Insanely beautiful during cherry blossom season around early May. You can easily spend a few hours here, going up to the tower and seeing the star shape from above, and taking a stroll through the premises. Highly recommend a stop here, though do note it can get a bit crowded during peak times.

A big park with wonderful greenery of flowers and trees. The historical building in the centre of the park was pretty. There are open spaces for big crowds. Walking around the park on a hot summer day was not too bad.

Old Japanese Fort inspired by European Star Forts. Neat open area to walk around in both around and up on the fortification walls. They have stamps and goshuin pages as well apparently.

We visited on a quieter day in June, well past cherry blossom season. Few people were in there so it was a very peaceful and pleasant time. The grounds are simply planted long ago, mostly in cherries and pines. They are mature and match the feel of the old stone walls. Nice contrast too between their natural growth patterns and the rigorous pentagonal stone works

Great views of Hakodate and the fort from the tower. Lovely gardens with 1200 Cherry Blossom trees around the fort area. Magistrate office also nearby (historic site).

Amazing place. It is a remarkable work they did to reconstruct all of this is based solely of old plans and a couple of photos. Definitely worth the entry fee.

Have you ever been to a place filled with cherry blossoms(Sakura)? If not, Goryōkaku is a good choice. The cherry blossoms there will truly make you open minded. So what are you waiting for? Put this on your bucket list. I’ve been to Goryōkaku the last April. Unluckily, the first time I went there, the cherry blossoms were not blooming yet. After a week(which was May), I went there again and the star shape was totally pink! That really amazed me. If can, I will visit Goryōkaku every season to see the difference between them. I think the Goryōkaku is the most architectural place I’ve ever been. Kindly recommend you to have a visit there.>< Reminders:You can also go up to the Goryōkaku tower to see the entire view of the Goryōkaku Park

History of battle field at Goryokaku was interesting. After go up to the tower to see the history and top view of Goryokaku and have walked. It was so peaceful that felt very big gap that it was a battle field in the past….
