What to Do in Old Dubai: Our Guide

"The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU), a non-profit organization located in one of the oldest neighborhoods of Dubai, offers interesting tours of the Diwan Mosque. You'll begin with a visit to the mosque, which is otherwise unavailable to non-Muslims, before returning to the SMCCU house for a "cultural discovery" session paired with Arabic tea, coffee, and dates in a beautiful traditional Arabic majlis (sitting area). Thanks to an "open doors open minds" policy, guests have the opportunity to ask questions about Islam and Bedouin culture." - Dylan Essertier, Laura Ratliff

Absolutely beautiful and a MUST visit! We dont usually like to spend a lot of hours in many places but you will want at least 2 hours here. Recommend to come a bit before sunset time to see this beauty in the day time and when it gets dark and lights up.

10th October 2025 That was the first day I landed in Dubai. Alhamdulillah, I had the chance to offer my Namaz/Salah at the Grand Bur Dubai Masjid. This masjid is amazing and beautiful.

The Grand Bur Dubai Masjid is beautifully decorated, looking truly majestic and well-maintained. The atmosphere was serene, and the mosque was impressively clean and welcoming. Alhamdulillah, I had the honour of praying Jummah Salah there on Friday, 27th June, which also marked the 1st day of Muharram. A spiritually uplifting experience to begin the Islamic New Year.

It is perfectly situated right across from the Dubai Museum, making it a must-visit stop while exploring the historic Al Fahidi area

Though I couldn't go inside, I could still learn about the beauty of this mosque from the outside. It was initially established in the year 1900 as a school, rebuilt in the year 1960 and further renovated in the year 1998. It has 70m tall minaret which is tallest minaret in Dubai. There are 9 large domes and 45 small ones. It can accommodate 1200 worshippers. Visitors are not allowed in the prayer hall but can check other areas.

A must visit! You feel so spiritually connected. The architecture is beautiful and the mosque is very big and spacious. You do have to take off your shoes and socks and please wash your feet as it respectful and custom. Overall this was a great experience.
