Gran Duca Hotel

I stayed here for one night in October 2025. I had my 8kg dog with me. They did charge €15 extra for the dog which was not clear in the booking process, but I understand. The rooms are a bit dated but just fine and spotlessly clean. There is an elevator too. The location is right on the waterfront and while close to the port, separated by security walls so the actual distance to Corsica Ferries is really too far to walk, about 1500m. There is a local bus that goes straight from the Stazione Centrale to the hotel. Make sure you buy your ticket! The transit police boarded checked tickets all three times I took this bus.

Lovely and clean. A few decor issues like broken floor tiles and could do with a lick of paint- but beautifully, classic Italian style with a comfortable bed and great air con/ heater in the room. I enjoyed hanging out the window to people watch from my room on Halloween 🎃. I have to say- my evening meal at the hotel restaurant was incredible. Huge bowl of perfectly cooked pasta, fresh light flavourful fried cod to die for with fresh lemon, and the best tiramasu I have ever had. Im not particularly a foody, but every mouthful was stunning.

Stench of sewer in lobby and breakfast room. Bed as hard as stone, some may like it, but I got up with inflamed shoulders and pain in my back. The room is lit up at night by an emergency light that prevented me from falling asleep. When finally finally I slumbered at around 6.15 am, noise from traffic, people in the hallway, some machine somewhere, woke me up as there is zero sound insulation. On the bright side: rooms were clean, the water hot and the breakfast girl charming. Overall, no matter how charming from the outside, I would avoid this hotel.

This hotel really helped us out of a bind. Our cruise ship was docked across the street overnight and the port was closed by the time we returned from Florence. We were frantic to find somewhere decent to sleep while still clean and affordable. The hotel staff was accommodating and the room was good! Thanks Hotel Gran Duca for helping us!

The Granduca still retains what is obviously past grandeur in its own italian way, though without sacrificing basic amenities as upgrades have been made (AC, fire security, locks, automation) without losing an atmosphere that induces you to play it the hotels way, such as appreciating the lively surroundings (scooter noise) and sitting on the spacious west-facing verandah (many 2xx rooms have them) or enjoying the countless nearby bars and restaurants, including the hotels own. No bugs in my room, everything clean and working well, and I will definitely stay here again when I return to Livorno.

Bad service and quality of food is below level! They served the main while we were still eating starter. On top of all there was hair on top of the food and they couldn't even apologize. Place to be avoided!

I want to Thank the warm, friendly, helpful staff that helped me thru my 12 day stay @ the hotel while my husband was hospitalized in Livorno.

Stayed overnight on business. Couldn't fault the service, really helpful. Nice location and the restaurant downstairs is a really good choice if you don't want to stray too far
