Graduates Hotels Enters Short-Term Home Rental Market With Graduate Homes - AFAR

"A hotel-branded short-term rental program offering two premium homes near the University of Michigan as part of an effort to increase accommodation during peak university events. The Ann Arbor inventory includes a four-bedroom/two-bath house and a five-bedroom/six-bath house; all listings must meet the program’s premium criteria (minimum three bedrooms, full kitchens, living rooms, and laundry areas). Guests have access to hotel-like amenities—a dedicated concierge who can prestock the fridge and plan tailgating, complimentary bike rentals, shuttle service, pool and fitness-center access, and discounts at nearby hotel bars/restaurants—as well as optional in-home experiences through a partner app (for example, yoga or chocolate tastings). Pricing varies by property (roughly $500–$3,000, taxes excluded) with no extra cleaning or administrative fees. The program also manages guest communication, post-stay cleaning, and provides essentials such as glassware and towels, setting it apart from peer-to-peer rental marketplaces." - Bailey Berg

Graduate Hotels and Scholly Partner to Pay Student Loans - AFAR

"A collection of boutique hotels in university towns that highlights each location’s heritage through locally inspired design has pledged to raise $150,000 in partnership with scholarship app Scholly via a “$150K Payoff” campaign. From September 1 through December 31, 2019, participating properties in college towns (including Berkeley, Ann Arbor, Providence, Madison, Seattle and Minneapolis) will host community fundraisers — such as live jazz & blues brunches, rooftop Halloween parties, and Pure Barre classes followed by bagel-and-mimosa brunches — with tickets sold through Eventbrite and open to guests, locals and students; guests can also donate at checkout. Proceeds will be awarded as three $50,000 grants to be applied toward tuition or existing student loan debt; eligible applicants (individuals over 18 with outstanding federal or private loans, current undergraduates or graduates, and high school students registered to attend college) may apply at myscholly.com/graduatehotels through October 31 at 11:59 p.m. PST. At the time of the announcement there were 16 operating properties with several more planned to open soon." - Sarah Buder

Graduate by Hilton Ann Arbor (Ann Arbor, Michigan) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Where there’s a classic American college town, there’s a Graduate hotel. A captive audience and a typically collegiate tolerance for less-than-luxurious living conditions means most university-adjacent hotels are nothing to write home about, but these ones are different. Ann Arbor is home to the University of Michigan, and the Graduate Ann Arbor is barely two blocks’ walk from the campus, in a mid-century tower that gives little indication of what sort of hotel is inside." - Tablet Hotels

The Graduate Ann Arbor is an older historic building with charm. No it's not a 5 star hotel, but it's not just a 4 star either. It is a limited service hotel with valet, luggage service, on site restaurant, gym, and nice public areas. It does not have room service nor a spa or pool. Valet parking and private parking garages are available. This is a must as parking is at a premium in Ann Arbor. Rooms are renovated and the theme of the decor is nice, historic, and a little whimsical featuring old University of Michigan nostalgia. My daughter and I stayed in one of the queen bed suites which had two queen beds and a small extra room with couch and additional TV. The room was clean. Bathroom was on the smaller side, but to be expected given the historic building. Overall satisfactory although some wear and tare was observed on the wall in the bonus sitting room. Front desk, valet, and restaurant staff was pleasant and engaging going a little above the mark for service. Front desk was accommodating of some requests and I genuinely got the impression they cared that my stay was worry free and enjoyable. It was an enjoyable stay and I would stay there again. Just keep in mind the rooms are a little smaller, parking is at a premium, and getting a slightly larger room such as the queen suite may be necessary if you need more space to unwind.

The building itself and everything that’s in. It is amazing. I think in our floor those and it’s like to Pia from late 1800s.. but the best thing is the staff. You know we had to drive almost 4 hours to get there and when my wife got in the car, it was amazing to see ballet, make her feel comfortable and less than a second. The front desk was awesome. I gotta say Ben is absolutely amazing. I’m definitely a unique person, and he was able to relate to me instantly, and I noticed that he could relate to everybody instantly incredible human.

Very nice weekend visit staying at this ideally located hotel. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was bustling - students study in the lobby regularly. The decor is fun. Our bathroom could’ve been a bit nicer - it was worn. But overall a wonderful stay.

We were here for two nights. The Graduate is a Hilton property which has one major asset that's key to its relevance---it's the only major hotel located adjacent to the Michigan campus. It's just a 5 minute walk to the Quad and State Street shopping. It's a 10-15 minute walk to downtown Ann Arbor. There are many good restaurants in the area. Most of the guests here seem to be there for U of M business/activities, and are on the young side. The lobby area seems always to be frenetic with students, people on their laptops, etc.---not a relaxing environment. But the location is so important that negative factors noted below are not such a big deal. Location is what you're paying for.||The hotel shows its age, but is in generally good condition. Our King Room had dark gray (rather depressing) walls. Why this color?? The bathroom was quite small, but did have a nice shower. The TV was small compared to the large ones most chains now have. Overall decor in the room was nothing special. There is a restaurant here, but the breakfast and dinner menu is pretty limited. However, there is a grab 'n go area that does have a very good selection (and the food here was good). Also, we did have breakfast in the restaurant one day---we were the only ones there. And it was actually very good. The bar area is pretty small. Valet parking ($40/day) was fine.||Overall, it was a decent stay. We wanted to do some walking around the campus, and you just can't beat the location. Surprisingly for such a busy hotel, the staff here were very friendly and helpful. Everybody we interacted with had a positive attitude.

Google
All in all, it is a comfortable enough place in the location is fantastic. Parking is a nightmare unless you use valet at $40 a night. The rooms don’t have much for amenities and are very old school with a school graduate theme which is cool, but doesn’t really do much for me. No easy food options no breakfast no snack food available so it’s a little tough compared to a nice suburban hotel.

Google
Very nice hotel with excellent staff and service. We were there for 3 days for a wedding. The hotel was very accommodating of our dog Mildred who was allowed to hang out in the bar. The bar food was good as was breakfast. The proximity to downtown and campus is convenient and you have close access to a lot of dining, bar and shopping options.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The property was clean and decorated in a college theme. There were plenty of outlets and usb ports for charging. Valet parking was quick. There were lots of restaurants within walking distance

I wish I could focus on something besides how poorly we have been treated by the management of this property, but I can’t. We stayed at the hotel for a few nights and had to leave because of a family matter. I was told by the hotel, quite graciously, that I would be refunded for the night we didn’t use. After I realized the night wasn’t refunded, I began a four month effort to receive the refund I was promised. I called Hilton, I was told multiple times it would be taken care of, and finally four months later was told by the hotel that I would not be receiving a refund—for no particular reason. A dozen phone calls, countless emails, and then abruptly told—-after being assured by both the Ann Arbor property and the Hilton that I would receive a refund—that they had decided capriciously that they were keeping my money. I really can’t share the level of frustration; it’s fine if there’s a policy, but to be told numerous times by various individuals that it would be taken care of, only to be told the opposite months later, is ridiculous. A massive waste of time and energy. Myopic customer service. There are plenty of other options in Ann Arbor. I suggest you choose one of them.

Yelp
Understaffed during move in. For these prices not good. Valet takes too long. The room has peeling wall paper. Some broken hardware on a door. Is this what Hilton ownership looks like?

Yelp
Don't let the.m cute TikTok videos fool you, this place is a dump. The lobby is so full of college students studying that you cannot sit to talk with anyone. The first room had something suspect on the bed, so we switched rooms. The decorations are fun, but they also might like it to look like it has the original dust from the 50s. The second room has peeling paint and a flaky ceiling. The windows must be trying to go for the authentic smoky look and light not have been cleaned in this decade. The restaurant downstairs does not up for supper until 7pm, and the coffee bar downstairs does not up until 7am. A ridiculous place and will not be staying here again. It took all day to get the room temp to not feel like a sauna, even with the windows open. Not even sure the a/c was actually on. We were told there is instant coffee in the room, there wasn't and needed it, because the room popped and cracked and had some clanging noise all night. As well as hearing other hotel guests in the hall and in their non-adjacent rooms.

Yelp
If you have ever wondered what It feels like to talk to a brick wall, then this would be the place. If I could rate this negative five stars I would. First off they not only tried to charge me 40 extra dollars for valet parking, but the receptionist was absolutely terrible. It looked like it was her first day on the job, and she came straight from a mcdonalds where she sat in the back all day munching on fries. It not only took her an eternity to check us in, but she gave away our room that was over 3,000 dollars. When my family of seven told her that we were traveling from almost 5,000 miles away and quite obviously had no where else to stay, she told us that we could have a different room, but pay the same amount of money. We were supposed to stay in a suite which is what we payed for, but instead they wanted to put us in a normal room for the same amount of money which is not only an injustice and a scam, but also illegal. They gave away our room and said we still had to pay the money for a worse one. Absolutely ridiculous establishment. The owner should be ashamed of himself. We should get what we payed for. We wasted over 3,000 dollars, eight hours of driving, and two hours checking in. Do not stay at this monstrosity of a scam they want to call a "hotel".

Yelp
This is the 4th time I have stayed at a Graduate and it will be the last. Dumpy, way over priced hotels. Supposed to be kitchy and cool, but frankly they are just dated motel 6's near a college. Don't fall for it.

Sarah Grace T.

Yelp
The rooms are so small and the valet takes forever, I texted them 15 minutes ago then when I came down they said it would be 10 more minutes because they parked 10 minutes away. And we were in a very big rush. They also went nice about if. I would give it a zero but I can't so I'm giving it a 1

Yelp
I used to stay here regularly when it was an independent hotel. within the last month was taken over as a Hilton property unfortunately, they have some work to do to bring it up to their usual standards especially in the victors bar and restaurant. My wife and I had come off of a 10 Hour Dr. from the upper peninsula and we're looking forward to a bit of, relaxing the hotel. The bar was entirely out of all its draft beer. The tables in the bar area were completely sticky and scuffed. We moved to the dining room for our dinner. The weight staff seen unprepared for dinner service bringing out our appetizers without any Plates while we waited for while our appetizers cooled. My wife tried the saltshaker of the table, and then one after the next the salt was all hard in the shakers. Finally had to ask them to bring salt from the kitchen. Bathroom shower stall slippery and could use a good cleaning. Even the pencil in the room doesn't write (try a quality Ticonderoga no 2). On the positive side, the rooms are nicely appointed, and they've maintained some of their character with the original decor. Also the location is well placed.
