"A hotel that describes its location in a university town as “across the street from everything you remember” is catering to a certain crowd, but you don’t need to be a student or alumnus to appreciate the Graduate’s proximity to campus, the pedestrian Downtown Mall, and views of the Southwest mountains. Amenities include free Wi-Fi and cruising bicycles, keycards with a sense of whimsy (featuring UVA alumni like Tina Fey and former local resident Jessica Lange in the old days), and a game and study room. Guest rooms are modern while still evoking nostalgia, with graphic plaid carpets and mounted wahoo fish (an unofficial nickname for UVA’s sports teams) above the beds. The sweet and shaggy Sheepdog Cafe serves coffee, cocktails, and comfort snacks like donuts and biscuits, while the rooftop restaurant Heirloom looks to local ingredients for dishes like cheddar and cider fondue. There are Graduate hotels in eight other university towns across the country (and growing), which may inspire you to take your own college tour."

Didn't stay in room, but went for a wedding reception in the Piedmont room. Very nice cocktail hour and coffee bar set up by the small bar area. Food was good. Service ok. We spent most of the reception with dirty plates on the table. Never cleared the room. Seemed like they were short staffed and only 3 men running the hotel! My plus one and I were tempted to find a bus pan and knock it out. Too many years in the service industry! But overall, it was good. Fantastic views, great location, and beautiful decor!

I had the pleasure of staying at the Graduate for business. The hotel is a short distance from the CHO airport and in the heart of UVA and UVA Medical. The hotel is clean, I felt safe and was able to work and rest well. Max and Leann handled an extremely out of the ordinary issue with kindness and due to their above and beyond efforts the matter was resolved with the best possible outcome. I would definitely recommend and hope to stay again for vacation. My only reason for 4 stars on the room is because I prefer to see matress covers under bedsheets but the bed was clean so it would not prevent me from staying here again.

Cute hotel near UVA hospital. Rooms are adorable, very roomy. Good internet. The rooftop bar has good drinks and beautiful views. Love the vibe. Easy parking and very convenient location. Check in and check out is easy and everyone was super nice and friendly.

Great location, super weird decor vibe, a little worn down. I stayed here for three nights for a work visit to UVA. The location was perfect since it’s right next to campus and walking distance to a ton of food options. The employees were kind and welcoming and the lobby was cute. My room, however, was a little strange. There was no closet, just a rolling rack and when I arrived it had one hanger on it so I had to call down for more. Decor-wise: If masculine, a little dirty, intense horse and fish stuff is your vibe then this is the place for you. Not so much for me. The huge painting beside one of the beds showed a horse race with one horse and jockey fallen and about to be trampled??? There were big fish over each bed and more (smaller) animal pictures on the wall. The window sheer was dirty and the bathroom mirror was damaged. Nothing horrific, just not five star level. Bed was comfortable and bedding appeared clean. The included toiletries were relatively masculine scents that did not mix well (peppermint, cilantro and lime???). Overall, not my taste, but perfectly fine.

Google
A venue with character, great location to access UVA, and convenient parking... but on the lower scale of a 4-star property, especially given the price. The reception and common areas are cozy and welcoming, University themed. Nice rooftop bar. The rooms are a little bit more ordinary, and stingy with the toiletries (no shower cap, cue tips,...), towels (one of each per person), water bottles (none), and coffee, instant only. WiFi is very slow. There is not an option to have a proper breakfast, but there are plenty of places nearby. Service is variable - some very helpful and friendly, some a little less. The gym is in a small room: basic treadmill and elliptical, surprise of a peloton bike, bench, mat, weights, and medicine ball - even if there is at the best space for one person to do some constrained weight training.

Popped in for a quick college tour of UVA. It’s a fantastic location - on one end of The Corner - so you can get a feel of campus life. Friendly service throughout the hotel. There’s a game room on the second floor with shuffleboard and a ping pong table. A small coffee shop exists in the lobby but there’s plenty to eat once you exit the hotel. Valet parking is available for a reasonable $25 and it’s easy to text them for your car. Rooms are clean but have definitely seen better days. Bathrooms are bare bones with just a bar of soap. Our shower had run out of pump soap and shampoo so clearly nobody is really checking. There’s no microwave in the room or lobby which is annoying versus other hotels in the same category.

A great location, but has seen better days, and definitely some service issues. When we checked in, we were given keys to a room that had not been made up, and had to haul our luggage back downstairs. The guy at the desk was very nice and very apologetic, but that was a total unacceptable mistake. Also, the car valet was understaffed and we could not get anyone to pick up the phone when we called zero the desk never answered despite multiple tries at different times during our stay the room was a bit shabby, and there was a weird little blood stain on the corner of the comforter! AC was very loud and coffee is not free in the morning. Don’t recommend!

We interacted with Mr. Eric Glover for parking. He was polite, helpful, and friendly. He was a lot of fun to talk to! I live in Charlottesville, but a friend was visiting and stayed at the Graduate. Because of Eric, I will definitely recommend friends and family members to choose the Graduate for their lodging needs!

Yelp
I've stayed here and the rooms are old and outdated. My kids stayed in the room next door and we could her them and other neighbors talking through the bathroom vents and floor drains. It was OK. The ROOFTOP BAR is why you go here. It's nothing special, but the view is nice and the pretzels with beer cheese and mustard provide a nice place to relax at happy hour.

Yelp
Staying here at the moment, and this is what I will say: Staff here are very friendly! From valet, desk concierge, even housekeeping. Very warm and willing to answer any questions. The hotel is old and unique in its decor and fixtures, giving it a historic feel. From the lobby to the individual rooms, the amenities are not current. Now the reason for 3 stars: I noticed the shower in my room has visible black molding along the edge of the shower door. If house keeping are cleaning these bathrooms, that would easily be in their line of view, so it doesn't make sense. And the fitness center is VERY small. They should call it a fitness room not a fitness center. Comfortable stay, nothing mind blowing. Great for a short stay.

Yelp
The reviews of this place are bimodal. Some reviewers complain about shabby interiors, gross features in plain sight, insane charges and things that didn't work. Others are full of praise. I found this Graduate to be clean and comfortable. The personnel that I encountered were all super-friendly. I'd come back any time. On the other hand, some details were a bit off. The coffee bar downstairs is genuinely bad -- I'll review Poindexter Coffee separately. When I woke up the first morning, I found none of the complimentary waters that were supposed to be in my room refrigerator; instead, there was a full gallon of milk(!). Actually, this was not a big deal: after I mentioned this problem to the front desk, I was handed a bunch of cans of water to take up to my room. Curiously, no one took the milk away. There was a bathmat in my room on my first morning but none on the second. A minor annoyance was the QR code to tip the valet parkers. I had my car parked for two nights and figured that I'd leave a small tip when I checked out. There's a minimum tip if you tip online: $5. That's not the number I had a mind and ended up slipping some paper money to the guy who brought my car up just before I left.

Yelp
The Graduate is a very nice place and it's in walking distance to the UVA campus and to downtown and the restaurants in between. It's nice and quiet and very clean. There isn't really much on offer for breakfast, but there are places within walking distance.

Yelp
Beware of this establishment; false advertising on their website makes it look cool and hip but it's like one of those paintings that looks great from far away and then complete trash close up. We had a family emergency and I panic booked this hotel in minutes while at the UVA hospital without looking too deeply into reviews and it made a terrible night even worse. When we arrived it took several minutes for the front desk worker to acknowledge us and she did not make eye contact a single time during the process or hardly spoke except to take my ID. She did not state the room number or floor or anything, just handed us the keys. Whatever, poor customer service, but not anything to write home about. Also note that you will pay at least $20 for parking each night, which is a bit outrageous for this area. In our room, I first noted that the shower was pretty dirty and had tons of loose hairs from the last occupant. I opted to wipe this down myself and not tell my partner because of the situation we were in. He gets in bed and I flip the comforter over and there are large stains in the middle of the sheets. I go down to the front desk and request new sheets (nothing grosses me out more than staying somewhere on visibly used and stained sheets). She states it will take 10-15minutes for the manager to come up. Around 25 we call down as it's now almost midnight and the front desk worker states she is coming up now. She arrives around 30+ minutes and helps to strip the bed. As we are making the bed with her I notice that the new sheets are also stained. We have had a very emotional night and it's so late I am just like whatever. She also gives us a threadbare blanket with a large hole in it. You know how in some hotels you don't want to take your socks off? This is a wear your socks, full pants and long sleeve shirts establishment. Wrapped up like a burrito in the new comforter with no cover and barely got any sleep trying not to make skin contact with the sheets. Pillow cases also had stains on them. Unable to access an outlet from one side of the bed. In the morning, we noted that the shower walls and shampoo bottles were also dirty. Our faucet handle was missing the top and the faucet was not even screwed in properly. Felt dirtier after taking the shower than prior. That morning, I received a text asking for a rating out of 10 and gave a low score. They offered to give me a call and I agreed. The man I spoke with was not apologetic and seemed unfazed/apathetic about our experience and was like "Oh the rating is just because of the cleanliness? We will try to do better next time. " Will there be a next time? Absolutely not. Did he seem surprised about the issues? Nope. Additionally, in the panic booking, Expedia changed the dates of the reservation from the dates I searched to a date several months in advance. I booked the hotel (this is my fault) and realized my mistake and just booked the correct night as well. I asked the desk if there was any way we could cancel this due to the situation and they stated it was on Expedia and made out that Expedia were the bad guys. Expedia said it was on the hotel to decide on the cancellation and had me message the hotel again. I sent them a long message explaining the situation to see if we could cancel or move the booking or anything and just received back: Refund Declined. This part of the situation was my fault but I really did not like that they were dishonest to my face about being able to refund the mistakenly booked night. If anyone wants a free night here, let me know since we can't cancel but we will definitely not be back and I suggest that you avoid it as well.

Yelp
Most of the staff were friendly (special shout out to the valet) & the location is great. But, this hotel is janky af. There's mold behind the glass of one of our room's picture frames. The toilet was constantly running. The radiator is noisy. The showers are dingy and have chips and scuffs here and there (and only a shower head, no handheld option). The soap had some gross orange stuff that came out with the first few pumps. Also, the game room and the stairs are closed. And, not a single heater was on at the rooftop bar, although outside appeared to be open. Took 1.5 hours to get water, and we got a lecture from the executive housekeeper about hotel policy (only 2 bottles allowed per room) when my daughter asked for 4 (he brought 2, but we did book 2 rooms AND had asked the front desk person for 4 - which doesn't violate their *precious* policy and they agreed to send. And when I went to check out and get my folio, apparently their system had me as a "no-show", yet my credit card was still on file and shows the hold for incidentals for the 2 rooms and 2 nights. I left my number with the manager so we can discuss this policy, along with the rough rooms, executive housekeeper's condescending scripting, and overall poor value/experience). Sidenote: those pumps are such a cheap and grossly unhygienic way to offer such products. Any guest (or staff) can refill them with whatever. Disgusting. They are renovating, so hopefully the whole place gets a great facelift. As it stands today, to say that this place is dated would be an understatement.

Yelp
The moment you walk in, the vibe was old, out-dated and worn down. The pictures online did not match what you see in person. Great location, everything is in walking distance, down town area not too far but nothing would make me come back. Bed sheets were all covered in stains...I think it was dried blood. . I arrived mid afternoon and dropped off luggage and headed out, by the time I saw the stains I already slept in it, next morning I saw one sheet stained then looking at the other covers, there is stains on three different covers. So I took a shower. Made me sick once I tried to shower, I stopped midway, the drainage was so slow whatever was inside started to float to the surface; pieces of hair and this nasty black grime. Also turning on the water at a comfortable temp made this loud vibrating noise, to stop the sound you would have to shower in too hot of water or lukewarm/cold water. Upon more investigation, too many things were falling apart, broken and/or unkempt, I just wanted to get out of the place.

Yelp
I attended the drag brunch at the Graduate Hotel and was very disappointed by the false advertisement and poorly planning that went into the event. From the start, nothing went very smoothly considering there was only one person to process credit cards to pay for the brunch food and drinks. The advertisement was bottomless food and mimosas and this was certainly not the case. We paid the extra $18 for bottomless mimosas and were told we should go to the bar before the show but that drinks would be brought to us during the show. The bar was extremely overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the demand, and ran out of bottles of champagne before the show even started. So, we were instead poured mimosas from the small bottles that usually go in a minibar with warm sparkling wine. The manager would not allow his staff to pour more than an ounce of sparkling for our mimosas, unless someone didn't have the bottomless wristband and was paying in which case they were given a normal glass. We requested for our mimosas to be made the same way as those, or at least have less orange juice because the amount of sugar was causing head aches. The manager on staff (Sheldon) told the staff that if people complained to just cut them off. The attached picture were the full pours we were being provided (before taking a single sip) and we had to leave the show in order to get a drink instead of having them being brought out as promised. We heard bar staff asking if they should come around with a pitcher as promised and the manager told them they were not allowed to, despite being told that would be the case when we first entered. As you can see, this is CLEARLY not a mimosa that would ever be served to paying clients during a regular brunch service, and I feel very disappointed that the staff found this suitable to serve patrons for this event. We were told on multiple occasions they were running out of sparkling wine so this was all they were allowed to serve us. I left the event paying $55 for brunch and was given probably the equivalent of two mimosas that would be served during regular service. The food did not include and of the sides we should have had available (ie butter) and staff gave us an attitude asking for even the smallest things.  The advertising for this event was incredibly misleading and I am very disappointed that the Graduate took people's money for this event and then showed such poor customer service. The team was clearly unprepared and this was not the service that was provided. I am giving two stars because the staff was previously very nice when we stayed for one night after our wedding, but going forward I will not recommend.

Yelp
Zero stars y'all. The fire alarm went off ALL night. We finally left in the middle of it for somewhere else. Others did the same. The manager was no where to be found and the front desk receptionist was so amazing to deal with so many angry customers alone. Management failed to show up for their employees and customers. They also failed to call us back earlier in the day. We're hoping for a full refund on the hotel and the expensive parking. I will update on that once we (hopefully) get our refund. Obviously, do NOT recommend unless you want to be woken up by fire alarms in the middle of the night and have to leave at 2 am. Update: They issued us a full refund but could not refund parking because it is owned by a different company. So I'm changing the review to two stars because they made the refund process easy and fast.

Yelp
This was a good stay. I enjoyed the second floor game room which had games like connect four, scrabble, table-version shuffleboard. The rooftop bar was also nice. The views aren't super special - this is Charlottesville after all so you're not seeing skyscrapers, but it was nice and nostalgic. In the day time it must be nice to see the mountains in the background! Great service and easy check-in, check-out. The room had good amenities; there is a fridge, instant coffee, a lot of different light (overhead fixtures and bedside lamps). TV is easy to use, and from our window we got a nice view of the area around the Corner. Great location if you need to be accessible to the campus, because it's walking distance. A short drive to the mall/downtown C-ville. I recommend choosing this accomodation for a pleasant stay in Charlottesville, especially as an alumni or someone who is here for a campus event!

Yelp
Grungy is a word that comes to mind. Expected it to be cleaner. The fire alarm in the middle of the night also wasn't fun... seems like from reviews here it happens frequently.

Yelp
Ugh I'd be lying if I said it was a great experience but overall it was fine if you need a place to sleep and don't plant to be in the room much. Carpet and floors are gross and old and sticky, the AC was blasting and couldn't be turned off so maintenance had to come but they literally just shut it off and no one told us how to fix. So I asked the manager and he basically said some of the units just don't work.... They offered to come program the temperature but that didn't really help our situation so we just put up with no AC (luckily a cool weekend) the bar upstairs is just ok, over priced and don't expect any table service, we sat at table for ten minutes before having to get up and ask for menus/ place our order at the bar and then go back up to get the drinks. Wouldn't be an issue if the bartender had said anything but she just ignored us, and they weren't busy which felt extra rude. Matcha downstairs in the coffee shop is very bitter (either low quality or not prepared well) and it stinks to not have free hotel coffee available. They could use a bit of a refresher and probably wouldn't recommend anyone stay unless as I mentioned, you don't plan to be here much in which case the beds were decent. Also our "view" was this awful machine and concrete

Yelp
What a rip-off! I hope all parents of future UVA graduates read and heed the warnings in this review. We called to book The Graduate Charlottesville one year ahead of our daughter's graduation (we were cautioned that hotels sell out immediately so best to book a year in advance. I feel like an absolute idiot for doing so. When we called to book for May 2024 back in 2023 we were told by the reservation specialist that graduation weekend would likely sell out in under 15 minutes. Rooms were over $1,000/night (no, that's not a typo) AND required a minimum three night stay, non-cancellable and non-refundable). Agent kept referring to is as the "Graduation Package". So I paid nearly $3,400 up-front (taxes & fees). What a fool I was. Two months ago I went online looking for a second room for my inlaws (grandparents of the grad) and saw that the Graduate had rooms for $440 on our same dates. I called the hotel and referenced their "low rate guaranty" listed prominently on their website. I was told that rate does not apply to pre-paid "packages" (important phrase for later - spoiler alert, there was no "package"). I escalated the issue to the manager of the hotel seeking some relief on our rate. No chance. What he did over was really kind of him - he could offer us a second room at the $440 rate I saw online. I seriously thought he was pranking me but alas he wasn't. We were out of luck completely. When we checked in Friday night we got into our room #609 which was like a portal to a hotel room in the 1980s. Not in terms of style or theme, but in terms of age. I seriously don't think this hotel room has ever been updated. No water pressure, dark, dingy room with two double beds. I've stayed in nicer La Quinta's when nothing else was available. Since we got in late Friday, I waited until Saturday morning to ask the front desk what else came with the "Graduation Package". The rep looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language he'd never encountered. He had no knowledge of any package but encouraged me to check out the rooftop bar. I caution any parent, relative, or friend of a future UVA grad - while the location is good for access to campus and The Corner, the Graduate Charlottesville preys on out-of-towners like us. It's an overpriced, small, low-service venue that conflates outdated with boutique. I have two more headed to college with options in cities housing other Graduate Hotels (Nashville, Athens) but would rather camp in a KOA (better water pressure for sure) than fork over another penny to this money-grubbing chain. I can already see the future write-down Hilton will be taking when it realizes (too late) they've been scammed out of $210M by this sleazy brand......

Yelp
Very clean and comfortable and close walk to shops and restaurants. Directly across from UVA. Staff is very friendly. There's a coffee bar that rivals Starbucks in the lobby, game room in 2nd floor and a roof top bar on the 9th floor. The only thing that perplexes me is the extra toilet paper roll in a canvas sack with a rope. You need a magician to get it out!! Price was right and we will definitely stay here again. The famous UVA alum on the keys are a nice touch. We had Amanda Thomas and Tina Fey which added a nice touch.

Yelp
We came here for drinks an a nosh and it was very impressive considering it's a college town bar, we had the salmon and the most amazing vegetables not kidding!! The lovely bartender was also the chef and she really put did herself! Cocktails were a bit tiny for the price but carefully made, u can tell. We will be back !

Yelp
This hotel has a lot of potential. The premium price they charge should have corresponded to the service they provided. The first issue is that the only parking option is valet. When traveling via automobile we like to have jacket and cooler options so getting to our car was a hassle. Then there was a couple of security / privacy issues. The in room safe had a broken button which did not function (photo attached). So all of our valuables were at risk if left in the room. A bigger problem was that when we stay just a couple of days we usually avoid housekeeping by placing the "Do Not Disturb" sign on our doorknob. When we left for the afternoon we returned in the evening and found that the DND sign was ignored and housekeeping entered our room. So a broken safe and people entering our room without permission was a big problem for us. Another issue was the view (photo attached). We were on the 3rd floor so when we opened the curtains in our room we didn't expect to see car headlights. Now there's no free breakfast but there is complimentary coffee in the lobby every morning. Well of course when I attempted to try some it was empty. Finding someone and waiting for a cup was time consuming and I felt the time would have been better spent visiting Starbucks next door. Now when I shared these concerns with staff and management. I received a generic apology stating that they will inform the appropriate team to make sure it doesn't happen again. I can almost guarantee that someone will respond to this review stating something similar. So we will never visit this hotel again.

Yelp
We booked a one night stay here through Expedia. The day before our stay, we received a welcome text from the hotel. We had a busy day and didn't plan on checking in until after our dinner. After 10 PM, we received a text from the hotel saying that they were oversold and moving us elsewhere and they would cover a 1-night stay. The hotel they tried to move us to was not pet friendly and lesser quality. I called and they moved us to a new hotel that was pet friendly. I spoke with Vincent at the Graduate and he ensured me I'd have no problems at check out at the new hotel. When I checked into the new hotel, they said our stay would be covered by the graduate. Upon check out, I was charged over $500 for our stay by the Quirk hotel. Overall, a terrible experience with the Graduate with poor recovery for their mistake and follow through. The Quirk is refunding our stay and reaching out to the Graduate for payment. Also, I have yet to get my refund from Expedia for the night I booked at the Graduate because they have not been refunded by the hotel. I've called customer service a number of times and the Graduate is not refunding Expedia so they are not refunding me. This place is awful.

Yelp
Hotel has a ridiculously unforgiving cancellation policy, almost 2 weeks from stay and if you're within that window it's a 0% refund. Better off booking with one of the larger corporate hotels that will allow you to cancel and is more understanding.

Yelp
The Graduate is the musty, dirty, ancient Red Roof Inn that's been on the Corner for decades, with a new coat of paint. The rooms are tiny, weirdly decorated, dark, and falling apart. The hallways feel old and cramped. Our bathroom had ancient Malin and Goetz bottles of soap that looked like they'd been refilled a thousand times. The shower door wouldn't stay closed. The bedroom "suite" (the Jefferson Suite) was super small. This place isn't a luxury hotel and isn't worth the price they charge. Came to stay for a weekend, and ended up canceling the second night and moving to the Quirk Hotel a few blocks away. Same price but was airy, bright, relaxing, hip and clean.

Yelp
Mixed feelings given how beautiful the UVA campus is and yet the amount of homeless surrounding the hotel. Thought also the fee for parking while staying at the hotel was a bit excessive, yet understand the location.

Yelp
Graduate hotel group- c'mon!!! This hotel is NOT representative of your brand. I stayed at Graduate Columbia and it was FABULOUS. As an interior designer, I shudder for your designer's fabulous design intent executed so poorly. First point of employee contact was the valet hustling us HARD for a tip, showing us the QR code for virtual tipping before handing us the vehicle claim ticket. The check in process was seamless, initially. We received our key cards and hauled our tired selves (having toured two college campuses that day) to the 6th floor. Keys didn't work. I left my son with the bags in the hall and returned to the front desk. The clerk muttered something about new locks and issues with cards, swiped two new cards and said "these should work". They did NOT, in fact, work. I return again to the desk and the clerk's attitude was a bit (shrug emoji). She said "I guess I'll have to go up and let you in". We return to the 6th floor, and as she lets us in I ask if we need to get her every time we want to leave and return. Again, her attitude was (shrug emoji). I told her this was unacceptable, her reply was "I guess I can give you another room". So back down we go, and she gives us another room. We go to this room on the 6th floor, it's not the king bed room I'd paid for. I leave my son in the room as he now urgently needs to use the WC. The clerk does nothing to disguise her dismay at seeing me AGAIN. I explain the issue and she sighs and says "I'll give you another room". She gives us a room on the 5th floor, and before I return to room #2 on the 6th floor to retrieve my son, I go to the 5th floor room and try the keys. THEY. DO. NOT. WORK. It's now 25+ minutes we've been trying to check in. I return again to the front desk and explain that I'll wait until the manager or someone who can actually fix this problem arrives. She says that the building engineer is actually returning to the building imminently. He arrives a short time later, she hands us two new keys and up we go. Of course, these two keys do not work. The building engineer who was SUPER NICE explains that the rooms had all recently received new keying systems and they'd been having issues. He lets me in and promises to return shortly with new keys. I text my son the new room location and wait. The engineer returns within 5 minutes, new key cards in hand. They do not work, he then reprograms the whole assembly and 6 minutes later we have working keys. Yay. I retrieve my kid and we settle in. First impression of the room, lipstick on a pig. They clearly just tried a spit and polish approach to whatever hotel previously occupied the building. Looks like they painted over the old floor tile. Gaping holes in drywall around the shower base. Dusty. Dirty. Really dirty. The bed? Some weird amalgamation of a queen/CA king bed. I'm 5'2", I took a picture lying on the bed with my head at one side. The bed should extend 20" + past my feet. It clearly doesn't. We were so beat by this point that we just freshened up and went out to dinner. Despite setting the AC on 67° on the highest fan setting, the room never got below 73°. There was plenty of hot water the next morning in the shower, thank goodness, because it took twice as long to shower due to the lowest water pressure I've experienced in the developed world. The only bright spot in this visit (aside from the wonderful building engineer) was the checkout clerk. I shared a fraction of the issues, she was apologetic and covered our valet parking. Do not stay here.

Yelp
I'm not here expecting a resort. We had to spend two nights while my husband had a surgery at UVA. This hotel makes up in hospitality what it lacks in modern amity's. Our heat worked well. The tub was clean enough my friend and I both took a soak. I know a microwave and coffee pot are taken for granted these days. But, we had a fridge and microwave and coffee down stairs. No problem visiting in my house coat. Our room was warm and clean. My housekeeper was a doll. He came in and fixed a small lighting problem plus bringing fresh towels without a request. Rare these day. To sum it up, any amenity we were lacking the staff made up for it. Just ask them for what you need. I'll stay here again when my husband comes for follow up. Thanks Jaz, Carly and Mark . Love you.

Yelp
Hotel is located across the street from the University of Virginia. Great hotel! Check in and check out process is speedy. Staff all over the hotel is really friendly. The rooms are really clean. The beds and pillows are really comfortable. The sheets super soft. Hotel gym has a PELETON!!

Yelp
You can't drink the water in Charlottesville and this place charges $5 for each bottled water in your room. That's messed up.

Yelp
I chose this hotel specifically for the rooftop bar since Quirk, the hotel down the street, had no availability. Arrived at the hotel and were informed the rooftop bar was closed. When we asked for the rationale, we were not given one. No construction, not outside of normal hours, just not open. While we were disappointed, we were willing to overlook it since the hotel apparently had other amenities. Well, come to find out, the game room on the second floor was under construction, so we weren't able to use those facilities, the cafe downstairs was closed for the night, so couldn't buy water or snacks, and the fountain in the fitness room was broken, so we couldn't refill our reusable bottles and had to pop next door to the market to buy plastic water bottles. Why do we pay extra to stay at places like this? For all the extras a Courtyard Marriott don't usually provide. So when you don't provide those extras, I expect not to pay a premium for my stay. On top of this, the AC in our room wouldn't get below 73 and blew constantly. I had to attend some work meetings over Zoom and the obnoxious AC had to be turned all the way down because of the background noise. Additionally, the first shower I took, the water would not get hot! I turned it all the way to the left and it was still frigid. Plus, to say the water "pressure" was lacking is an understatement. It's like showering under a sink faucet. I finished my cold shower and called the front desk to have someone come look at our shower. The woman that answered said "I'll call maintenance" and then hung up. No "goodbye" or estimate for when they'd arrive. Luckily the maintenance crew showed up super quick and managed to get the hot water flowing, but nothing could be done about the pressure. They also told us the AC would get better as the sun went down - not the case. After they left, we noticed they had tracked black stuff all over the bathroom floor and we had to mop this up ourselves. They really should wear shoe covers so they don't make an epic mess. I also wanted to mention how ridiculous it is to pay $18 parking in a nearly 100% empty and filthy parking garage that gave me no confidence our car wouldn't be vandalized. How hard is it to pick up trash in your garage and make it at least somewhat presentable? At least the bed was comfortable and the room was clean, so I was mostly willing to overlook a lot of these flaws, but the straw that broke the camel's back came in the morning when we called for a late check out. I'm working remotely this trip and was hoping for a 1 or 2 pm check out to accommodate my meetings - something I've easily secured at large chain hotels. You'd think after all of these issues we'd run into that they'd be willing to bend just a little, but no. A noon check out was all they could offer. I'll now be forced to work in a populated and noisy area because all of the other spaces I'd usually use when researching hotels like this are closed to the public without being notified on their website. I was told I could sit outside on the 2nd floor for more privacy, but it's going to be 100 degrees here today. Are you serious?? We used to live in Charlottesville, but business after business here has closed and moved away, leaving depressingly broken down and empty buildings in their wake. This is all to say that we had hoped to help this crumbling town by staying in a smaller chain near downtown, but we won't be back. I hope this is the last time I ever have to come to this town, but if I do, I won't be staying at this hotel and can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
We wanted it to be really random, so tried the express deal and landed on this. Location is great, lots of places to eat nearby. But as a lot of reviews say 1) you don't get the Mountain View from all rooms 2) they might as well increase the room price instead of charging for "strictly" valet parking later. As soon as we entered the room the jet engines fired off and we secured ourselves for take off. Took us a moment to realize it was the AC. The bed, as my wife called it , was like quick sand. Once you get in it's hard to get out. There was no support -if you know what I mean ( wink wink). Wish they had room service. Overall it served the purpose for one night.

Yelp
Ugh. It could be so much better. Pros - location obviously, friendly staff and comfortable beds Cons - not clean (trash in room trash can/spills on furniture), rooms only serviced upon request- request towels in advance! parking 18/day valet or self park, hotel seems to be running on a skeleton staff, only one elevator working (and it was down for a while) , elevator smelled horrible- someone said it was sewer gas!?! I called about the ac. Was told someone was coming. They did not. The rooms do not come with any info (restaurant info, things that are in the area, tv channel info etc).

Yelp
I've always been a fan of boutique hotels. No two rooms look exactly alike. Not run of the mill decor. Uniquely designed and decorated. All of this is the case w/ Graduate Charlottesville. It almost feels like you've stepped back in time, but have all modern conveniences. My room was comfortable. And quiet! Was I the only one on the entire floor? Check-in was easy, except their parking is valet only. Not expensive, but your only other option is the street. And this is on The Corner, so parking is hard to come by. If you want to be on The Corner in the heart of UVa, then this is a great option. If you don't steer clear. I didn't get a chance to check out the restaurant or rooftop, unfortunately.

Yelp
Spent 2 nights here and was disappointed. I expected kitschy, but I did not expect shabby. The property is past due for a major facelift. The public rooms are pleasant but the guest rooms need help! Sagging, uncomfortable bed, drapes that don't close completely, a free standing clothing rack rather than a closet. The bathroom was large but fixtures were chipped, stained. There was no vanity, just a sink precariously attached to the wall. Every inch of the room and bath needs scrubbing and/or repainting. All this for $350/night. The only thing in its favor is the location -- a short walk to the Corner and the UVA Grounds, a mile walk to the Downtown Mall. There are other, nicer hotels very nearby (The Draftsman or Courtyard Marriott). I'll be choosing one of those next time.

Yelp
Had a great two-night stay here to celebrate my birthday. The hotel is close to many things on W Main St and the free trolley to the downtown mall was a bonus. By far, the great customer service by many of their staff members set the location apart. Anna was helpful with lots of information upfront when we made our reservation. During our stay, Wendy and Kevin L stayed in contact with us and provided us with great information. They were wonderful hosts, always making sure our stay was pleasurable. The game room on the second floor is open during the pandemic but we did not take advantage of this feature. There were nearby restaurants, places to walk, public transportation, etc. We were able to bring our well-behaved pup for a reasonable cost of $25/night which is more affordable than most hotels. The only items we weren't a fan of were the tight door frames and poor water pressure in the shower.

Yelp
This is the worst hotel experience we have ever had. Motel 6 has better service. First of all we were not able to get into our room. We are currently on key number 5."Maintenance" has been required to get into our room x3. All the amenities listed on the website are not currently available. Also the only way to park tour car is via Valet, we had to wait 30min last night for our car to get parked. We are a very understanding couple but this stay has been awful, especially with the price we have paid per night. You are better off staying in an Air BNB or motel close by.

Yelp
Very central location, clean and nice, but booked for a Mountain View at a steep price. "View" turned out to be smokestacks, and hotel unable to rebate as they wanted to bc booked through Expedia. Nice staff did their best w breakfast vouchers. Takeaway: hotel is fine but do not be lured into paying extra for nonexistent view (photo below) and don't book through Expedia.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to stay in Charlottesville. The ambiance is so fun, especially being in a college town and with it's location right on the Corner. There is a rooftop bar/restaurant. We did not have the best experience with the food but the drinks were great and the view is wonderful.

Yelp
I visited this past weekend and had a average experience. Our car got lost in valet and we got brought the wrong car.. when we told the guy that it was not our car he acted as though he did not believe us. Not sure If we will be back

Yelp
We were in Charlottesville and staying at the Graduate 1/15/22... the entire staff was delightful. From the valet to the front desk. Our room was hot at night but the guy at the desk was unbelievable in trying to help us get comfortable. They were very accommodating to say the least. I will totally stay at this Graduate as well as any Graduate in the future. Also it is located to walking distance to wonderful restaurants.

Yelp
We came here for a quick overnight visit away from our infant. It was very nice! Pros: Walking distance to a LOT of restaurants, bars, etc. Simple, clean amenities. Price was great. Cons: Parking was a challenge, you pretty much need to pay to valet. Also some questionable stains in the carpet, under a desk.

Yelp
This hotel has seen better days. It's run down and in many areas dirty. The rooftop bar was a disaster area... dirty and furniture everywhere. The front desk and cafe/bar were OK. Charlottesville's downtown area is just outside the front door. Not worth the price to stsy here in my opinion.

Yelp
This was our second trip to Charlottesville and second time at this Graduate. Warm welcoming atmosphere, Dog friendly with treats for them on entry. The rooms are larger than normal with a very comfortable bed. Great value for money, and recommend you try the latte from downstairs for breakfast and the cocktails from the bar at the top. Have fun and hope you enjoy as much as we did

Yelp
A wonderful hotel in the heart of all the action at UVA. The service was very nice. The restaurant was closed. They allowed the students to study there. A very cool vibe!!

Yelp
There is a definitely a cozy vibe at the Graduate. Everyone is very friendly and the experience isn't like going to a standard hotel. This was also a great value. We got rooms for $95/night for a Tuesday in early November. It's minutes' walking distance from UVA's campus and all of downtown. Another thing I really appreciated was the attention to detail on the decor. There's a college dorm theme and you see it in things like our room key cards mimicking college ID cards and the mini notebook you get in your room (rather than the commonly used hotel notepad). The service is great too. The toilet in my room was making a slight noise and they sent someone up to look at it within minutes, then changed me to a brand new room when they realized it a was bigger problem that needed to be fixed. The 2nd floor is like a lounge with foosball, a ping pong table, sofas, and big dining tables. There were actually a lot of people quiety working or studying each time I went through there. The gym was minimal but fine. There were 3 machines (elliptical, treadmill, and bike), a weight bench, and free weights that went up to about 50 pounds. There is no water fountain or water cooler in the gym, so make sure to bring your own bottle! The rooftop bar is nice - it's probably one of the tallest buildings in Charlottesville and offers good views of the area. The valet parking is $10/day with unlimited re-entry.

Yelp
I can't see why anyone would stay here other than its location. the wifi simply does not work. period. no drinking glasses were provided in the room. the carpets in hallways and rooms are filthy. the decor is tired and worn out (not to mention 50 years out of date). front desk service incompetent, unresponsive, and uncooperative. never returning.

Yelp
Third stay and the last. With the air conditioning issues, no coffee and their cafe still closed, I opt for a more accommodating hotel next visit. Also, some shady characters were placed in a room next to ours.

Michele M.

Yelp
I have stayed here several times previously when visiting my son, who is a student at UVA. I arrived tonight, after a long journey, at 10pm to find my room is not ready yet. Several guests are similarly stuck in the lobby waiting for their rooms. There is no explanation, no apology, and no offers to try to make this right. Unbelievable.

Yelp
My young son and I went here for a "staycation" during our spring break--we live in Charlottesville, but hardly ever get down to The Corner. Kevin L made our stay especially nice--helped us discover things I didn't know about and made our stay in the hotel very pleasant with all the amenities. Will definitely let people know!

Yelp
Contrary to most reviews, I visited the Graduate late at night to try some of their drinks on their rooftop bar. I really enjoyed the ambiance and overall atmosphere. They had indoor and outdoor seating. It wasn't as busy as I had expected; however, towards later in the night I noticed more people around the bar area. This is definitely a great place to grab a drink with some friends for a more laid back experience. I tried the blackberry mojito, moscow mule, and truffle fries. Their drinks were on the more pricier side ($11) and the truffle fries were $5. I HIGHLY recommend the moscow mule--although it wasn't strong the flavors were on point. I could have easily drank 5 of them! The blackberry mojito was okay and even a little disappointing. It was strong, but lacked the blackberry flavor that I really wanted. The truffle fries were delicious and definitely have the truffle taste; however, they were WAY too salty. If it weren't for the ketchup to cut some of the salt, I wouldn't have been able to have more than three fries. Overall the service was good. From the second I entered the hotel, we were politely greeted by the staff. Our server was extremely friendly and welcoming. My only issue was the service was pretty slow. Our drinks took about 10-15 minutes to arrive, even tho they weren't that busy. In the end, I'll definitely come back again just for the moscow mule!

Yelp
My friend and I recently stayed here for 2 nights on a girls weekend trip. The entrance was a bit tough to find off of the main street cause it was so small, but valet parking was helpful and worth the $16/day. The location was perfect for accessing all the shops and restaurants around the area by foot. The upstairs area was not open because of Covid, but the rooms and lobby were nice and the staff was helpful. They currently do not service the rooms, but that is ok because you may feel better knowing that you and the person you are staying in the room with are the only ones in your room for your stay. The hotel seems a bit aged with historic decor, but it also seemed in good condition in the room and the bathrooms. One negative was that there did not seem to be a fan in the bathroom so everything was fogged up after showers. Overall, a great place to stay for a few nights and very convenient.
