Gothenburg Botanical Garden

Well kept charming botanical garden! Its so lush in greenery. Landscaping is stunning! There are plenty of walking paths as well as running. Its a green lush haven from the city. Can easily take the tram. Very much worth the visit!

Really amazing this place, it's so nice and big. I need to visit it one more time in spring to see all the flowers. But beautiful to take a walk in the park.

Beautiful Garden with loads of different plants and trees. You can walk around and enjoy nature. It’s wheelchair accessible but the garden in total is having some steep parts. The restaurant in the garden has some really delicious food for reasonable prices. The entry is free but you can pay something if you want to help keeping the garden - amazing concept. I will definitely come back here ❤️

It is a nice, diverse garden with different sections. It also goes up quite a bit, so be prepared. The mainroad is easy to walk, at some places it gets quite steep. This could be difficult for older people or people with children. Additionally, there are many side ways but there are steps most of the time, so plan accordingly. We couldn't visit the greenhouses because they are under construction (like 50% of the city at the moment, at least it felt like it)

A lovely place to enjoy nature and take in the colors and scents. Wide variety of plants and flowers. Peaceful, well-maintained. Amazing hiking trails with breathtaking city and nature views. I loved the place!

One of the largest botanical gardens in Europe. Free admission, with optional donations. It feels more like a vast natural park — almost like a national park — right in the middle of Gothenburg. Perfect for picnics, sunbathing, or hiking up to a small mountain that was recently cleared after being overgrown for decades. Walking here feels like stepping into wild nature. Highly recommended for stress relief.

Great place for the weekend - lots of pathways, interesting and unusual plants. There is also a cafe along the way and the gift shop and restrooms. Admission is for free, with possible volunteer contribution. Really worth visiting ! Can’t wait when the greenhouse will be opened.

Like many things in Gothenburg there is construction and/or renovation occurring and the botanical garden is no exception as the glass houses are being replaced and won’t be open until 2030. The map of the garden is a great guide but recommend going to the wild side, Smith Valley and getting to the high point with great views.drop down from here into the rock garden with the waterfall. Definitely worth the visit.

There is such a thing as a free entrance to the local botanical garden?! Never heard of this in the US but definitely happy to come check out the lush greenery of Gothenburg! Such a serene and beautiful place!!

Gothenburg Botanical Gardens has over 16,000 plant species that are cultivated in greenhouses and landscaped gardens. Highlights include a rock garden, a kitchen garden that grows hundreds of vegetables, and an herb garden with an 18th-century summerhouse. Gothenburg Botanical Gardens is open year round and is a perfect place to walk, rest, admire, and reflect. Gayle and I recently visited the Gothenburg Botanical Garden during a shore excursion off our Oceania Cruise ship. As with most of these kind of tours, we really only experienced a small taste of what this wonderful oasis offers. However, our tour guide was very good at accenting some of the highlights. They also have a nice gift shop, of which I picked up nice illustrated 2024 calendrer. Please enjoy some of my pictures.

It was a beautiful mid October day so decided to visit the Gardens. You can spend hours here as they have a huge variety of plants and trees, etc. marked with labels throughout. The trails are nicely mixed in with signage to direct you. The elevated areas are worth the climb and effort. That said, there is one view point that is not to be missed. Close to the end of the walking path the sign is marked as "Viewpoint- 100 M". Make that right turn & you won't be disappointed. There is a great view of Gothenburg, water tower, port of Gothenburg to name a few. Also, I arrived just in time to watch a perfect sunset. The fall colors made for brighter and more vibrant sights. Definitely worth the visit!

This was always a fave spot, especially during summer when most of the city has left and o lu occasional flocks of tourists floated through. During winter, it's a meditative place to take a walk on a crisp day or in winter twilight. Everything that would have given it a 3 for many years has sorted itself out now in 2019, 17 years since my first visits as an immigrant. They have restored many of the original walking paths which means that in general the overgrowth and neglect has been replaced with an almost self conscious care with legions of caretakers everywhere you look, and a generally pruned appearance. it suits botaniska well. Labels, signs, researchers and students, botanist interested, etc all make a constant presence which also suits the gardens. Bathrooms, seating places, trash cans, brochures in multi language and orientation info boards. Often I mourn when a neglected place becomes popular but in this case it has created a cheerful peaceful hopeful and grateful atmosphere. It has an herb garden, a shop, a cafe, a formal garden, plantings by region for example Japan, North America, different regions of Sweden, etc. Just as the Honolulu Foster garden has its corpse plant this has the näsduk or Kleenex tree that draws crowds each year to see and photograph its blooming. I love sketching, picnicking, walking and lounging with a book in sun or shade here. No dogs allowed so I dont have to worry about where I sit. Few children so it is an open space of rustling leaves and occasional snatches of conversation. Just as important as dog parks and playgrounds are, quiet open spaces for people who need them are also needed in the urban environment. I think each of the past 5 years, the plantings are getting more thoughtful and delightful in the perennials even as they generally follow a symmetrical and linear design.

We visited these gardens yesterday and it was a pleasant interlude, but we've seen much lovelier botanical gardens and therefore I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit. It's quite large and also very popular. There's a nice little shop by the entrance and the woman working there was pleasant. The admission cost - 20 SEK - is voluntary.

The botanical garden is very close to Slottsskogen, so after our visit to Slottsskogen, we went to the garden. The admission is a suggested donation of 20 SEK, making for a very inexpensive day. It was mid-April when we went, so unfortunately the rhododendrons and herb garden were not yet in bloom, but there was still plenty to see. If you do visit the garden, be sure not to miss out on the greenhouses!

Honestly, I've seen bette botanical gardens. The park seemed to be pretty big, but it seemed to have a lot of ordinary plants. There was a rock garden, which I didn't get a chance to visit but thought was pretty interesting. I didn't spend too long in here, and I don't think it's too necessary to visit unless you're really close, as it is a bit ways off from downtown. Nice place to walk around, but I don't know whether it's necessary to come all the way out here to visit.

During summertime loads of people come here for a picnic in the grass or to enjoy the beauty of the park. The park is divided in categories for different parts of the world/Sweden or type of vegetation - Japanese Valley, bamboo, rhododenrons, windflowers, pines/conifers, herbs etc. There is no period that is better to visit than another, different flowers every month are blooming. I like spring time best - because you get all the colours in one place at a time when I am looking forward to summer. There is a specific tree that I want to highlight - the "handkerchief tree" (Davidia involucrata var. vilmoriniana) - a tall tree with blossoms looking like white handkerchiefs! It blossoms late May/early June one is growing in the japanese valley. In the park you can wonder for hours, taking short breaks, climbing hills, taking pictures, enjoying the silence. There is a little shop and a café but why not do as many others - bring your own coffee! Entrance is not mandatory, but why not put a 20-note in the "jar"?
