It was my third stay in this hotel – it has quite good location and is not very expensive. As the name suggests, this very Soviet building was constructed to celebrate 40th anniversary of the Great Victory in the 2nd WW, in 1985. Therefore it is not very surprising that practically it is some kind of garrison hotel, with the stately red star neon over the main entrance. Actually it is in some sense the Soviet sanctuary, but quite nice. The stuff, especially ladies in reception, really majestic and serious , seem to be ex-soldier or possibly officer wives. So, if you like to be a little drilled, or, for example, to stay ignored by a minute or two, or if you like women who rarely smile - you'll be in seventh heaven. In fact they finally they appearet to be quite helpful and communicative – but we speak Russian quite good, and I do not know, if they speak some western languages. May be I am just sentimental and probably it explains why I used to stay there... The climax reminds me my early years in communist Poland – there were no unemployment, but everywhere you could meet plenty of people basically at work, but it was not very clear what they have to do. Here you will see many such a stuff ladies in aprons at every floor. The rooms are average, similarly as breakfasts, which were served at a bar called ”Epaulette”. The neighboring surroundings are quiet and very safe (there is plenty of uniformed people of both sexes), and it takes some 10 minutes to walk to the nearest tube station.
