A relatively small museum, but packed with information and rich insights into Irish history, especially the 1916 Easter Rising. Thoughtfully curated and easy to navigate. Conveniently located just steps from the Ha'penny Bridge and Temple Bar, it’s a must-visit for anyone interested in Irish heritage and history.

I came here with my mom and she said it was a very, very informative museum, she struggled to walk up stairs so I'm very happy that there was a lift there There was a video about the revolution in Ireland. That was so fascinating to watch and to be honest I'm quite stunned about how they fought against the British Go Ireland!

Overall, a very educational and informative visit. Learned more about the events of Easter Monday 1916. The musuem strikes a good balance between traditional and interactive. Enjoyed the film. The exhibit on Ireland's flag was informative.

Great! It packed so much information in a relatively small area, but you could spend hours in here just learning. They had a film you could watch which provided lots of information. I learnt a lot here and the location is just perfect, it’s in the GPO as the Easter Rising headquarters where there. So it feels very connected to the history. Also in a very lovely area of Dublin.

Great Museum with lots of history, artifacts, and videos. The museum has lots information about people, politics, culture, the events and timeline. This is a must see for anyone interested in history and Irish independence!

Terrific museum, packed with information and artifacts, loads of information leading up to and including the revolution, big video screen with the events of the 1916 history. To think the museum is right in the hearth of the whole event. Definitely worth a visit .

Gayle, Fern, Don, and I really enjoyed the "Rebel Rising" tour at the GPO (General Post Office). We took this tour in the afternoon, and on the same day were at the Kilmainham Gaol in the morning. Those 2 taken together really gave us a comprehensive looks at event leading up to the 1916 Easter Rising, Irish Independence, the Civil War and lots of context both before and after. Both tours were docent led which really adds depth over anything self-guided. The exhibits themselves were well curated and interactive. There's also a nice gift shop here, and a working post office in the same building and just through a side door. GPO property remains a magnet for political activism, which was evident when we stepped out the door into the street.

In the basement of the main post office, this is a wonderful small museum focused on the history of Dublin and the postal service. There are lots of interactive screens which you can touch and read more info and see pictures. A lot of content if you actually go through everything. Really enjoyed seeing the objects and 'sets' of what some of these places used to look like.

What better way to learn about Ireland's history!? The GPO Museum is an immersive, interactive and engaging experience telling the story of the 1916 Easter Rising and Modern Irish History. We found it to be very interesting and informative! :) It's one of the newer museums in Dublin. And apparently, this museum has won a bunch of awards! That's cool. You learn so much on the tour. It's too much to type, you've just gotta experience it yourself! Worth the time! And not that costly either. A rather cheap attraction for what it is. I recommend this museum. 10/10 The GPO Museum is located within the historic GPO (General Post Office) building on O'Connell Street, Dublin.

If you are a student of Irish history this is a must see. Study up before though, and you'll get much more out of the GPO.

Superb historical stop. Do get the audio- it's only a euro and it makes the visit so much better. You've 19 listening stops, I believe. And do catch the movie- it's a recreation of the 1916 rising- from the command center and the other points of conflict. I found the whole thing quite compelling and I learned a lot. IF you are not interested in the quest for Irish independence and the history of the republic, that this is not for you. If you are interested, I think you will like it. Just to be here, in the nerve center of the 1916 rising, is pretty emotional- but when you couple it with the presentation here, it's very impactful. -1 has most of the exhibits. There's a cafe on 0 as well as a shop- and don't miss the sad artistic tribute to the youngest victims- including a little girl shot in her mother's arms. I think the last to listening stops are on 0. Bathrooms are very nice- handicapped accessible and there's a lift for the handicapped (or tired) as well. I found everyone to be kind and helpful here, and I'm sure it can get old dealing with tourists- but I had a wonderful visit.

Imagine if your local post office was used as the headquarters of an armed uprising that tried to overthrow the government. Located in the basement of the still-functioning Government Post Office, the Witness History exhibition highlight's the GPO's role in the pivotal 1916 Easter Rising that helped pave the way towards Irish independence. I felt like the exhibition was catered slightly to Irish people who already have some understanding of their country's history. There are interactive displays and video booths that present a lot of interesting but disjoint information, which didn't start marking sense until I watched the main video in the back of the museum detailing the actual events of the Rising. So I'd definitely recommend watching the video first. It took an hour to see more or less everything. Admission is €10 for adults and €5 for children, or free with your Dublin Pass.

In most countries a post office is just the building where you buy stamps and send mail. Here in Ireland the General Post Office in Dublin (located on O'Connell Street) was the headquarters for the 1916 Easter Rising. I moved to Dublin (on a temporary 2 year holiday visa) in August 2016. When I got here I saw all these 1916 Easter Rising 100th anniversary banners, and I'll be honest my knowledge of Irish history was lacking. I had no idea what this event was about before I moved here. If you're like me then the GPO Witness History is a great museum to visit to learn about this. To oversimplify (a lot) during Easter week in 1916 a group of men and women took over several major buildings in Dublin to rebel against the British (Ireland was a part of the British Empire at this time). The General Post Office (GPO) was the main headquarters for the Irish leading this Rising. So while on one side of the GPO you can buy stamps and send mail, on the other side you can learn about the history of Ireland. The GPO Witness History has exhibits about what led up to the Rising, what happened during the Rising, and the aftermath of the Rising. While Ireland didn't become an independent Republic until 1922 the Easter Rising was a catalyst for Ireland's independence. While people in Ireland are probably well versed in this event if you're a tourist or new to the country you might not be. This is a great place to learn about the Easter Rising. There are artefacts, some interactive exhibits, and videos to watch. There are some short documentaries, but I really recommend watching the main video (in the theatre) that gives a great overview of this event. The exhibits themselves are well laid out and easy to follow. When you are finished go through the exhibit there's a small cafe/gift shop upstairs. There are also toilet facilities, which were well maintained. The staff at the front desk were helpful in explaining the best way to go through and see everything. If you check on Groupon they'll sometimes had a deal for the GPO Witness History. I was able to get a general adult admission ticket for €3 on Groupon. If not the regular adult admission is €13 in person or €10 if you book online (lower prices for students/seniors/children). If you're visiting Dublin I think this is included in the Dublin pass as well. Give yourself about an hour or more to go through here.

Awesome museum. Definitely worth stopping by when you visit. The GPO is fully functioning, too, so you can mail out a postcard.

Just recently open in March 2016, the exhibition provides the visitors with core information regarding the 1916 Easter Rising. The exhibition takes you through a series of interactive displays with touch screens. The touch screens also offer details about artefacts and uniforms exhibited in glass cabinets. You can watch well-made short documentaries clearly explaining the political context and social backdrop that pertained the Easter Rising but also the aftermath for the Irish movement for independence. You can also watch a short movie on a big screen with actors playing the roles of real characters who led the rebellion from within the GPO letting the visitors uncover how the events unfolded day by day and the strategy used by the Rebellion. The exhibition is located in the GPO basement. There is also a very nice café and souvenir shop on your way out.
