You Get What You Pay For
Owner Tom Gossett is ever-present and they have the most wonderful Farmers Market there every weekend. Very high quality plants and products in stock and well laid out. You may consider that his prices are too high until you get burned by a cheaper priced competitor. For example, I made the mistake of having a lower priced nursery in Katonah install ten hemlock trees. The installer did not mix the soil, manure and compost, did not cut the nylon straps after placing them in the hole, leaving them to strangling the expanding trunks, and did not cut away the top third of the burlap. Three died and it took me a year to get this delay-tactic genius to honor his guarantee and plant two replacements. I then spent a day unburying and cutting the year old, now tight nylon straps from around the remaining trees. In great frustration, I finally ordered one from Gossett Bros to replace the third dead tree. Tom, the owner, picked out a real beauty - a glorious eight footer - and showed it to me before taking any money. Tom, the owner, installed it, double mixed the soil, peat, manure. He bent down the top bail wires and cut out the top burlap. Tom's tree was $50 more expensive and it is now thriving - a remarkably nicer tree than all the others. I wish I had bought them all from Gossett Bros in the first place.
