"This sprawling 298-room property in Williams, Arizona, is most frequently booked by visitors taking the Grand Canyon Railway to the South Rim, about an hour’s drive north. But it’s also an excellent option for those who don’t necessarily need to stay inside the park—or who simply prefer less rustic accommodations and amenities (like an indoor pool and hot tub). All the rooms here were recently refurbished and are relatively spacious, including bathrooms; even the standard rooms have two double beds, as well as free internet, air-conditioning, and microwaves and mini-fridges. The impressive lobby was designed in keeping with the nearby historic Fray Marcos Hotel and Williams Depot buildings, lending a cozy frontier vibe, anda roaring fire in the large flagstone fireplace greets guests in the winter. There’s a restaurant and pub on the premises, but you’re just steps from Historic Route 66 as it runs through downtown, with plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from."

Giving this hotel 2 stars overall—though I want to be fair and say the service and location were excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is ideal if you're taking the train. The train station itself has plenty of parking and is managed separately from the hotel. That said, the hotel itself just isn't worth the price. Several things were broken or poorly maintained. There was no hot water the first night, and on the second night, around 1 a.m., the AC stopped working, turning our room into a sweat box. Not exactly the kind of experience you expect at this price point. The pool was dirty and so heavily chlorinated it burned your eyes just walking by. The hot tub looked like a science experiment gone wrong—definitely not something you'd want to step into. On top of that, the hotel food was overpriced and underwhelming. Bottom line: the location is great, but do yourself a favor—book a better hotel nearby and just drive in for the train. You’ll be far more comfortable and save yourself the frustration.

We bought a package experience that included the train ride, bus tour, 4 meals, and 2 nights stay. This review is for the hotel only. The train ride is a 5 star, bus tour a 4 star, and meals a 1 star. The hotel is convenient, front desk staff was fantastic and our room was quiet. It was older, worn, not real clean looking, and kind of had that older stale smell. Beds need replaced and bathrooms are clean but are showing their age. You are paying for an "experience". I did not use the pool or hot tub, too crowded with kids. Very large hotel for size of pool. Game "room" is a stretch and the air hockey "ate" my dollar.

It was a delight to celebrate my birthday here. What a great experience it was to ride on the train to the Grand Canyon. The ride was so much fun! Once we got to our lodge, I was so glad that the staff took care of our luggage and put in our room. Such great service and everyone should do this at least once! Thank you for the great memories!

I highly recommend a stay at the GC Railway and Hotel. We also took the train ride to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon which is a most convenient way to visit the Grand Canyon if your time is limited. The trip on the rail car was a bit cheesy but a lot of fun. The railway car host provided fun facts and jokes. The over 2-hour ride went by fast. The hotel is well maintained, and the rooms are spacious with excellent amenities.

We scheduled this trip to celebrate my friend's 60th birthday. What an experience! The staff was wonderful, the hotel was beautiful, Spenser's Bar was cool, and the train ride was fantastic! We bought tickets for the Luxury Dome Car (all adults in our party) and had the best time on both legs of the journey. Besides the drink service, they served delicious snacks during the whole ride. Also had just the right amount of time at the Grand Canyon. HIGHLY recommend staying at the hotel and taking the train ride!

This is a great experience. If you are traveling Rt 66 and haven't seen the Grand Canyon, you must do this. The cool part of this experience is that you can see the National Park Wonder and not spend a ton of money. The Hotel is fine, we had the 2 night package. Good pool and hot tub. Room was quite adequate. The restaurant part of the package was really disappointing, but that's not why you stay here. The train ride is great. We weren't traveling with children but the train ride and entire package seemed very kid friendly.

Very pleasant overall experience at the Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel ! We arrived in the late afternoon and the checking was fast and efficient even with our group reservation. They just missed the fact that we also had a train ticket and so we had to go back in line later for getting it. The room was excellent: quiet, modern, spacious and very well maintained, clearly it shows ! The parking was plentiful at the back of the hotel and it was properly lighted at night. The next day, before getting on the train to Grand Canyon, we got a breakfast at Fred Harvey's and there was a bit of confusion for our access which was resolved pretty quickly. That breakfast was very nice : spacious room and plenty of food with a lot of variety including build to order omelet ! For dinner, we could walk to the town and enjoy a very nice pizza at Station 66. As for the hotel surroundings : they are functional and kinda minimalistic, it mainly the train station. All in all, I can recommend this hotel.

The Grand Canyon Hotel has nice rooms with very comfortable beds and pillows. The meals at the Fred Harvey Restaurant were good with lots of options to choose from (it's a buffet-style meal). The scenery for the train ride is mostly flat and desert-like. We did see cows and a couple prong horns during our return trip. ||||The train staff works hard to keep everyone entertained. We were sitting in a Luxury Dome car, which is very comfortable and provides an excellent vantage point for viewing the landscape.
