Hello Ness

Google
Not the best café at the palace, but the food was tasty and enjoyed a sandwich, drink and some macaroons during our time there and there were a lot of tables available to eat during our visit.

I was just reminiscing about my visit there years ago and how I had the best little lunch there. I had a little sandwich, a little cake, and Versailles sparkling water. That sparkling water is still my favorite and I wish I could get it here. The restaurant itself wasn't fancy but I was only sitting there for a minute before we were all evacuated for a terrorist threat. We walked down so many flights of stairs and I was enjoying my sandwich so much I was completely unconcerned. I ate the little cake outside in the courtyard and thoroughly enjoyed being evacuated with my yummy sandwich, little cake, and sparkling water. I hope I can go back again someday. How funny that I would enjoy the food in a museum so much. I love Versailles and I loved that lunch.

The avocado toast is amazing. A great snack mid journey of your tour.

Versailles is a very busy place, and the restaurants available within the castle grounds can be incredibly pricey for the common tourist. We went to this cafe because we weren't incredibly hungry and just needed to recharge from our walk around the Trianon Domain before heading inside the chateau itself. Let's start with the atmosphere. There's a line of course, and it leads to a small section of baskets. Pick one up if you intend to take goods from the cooled shelves. There are sandwiches, drinks, desserts, and small snacks. Though it's a bit weird if you're buying alone since if you leave your spot in line to fetch food, it's a little awkward to go back to your previous spot and already be taken over by someone. There needs to be a more solid pathing between falling in line and going to the cashier. The service was alright at best. The first time we got our main meal, the two cashiers were chatting away as if they didn't have any clients to tend to, and we waited for a while just to pay for a cold sandwich, a slice of cake, water, and espresso - which grew cold due to the cashiers taking their sweet time. The second time around however, I bought 'goûter' menu and got a better cashier who was attentive and more welcoming. When you get your order, you will need to find a spot to sit in one of the three rooms to the right. Otherwise, just order to-go so you can sit outside the castle walls and enjoy the weather while eating. As for the food... Very average. The mini sandwich I got had a braided brioche bread which was way too dry. Could use a bit more sauce and more variety in filling. Only ham, cheese, and salad were available. There are larger sandwiches, soup of the day, and quiche of the day.

Yelp
Arriving at Versailles hungry, we decided to brunch at Le Grand Cafe d'Orleans before pretending to be Marie Antoinette/King Louis for the day. Walking in, there is a cafe area where you order food and then find your own table and there is a restaurant section where they actually serve you warm, real food. Not wanting to eat crappy, cafe food in France, we made a beeline for the restaurant section. The restaurant itself is really cute. The lighting is very soft and natural so of course, I seized the opportunity to take some photos! It was so quaint that my friends asked if it was the restaurant that Carrie ate at in SATC. :) The waiters were pretty curt at this restaurant... actually one cute waiter who understood English was nice but I think the other one was having some difficulty with figuring out what we wanted, so he had a bit of an attitude. However, when I got up to use le toilette, two waiters followed me out to "show" me where to go. Easy fellas!!!! So... they definitely give you first class treatment when you are a girl!!! ;) I ordered the quiche florentine with salmon. It was good...pretty much your typical quiche. Nothing to write home about. My husband ordered the club sandwich. He enjoyed it. I'm sure there are other places to go to in Versailles that are much better than at the castle. But if you end up at the castle and want to stay away from crappy cafe food, go to the restaurant.

Yelp
So our party of 4 choose this place as we were super hungry and prices were more affordable that the restaurant upstairs - sandwich + drink + chips/ dessert set us back about €10 average per person. The drinks were super expensive - €3 for a can of Coke, €3.30 for artisanal drinks (lemon and agrum flavours) and €2 for tea- no one in our group had coffee so not sure of that cost. The sandwiches were really a mixed lot - 2 of us lucked out with our choices as both the salami and chicken bacon honey sandwiches were really good. The folks who got the veggie tomato cheese sandwich as well as the salmon sandwich really disliked their selection and having taken a bite - I would have to agree. The salmon was cut super thick and the bread was super soggy - each bite was like eating sandy quicksand. Same for the veggie sandwich - it was just bread bread bread all the time - didn't have enough stuffing and the tomatoes were a joke. The chicken bacon honey sandwich was pretty darn good and was something I would get again, but other than that, would recommend maybe trying to eat at another place when at Versailles.

Yelp
prepacked sandwiches, wraps and other standard cafe fare . . . all of the food is decent. it's self seating for the most part - plastic chairs and 4-top tables in a couple of adjacent rooms. all told, you'd be better off at la flotille, where you can sit and admire the beautiful gardens, and eat off of actual dinnerware instead of out of a piece of butcher paper or a plastic to-go container, IPHO (^(oo)^)v

Yelp
This is a small self-serve cafeteria. After a day of standing in line and walking around the palace, we were ready to sit and eat pretty much anything. And boy, was that a good thing, because the food was about as blah and overpriced as one would expect from a self-serve cafeteria inside the palace. We didn't want to take the time to sit down to eat in the restaurant located upstairs, but we probably should have gone there instead. I guess it was tolerable, but there are no pleasant surprises here. If you're just hoping to take a load off and eat something, then go for it, but don't look here for any grand French dining experience.
