I live next door and I've tried my hardest to support this place... $10 for a bag of lemons is an absolute joke. Organic lemons 5 mins away at Trader Joe's are 5 times cheaper at $1.99 a bag.

A bit pricey, but everything in this neighborhood is. Good options for lunch. I usually come for the soup. Lot of variety and they keep them stocked.

Bitten something crunchy in my chicken caprese and felt weirdest strong taste. When I spit it out I discovered nicely cooked stink bug. Photos are attached.

Gourmet Garbage would be a more appropriate name. This place is overpriced and cares nothing about customers satisfaction. I purchased a bag of tangerines for $7.99 that sells at Trader Joe’s for $3.49 and 3 were rotten. I threw a couple out and went back with one and they wouldn’t give me an exchange. Not even a single orange ! This is not an isolated incident Many of their items are not only double the price but ring up incorrectly at checkout. A bag of carrots which cost $3.99 at Trader Joe’s cost $6.99 and rang up as $7.99. The employees are overworked and their disgruntled attitude spills over on to the customers. I live nearby and have shopped there for many years out of convenience. They know me and still don’t care. Avoid shopping here unless absolutely necessary.

Great store with quality items from fruit to canned goods. Good hours and friendly staff. Very knowledgeable and ready to help make a decision. Health-Ade goes on sale often and is the best Kombucha out there. Tight store so don't come at lunch time. 5pm or later is perfect timing to come shop Need a snack, they got that too

Great health store that's been there since 1993. Delicious, fresh, healthy prepared food and groceries, and free delivery! Just more expensive than a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's so be prepared for that. The staff is friendly just wait for the green light before you insert your debit/credit/EBT card or you'll break the machine. And avoid coming at lunch time because that's when most of the people come.

I am seriously addicted to this Tomato Cheddar soup that they make. Lately, they have not had it and I have been soooo disappointed each time. That's how good I find this soup. Today, I asked one of the employees who was replenishing the soup bar if the Tomato Cheddar would be making an appearance any time soon. He said he thought he might have some downstairs. This kind man, who turned out to be Chef Andre, went out of his way to go and get the soup for me!!! That was definitely a random act of kindness and it absolutely made my day. Yes, it's just soup and it made me happy but moreover it's that this man would go out of his way to do that for a total stranger. That is what I call Customer Service! I will include Chef Andre in my prayers of gratitude. That being said, the other food stuffs that Gourmet Garage offers is good so I would recommend the store for that too.

This is a good place for steak. I highly recommend picking out your own steak (Wagyu) from the reach in refrigerator. Mixed reviews about the service....some people are pleasant & others don't really want to be there. Try the peppercorn sauce with your steak. A bottle of Two Island cab goes well with the steak. The grapes come from Australia and the processing is done in Bali. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area & frequently visit Napa. I was surprised by the flavor of this wine.

I have to downgrade the review because they've switched to 100% self check-out. I wonder how blind people can navigate. There is one person assigned to help those of us who have trouble on the machines... that's just about everyone. S/he is supposed to also operate the cash register if someone requests, but on my last visit, my request was denied. There is still a nice cheese section and some nice specialty items, but nothing worth the hassle of checkout.

Love this place! I work in the area and this place save my wallet / appetite all the time. They have great things, fresh flowers, hot and cold food bars. There's a coffee station with treats... there a sushi station. Salad bar with great options. The people that work there are real! Very real smiles and kindnesses. I love it ... it like going back in time before everyone turned into a filter. The Mac and cheese is bomb ..

They are your typical small neighborhood supermarket. Some of the staff here is always super nice to me but this place is EXPENSIVE. I got a pack of 6 cookies and paid $6/7. I get that Soho rent trickles down to us but God..... Other than that its clean and they have a lot of popular brands as well as some harder to find ones. This is a place you stop in only to get a couple things at a time. Bring your life saving if you're trying to stock up for the week.

Overpriced! Never buy ice cream there! I have purchased melted then refrozen products which I brought attention to the manager and apparently made no difference

I don't know who owns this business but the manager or clerk (maybe the owner) that was working this morning, a very friendly black man, went out of his way to help my family when my 5 year old daughter face planted this morning on the sidewalk out front and I noticed they were open so ran in for help. He brought us ice and paper towels and was so kind and thoughtful. She was bleeding a lot but ultimately ok. I was so appreciative of his kindness and generosity and wanted to let this business know that this man is a gem! And if he is reading this THANK YOU! Sasha is doing just fine (few chipped teeth and a cut up lip and her face is pretty banged up). Wishing you all the best - this business is lucky to have you

Gourmet Garage (SOHO) On July 3rd 2014, I visited Gourmet Garage to pick up a quick late evening snack. Which included a "make your own" salad & cheese cubes (a mix of Montgomery jack, pepper jack, & mild cheddar Cheeses). I devoured majority of the cheese before noticing that a chunk was infested with fungus/mold. Upon discovering this newest food accessory I called Gourmet Garage in disdain. I spoke to a manager who then questioned me asking "what would you like us to do? How would you like this to be resolved?" The ambiguity & nonchalant nature of his demeanor surprised me. I frankly stated that "I don't know what I'd like to be done but I'd preferred you remove this cheese off of the self for future clients interested in such delights" he agreed & offered me a credit! I was under the impression this credit would have been for my entire bill which was a little under $12, yet it wasn't. When I went into the shop to retrieve my reimbursement he only returned the cheese amount! Poor on his behalf since I had severe stomach problems the day after which persisted throughout my entire work day! I also was made aware that this isn't the first complaint received for mold on their cheese but also their pies have had the same issue! I'm trying to understand what kind of food connoisseur conducts business this way! The same said business that promotes "fresh" food! Who wants to eat Montgomery Jack cheese with a side of fungus!? Okay anyone who knows me knows that I would go to a plate filled with fruit than a plate filled with cookies. My friend P got some grapes yesterday and I usually buy red grapes rather than the green ones but I decided to taste his grapes. OMG - they are the best GREEN GRAPES ever and not to mention the most beautiful green. Seriously, they aren't dull in colour, instead they are vibrant and electrifying. I asked P, where he got them from and he said Gourmet Garage. I usually don't like to go to Gourmet Garage unless I was accompany someone else there. They don't usually have a large selection of things that I would like to eat and their selection of sushi and maki are pretty bare. But I decided to face the cold-gusty wind and trek to Gourmet Garage to get these grapes today. When I like something, I go crazy... I usually buy loads of them and of course I was no different to these grapes. I bought 3 bagful and the total of these seedless green grapes from Chile were 24 bucks! Dude, haven't I learned from the 50 dollar bag of fruits that I bought at Food Emporium? While I was walking out, I overheard another girl telling her friend that her apple cost $2 bucks! WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAT! But these grapes are damn good, though not sure about the chick's apple!

Great hot bar, cute space, staff is friendly & helpful. Their produce and sushi station always remain impeccably fresh. Love this place.

I don't understand all of the negative reviews for Gourmet Garage, but maybe that is because I just picked up lunch rather than groceries? The market is not as spacious as say Dean and Deluca, but it might be a bit cheaper. The prepared foods section is very extensive, offering a large variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, microwaveable dishes, and desserts all portioned for one. They also have a deli counter and daily hot specialties. There is also a large selection of breads, chips, fruit, etc. I purchased a salad with tofu (I believe it was BBQ'ed), carrots, and some other veggies. I thought it was delicious, especially the dressing which was an Asian style. (Sorry I went here a few weeks ago, so I do not remember the specifics!)

I work around the corner and this is usually my go-to lunch spot. I like the fact that they have so many options and everything is always very fresh. They have a salad bar with many fresh veggies, a soup bar that has a couple mainstays but for the most part they rotate different flavor options on a daily basis. My one gripe is the fact that they usually take away the hot lunch option so early, usually between 2 and 3 pm. If I don't take my lunch before that time then I miss out. Other than that fact I am very pleased with this place, the staff are all very nice and accommodating.

The name Gourmet "Garage" is a cute misnomer. If anything, this place is a fancy pants smaller version of a Whole Foods with prepared salads, soups, sandwiches, and high-end groceries. Be prepared to overpay for everything. But at least you can feel like you are shopping in a posh boutique grocery store. I didn't bother spending much time here.

Gourmet garage is a 10 minute walk from my job. I know a lot of people come here for lunch. I've gone a few times, but it doesn't appeal to me very much. It is very expensive for what you get. Most recently, I had no clue what to eat and passed by. I decided to come in. It took me a while to decide because the food at the bar didn't look very fresh to me. Finally I thought soup might be my best bet. I was pretty nervous because some of the soup looked like it needed to be turned and refilled. I wasn't sure if it'd be good. Finally I chose one that looked freshest. I liked that I was able to add brown rice. At the end of the day the soup ended up being pretty good. However, I can't say Gourmet Garage will ever be my first choice.

Extra star because this is the best place for sushi in my work hood. And even though it's hella cramped and crowded, I love their fresh produce. Prices are high, but so is quality.

ok it's handy if you live nearby but way overpriced for the quality especially for the produce.. feel like they are taking advantage of the lack of supermarkets in the area and need a reality /price check, just cos people in the neighborhood pay a lot for rent doesn't mean you can fleece them, seriously.. I don't mind the self checkout, however it exists because they quickly laid off their staff without a care.. let's see how long they last.. can't fault the staff they are super nice

This place is not bad. It kind of reminds me of a Dean and Deluca but not as glamorous. My boo and I stopped in to get a bit of garlic and it cost a buck. Normally we can buy 10x that much garlic if I pay 4 bucks at Costco. I can get it even cheaper at an Asian mart. The quality looked good. We also had samples of Ginger Ale from the company that was giving out samples at the Yelp Snow Ball. We love it when a store has demos. This store ain't the Chelsea Market, nor the Essex Street Market. You should only come here if you have to.

This place is alright. I got their Dragon Roll and Creamy Corn Soup. It was pretty pricy but hey it's soho. DRAGON ROLL was yummy - I love how they layered it with so much avocado. (4.25 STARS) [$8.25] CORN SOUP - included old school oyster crackers with the soup - most places don't give that anymore. Soup was thick and creamy just the way I like it. It was filling. What I didn't like was that the corn was very chewy - the kernel still had it's roots so it made hard for me to eat it. (3.5 STARS) [$3.99] SERVICE: line to check out was relatively fast.

+++ - I really wanted to eat everything here - Bacon brussels sprouts are awesome ++ - Baked goods and cookies are delicious + - Colloquial staff is nice - I can't wait to go back for the hot station - - Kind of expensive. $23 for two lunches two lemonades and a cookie - No place to sit :(

Great spot if you're on the go! I was assisted by Ralphy who provided me with the best customer service, he recommended a turkey/avocado sandwich which didn't disappoint at all and was super delicious.

My go-to place for lunch/snacks since it's close by my office. They have these ready-to-go vegan entrees at the front. It's mostly Asian Fusion and if you look at the nutritional info it's pretty darn healthy. So I always go for one of those and a nutritional bar. They have a ton at checkout. But decide quick cuz you're gonna be holding up a line.

I keep giving them second/ third chances, because they are a local business and have a decent offering for lunch, etc. The issue is that the quality control on prepared food is sub-par. I have had undercooked meat (eg prepared turkey meatloaf that is pink and raw inside), I have seen staff touch food with bare hands, and today entailed a baked potato that was labeled as vegetarian, but meanwhile it was loaded with grisly bacon (which was undercooked as well, to boot!) Management needs to step up and tighten all aspects of food preparation oversight & employee compliance here.

I'm here about 3x a week, either for breakfast, lunch or to pick up little things for the office. If I lived in the area I wouldn't be too happy with the lack of supermarkets but this place isn't a terrible option. I consider it to be pricey, but they have the necessities I go for (fruit, dairy, snacks) and hey have really fresh food. GG definitely has pretty nice selection of everything really! Coffee, breads (some delivered fresh from Balthazar), bagels, hot breakfast buffet, soups... there's also a salad bar with other hot & cold food items around lunch, a station for sandwiches and deli meat, and a small sushi section next to it. The back has a few small aisles with different groceries. There's also greens and fruit along the right side straight toward the back. They have different pre-packaged cultural meals (chicken tikka, empanadas, Asian cuisine, etc.) which I tried recently and were delicious! I like their nuts selection also. I think there's a butcher here too and a meat area but I always bypass it. It can get crowded and tight in here around lunch but everything is of great quality! You'll always see employees walking around if you ever need assistance and for the most part everyone's great (I dislike one cashier but I'm sure the feeling is mutual). They offer a delivery service so you can shop and have it sent over to you for about 2 bucks! Not sure of the distance limits but it's nice to have. Gourmet garage has definitely has gourmet prices but it's paired with gourmet selection/quality and convenience so I'm a fan.

This place can't make a wrap to save their life. All I ask is that they fold up the ends of my wrap so my entire sandwich doesn't fall out of the back when I try to eat it. It's not a hard ask, and the thousands of other bodega-type places have no problem doing this. This has happened multiple times, and I'm sick of it. Extra star for great cheese selection.

Gourmet Garage was a life saver for me when I was wandering around the area and felt hot and thirsty and hungry, but didn't have time to sit and eat at one of the many crowded brunch spots nearby. Gourmet Garage came to the rescue with an ice cold bottle of coconut water and some sliced watermelon (outrageously overpriced for the fruit but what can I expect in Manhattan, I guess), which I enjoyed on one of the little benches provided outside the store. Sure, it definitely doesn't seem like a great place to get your week's worth of groceries, but it's a nice place to pick up a special little something for a dinner party or an on-the-go snack. I'm a fan!

Confusion is defined as 1. a lack of understanding, uncertainty; 2. The state of being bewildered....; 3. What a person feels when they walk into Gourmet Garage. I should end the review right there because after being talked in to trying the driest saffron rice ever known to mankind the other day, I doubt I'll be going back for a while. But even with junk falling off the overstuffed shelves, the crowd of dirty, undercover millionaires that stand around the soups, and the sometimes downright unfair line system, this camouflaged celebrity frequented supermarket is one of my go to lunch options. Because I like being able to get a soup for $6, 1 sushi roll and a Toblerone for around $10, or vegetable potstickers and a small serving of the chicken or turkey special for around 5$. And because the people that work there (not the cashiers) are friendly enough to make good suggestions.

I've tried to make this my go-to lunch spot, but no bueno from many perspectives: 1. It's constantly packed. I'm actually shocked sometimes how many people can fit into this labyrinth of a space 2. The salad bar is severely lacking. Ok, mainly I'm annoyed that they never have arugula as a base option. Otherwise, the salad mix-ins are also limited and somewhat grungy looking. 3. It's pricey. I get it, it's a Soho store .... but still. Nearly 3 dollars for an unripe avocado?! 4. The employees are grouchy, which honestly is probably more a factor of #1 than anything else. 5. It's not at all wheelchair or disabled-access friendly. Always something to keep in mind.

I ordered a sandwich and specifically asked for no onions due to an allergy. I returned to my office to find it covered in onions. This is not a game. Allergies must be taken seriously.

This place is expensive and the food is not fresh. I got a prepackaged salad with chicken and sundried tomatoes with some kind of green dressing that tasted like curry. Ugh. Plus the salad greens tasted like it was on its way to rotting. Do not buy the prepackaged salads! Also, the shrimp cocktail is not fresh either. At $10.99 for six shrimp, you expect freshness. The shrimp tastes like it is spoiled. I also tried the seared bass lunch entree. Tasted like someone dumped a cup of salt on the piece of fish. Do not waste your money. What annoys me is i am short on time during lunch and I expect fresh food for the time I spend to go get the lunch. You get more freshness at your local Korean deli for half the price.

I like the products and the prices, but the people at the check out are retarded every time I buy sushi I put chopsticks in the basket and every time the checkout person forgets to put them in my bag and I'm left to eating sushi with my hands. This never happens anywhere else. I think they are hiring the cheapest people and they are not training them at all.

it's not my grocery store of choice, limited options, expensive prices. But when you live in Soho, your choices are limited when it comes to grocery stores. Dean and Deluca on Broadway is nice, but usually so full of tourists it's not really a practical option for the locals. If you can picture a pricier, smaller version of Whole Foods, Gourmet Garage would be it. If you can't imagine a place that's more expensive than 'Whole Paycheck' come here and you'll be grateful that WF is everywhere. Their hot food and soup bar is good but super pricey and when I stop in for a cup of soup and a sandwich or something from their hot bar it's been at least 20 bucks. I don't go too regularly because of the sticker shock but it's one of the few places nearby that I can go and just get a decent soup/sandwich combo.

Sad . Really low quality of veggies and fruits . Crazy prices ((( the only good and convenient is that they have semi - fresh salad bar and choices of fish/chicken lunch plates . Other than that , bad .. I have moved to SOHO recently and the Whole Foods is too far, seems Like I am stuck now with Gourmet garage .

Ugh. I'm so over this place. I used to live on the UES and shopped at Agata and Valentina, where the prices are lower and the quality is much, much better. GG was a rude awakening! Their seafood counter is lacking, their produce is repetitive, overpriced and is often rotten (radishes, turnips and carrots are soft and bendy). Every time I go to the seafood counter no one is there and I have to wait at least 5 minutes to be helped, even though the place is ALWAYS empty. They only have one type of white wine vinegar, and it's terrible - a fake yellow color. Come on peeps - step it up!!!!! GG, get over yourself and at least have a good selection and quality items if you are going to rob people!

After a rough day I came to get a turkey sandwich and I receive the best customer service from a guy named Joseph. He made it perfectly and was very professional. Thanks sir.

Went here for lunch - got sushi and some Stumptown chocolate iced coffee. Both were delicious. Sushi was great quality, not that cheap stuff you get at other grocery stores. Stumptown coffee was great too, as always. Four stars because of lack of seating (they only have outdoors benches).

I like it...because I have to. It's on the block where our live/work is, and therefore, it's easy to run to when you realize you need...well...anything food related. But good luck with finding anything reasonably priced. I just needed enough sustenance for a week, and wound up spending about $100... That was quite a bit for some bread, some sandwich materials, some pasta and sauce, and a few breakfast items. But, it was time and convenience over value at that point... Next time, I'll hit the Whole Foods over on Houston.

Worst customer service ever especially the cashiers here! They are very rude and always look like they hate when there's customers coming! They don't care if you're regular customer they just hate their job there!!! I really wish the place across the street (Sunrise Mart) open earlier than 10:00 am otherwise I will never get foods and drink here cuz Sunrise Staffs are very nice and friendly and the foods there are sooooo much better, fresher and way cheaper!!! I wish there's UNLIKE or BOO button here!!!!

If only it weren't so expensive. It's a nice (though typical) Soho grocery store, which offers the fancy mint waters and the olive bar. A spicy tuna roll sushi will cost you $6.50 and a sandwich / entree-sized salad is about $4.99 - $5.99. Pretty typical for Soho standards. I go here when I'd like a nice little walk down Broome St. and want to feel as though I'm eating remotely healthy (there is fried chicken if you so desire). I'd hate living in Soho if this was my only grocery store option. Beware the crazy rich women who throw walnuts out the door upon deeming them unacceptable for consumption. And there are a lot of crazy rich women in Soho...

Are you kidding, this place is expensive!! But it's New York, and it's the neighborhood.. all of that.. I go here probably a couple times a week for lunch or to grab some groceries. Their breakfast bar/buffet is straight-up middling, not that great. Sandwiches at lunch are pricey but tasty. Soup is good. Sushi isn't bad either for prepackaged. Their little treats and desserts kill me. Overall pretty good!

The bagels are the best in Manhattan, the variety and selection are outstanding, the cheese section is terrific. Yes, it is expensive, because you're shopping in one of the most expensive neighborhoods for real estate in the world. It's not really fair to hold that against them -- they're just trying to be a good neighborhood grocery store. But a weekend morning bagel with lox and cream cheese from Gourmet Garage is one of my family's favorite rituals.

Redeemed an Amazon Local Voucher at this just-as-pricey-as-the-rest Gourmet Garage location, which was bustling @ 8am on a Thursday. Grabbed a last minute Thanksgiving potluck pickup from the meh selection and some 2/$5 GG chocolate (far from a deal), which brought me to a frustrating $19.83 and meant I'd need to exceed the $20 minimum to use said voucher, which was redeemed while the cashiers mumbled to each other about the amount of sugar being purchased before most folks eat breakfast. Decent enough selection, layout, and cleanliness, but I can get those things at a cheaper shop - wouldn't return unless they were the sole carrier of something.

I like it for being convenient, but otherwise it is lacking in many areas. First, it seems like a dirty kind of place --everything looks a little grungy. The produce is expensive and often looks limp and on the verge of being bad. The prepared food section is tired and predictable, and expensive. I paid $12 for 3 small slices of turkey (I was hungry!). Once I bought one of those pre-made roasted chickens, which turned out to be undercooked. The services behind the counter can be slow and aloof. The other night I stood there waiting for almost 3 minutes as the counterperson had her back turned away. I wanted to see how long she'd avoid making contact. I ended up just walking away. Overall, it's my default choice when I just don't feel like hiking over to the Whole Foods on Bowery.

Gourmet Garage. As I work right around the corner, this place has kind of become my every day staple market. It's been two years and I never knew how I felt about this place until I had to choose the rating above. While most of the employees are very nice and attentive, the attention to detail among the prepared foods is lacking. As it is winter, the soup counter is always crowded, and rightfully so as they have quite a nice selection, HOWEVER the selections that they often try to pass off as "Vegetarian soups" mostly contain Chicken Stock. There was even a time where I caught them on an early afternoon right as they were putting them out, when I asked if they had any vege / vegan friendly soups on todays roster, to which the employee replied " YES! Broccoli and Cheddar, and Corn Chowder" So as I waited a few minutes for the soups, and ingredient cards to come out, I was sad to see that both of these contained NOT only animal stock, but bacon as well. As an establishment that is trying to do a Whole Foods/ Trader Joes thang I cannot wrap my head around such an obvious mis-hap in the menu. VEGETABLE STOCK FOR THE WIN YA'LL

One of my go to places to pick up a quick lunch. This store has a little of everything, but are well know for their soup bar. Roughly 10 different types of soup that rotate daily. There is also a good selection of pre-made sandwiches - or if you don't mind paying a dollar more, a made to order sandwich station where they will make pretty much anything you want. They also have a small hot foods bar and a moderate sized salad bar, though both are a little on the pricy side so I've never gotten them. Aside from the prepared foods, they also serve as a boutique neighborhood market with produce, meats, cheeses, beer, and a variety of snacks. The place is a little on the cozy side, though they did just open up another location a 10 minute walk away on Broadway that has a place to sit down and enjoy your lunch.

Okay, i KNOW it can be a little pricey in this place, but i like it!!!! I probably wouldn't buy all my groceries here, but they have some select things you can't find in other places. the real reason I go to gourmet garage is to buy my lunch for work. their salads are great, and not terribly expensive (defintiely cheaper than getting the same thing at a restaurant or cafe) and they have an awesome selection of vegan and macro items. I haven't tried their hot lunches yet, but the line is always long and they look pretty tastey. and they have sushi and hot or cold soup!

6pm on a Saturday, I was in desperate need of mussels that I had promised a friend I would cook for them. I'm in Tribeca and the Whole Foods that usually has everything has no mussels, and neither did my local Queens supermarket. After trying a couple of other nearby markets that didn't sell fresh seafood, I found this place on Yelp and gave them a call. I frantically asked the woman who answered the phone if they had mussels that day. She said she had two bags left, and I begged her to hold one for me while I hightailed it over there. When I arrived the bag was ready and waiting for me and they even packed it on ice. Excellent customer service! And for Manhattan (and Soho no less), the 2lb pound of mussels was really reasonably priced at $8. The place is packed to the gills with food, while I'd like to explore I'd try to come during non-prime time hours. The cashier line is very confusing, but that's really just because the jam so much into the space that they have.

This location moved a couple blocks closer to 6th Ave. Staff is pleasant. It's a bit more spacious and that's a plus but still expensive as ever. Can you guys BELIEVE I saw a juice for $10?! I panicked, paid and got out of there quickly before the stench of over priced seeped into my pores.
