business any time soon. GSC is one of a growing number of coffee houses in Glasgow roasting their own beans on the premises. They have gone one further and created a unique blend, aptly titled the 'Glasgow Roast'. I was lucky enough to try the house espresso and the fully roasted espresso (more on the differences in a sec) and I can certainly vouch for the fresh flavour. The purpose of my night however, was to see the roasting process in action. Master roaster John Gartly invites Glasgow's burgeoning population of coffee experts to join him twice a week for free demonstrations. Luckily, there wasn't a huge crowd on the first floor where the compact Diedriech roasting machine was situated. John (we swapped business cards so I can use his first name) told me about the relatively small size of this unit compared to previous jobs. It does the trick mind you and services an already healthy customer base. He also took care in explaining the differences in how the coffee growing regions of the world impact on the various tastes of each bean. His knowledge of not only the growing, farming and trading process but the livelihood of the growers is astounding. Happy to chat about his craft and how he has learned his trade, it was refreshing to hear real passion and not a textbook run-through of the roasting process. Following our lesson on the quality of beans, the roasting process began. I'm not going to go into the full process but it was quite hypnotising. The beans are turned and tossed over burning hot plates and begin to crack. The genius of the roaster is to disregard gadgets or timers to determine progress. He measures the roast by the first crack (the expansion of the bean - much like a popcorn effect), which produces the house blend, and the second crack; producing the full Glasgow Roast. The house blend will suit those who like their coffee to kick them in the face with a pleasantly bitter taste. The full roast is far smoother and is to be enjoyed over the morning paper. My personal preference is the harsher wake up call. Relying on smell, he then opens the hatch and drops the smoking, heavenly smelling beans out of the roaster to be turned, buffered and cooled. The super fresh cargo is then bagged and tagged for sale to the public. I asked how fresh one might expect coffee beans to be in the larger chain stores around the city. And while not condemning them, he simply made the valid point that by the time beans are roasted, processed, bagged and transported from the roasting plant in the south of England; the shelf life will have naturally diminished. Of course, in addition to the beans being roasted upstairs, the baristas on the ground floor are serving up the usual selection of Lattes, Cappuccinos and herbal teas along with food and cold drinks. The shop also has a drinks license, which means travellers can enjoy a wee beverage while they watch the in-house departure board.

Yelp
We are so lucky to have so many independent coffee shops in Glasgow just now, Im certainly a fan of this coffee culture phenomenon. Gordon Street Coffee has a great location, I have had both take away and sat upstairs. The decor is lovely, nice displays of food and cake. I have tried a few sandwiches and have no complaints, same with cakes. My only gripe - and this is very much personal preference - is my cappuccino is usually always too milky. Im quiet particular with my coffee, I like to be able to taste it and regrettable with many coffee shops just now its either too weak a coffee or to much milk.

Yelp
Gordon St Coffee is like a micro-brewery of coffee beans. They have made it their mission to deliver unto Glasgow's travelling masses coffee of all different types. And cake. And some tea. And more cake. I've only been here a couple of times but so far I'm pretty impressed. The staff are crazy enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their products and processes used. They've now brought in a range of teas ( company name escapes me at the moment) - which are awesome! And I'm not really a tea drinker! We went to a tea night here last month where we got to sample loads of teas, had a great presentation from the owner of the tea company. And ate cake.. Lots of cake. I'd recommend grabbing a seat on the mezzanine if you can - you'll have s great view of the train departures/arrivals screen and it's a little quieter. Oh, they've teamed up with Drygate for next month's coffee festival...coffee infused beer....Bring. It. On!

Yelp
I met my cousin at Central Station yesterday for coffee and weren't sure where to go. We saw this new coffee shop on the way out and decided to give it a go. We were quite glad because it started pouring with rain outside just as we sat down. The decor is quite trendy with bags of coffee beans around and metal stools. We decided to sit in the upstairs section which had a few people working on their laptops. A good place to get some work done while waiting on a train. We both ordered coffee and cake and it came to under a tenner which I thought was quite reasonable. Both our cakes were lovely. I'm not a huge coffee drinker so I can't really comment on the quality but it tasted fine to me. It looked like they do some nice sandwiches and burgers as well which you could eat in or take away. This is a nice place to pop into while waiting on a train or like us waiting for the rain to ease off!

Yelp
Have to say chatming wee place to visit ...shame its next door to "that chippy" lol My partner and I popped in on our way out of the station I opted for a big latte ...as mentioned previously in an other review i like the big & wee way of naming things ....i got the big :-P I had a sandwich (new yorker club type sandwich) salami & chicken ect For the price (£4) it had enough filling was well presented and was very fresh and tasty to boot My partner got a large tea (although she did ask for a small lol) the cool wee bot with the diffuser held enough for 2.5 cups!!! So fantastic value Despite other comments my coffee wasn't wasted by being too hot it was just right My only critique is the tea was far too strong as my partner likes her tea weak Even tbough removed the diffuser as soon as it arrived at the table (the motion of carrying it on the tray was more than enough to strengthen the flavour from shop to outside table!! " it didn't get wasted i drank that after my coffee lol" The staff were friendly and chatty wich is always good to see I would recommend it If not for presicion or the sake of a rant like some other posts wich did make me chuckle But purley for the fact it didn't break the bank and was decent quality :-)

Yelp
I went here after walking around Glasgow for a few cold hours and absolutely loved my Americano. It was smooth and rich and, with cream, perfectly balanced! The ambiance is perfect for a restful stop or a conversation with a friend and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Would come back next time I'm here!

Yelp
A great addition to Central Station providing a cool looking venue for a quick coffee and sandwich (or some of the gorgeous marshmallows, or cakes). They offer two different coffees although I prefer the standard roast rather than the premium version. You can keep an eye on your train's departure on the display boards. If you've got more than a couple of minutes take a seat upstairs and check out their coffee roaster which features in their occasional coffee roasting workshops.

Yelp
well it looks nice. and the food does too. in fact the spiced apple loaf was very nice. but the coffee was foul. too hot, too bitter, another place with barista's that don't appear to have a clue. some will say that boiling hot coffee is a matter of taste, but I'm going to have to disagree. go to any of the decent independent coffee shops in Glasgow, buy a flat white, and you'll see a pattern: Artisan roast: not boiling. smooth as velvet, tasty as hell. papercup: not boiling. smooth as velvet, tasty as hell. siempre: not boiling. smooth as velvet, tasty as hell. CCCT: not boiling, smooth as velvet, tasty as hell. as a control, I checked out flat cap coffee in borough market, and kaffeine in fitzrovia, purely for research I must add, and all for you: not boiling, smooth as velvet, tasty as hell goddamm wow!! if you check out the recommendations for serving temp from the espresso institute, linked here for you bit.ly/1kZDTAt and it's 67 deg C give or take 3 degrees. too hot and you over extract and it's a bitter cup of evil. take note. rant over.

Yelp
Great coffee, lovely lunches and empire biscuits to die for! Turn up ten minutes early for your train and grab a snack for sure.

Yelp
We weren't here to get a train but a mutual love of being in train stations brought us to Gordon St Coffee and I'm very glad it did. All I had was a latte but god it was a really really good latte, up there with the top 3 lattes that have ever entered my mouth. They ask if you want medium or dark roast, something I wish every coffee place would do, they also have the option of semi-skimmed milk (I hate only getting skimmed/whole options). They have jugs of water which at the time had apples and cucumbers in it, they also had a honey pot for those that prefer honey to sugar. The interior is lovely and the outside seating is a great place for people watching as it's right next to the main entrance. I tried the pistachio carrot cake which was delicious and my vegan friend had the vegan carrot cake which he said was also delicious. He was also very excited that they do a vegan tattie scone and square sausage roll so I'm 100% sure we'll be visiting again. It's open early even on a Sunday which is handy at a time when most places are closed. A lovely place to watch the world go by.

Yelp
Rushed in here for a morning coffee en-route to the train and it was lovely although quite small. I'm more used to a bucket of the stuff so I felt a wee bit cheated. Doesn't stop me from popping in now and again though.

Yelp
Its always hit and miss with this place. Sometimes the coffee is outstanding and sometimes its scolding and bitter. I go mostly for coffee, but the few times I have tried their sandwiches they have been great (although a little pricey!)

Anton T.

Yelp
We showed up at 8:45 after driving for 20 min to get there because it was one of the only places open in the city on Sunday morning. They were closed, told is they open at 9 and rudely sent us off.
