We just returned from a weeklong stay at Granados 83 and, overall, it was an excellent experience! The staff was very welcoming, the location was perfect (for us), and the room was perfectly suitable for our needs.
The undeniable negative to anyone visiting?
As Pavel F. mentioned, the hallways did have a funky smell to them, which wasn't exactly the best introduction to the hotel upon walking to our room. It was like a scented mixture of mildew and sewage, but I wouldn't say it was overwhelming...just kind of something we grew accustomed to. We didn't spend too much time there anyway.
The potential negatives to some people (but not to us)?
Street noise. My wife and I live on a busy road in the city in America, so we're used to sleeping through noise, but this is Barcelona (outdoor seating/open fronted restaurants and bars, and people starting their nights around 10PM-12AM through 3 or 4AM) and there are a few bars/restaurants on the block that could potentially keep a lighter sleeper up later than he or she would prefer. This is something you'll experience nearly ANYWHERE in the city, though, and honestly, this location is much quieter than the more touristy parts of town.
Location. This area of town isn't as close to some of the places that some tourists may prefer to see. It's possibly too far to walk for some to Barri Gotic, Parc Guell, or the beaches for many, but there's a cab stand on the corner and you're very close to the metro station. You're also only a few blocks from the Diagonal, Rambla de Catalunya (further up from Las Ramblas), and Passeig de Gracia.
TV. Unless you are fluent in Spanish, you can likely put the remote in the safe, along with your passport. Haha. There's nothing in English, so unless you're into watching soccer (which was awesome to see on the TV any time I turned it on!), you'll be relaxing to familiar shows in an unfamiliar language. You really shouldn't be worried about it anyway...no need to watch TV on vacation in an incredible city, right? Exactly.
Wifi. My wife had no issues with the wifi speed. I'd say the only downside of the wifi is that you only get it for 3 days for free, so for a longer stay, you'll be paying for wifi if it's a necessity. We only used our phones, and only used the data for basic stuff, so if you're there to do work in the room, I can't comment on the quality, but for smartphone usage, we had no issues.
The positives for us?
Location. We walk...a lot, so covering ground by foot was no problem from here. We walked everywhere, from the Camp Nou to Barceloneta, Barri Gotic, El Born, El Raval, Segrada Familia, Parc Guell, etc. We racked up the mileage covering every part of town, except for the Olympic village, but it was a great location. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and you're far enough from the complete insanity of the primary tourist spots to relax and feel more of the Barcelona way of life. Even if you don't want to stay at Granados 83, the area was wonderful. Highly recommended.
Staff. They were all great. Very welcoming, spoke English (and suffered through any of my Spanish), and helpful in every way! We never had the staff clean our room during our stay, so we can't comment on their quality (room was well-stocked and never dirtied it up enough to require service), but every person on the staff that we encountered was pleasant.
Room. Our room was pretty simple, but nice and modern, with plenty of room for two people. There's a safe in the room, a nice TV, and a pretty large bathroom. I know there are some tiny rooms in the hotel, but ours was definitely good. The bed wasn't the most comfortable one we've ever slept on in a hotel, but it was perfectly fine. Cleanliness wasn't an issue, either.
Overall, I would recommend Granados 83. There are countless hotels in Barcelona and so sooooo many different neighborhoods to explore, so you have to decide on the type of trip you'd like to experience before committing to any hotel. If you're planning on spending your time on the beach, then I'd say this area is a bit far. If you want to spend your time dodging tourists and pickpockets on the lower parts of Las Ramblas, this might not be ideal, either. BUT for us, after seeing nearly every possible area in the city, I can say L'Eixample is a wonderful option, and Granados 83 wouldn't be a poor choice by any means! We may possibly be returning to the hotel next year.
