Caverns Grotto – Peach Springs, Arizona - Gastro Obscura

"To get to this restaurant, you’ll need to take an elevator. You’ll be taking it down—21 stories down—into a 345-million-year-old cave network that stretches 60 miles to the Grand Canyon. Walter Peck first stumbled upon the cave in 1927 on his way to a poker game. He mistook the iron oxide and selenite crystals for gold and diamonds, and bought the surrounding 800 acres, though he may have been better served just playing poker. “What it all adds up to is we have one of the largest quantities of the most worthless material in Arizona,” tour guide Ron Pritchard told Arizona Highways TV, “but it’s fun to look at.” The space is now known as Grand Canyon Caverns, where visitors can explore the cave’s sprawling innards and, as of recently, stop for a bite while they’re at it. Known as the Caverns Grotto, the four-table eatery offers simple American comfort food that makes a not-so simple voyage to your table. Cooked at ground level, the food takes the elevator back down to the cave before it’s hoisted on a pulley 25 feet in the air to the raised wooden platform that is the dining room. With unobstructed, 360-degree views of the largest known chamber in the cave network and zero sound interference aside from other diners, it’s an incomparable auditory and visual dining experience. A decades-old mummified bobcat speaks to the fact that it is a “dead cave.” Without running water or sunlight, no bacteria (or any living organisms for that matter) can subsist in these depths, which means no creepy crawlies to worry about while you wine and dine. It’s cave eating at its finest. None" - lissatrek, Dontfencemein, CoolCrab, ScottFromWyoming, lukefater

To be honest, having been to multiple spectacular caverns in several states, we were not expecting too much. We were pleasantly surprised by this experience. Easy walk with just a few slightly challenging up and down hills on the path. Entry and exit is by elevator. The guide was informative and friendly. A unique part was we did the combo and had lunch at the bottom, 200' down in the cavern. Bison burgers were great especially with having to bring everything down from the restaurant up top. They did make a mistake on my meal, but corrected it within minutes, which is great considering someone had to get it from the restaurant at ground level! Some interesting facts about this dry, dead cave were shared AND there is a 'hotel room' at the bottom that you can book for the night. It is in a large cavern, with two queen beds, tv, dvd movies, and even a turntable for music. Booked up a YEAR in advance!! There is even Room Service!

The Caverns are open! We had so much fun! It was nice and cool down in the cave. We took an elevator down and went on the longer tour. Incredible history, I’m excited to come back.

It was a great tour! We love our tour guide Jovita. She is amazing and fun to be with. This place is a hidden treasure! I'm glad we visited it. Will definitely come back again.

Lovely, quirky motel. I stayed on my way to hike Havasupai and the location was perfect for that. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room had more space than I expected, and was clean and comfortable. We ate veggie burgers at the restaurant, which were excellent and very generously portioned. Well worth venturing off the highway for, for a fun, unique experience.

Fun casual cavern tour, great guides, helpful staff. I ate fry bread at the restaurant, and it was delicious! Well worth the trip!

Staff is friendly & accommodating. Mini golf is not maintained. Pool was clean (I didn't go in, but there were kids swimming & having a good time.) The cavern tours were not open due to construction of elevators to get to them. The whole place was a 50s-60s retro theme. It gave a vibe of the old horror movies. We were envisioning a neon sign to light up & start buzzing. LOL. No real modern amenities. There was a keurig clone coffee maker in the room, however. The A/C was a single non-thermostat unit in the wall. Turning a dial turns it on. You can set it to high or low, and adjust how cold. But it blows the same until you turn it off. The bed by the cooler got cold at night, while the farther one stayed very warm. My map research was faulty. It was supposed to be near Grand Canyon West Skywalk. Instead, it was near the Hualapai Tribe's headquarters. As that tribe runs the Skywalk, the maps pointed me there. There aren't really any hotels near the skywalk. But Kingman would be an hour closer. This hotel is 2 hours (via Kingman), or 1.5 hrs via a 22 mile (well maintained) dirt road. The motel was full of guests when we arrived, many hanging around visiting with each other on the grounds. The other guests were headed to Havasu and were gone before 8am. We did not get a lot of noise from them, other than the kid who was slamming a wet shirt against his families van right outside our window in the evening. (Not sure why he thought that would remove the water. He was acting like it was a rug that needed the dust banged out of it.) Overall, we had fun staying there. It was comfortable enough.

We booked the standard cave tour and lunch combo. If you are physically capable, I recommend taking the standard tour, as it shows you much more than the shorter one. Our guide was new to the job but very friendly. We finished the tour just in time for lunch, which I had been looking forward to. Here is our experience: Tips are mandatory when making the online reservation. Each lunch comes with a drink, and we chose diet soda. We were each given a mini-sized can. No water was served until we asked for it, even though we had just spent an hour walking up and down without any water (outside drinks are not allowed, which we totally understand). Then the server told us she hadn’t received our lunches from the kitchen on the ground level. Someone from upstairs radioed down saying they were out of onion rings, which were supposed to come with the burgers we had pre-ordered five days earlier. The server just replied, “That’s okay!” Really?! After waiting over 10 minutes while they were trying to figure out where our lunches were, I looked around the small area (it’s a four-seat eatery) and noticed a couple of covered plates. Those were our lunches. In the end, we had lukewarm burgers and soggy French fries. Keep in mind, we paid over $40 for each burger. It sounded like such a great idea to have lunch in a cave 200+ feet underground, but the service totally ruined it. While we were there, another table was also having lunch – they left early too.

Visiting for the first time in almost 6 years. We had a wonderful time! They are perpetually welcoming scientists into their place to continue doing testing and updating the history of the cave. I appreciate the ongoing exploration! We learned there are explorer opportunities where you can go deep into the caves with a guide! We got the Slothy Pulled Pork sandwiches and the Fry bread taco...they added chicken because i don't eat beef. It was fresh and yummy! The iced tea eas fresh brewed and refilled often. I am so happy to see they are still in operation. With some clever social media marketing the potential for more visitors is huge with such a beautiful and fairly easily walkable cave!

Yelp
If you are a Northern AZ local or just looking for something fun to check out on old Route 66 as you're travelling through, the Grand Canyon Caverns are worth a stop. The location is no-frills and doesn't look like much from the outside but the tour was interesting, caverns were beautiful, and our tour guide David (I think it was) was very knowledgable of the formations and history. It's also nice that the caverns stay at a cool 62 degrees all year when it can be scorching on the surface! The tour lasts a little under an hour and although you are lowered down 200ft via elevator this would not be an easy tour for those with disabilities. There is quite a bit of steep inclines and declines walking over fairly smooth paths which can be slippery if you are not sure-footed and you do end the tour going down about 2 flights of stairs at the end. Just something to keep in mind as you consider your group. We enjoyed our tour and would recommend it to others looking for something interesting to do off of highway 40/Route 66!

Yelp
What a cool cavern! Dino was a fantastic tour guide with seemingly limitless energy! There are major hills to get up (railing makes it easier) but we got winded and Dino just seemed like he was in his element! Thoroughly enjoyed the history and different formations. Don't be freaked out by initial appearances! When we walked into the front door (also a restaurant) there were inanimate characters at tables throughout the restaurant seating. Took me back to camping days with my parents in the 70s/80s. The family that runs the tour was VERY nice! Lots of great history about the Cavern with photos and even an extra large dinosaur saddle lol Our teens really enjoyed the tour and place too! When you pull off the road (Route 66), you'll need to follow the signs about going up the hill about a mile from the campstore. Just a really fun experience.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch today. I guess i had a holedifferent thought of what this place would be. I thought it was a cool underground restaurant, but it was just a hole in the wall. The service was very friendly, but they were out of strawberries for the cheesecake, the salad was pretty small and sad, the chocolate for the cheesecake tasted old, and chicken strips and fries were just ok. We opted to not do the tour and get a jump on heading back to tucson. There was a little gift shop and nice outside area that smelled so nicely of roses.

Yelp
Not only are the tours fun and interesting. But price wise for around $22 p/p with a triple a card is a steal of a deal to me. The tour is about 45/50 minutes long depending if your group has a lot of questions or not. The noon tour only had 4 people including me and my bf. It's about a third of a mile long with some incline and stairs, I def got my workout for the day (did you hear that Monica)!! On our tour there was an employee cleaning the cavern suite (room in the cavern 220 feet below), I asked our guide if we can get a closer look, he asked the other employee where he replied "yes"! So I got to pretend I rented out that $950 per night suite for about 3 mins haha. Insider tip, if you ask the day of and the suite is available, it'll cost you $750. I highly recommend cavern tours, even if it doesn't sound interesting, it really is! Natural creations of Mother Earth is beautiful. There's also a little diner/cafe right next to the gift shop that makes homemade desserts. Their chocolate mousse pie and carrot cake were damn good! We were a little iffy about eating there but when we asked about the desserts and they said all made in-house we were sold. So if you don't want to take a tour here and least come for a slice of pie!

Yelp
This review is for the Caverns Tour - our tour guide Dino was great! He deserves a 5/5 rating, he was entertaining and punny! But if I were to compare the Grand Canyon Caverns to other underground caverns I've been to, it's just not as impressive. The Cavern Tour lasts about 45 minutes to an hour and price is $25/adult. You take an elevator down about 200-300 ft. (~21 stories) below the surface. They have a few interesting tidbits along the tour (mummified Bobcat & Bat; 11-12 ft. Sloth; the cavern itself is a bunker from the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis with some leftover supplies; and there's been supposed "Paranormal Activity" was caught inside by the Ghost Adventures crew). I will say the Grand Canyon Caverns is not recommended for people with disabilities. The walkways are narrow, windy, and can be slippery, and various stairs going up and down winding through the cavern tour. There is only one elevator which takes you up & down into the Caverns. They do not enforce masks inside the restaurant/gift shop/caverns. I think my bf & I were the only two people in our tour group that wore masks throughout the entire tour. They've added some restaurant seating and a place for an overnight stay inside, but both of these seem gimmicky and contrived. All of the staff we encountered were nice and helpful with any questions we had. Overall, if you're wanting a pit stop along Route 66, then Grand Canyon Caverns may be an okay time. But I think there are better underground caverns around the country than this one.

Yelp
Grand Canyon Caverns is a fun, out of the way attraction located between Seligman and Peach Springs, Arizona on Route 66. There is a diner and gift shop above ground, as well as the new dining area in a grotto located down in the cavern. So this is a dry cavern and, as such, doesn't have some of the geologic features you might expect in a cavern (I.e. lots of stalactites/stalagmites, dripping water, etc). There are still lots of amazing natural features to see down there, as well as some interestingly curious man made things. Dino, our tour guide, was very informative and fun. Be forewarned that even the basic tour has a LOT of stairsteps and uphill and downhill walking. If you have mobility issues, you will want to take this into consideration before heading down. I would check this place out!
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
The ghost tour was fun. One girl in our tour got a picture of an apparition. Dino talks about Zac Bagens and Ghost adventures way yo much. I would rather she slowed down his speech, spoke up and gave us more history.

Yelp
I saw this place on Kara and Nate's travel blog and it did not disappoint! I love going off the beaten path to see things out of the ordinary, and this time I brought my parents along for the ride. The Cavern tour was great...cool rock formations and some other weird things scattered throughout. But the best experience happened overnight. We stayed in the cavern hotel suite. We listened to old records, played old board games, had some dinner, and enjoyed one of the best/quietest night's sleep we've ever had. Turning off all of the lights only lasted for a minute or two:) Reggie, Julie, and especially our attendant Don were super welcoming and made our night go smoothly. I would definitely recommend going outside of your comfort zone, embracing the quirkiness of everything Route 66 has to offer, and taking a road trip to Peach Springs!

Yelp
The camp sites here are great and very spacious! The bathrooms are surprisingly clean. Trash cans are easily accessible. Friendly staff. What's not to like? Dino gave us a wonderful tour of the underground caves, full of historical insight and cheeky humor. The tour is kid friendly, not at all claustrophobic like I thought it would be, and very enjoyable.

Yelp
I was here many years ago and can't remember much of it other than it was a nuclear fall out shelter in the event of a nuclear war. This is a dry cavern, meaning there is little or no moisture in this cavern system. I have been to many wet caverns in central California and they are more interesting with many stalactites and stalagmites. Each cavern also had it's own character. Some are long and narrow others are tall and wide. This cavern does have many rooms but they just look like piles of rock in it. I also went on the haunted tour and the harder they try the less convinced I was that there was as anything strange going on down there. The antics that they pulled were cheesy.

Yelp
Great camp/RV grounds! We had most of the place to ourselves but even during 'busy' season it's not crowded. Lots to see in the towns nearby, Seligman & Peach Springs (reservation). The tour of the under ground cavern/caves was awesome! Definitely wanna wear sneakers as it's a lot of walking with uneven stairs & inclines. They say take your time, but it gets your heart pumping with over 20% grades in spots. We are taking the tour/dinner at The Grotto pkg next time for sure! $50 includes the tour ($25) plus an entree, 2 adult drinks (non-alcoholic unlimited) and unlimited desserts! They also offer a ghost tour in the dark & explorer option for the adventurous folks, and even an overnight suite if you care to sleep 220ft below ground... since you cant get wifi or anything, they provide movies... The Decent is amongst the offered titles, LOL! Overall it was very relaxing & entertaining. Everyone was friendly & happy to have us there! Will be back soon!

Yelp
I really enjoyed this underground adventure. You have to drive back off the highway on a dirt road to find this place. You enter through a restaurant area to the back gift shop to buy your tickets. They have a gift shop to look through while you wait for the tour. They have frequent tours so you don't have to wait too long. The guide collects everyone and you get into an elevator that takes you down 210 feet below the surface into the caverns. They walk you around and explain the story behind the caverns and the history of findings and features. It was very interesting to see the unchanged conditions for so many years. They have the option to spend the night below for a hefty fee if you dare to brave the ghosts that haunt the caverns. It seems a bit canned and cheesy at times, but I thought it was worth the trip and would recommend for a fun day trip.

Yelp
We had a great Tour in the cave and a good lunch beforehand. Kinda scary getting to the cave entrance google map sent us down the the road past but we caught it and turned back.

Yelp
Sooo... accidentally ran across this when searching for things to do near the Grand Canyon (we were driving from Vegas to south rim). It was reasonably priced and we've never been in a cavern, so we added it to the list! From Vegas, it's 2.5 hours and in the middle of nowhere.. lol. When you arrive, signs are a little confusing, but just know.. you gotta drive down this long road past the hotel thing.. they need a big sign right there saying to drive ?? (whatever it is) mile down the road.. because we started to, but it seemed odd, so we turned around.. our 1st instinct was right. Once there, it's kinda hot waiting inside the gift shop/diner area, but there's lots of cool things to look at. The tour was supposed to be at 12, but we didn't get picked up until 12:15.. also, the receipt says to be there 15 min. early, but the check in is literally 1 min. of you saying that you're there. Soo, we had about 30 min. of waiting (not ideal). Our guide was DINO.. and HE was awesome!!! Tons of corny dad jokes, which we loved and very knowledgeable!! He did a great job of accommodating all of our needs.. I went from being first in line to last.. I'm not in the best of health and had to stop at times (fast heartbeat and shaky legs from the inclines), but he spoke loud enough that I could hear and at one point, he came to assist me with light on the stairs. The tour itself is cool.. we did the normal tour, which is the commercialized/touristy part of the cavern. Just the fact that we've never been that far underground was cool for us, but there's nothing really mind-blowing to see.. the history is interesting though! The only thing I was disappointed in was that I read in other reviews that the lights go off at some point for complete darkness, but that never happened on our tour. I would of liked to experience that. Overall, I like it.. I'm glad I went and I'd recommend to friends!! For the experience, I'm giving 4 stars. It doesn't get 5 simply because there's no repeat visit appeal and wouldn't necessarily be good enough to be the ONLY stop (2.5 hrs there and 2.5 hrs back)... but for anyone on a road trip, definitely make this a pit stop!!
google avatar

Kellee S.

Yelp
The Caverns are massive. We had a great experience and our guide David was completely knowledgeable about the Caverns. He is also passionate about what he does and the safety of his guests. The hike is a bit so be prepared, but well worth it. There is a short hike option which is great. We did eat lunch in the Grotto. I highly recommend long pants and at least a light weight jacket. The food was wonderful. It is definitely a memory.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Very disappointed called and left messages before we drove over an hour and a half. Looking forward to going into the cavern. When we pulled up very few cars there, only to go up to the door and find out that the elevator is out of service so it was closed. Nothing when you call and nothing on their website except that it is open everyday at 9:00am which was not true. Beware before you go out of your way to go there. Looks like a place that the elevator would be out of service. I guess it may of been a blessing since our family did not get stuck on the elevator.

Yelp
The cavern tour was my favorite part of visiting Arizona. Definitely recommend to anyone

Yelp
This place was so awesome!! I love caves & learned so much from this tour, my little 3 year old had a blast. I can't wait to come back & possibly stay at the cave.

Yelp
Worth the stop but not overwhelming. This is a DRY cave. At points you are over 350 feet underground. Elevator take you up and down to tour but you need to be ready to workout a bit. About 62 degrees so no jackets needed. Full tour is 50 minutes long and you WALK up and down in elevation. NOT FOR HANDICAPPED. Discounts for AAA, ARAP, OLD and military. Tour guild gave the spiel with little excitement.

Kay B.

Yelp
Where to begin. A few of us decided to take the short tour for $20 because of the uphill portion of the full tour that was described to us. Seriously, the tour lasted maybe 10 minutes. We were beyond disappointed with this choice. The rest of people took the long tour for $25. Biggest complaint was the tour guide, walked too fast, the group wasn't able to keep. Hello, short people take smaller steps. Because of this they missed information about the cave. Also, the guide was difficult to understand. This was not a pleasant trip for us.

Heidi M.

Yelp
GCC is a a trip you won't want to miss. Our family participated in two of the offered tours: The Ghost Walk and the standard tour. The Ghost Walk is offered once/night and the tour guide is Dino. Dino was wonderful! Not only is he knowledgeable about the caverns and history, he is a paranormal believer which made the tour very enjoyable. Dino guides you through the caverns with a tiny flashlight and a EVP to sense paranormal activity. It is DARK, and quiet, almost deafening. A couple of "jump scares" to keep you engaged. Well worth it. The standard tour is a bit longer than the Ghost Walk and offered every half hour during the day. We again enjoyed Dino's expertise during the day tour. There is another tour guide as well but we landed Dino again. He tells a lot of terrible jokes that add a bit of fun to the tour. During this tour we were able to see the small dinning room inside the caverns, The GC Grotto and the room you can rent that sleeps six people. At the end of the tour we had lunch up top at the Cavern Grille. The menu is a bit limited right now as they ramp up post-COVID, but our meal and the service was good. I would recommend this trip to anyone.

Yelp
Very Cool Stop! Do the Cavern Tour! It is astonishing. So much info, the Guides are amazingly well informed! The place is wonderful to wander. Gift shop is a little sparse, but Covid has hit everyone! Please support them!

Yelp
My son and i stayed here and did the ghost tour. We were the only people on the tour and had a great experience. The guide was enthusiastic as was my son and it was time well spent. A part of the charm is the remote location. The caves are unique and interesting, and we will be back.

Yelp
A very good, informative tour. Our guide, Reggie, was able to answer all of our questions, and his friendly personality made the tour even better.

David M.

Yelp
Our guide, Thad, was very friendly and gave us plenty of information on the cavern we entered. There was lots of time for photos and questions. Overall a very fun experience and I plan to go back in the future.

Yelp
Such an interesting out of the way place! I booked online and got the last tour of the night (wanted to do the night/ghost tour but covid made that a bust) we were lucky to have the tour guide (Dino) all to ourselves! The caverns are so cool and interesting and even a little punny. I wish we could've seen everything open (the restaurant and bar were closed (covid)) but everyone was wearing masks and friendly. Definitely recommend and worth the price!

Scott B.

Yelp
Arrived a little early for our tour. Sat down in the cafe and had an awesome lunch which consisted of BBQ pulled pork & BLT. Both were fresh and tasted great. Got to go on the tour 1/2 hr earlier than scheduled. Our tour guide Thad was very informative about how the caves were first found and all the history that took place here. We were in a small group of 10 which made it very comfortable and able for everyone to ask questions. Our tour lasted about an hour. Very cool place to visit, don't miss out.

Yelp
This was such an amazing experience. I found this hidden gem accidentally while going through yelp and finding stops along the way to the Grand Canyon. This particular venue is located on the historic Route 66. Upon looking at their site and reading reviews, I thought that this would be an interesting spot to check out. It's not really well marketed because I have not heard about this tourist destination yet, but it's been around for a very long time. There is lots of history behind it. We reserve lunch at the newly addition of the Cavern Grotto. Where you can choose to have lunch or dinner 210 ft below the surface in the Grand Canyon Cavern. Seating is very limited and reservation is highly recommended. The food serve during lunch was American diner inspired from burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The best Part was the all you can eat dessert bar which consists of special homemade pies, that were very delicious. The service was exceptional, our server (chris) was great company, he is also one of the tour guides and gave us information about the other tour provided such as the Wild tour, explorer tour, and the ghost tour. The reservation does include a standard tour which is about 45 minutes long, while other tours can range from a short 25 minutes to a more hands on exploration that can take up to a couple hours. The tour was very interesting, our guide (Mitchell) was very informative on the history of the caverns from the the first discovery to how it is now a tourist spot where you can spend a night in the cave in their one and only underground suite. Tip: during the tour get ready for some cardio with some inclines and stairs in this 45 minute tour. Overall it was a great experience, would definitely recommend to experience this with some friends and family.

Yelp
I've wanted to come here for a while but we had 3 of our grandkids last time we came to Williams. So, this time I made a reservation for a tour and my husband and I stopped on our way through on Friday. Dino was beyond amazing!!! So knowledgeable and was cracking jokes the whole time. I loved that we were the only ones on the tour. It was so cool and I learned so much. Truly an awesome experience!! Thanks so much Dino, you can tell you love what you do and you're great at it!

Yelp
Interesting & fun stop on the way to Grand Canyon. Kids also loved the Radiator Springs gas station. Worth the visit.

Brenda K.

Yelp
My son and I made this a destination on our way to Prescott from Kingman. Be aware this is a dry cavern, meaning no water. Therefore, there are no stalagmites or stalactites as you have seen in other caverns. However, it is still worthwhile to tour this huge cavern. Our guide David was knowledgeable and fun. The area is reasonably well-lit with concrete walkways and some stairs throughout. At one point the lights went out, leaving the caverns pitch black. We thought that was part of the tour, but as it turned out just a momentary outage that was very quickly repaired. Thankfully! Anyway, I recommend the tour. The gift shop had some items you might like, and the history is very interesting.

Yelp
Cavern tours...This place off Route 66 is a hidden place. I must confess I have driven past this place a time or two and decided to stop in a explore around. Well worth the stop. The rustic decor is a blast from the past. But take the tour, and explore all this place has. Fantastic tours to show you the beauty of this cavern. We did the "Ghost tour" great for a active fit family. We also did the "Wild Tour". (Must be fit). Overall this place offers a quiet, interesting experience. Great staff and tour guides!!! Bring your RV or tent and stay a night or 2. If you enjoy roadside wonders on Route 66 this is it. Something to see a marvel at and take pictures. the elevator ride that takes you into the depths of the Cavern, over 200 feet underground. 65 million years to create this place.

Yelp
I've lived in Arizona over 30 years and many years ago read about this place and planned to take my kids. Well.........I finally made it with my grandsons! I recommend not waiting -- go on a warm summer day when it's nice and cool down in the cavern! I wore a jacket but many were in short sleeve shirts. The temperature was around 62. You do enough walking to warm up. I was really pleasantly surprised with the service. First of all, I made reservations easily online and then I am delighted to say that everyone I met there was very friendly & helpful. Our tour guide was Dino and he is really spectacular! It seems to me that he knows everything there is to know about the cave -- gives great information and makes it fun with his jokes & puns -- all family friendly. Wear good walking shoes. If you get vertigo easily, are extremely afraid of heights and have significant vision impairment, I would not recommend going through the cavern. The walkways are well built and there is lighting, but the lighting is somewhat dim for those with vision issues. We ate lunch at the restaurant up top, next to the gift shop where you get your tickets. I don't know if it's always been this way, but right now you order & pay at the cash register and a sweet woman brings your food to your table. I was really impressed with the food, it was good! The restaurant is decorated very fun. I believe it's only open noon to 4. I could only see 2 people working the restaurant so I was impressed with the service & food -- we didn't wait long.

Yelp
This was an awesome tour! We were lucky and had Dino the tour guide all to ourselves. He was very knowledgeable and gave us all the history of the Caverns mixed with funny jokes the entire time. We did the standard tour and it took about an hour. There were a couple of places where you had to walk up an incline and some steps involved but it was not too strenuous. I would highly recommend it for everyone!

Yelp
Late review for July 2019 visit Good stop to get out of the heat for a while-we love caves so we couldn't pass up checking this cave out.  It's definitely one on the extreme side of being commercialized and not a living cave any more.  You take a elevator down, there is a restaurant in the cave, and one hotel room where you can stay for over $900 per night.  Our tour guide was friendly and tried his best but you can tell he was just reciting memorized script (sometimes he messes up on numbers and big words).  That said, it is an amazing cavern w some gigantic rooms and cool history.  $21 is a fair price for a 45 minute tour.  Their gift shop is a bit cheesy though.

Yelp
This was my second time visiting the Grand Canyon Caverns and it did not disappoint! We had a little meal prior to the tour at the grill where the cashier/waitress had the most beautiful, beaming smile. This alone sold the experience for me because when you visit a site like this and are greeted with a smile it just makes everything that much better. Our tour guide was Dino and he was HILARIOUS! His jokes were so funny and his energy was contagious. He was practically running up the ramps effortlessly making us work a little bit on the tour. This cavern is one of the 3rd largest dry caverns in the world and that alone was impressive. The cavern itself is so beautiful! Overall, such a fun time and I would highly recommend anyone visit. It is a little bit on the pricier side but for a family-run business I feel like it's worth it for the experience.

Yelp
We just took the tour with two families that, combined, have five children ages 4-8. We thoroughly enjoyed the 50 minute tour! Yes, jokes are corny and reminiscent of the Jungle Cruise tour at Disneyland, but the tour was full of historical information. Aspen was a great guide! There are some major inclines and lots of stairs but none of the kids in the group had any trouble. The entire tour is very well lit and the surfaces are. Or slippery. We loved seeing the mummified cat and the sloth. We plan to come back another time our travels lead us this way take the adventure tour.

Yelp
We visited the caverns with 4 kids, ages 6, 8, 10 & 11. We all enjoyed the tour very much. We did the regular 50 min tour ($21/adults, $14/kids, 5 and under free). Ask for the AAA discount or you can buy tickets online. The cave was 56 degrees, well paved paths to walk. There were some steep inclines but everyone was able to walk without complaint. You see many beautiful rocks, a mummified bob cat from 1850, a giant sloth that died in the caves many year ago, and bouquets from weddings that were still preserved.

Yelp
Last summer we were continuing our explorations on Route 66 in Seligman when we drove right past the Caverns. Neither my wife nor I had even heard about them. So, when we had time we booked a tour. They were very cool and the tour guide was very informative. The gift stores and restaurants were clean and neat. The clerks and salespeople were nice and friendly. We really enjoyed the tour.

Yelp
Loved everything about the tour! Such a cool and unique experience. For anyone that fantasizes about old rte 66 and wants to feel like they are part of a B Movie the grounds of the property will do just the trick. A step back in time to a lost era. Highly recommend this amazing experience!

Yelp
Took our family on the tour and had a wonderful time! Our tour guide Dino was a blast and gave us so much interesting information! Our young children really enjoyed, and it kept them engaged the whole time. So glad we did this as part of our family vacation!

Yelp
Been to a few Caverns. This one is a must see they have a restaurant in the caves. Must experience. Cost was $35? A person 4 course meal add$10 get the cavern tour. They also can host a group to stay the night inside the cavern or host events. They've held many weddings there. We arrived way early. They simply swapped our ticket time no questions asked. So accommodating. Let's talk about the "45" minute tour and our guide. 'Dino', the best guide we've ever had. 1st most tour guides are full or really lacking the skills and the tours usually end early or they stall to stretch the time. Nope not here. Our tour was packed with history, humor, laughs and a good time thanks to our spunky knowledgeable tour guide. I swear he said Dino was his name the 30 times he said. My husband swears it's Gino. I'm calling him the tour guide 'Gino the Dino'. Either way we gave him a large tip partially for the included comedy act we received but also our tour lasted almost 90 minutes. Amazing. Now to be honest the tour that started 30 min after caught up to us and no offense talk about feeling grateful we got Gino thee Dino cause Mr.monotone guide behind us was hating his day. He was boring. No offense mr. just ask for Gino( who's owner or related to owner)

Yelp
Took a trip here with my family and it was spectacular. I had been here in 2007 once before and it's just a great the second time around. I did the 45 minute, 3/4 mile underground cavern tour (Roughly $20 and some change per adult). Our tour guide was a really young chap named David who was very knowledgeable on all the aspects and history of the cavern. We had a really good time and although I brought my jacket to prepare for the 61 °F temperature of the cave, I found that I didn't need it after hoofing up a few uphill slopes. I got some pretty great photos in the process. The staff is rather friendly and accommodating within reason. I definitely would highly recommend this experience this venture for anyone and more so to any other geology junkies out there. "Cheers!"

Yelp
very cool spot off of historic route 66! everyone was very friendly and kind, especially Dino! Dino had a ton of great jokes about each of the spots on the tour. definitely a must do if you're driving the 66

Yelp
A "must see" on Route 66! A true step back in time when you pull into the main parking lot.... Lots of historical pieces spread about to enjoy and honor the heyday of times of the Mother Road! We took the regular cavern's tour and our guide, Tim, was knowledgeable and shared so much history of this spectacular place. The tour lasts about 50 minutes and the caverns are well illuminated to see and enjoy the various parts, with a paved walkway and handrails. There is some element of going up/down elevations, but the pace of the tour accommodated everyone, including photo stops. The grill is open from 12-4 daily and make sure to sit at a booth with a "special local guest"! We loved the historical magazines for sale in the gift shop and everywhere you looked, there was some sort of memorabilia to enjoy.

Yelp
Arriving this location looks like a "biggest ball of twine" exhibit. Ancient cars, a dilapidated mini golf course (or is it supposed to look like that?), dinosaur metal sculptures and jail and old west funny photo props. We had arrived a little early for our tour so had some fun taking pics around the property. Then, up the road to the cavern entrance shop, cafe and gathering area. Confusing because much of the facility is shut down (Covid19 restrictions), main door was locked & we had to wander a bit to find our way in to the building. A Monday afternoon, only 5 people in our group. A friendly young man, David, was our guide giving us information on the discovery and history of the Caverns. As noted, the paths are sometimes irregular, but lighting is good and we were pre-warned about tricky steps. The caves are massive and there is a room to reserve in the middle of a major chamber. A little off putting as the lighting and some displays are kinda commercial. But all in all, a fun activity off the beaten path.

Yelp
Super family friendly place! Easy walking standard tour and very knowledgeable tour guide. Family owned and run. Bottomless pie at the restaurant!
