Where to Stay in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"With 451 lavish rooms across from the Royal Palace, Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky features natural muted hues, hardwood floors, plus-sized plasma TVs, super comfortable beds, and amazing showers; there’s a beautiful atrium when you walk in, and its in-house Michelin-starred restaurant, The White Room, also serves Dutch fare." - Matthew Kepnes

An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, Len, our host, set the tone for a truly memorable evening. She was warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional, making us feel genuinely welcomed and well taken care of. The food was outstanding — beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, and clearly prepared with great attention to detail. Every dish exceeded expectations and showcased the kitchen’s skill and creativity. What truly elevated the experience, though, was the service. Thoughtful without being intrusive, seamless throughout the evening, and clearly driven by a team that cares deeply about hospitality. This is the kind of place where everything comes together — atmosphere, food, and service — to create something special. Highly recommended, and we will absolutely be returning.

I am absolutely blown away by the Grand Café Krasnapolsky. Nothing screams to me professionalism and style like the service here from both front and back of the house. I was searching for a incredible steak Tuesday night and while I was at the host stand perusing the menu Emily persuaded me to try their steak. So, I succumb to her confidence in the restaurant. I had the french onion soup to begin, then a glass of red, and the Beef Entrecôte. When the steak and vegetables came out it had a sauce made specially by the chef because I had mentioned I liked wild mushrooms as a side. By the end, they had treated me with a desert I said I was okay having without. I am absolutely thrilled to have gone here and Emily and the rest of the crew has curated a wonderful experience I will never forget. I can tell this place takes good care of their employees and demonstrates the utmost attention to detail in serving their customers.

I expected much more from this hotel. We ordered an Italian, French, and Irish coffee, but all of them were served lukewarm, with very small portions and spray whipped cream. The service was inattentive even though it wasn’t busy, we had to call someone over just to place our order. The restrooms were also unclean, with toilet paper on the floor. For a hotel with such a high reputation, I expected far more class and quality.

We stayed at Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, and we had lunch at the original Krasnapolsky Cafe once. To be honest, the food isn’t impressively good, but it’s a great place for lunch with a great view of Dam Square.

I recently visited Grand Café at the Krasnopolsky Hotel in Amsterdam and was absolutely delighted! I’d like to especially thank the staff member, Edric, who was incredibly polite, kind, and highly professional. He helped me with my order and engaged in a pleasant conversation, making the entire experience truly wonderful. Additionally, I’d like to mention that the entire team was very friendly as well.

Me and my friend booked an afternoon tea there. And I must say it was a great experience. They offer 3 courses: savoury snacks, scones with toppings and dessert cakes, as well as unlimited tea and coffee for 49 EUR per person. Also, the service was prompt and attentive.

I celebrated my 40th birthday at Grand Cafe Krasnapolsky with one of my best friends, and it was exactly what I wanted. We had window seats with a stunning view, which added to the perfect balance of a welcoming atmosphere and privacy. Our waiter, Max, made the experience special by surprising us with decorations and a complimentary glass of champagne when he found out it was my birthday. The food was delicious, and the service was both professional and kind. I couldn't have asked for a better experience that suited my expectations perfectly. Highly recommended!

Google
staff was amazing!! The aesthetic was wonderful and gave a nice fine dining feeling to it. The burrata sandwich was really good value and they didn’t cheap out on the ingredients that’s for sure! I would highly recommend as a quick brunch stop from sight seeing in Amsterdam.

Yelp
For the price of this place is charging for afternoon tea, I would've expected a little more filling items. It seemed like they were trying to go for a Michelin star experience for an afternoon tea, however, all of the flavors were a miss. I did like the fact that you could change up your tea halfway through the service. The waiters were really nice and came to our table when we needed them. The inside of the restaurant is very clean open and big. I did not feel squished in. It was a unique experience, but I don't think I will be back due to the price and the quality of the food that you receive not matching.

Yelp
We received a $100 credit for booking the hotel through AmX. So, we tried to use it at the Grand Cafe. When we got to the cafe, they said they were all booked up with reservations. This was odd since we saw about 6 empty tables. Now, that would have been fine had we known we had to make reservations beforehand. The concierge recommended the cafe last night but forgot to relay this information. We passed by about 25 minutes later and those tables were still empty!! See the accompanying photo. Perhaps we'll have to spend that credit on drinks and dessert.

Yelp
The service and food are impeccable. Why one star lost? The price for what you receive. Terribly small portions for the price. However, the pastries and cakes are spectacular!

Yelp
This restaurant was deliciously wonderful to enjoy while we waited for our check in time. It was extremely busy but Josef and another gentleman from Spain (forgot his name) were extremely welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable. Top notch, genuinely kind service. This restaurant and hotel is incredibly lucky to have them on its team. The food is also really good and the wine & champagne selection is a dream. We'll be back!

Yelp
What a delightful place. The mussels and smoked fish (loud kiss noise). The service was just way way above expectations. The frites, the wine selection, all just lovely. We're staying in the hotel and there's no reason not to grab a dinner here.

Yelp
I just wish the service matched the food. The Krasnapolsky Hamburger I ordered was about one of the best I had. The patty was juicy, tasty and condiments were fresh. The bun was great and it tasted good by itself. Greeting was by a snooty nosed server, who probably enjoyed talking down to customers. It was late at night, I was hungry and not in the mood. At least, I made the server's day. The cafe is part of a classy hotel by the same name and located in the dam area. It is easy to get to from Amsterdam Centraal station. Tips were not mandatory, and this may be the reason for the lackluster service. The are not dedicated host/hostess to sit you at the table. So, it makes for awkward waits till the snooty nosed server greets you. Prices are pretty reasonable for a high class place.

Yelp
Fresh, beautifully arranged, and tasty food, complemented by attentive service. The atmosphere was elegant but not snooty. During my meal, they were bringing around a complementary tray of little bites the kitchen had prepared for diners to try at will. That was a nice surprise.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Reserved online for five people, intending to have afternoon tea. Received confirmation of our reservation but on arrival were told they hadn't checked their online reservations and could accommodate us for lunch but not tea. No apologies offered. We stayed for lunch. Very erratic service. Our original server disappeared to another table and after our appetizers the staff literally had forgotten our main courses and tried to give us our checks until we reminded them we still hadn't received our mains. They finally brought them out but by then had forgotten one of our party's main dishes and that took another 15 minutes to appear. Everyone has off days but we were never apologized to and in fact were treated rudely anytime we tried to get anyone's attention to ask about the status of our table's orders. It was really one of the worst examples of poor service I've experienced, particularly odd as it's not cheap and is located in an expensive and lovely center city hotel. Finally the food was ok but not great.
