Gorham Mountain Trail is a scenic moderate hike in Acadia that beautifully combines coastal and mountain scenery. The 2-mile round trip (or 3.5 miles if combined with Ocean Path) climbs about 525 ft in elevation, offering stunning views of Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Otter Cliffs, and the endless Atlantic Ocean. 🌊⛰️ The trail features granite steps, rocky ledges, and gentle scrambles, but it’s much less exposed than Beehive — a great choice for those wanting big views without the iron rungs. Don’t miss the Cadillac Cliffs side trail, which adds a short, adventurous detour through rocky crevices and along sea-facing cliffs. Start from the Gorham Mountain parking area on the Park Loop Road, just past Thunder Hole. Parking is limited, so arriving early helps beat the crowds. Many hikers pair this with Ocean Path for a rewarding coastal loop hike that’s as photogenic as it is peaceful. A classic Acadia must-do — moderate, scenic, and full of those postcard-worthy views that make this park unforgettable.

This is a moderately difficult trail with beautiful views from the mountain. The trail takes you up the mountain and down to Sand Beach. You can walk up Ocean Path Trail and exit just before the section that goes down to Otter Point to get back to the parking lot. The trail includes some boulder climbs, but no rungs or ladders. We got there early in the morning and did not have trouble parking.

This is a perfect hike to do with the family. Tons of rocks and nooks and crannies for the little ones. Not to strenuous. A lot of fun.

Definitely a moderate hike. Had to use hands multiple times! Great views just before the summit! Overall hike took us just shy of 3 hours. Hiking boots are a must! Rocks are slippery when wet and there’s mud! Definitely worth it if you have the time, but be mindful of slippery weather conditions!
