How the Safari Industry Is Getting More Accessible

"New resorts such as the Gran Meliá Arusha are built to international accessibility standards and take into account the needs of aging baby boomers, who typically make up the lion’s share of safari-goers." - Travel + Leisure Editors

A True Luxury Oasis in Arusha! From the moment I arrived at Gran Meliá Arusha, I was blown away by the beauty, service, and attention to detail. The hotel is surrounded by lush gardens and a private coffee plantation, offering breathtaking views of Mount Meru right from the balcony of my room. The rooms are spotless, spacious, and elegantly decorated with modern touches that still reflect Tanzanian culture. The Red Level experience is a must-try — the personalized service and private lounge access made my stay feel truly exclusive. The dining options are incredible! Every meal was fresh and flavorful — especially the breakfast buffet, which featured ingredients sourced from their own gardens. The rooftop bar is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunset. The staff went above and beyond — always warm, professional, and eager to assist. Special thanks to the concierge team who helped arrange a last-minute tour that turned out to be the highlight of my trip. Whether you’re in Arusha for business, safari, or leisure, Gran Meliá is the ultimate home away from home. Highly recommended!

From the Entrance gate through out the whole property the place screams opulence. Everything was magnificent and gorgeous. The landscape, Tea and coffee plantation, The garden and the swimming pool with Mt. Meru on the backdrop everything was impressive. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Food was amazing and choices were overwhelming. Food was bountiful like the first thanksgiving. Boniface might as well translate his name directly from French because that face is nice. Gym, spectacular. Sauna and steam room, yeah, they got those too. Great time. My cousin had a little trouble getting down to meals on time, but I’m sure this has nothing to do with you guys. Thanks for the mems. Oh and thank you to Winifred. Glorious foot massage. Couldn’t have done it better myself. She works magic. Ask for her directly. Also remember to grab Bonifaces’ insta. Great looking guy. Again.

We arrived at the hotel first thing this morning after a long flight with no sleep. Plus Qatar Air had left our case in Doha. So arriving blurry eyed, tired and in need of a shower, how the hotel respond. Brilliantly. Boniface on reception did all he could to get us into our room early. Offering us breakfast and use of the sauna and shower. Adam our Red Level liaison called Qatar several times to find out what time our case was going to be arriving. We had hopped to book the Roof for dinner, but that was booked for a private function. We opted for the Grill instead. I hadn’t seen many reviews for this place. But the food was superb, it took a while to come out, but my wife and I had enjoyed the drinks, nibbles and sweets in the Red level lounge. So we were fine with the wait. The steak was seasoned to perfection, juicy and tender. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, & the lobster was melt in the mouth, sweet and buttery. It might not have the view of the Roof, but the food is hard to beat. I have been so impressed with all the staff, the manager and other senior staff members getting stuck in at dinner and making everyone feel truly looked after. Very impressed.

We had two nights at the hotel bookending safari tours and following a Kilimanjaro climb. It was the perfect place to be after coming off the mountain as able to relax in the spa and get great massages. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is truly impressive — perfectly located with some of the best views in Arusha. The overall quality, from the rooms to the dining experience, reflects a high standard, which justifies the premium pricing. However, while the core hospitality is excellent, the extra services could use improvement. The timing and execution of these add-ons lacked the attentiveness and consistency you’d expect from a hotel of this caliber.

The Meliá Arusha is a beautiful hotel which served as a great starter point in Tanzania. All of the staff have been amazing! Irene in Saba Saba was an amazing and attentive server as were the hosts, busters, and managers. What a great first impression of this beautiful country!
