We loved our 4 night stay here. We had a river facing room on the 4th floor, and could see all the activity around Kappabashi bridge, where this small hotel is located. The room photos on the website do not do it justice. Very smartly fitted out, with complimentary beer, soft drinks and cake in the mini bar. Tea and coffee facilities, dressing gowns, slippers, PJs etc. The food in the dining room was fantastic and they catered to my vegetarian diet beautifully. 7 course French influenced dinners with an equally delicious breakfast which was a combination of Japanese and Western food. Lunch is not served in the hotel (my only criticism) and is hard to find unless you go out early and buy something in the 3 or 4 small tourist shops in the area. There are hordes of day trippers but you can easily get away from the crowds by hiking up the valley or up the various trails to the peaks (we just turned around when we’d had enough). Can’t wait to come back!

The food in the restaurant was not good. I order ice cream with bread and syrup. The ice-cream is terribly bad, there is even ice in the ice-cream and the syrup is too sweet to the point that it tastes bitter. Compared to the price and quality of the food, not recommended.

We were lucky to be the last guests before closing for the season. With many options to choose from, this is by far the best! The quality of the food is superb and the presentation tasteful and delicious. The rooms have a view of the river and mountains. ||Pricey but well worth it, especially if you are a foodie! ||Trails are nearby as is the famous bridge.

The hotel is right beside the Kappa Bridge and the Azusa River ... wonderful! It's a great base from which to do some hikes. We had a view of the river right out of our room window. Our room was nice & spacious, simple decor. The washroom seemed a little dingy, mostly due to the colour of the tub. It's a nice touch that they provided complimentary beers and mini cakes in your fridge. The Grand Bathroom was a nice facility and provided for relaxing soaks. The restaurant was very good--ordering a la carte for breakfast was a nice change from the buffets in all our other Japanese hotels. Dinner was very good (even though it was French food in Japan!) as was the service; however, beer & wine prices were quite high.

An excellent hotel with a location to die for. Next to the Kappa Bashi bridge the hotel is at the heart of the action with walks and scenery in all directions. We encountered the monkeys feeding when we were enroute to the two lakes - Taisho -ike and Tashiro-ike. The weather was glorious for our 2 day stay with the peaks just sprinkled with snow - a real ‘wow’ when walking. ||As for the hotel, the rooms are excellent with a small but effective(!) en-suite, and as for the view......stunning. The restaurant is fine dining with a French style cuisine - not cheap but worth the cost if you are a foodie. Recommend without hesitation.

We really enjoyed it! Food was delicious, the onsen is sparkling clean and the staff was friendly, kind and helpful. We were traveling with young kids and they made us all feel comfortable and welcome! We would love to come again!

This is a fantastic hotel , location is perfect situated in the sublime beauty of Kamaikochi. Hiking trails start at the kappa-bashi bridge & follow the River Azusa-Gawa through magnificent forests.||The room had good views & very comfortable. 2 cans of free beer in the fridge , the onsen baths are well worth a visit. The food is fantastic . There is a coffee shop on the ground floor I would recommend the cheesecake its delicious.

The hotel is right next to the famous Kappa bridge at Kamikochi. Our room has river view. The sound of the river accompanied our sleep. The room is spacious. The hotel restaurant offers very nice lunch and dinner. Service in the restaurant is excellent. Front desk and restaurant staff speak good English. ||||Downstairs, there is another cafe, one can get delicious dessert during the day. Would be very happy to return.

Yelp
Gosenjaku hotel is located in beautiful Kamikochi, right next to the Azusa-gawa and the Kappabashi Bridge. It's about a 5-minute walk from the Kamikochi Bus Terminal-- so it's very convenient to get to if you have any luggage with you. Two things to talk about here: the hotel and the hotel restaurant. My room was on the river side of the building, on the 4th floor (top of the building). Originally, I had booked a less-expensive room on the other side of the building, but I think they gave me an upgrade because there was space available! One of the staff told me that my room had just been renovated in the past few months (2017). It was beautiful-- bright, clean, elegant, and featured a lot of beautiful, light-colored wood. There was a nice balcony with an amazing view of the river and the mountains. It was breathtaking! They even had some nice down vests in your room to wear out on the balcony if you were cold. I had dinner that night (included in the price of my room) in the main restaurant/dining room on the 2nd floor, with a beautiful view out onto the river. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the dinner I had was one of the most memorable of my entire life. The food was amazing. The service was warm, welcoming, attentive, and graceful. I've posted some pictures of the multiple course meal I was served-- words just won't do it justice. The staff were really special-- they made this dinner one I will remember for a long time. What can I say? This is a special place.
