Food was really nice and the service was decent. The outdoor seating area is wonderful, particularly amongst the surrounding views and wild peacocks. Baguettes and sandwiches were great and the food arrived promptly! This is one of the restaurants within the gorge, located nearer to the middle a centre for a lot of the walking tracks. Venue can get busy in the summertime around peak times.

Jan 2024: lovely space at the top of the gorge chairlift. Not as overpriced as you'd imagine a touristy location like this would be, but still a little too expansive for what is served. 80c per sour cream and 80c per sweet Chili pot, when they should have come automatically with the wedges. Other meals seemed ok, but we weren't famished. Service was lovely, but the queues are sometimes way too long, so we are elsewhere

Nice little restaurant in cataract gorge surrounded by lively peacocks. Food and service was good. We had the calamari and the today's special seafood chowder in cob bread.

A lovely meal in beautiful surrounds. Some classic menu items executed well. Service was a little slower than expected, but worth the wait

While exploring the Cataract Gorge and the surrounding areas, why not call into the Gorge Restaurant for a refreshment and or something to eat. A great place to relax from a walk up to Duck Reach and back.

The food was great we had beef cheek and crispy skin duck. Atmosphere was great however service was a bit lax. There was only 2 other tables and our food took ages to arrive plus they forgot our drink for 15 minutes.

Do not mind the peacocks and the photogenic view: just the food is a good reason to visit S41°26.699' E147°7.081' It is worth eating here for the photogenic scenery when you are sitting outside or for the peacocks? Not during our rainy lunch visit in February of 2020, just sitting alone inside without the view. Often great views make for poor food. Was it true for the Gorge restaurant? The first impression was good: white tablecloths and linen napkins. Formal dining is a good sign for good food. The interior is classic 1930. We loved the beautiful “Art Deco” chairs. We ordered the catch of the day: Blue Eye fish with roasted Parmesan potatoes & truffle green pea sauce ($37.90) and Tasmanian Bush Pepper Calamari with chilli & lime rice vermicelli, coriander & rocket ($22,90) in combined with a glass of Riesling white wine. Both fish dishes were well prepared, nicely presented and tasted delicious. The pepper on the calamari provided a tasty combination. We preferred the vermicelli to be warm. The blue eye fish tasted really well. The combination with the Riesling wine resulted in a very enjoyable lunch. The chef knows how to prepare fish dishes. The waiter offered advice about the menu and did a good job. Afterwards, we had a nice conversation with the manager. The Gorge Restaurant is a good reason on its own to do the Cataract Walk from the Kings Bridge and Cataract Cottage and afterwards stroll back to town through Cataract Gorge. The interior is classic with white tablecloths and linen napkins, the food is gourmet and the service very professional. On our 3-week culinary journey in Tasmania, this restaurant is the one we remember the most. Highly recommended.
