Hilton Adds Graduate Hotels to Its Portfolio - AFAR

"Graduate Hotels, which opened its first two locations in Athens, Georgia, and Tempe, Arizona, in 2014, is known for subtly weaving the history, culture, and traditions of the local college or university into the design details of each hotel. The newest Graduate Hotel, Graduate Princeton, opens in spring 2024. Graduate Nashville features a lobby with custom black-and-gold star-printed rugs, a nod to Vanderbilt University’s school colors, and 160 watercolor paintings of leaves representing campus tree types. Graduate Chapel Hill’s reception desk resembles a scoreboard, recalling Michael Jordan's game-winning shot in the 1982 NCAA basketball championship." - Bailey Berg

Graduate by Hilton Tempe (Tempe, Arizona) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"You wouldn’t know it from looking at our hotel listings, but Tempe is part of the Phoenix metro area. East of Phoenix proper, south of Scottsdale, it’s the home of Arizona State University, which is both a reputable school and one of the easy-living capitals of the American higher education system. Thus it’s particularly fertile ground for a Graduate hotel, and indeed the Graduate Tempe is both a serious hotel and an enormous amount of fun." - Tablet Hotels

I came into for a competitive cheer competition and this is the hotel that was recommend my family to stay at. The location of the restaurant ideal for those who want a variety of food options but the hotel is located across the street from ASU. The building doesn’t look fancy on the outside and the decor could be better. The rooms are decent. But have some type of plumbing issue. Literally in the middle of a shower the pipes started screaming. This happen two days in a row. On my last night at the hotel the handle for the shower broke off and had to be moved to a new room. The restaurant offers happy hour and has great daily specials but the food is mediocre and not worth the money. In addition to the limited array of items to choose. Parking is easy but there is a daily parking fee. Probably will not stay at this property again. Although it’s a Hilton, I don’t feel as if I got the usual Hilton experience. The pool Is fairly small.

Love this hotel! Often stay here for work! My only complaint (the reason rooms have 4/5 stars) is the new lighting in the bathroom is a godawful orange, it gave me a headache so I showered with the lights off. I feel most people want a normally lit bathroom. The orange gives me horror film vibes. Please change the bulbs back to normal! Love your staff & hotel and amenities otherwise!!!

This was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had. It’s located right next to a university, so everything around it is overpriced—including the hotel itself. Even after paying a steep rate, you’re still expected to pay for parking, which is ridiculous. For how much it costs, you’d think the hotel would be at least halfway decent, but it’s the opposite. The decor made it feel like an elderly landlord with no taste went wild—full of random pieces that looked like they belonged in a hoarder’s collection, just scattered around without purpose. It wasn’t cluttered, but the items they chose gave off that same energy. It also looked like a cheap landlord’s paint job trick—painted over vents, the fire extinguisher cabinet, wall fixtures, everything. No attention to detail, just a lazy attempt to make it “look new.” The place smelled musty and felt hot and stuffy. The food was terrible. The only decent part of the stay was the pool. Our room was uncomfortable, the bathroom was dirty when we arrived, and there was no laundry hamper. They only provided one roll of toilet paper, and getting a replacement was a hassle. Worst of all, the shower faucet fell off with a light touch—it looked like it had already been broken and was just slapped back into place. I highly recommend staying somewhere else. This place was a major letdown.

Stayed for five nights, never had my room cleaned. Every night had to go to front desk to get clean towels. Rooms are very small, about the size of the king-size bed. Hotel is an old Ramada, carpets in room were old and bunched up in several places, definitely a tripping hazard. I requested my room to be cleaned everyday. The front desk was apologetic and said they would get it taken care of it...BUT there is something broken in their process. Good Luck if you have to stay there.

I am rating this a 1 overall. The views are amazing. The rooms are very subpar. Trust the other reviewers that state the hotel needs a remodel. It does. And this is after changing ownership at least twice now. This hotel used to be a Holiday Inn. Then, a Graduate Hotel. Now Hilton has bought it? Our experiences with Hilton over the past 6 years have proven to us that they care about quantity over quality and the safety, comfort and wellbeing of their guests. When we stayed at The Graduate in Tempe, we were charged for parking. Few other hotels do this in the east and west valley of Phoenix. Downtown Phoenix hotels do. Usually not Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Scottsdale in our experience. The decor in this hotel is trying to be trendy and "boutique ". It is not. The upgrades when we stayed included putting in cheap laminate flooring instead of carpet, cheap furniture, maybe some newer mattresses and sheets, new paint jobs and seemingly little else. The staff was friendly when we stayed. I will give them that.

My overall check in and first experience of this hotel was great! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful especially for having arrived very late in the night. The hotel and room somewhat met the high standard of what I thought I was paying for being clean and tidy but smaller than what I expected from looking at pictures on the website. I booked a king bed room for two adults but yet there was only enough towels for one person. I stay in hotels frequently for work and am signed up as a Hilton member but yet when we arrived, checked in, & parked we still were expected to scan the QR code to pay for parking ($4.50 for an hour or $15 for a day). I graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson (BearDown) within the last few years which they have a graduate hotel there as well. I will say I am more impressed with the graduate hotel in Tucson than I am with the graduate hotel here in Tempe. I believe, being a Hilton member, I should not have to pay for parking nor go searching for extra towels when I specifically booked the room for two adults. The graduate hotel here in Tempe seems to be an older facility that needs renovations and TLC (touch, love, care); for example the room I stayed in didn’t have the thermostat to control the temp of the room on the wall like normal hotel rooms. We have to physically go over to the mini split unit to adjust the temp of the room. I am just overall disappointed, taking all aspects into consideration, with the graduate here in Tempe especially being a Hilton hotel. I’ve stayed at the graduate in Tucson and had an outstanding experience. For the price point, this hotel isn’t worth it.

The rooms are adorable and the whole hotel has a vibe of its own! Loved my stay here, for sure splurge for the room with a patio it’s so cute. The view was excellent and the weather was perfect for May in Arizona (cooler than normal). Rebecca at the front desk was AMAZING! She was super friendly and I had a mishap with my room key, Rebecca helped me right away and assisted me. She asked if I needed anything else and I couldn’t have asked for a kinder interaction. I was not having a great day after work and her genuinely friendly attitude put me in a better mood. Great customer service and handled my key issue immediately. 10/10 stay!

I've worked in hospitality since I was 17 and I am so happy with the front desk team that helped my stay be extra nice, their names were Edsel, Donovan, and last but not least Rebecca. There was one though who was my initial contact when I was checking in but she was such a sour puss, looked as though she was upset our whole interaction. When I came back to check in later in the evening Edsel was a complete 180 from the guest service girl before, he was so knowledgeable and accommodating. The next morning Donovan aided me with my request and he was such a pleasure as well, even though it was super early he was nothing but smiles. After I checked out, I thought I forgot my green Hydro Flask in the room and that's when I met Rebecca, she was absolutely my favorite, her smile and laughter was contagious and she was super knowledgeable about hotel policies and procedures, and her knowledge of their PMS (property management system) was far more than the sour puss who said what I had asked for was not capable. I am a HH Gold and I had chosen the F&B credit instead of HH points for the stay, but when I hadn't used the credits I wanted to swap it out for the points and Rebecca did it in a flash, where the other girl was incapable. Definitely recommend staying, its so close to Mill Ave and ASU. Literally right across the street, so convenient!!!
