"Kolb Studio Started by pioneer brothers Ellsworth and Emory Kolb, this artist’s studio along the South Rim is full of the duo’s engaging depictions of the Grand Canyon’s early tourism days—black-and-white photos of mule parties and raucous river floats included. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Kolb Studio hosts regular art exhibits in its auditorium, which are free to the public, and boasts spectacular views of the Grand Canyon itself. It’s open year round."

I’ve always wanted to visit the studio since learning about it in school. It was really cool getting to walk around the studio and learn about its history and see the old cameras. I went on a day where they didn’t have a tour or I would have wanted to spend more time. Great stop either before or after hiking a little bit of the Bright Angel Trail.

This shop is located along the foot path in Grand Canyon Village and offers a spectacular view of the canyon as well as a free exhibit, currently about the Kolb Brothers. It is open daily and offers lectures by Park Rangers on a variety of topics, but recommend you check their website for current hours of operation. Inside there are numerous informational boards and panels about the Grand Canyon.

It's a nice historical place that is nowadays a store where you can buy souvenirs. But first of all, the back deck has a gorgeous view of the Grand Canyon you won't want to miss! Also, there's a trail right next to the studio where will connect you to Bright Angel Trailhead that is leading you to the bottom of the canyon and down to Colorado River.

Passport Stamp here. It’s elusive but drop into the observation area and you’ll find the stamps.

I am not sure what the studio is meant for, but our tour guide asked us to enter this place to purchase souvenirs and snacks and told us that there were amazing views from the back of this place. Indeed, this was one of the most stunning closeups of the Grand Canyon. Also, there was access to the trail along the rim of the canyon that leads to a man-made arched entrance. The views were stunning. Make sure to walk along the face of the cliffs and not on the cliff side when the mules arrive from the opposite side. The gift center is simply amazing. The place is not accessible for wheelchair beyond a point.

Cozy and cute small giftshop next to the Bright Angel trailhead. You can buy gifts as well as national park passport stamp that’s their own. You can see amazing views of the canyon through the windows in the store as well. Parking might be tricky during busy hours as it’s also at the Bright Angel lodge.

I picked up some National Park merch and checked out their museum. Well worth the stop. Also was quite taken by their fireplace.

Yelp
Awesome studio! We stumbled upon this place after one of our hikes on the way up near Hopi house. A nice place to shop and browse their art collection that is focused around the Grand Canyon (of course). There's a gift shop here that is very cute and has a lot of fun little mementos, great staff, and you can stamp your national parks passport here too! Would recommend coming here if you're in the area!

Yelp
Such a cool, historic building. Take some time to watch the little video and see the old photography equipment in the little side room off of the store to learn about the Kolb Brothers. You can also look at the paintings for sale, it's fun to see all the different styles. Buy some books and learn some more about the amazing history of the park! All the gift shops are similar but this one has some more cool stickers and postcards/little art printings than other ones.

Yelp
I really enjoyed coming here and learning about the history of the Kolb brothers and their photography business here at the Grand Canyon. Emery C. Kolb and Ellsworth L. Kolb arrived at the canyon in 1902 and documented their journey on the Colorado River. They had this building constructed not too long after and it served as their home and as a photography studio. National Park Service acquitted it in the 70's and turned it into a museum, book store, and gift shop. The museum pays a nice tribute to the Kolb brothers. It has many of their old cameras and photography equipment on display. There is also a boat that was used on the Colorado river. Kolb Brother Studio is situated on the edge of the South Rim. Just outside the studio is the start of Bright Angel Trail. Back in the day, the Kolb brothers would photograph people on the trail and then sell them the photographs when they came back. Die-hard photographers will really enjoy visiting this exhibit.

Yelp
Loved this stop. Gift shop upstairs but the gallery is beautiful spent a lot of time looking at brush strokes, colors, attention to detail on how other folks captured the Grand Canyon with ease. Highly enjoyed this art studio recommend you make this a stop it's right around the trail of the south rim!

Yelp
This is more of a gift shop than art gallery. The downstairs has memorabilia and historical information. Some landscape painting were on display. It would have been nice to see some of the brothers' work. It is a hop skip away from the Bright Angel trailhead. Nice canyon views.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here as we were making all the stops in the Grand Canyon. Most have the same merchandise for purchase. This stop was cool to see the old cameras.

Yelp
An interesting museum to visit for a quick, free, 20 minute stop. Little-known history about the park, as well as good history info for photography enthusiasts.

Yelp
The Kolb Brothers are legendary when it comes to documenting the Grand Canyon. I am a fan of the Studio, since it shows all the history of the Kolb family and what adventures they went through. The art exhibits shown are beautiful. The house itself is pretty amazing, considering it was built in the early 1900s. The history behind the whole house and family is so intriguing. You'll want to spend a good time in there just exploring. Also you can buy nice little souvenirs upon entering. Don't forget to walk to the outside viewing area. Gives a great view of the Canyon rim!

Yelp
Wow such beautiful art!!! It was very nice learning about the Kolb brothers and how they are known for the amazing they have done about the Grand Canyon around the world.

Yelp
Great stop on the Southern Rim! I never knew the history of the Kolb brothers and now I can't stop learning about them! I loved the gallery downstairs, it told the story of the Kolb brothers, their influence on the park and their incredible pictures. The staff is knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions! It is a must see on the Rim!

Yelp
Neat little stop on our tour of the Southern Rim. Free admission to the studio exhibit in the downstairs is totally worth the time.

Yelp
Tiny and perfectly cute, with a great view over the canyon -- but WTH? There is not ONE SINGLE Kolb photograph actually here. A sign indicates that the entire lot is in an Arizona archive and is available online. That said, couldn't they at least provide a dedicated terminal so visitors could see at least some of the brothers' work? Seems really silly to advertise this as a Kolb museum when it's sort of missing the essential element....

Yelp
Small building with two viewing decks for guests to enjoy the view from the Village area. It has both exhibits as well as a small souvenir shop type store. While a neat stop, not necessarily a must-go.
