Our’s was a last minute booking for a wedding anniversary city break. Not knowing much about Berlin, we followed online suggestions about the best places to stay for those unfamiliar with the city, and most guides recommended the district, Mitte as it’s close to the best known historic and cultural sites for newcomers. ||We very nearly booked other places to stay but a slight adjustment on the budget parameters for our accommodation and Gorki Apartments popped up in the list of suggestions. ||It’s a fabulous place … while all the apartments are unique, ours (Schulze) was great even though I suspect it’s not even one of the “nicest” rooms. I was a bit puzzled when we had to go through the bathroom in order to get to our bedroom/kitchenette, but it turned out to be a really smart use of the space. Room accessories were good quality - from Dyson fans (the rooms are not air-conditioned, but this is common in Europe) and hairdryers, to a dishwasher and fridge in your kitchen. Complimentary coffee pods and teas are refreshed daily … so it allowed us the independence to sort our own breakfast out before early starts to see the city. ||As others have said, you couldn’t choose a more central spot to travel around, the underground is metres away and the tram just on the doorstep. ||It’s a pretty grown-up space for people who like a bit of independence when traveling. But they still offer a concierge service for those who want to be a bit spoilt on their vacation. ||Our room had windows into the inner courtyard, so we weren’t bothered by the traffic noise that those facing the main street might. The only thing out of the hotel’s control is the conscientiousness of other guests if they choose to hang out in the courtyard and talk loudly, which we had on a couple of nights as we had our windows open. This is also where smokers sit, so we had cigarette smoke drifting into our room some evenings too. And it was garbage collection day one night so the wheelie bins stored in a section of the courtyard were super noisy early one morning when they were wheeled out over the cobbled paving, for collection on the main road. ||But overall, it was a great find and we enjoyed our stay, thank you
