"The Grand Galvez Hotel and Spa, nicknamed the Queen of the Gulf, is the only historic beachfront hotel on the Texas Gulf Coast. It originally opened in 1911 and was recently renovated to restore its original Gatsby-like splendor. The hotel features a pool, spa, and beach cruisers for guests."

We really enjoyed our stay at Grand Galvez. The hotel is beautiful, especially with the recent updates. The location is convenient and the amenities were very helpful. Our only issue was with the pet policy. We called ahead to confirm they accepted pets and were simply told, “yes.” I had to ask if there were any fees or restrictions and was only told there was a $150 fee. That was the entire conversation. When we arrived, the front desk told us pets were not allowed, only service animals. When we explained we had called ahead, they then said pets are accepted but must be under 15 pounds. This was frustrating since we had driven hours and had confirmed in advance. The manager did make an exception for us, but better communication about the pet policy is definitely needed. Other than that, our stay was great. The hotel is beautiful and the atmosphere was wonderful.

This review is ONLY about the brunch. We spent almost $600 (including tip) to take my mom for her birthday. It was NOT worth the money at all. The meats were all dry. The food was unseasoned and flavorless. The waiter was very nice but was more focused on bigger tables so we had to keep grabbing him to ask for refills. The dessert table looked amazing but the desserts were not good. Except for the bread pudding which was very good. They say that there is a dress code but people were dining in shorts and tank tops and flip flops. From what we saw, the hotel is beautiful. But the brunch is NOT worth the money. Not even close. Very disappointing experience.

I have stayed at many properties in Galveston over the years, but this was my favorite experience. The elegance of the hotel, mixed with the family-friendly pool and hot tub, along with its perfect location along the beach, made for a wonderful getaway. From the moment I arrived, the front desk service was some of the best I have ever received. The gentleman who checked me in was welcoming and checked for an upgrade based on my Marriott status. He provided free breakfast vouchers which we made good use of this morning. The hotel's design is superior to anything I have experienced in Galveston. The features of the hotel, established in 1911, are immaculate. The beach chairs across the street with umbrellas are a great luxury while the kids enjoy the sand and water. A few steps away from the hotel is a historic restaurant with many national awards. The seafood there was terrific. It is called Miller's. I cannot wait to go back for another quick trip getaway. We loved our entire experience.

We loved our stay here! All of the renovations are really nicely done. We had a lot of fun at the pool and the pool waitress - Delaina - provided probably the best poolside service we've ever had. We never waited long for a drink and we found conversation with her to be uplifting and entertaining. We look forward to returning here the next time we visit Galveston.

Positive: We stayed in a king bed size room. I was very pleased by the size of the room. Comfortable bed. Great massage at spa. Beautiful hotel and grounds. Great location. The hotel was very accommodating by allowing us to get in our room at 2pm on arrival. Negative: The espresso maker wasn?t working in the room.

Loved staying at this historic hotel. The lobby, dining, and pool were all 10/10. I stayed here for my birthday and loved it. The rooms are a little smaller than other resorts I have stayed at, but it makes sense considering when it was originally constructed rooms were smaller than current typical hotel rooms. I will say the room was very nice with updated fixtures etc. Did it feel a little bit haunted? Maybe, but that’s part of the fun. I really like learning about the history of Galveston so it was nice staying here.

Google
Hotel with a twist. There is a ghost story behind it, and there is a room you should never book, I think it is on the fifth floor. The hotel is exquisite: it is across the road from the beach and the entertainment park. Great food and atmosphere. If I come to Galviston again, I will stay in this hotel. Stayed here 3 times already.

We recently stayed here for Memorial Day weekend. We wanted a quick trip to Galveston with direct beach access. Galvez delivered! The hotel is historic as it’s been built since 1911, it has been renovated but still keeps its old time charm. They have a private beach area that they have chairs and umbrellas set up for hotel guests. Also, they have a decent sized pool if you’re tired of the waves. They have plenty of wash off stations for your sandy feet before entering back on the property. Inside it is super classy from the hallways to the chandeliers. The rooms are small but what do you expect from a building over 100 years old. For as many times as I’ve been to Galveston this hotel made it feel like somewhere else. Highly recommend just for the location and convenience. It is also walking distance to pleasure pier.

Yelp
I'm not sure about the 2.9 stars, but Im guessing that it's because of some older reviews. Here's the deal: The Grand Galvez is not only the Queen of the Gulf, it's the Queen of All Inns -- and worthy of every star that one could give. We came for a night to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Funny thing, our plans eventually took us to Fiji; then we decided on a cruise out of Miami; and finally, we thought that hanging out here and playing cribbage would be totally worthy of a 30-year celebration. This place is decked out. Period. From the crown molding to the fabric wallpaper and accoutrements throughout. It has been around for a long time (even has a historical marker), and it is as swanky as any Ritz Carlton or Grand Kempinksi I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. In addition to the nice digs, the service is spectacular. Sure, it's not cheap. But it's worth every penny, and then some.

Yelp
This is a beautiful property. Definitely the place for gorgeous wedding photos. It is off season, so it was very quiet, the pool bar was closed, and the restaurant menu was pared down a bit. The property is historic Galveston, over 100 years old, but nicely refreshed, and now part of the Marriott BonVoy group. It is a bit pricey, so I would probably save this for a special occasion. We really enjoyed our stay, and I will absolutely come back "in season" and see what the place is like when everything is lively and open.

Yelp
We stayed here for one night anniversary trip just to get away. The hotel staff was kind, the decor and interior design is so fun! We spent the day at the pool. We were there in a week day in August so not super busy, but the weather was great and there was a ton of seating. There is a swim up bar at the pool. Our room was quaint and beautiful. Just what we needed for a one night stay. We had dinner at the restaurant downstairs and enjoyed our meals and had cocktails at the bar after. Those places is located across from the seawall so a two minute walk will have you at the beach!

Yelp
I've never stayed at the Grand Galvez, but I have been inside prior to the remodel. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The lobby is elegant and chic. Our room was standard size, but we had a great view of the water. We came down for Mardi Gras, but due to the weather, we did not get to attend our party or parades. Because the hotel had a nice bar and restaurant, we tried both. The drinks were good at the bar, and I loved the red chandeliers. We ordered the fried green tomatoes at the bar. They were large and good. The restaurant was also enjoyable. We had the Grand Galvez oysters as an appetizer, and I had the grilled shrimp arugula salad. We will be back again!

Robert C.

Yelp
Stayed here doing Mardi Gras and enjoyed it immensely. Went to the bar and had some wonderful drinks and also tried out the restaurant that had great options. The decor in the entire hotel is modern but gives recognition to the history of the location. The room was beautiful and very clean. Had a great view of the ocean and would definitely stay again!

Aruni G.

Yelp
I did not stay at the Grand Galvaz so I can't rate the rooms or service, but I did visit the hotel bar this past weekend so this review is for the bar. The lobby of the hotel was gorgeous! The bar was well situated off the lobby with a partial view from cloudy/dirty windows to the ocean. I ordered one of my favorite cocktails (The Last Word) and an appetizer recommended by the bartenders of fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were some of the best friend green tomatoes with well paired sauce that I've ever had. So good! The cocktail was not so perfect. I'm not sure the bartender was that practiced in making it because the taste was a bit off and she first put a lime slice instead of a maraschino cherry that they usually are made with, but it was drinkable. If I ever find myself back in Galveston, I would definitely go order those fried green tomatoes again!

Kelli G.

Yelp
Love love love the Grand Galvez! The Grand Galvez is absolutely stunning and the attention to detail is stellar. The lobby of the hotel and Peacock Alley simply transport you back in time! We had a wonderful quick getaway and could not have been happier with our choice. It was such a pleasant surprise! If you're a fan of Chinoiserie, like I am, you'll find the rooms and fabric wall paper swoon worthy! The hotel is meticulously maintained and our room was wonderful--overlooking the ocean. We loved relaxing by the pool and enjoying frosty beverages at the swim up bar. The pink and white chaise lounges and umbrellas are so cute! We ordered a delicious poolside lunch that was light & refreshing. Additionally, there are beautiful pink and white loungers and umbrellas across the street at their private beach area. You'll even find servers bringing food & drinks to your oceanfront loungers. We enjoyed morning coffee made by their barista, Ethan. Ethan was so incredibly friendly, polite and professional. We enjoyed our morning chat with him and appreciated his recommendations. He is such a hardworker! There is an adorable gift shop onsite and there I met Kelly. Kelly was very friendly and she showed me all of the adorable items for my granddaughters and fur babies! They have a great inventory of gift items, clothing and accessories. I even got the cutest dish towel with the Grand Galvez on it to commemorate our trip. Kelly shared with me the brief history of the hotel and it prompted me to take a look at the book in our room. Such a rich history. Incredibly interesting. The service overall was outstanding. So many staff members stopped what they were doing to open the door for me & wish me a good day. I lost count how many times that happened. It's just so rare to find nowadays. We'll definitely be back! The Grand Galvez is a gem and I hope to bring back my children and grandchildren. I can't wait to try Sunday Brunch & High Tea!

Courtney Ann R.

Yelp
The grand Galvez's high tea was everything I wanted and more! From the beginning we had amazing service from Heaven, she was very attentive but not overwhelmingly so. The amount of food provided was a perfect light lunch with a beautiful view. I can't wait to come back with my nieces when they're in town. I highly recommend for a elevated girls day!

D L.

Yelp
A friend and I stayed here for a girls weekend. She is a Marriott Elite member. Upon arriving they advise you it is valet parking only at $35/night. I use a cane so that is ok. We asked if there was a cart for our stuff and the valet guy said yeah i don't know its been real busy today. I spied one and told my friend and valet guy heard and sauntered over to get it. The hotel is just gorgeous! Lots of history and very well maintained. We stopped in the bar for a drink and it was lovely. Beautiful decor. We decided to try their restaurant for dinner and the food and service was good. Not as vibey as the bar but nice. Room was great and Im in love with the shower head system! So enjoyable. Beds are comfy and housekeeping was timely every day if we needed more coffee etc. They have weddings here and hallway is often noisy from kids running and yelling. Its a beach town so you are going to get that. We used the hot tub and lounged awhile. The pool area is very nice. The location is so convenient for going to local sights and restaurants. Valet after our first night was very good - timely, professional etc. All in all a nice stay and would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Fabulous decor and truly lux feel. Will be back again when in Galveston. We had the king bed, city view and the autograph collection makes it upscale indeed.

Kayla N.

Yelp
I have visited the Grand Galvez/ Hotel Galvez many times over the past 15 years for a variety of reasons. My family enjoys the Sunday brunch here on occasion (more specifically the holiday brunch) and I have also stayed at the hotel for a retreat as well as to attend an event. The hotel has changed significantly over the years in numerous ways but is always beautiful nonetheless. I did prefer the exterior of the hotel being tan rather than pink but understand the intention was to bring it back to it's original state. One change I do love is that it went from being a Wyndham property to a Marriott property. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable which is always a plus. As for the brunch... I think the brunch is a nice one but that it isn't quite what it used to be. Based on my observations from the most recent Christmas Brunch, I believe the selection of food items is not as elevated and the quality also seems to have gone down a bit. Regardless of the food, the service and presentation was great as always. I look forward to more visits to the Galvez and hope to see continued improvement!

A C.

Yelp
Fantazzy. If you're not staying on the quiet west end, but opt for the city vibe on the island, Galvez is the way to go. This historic setting is top-rate. The pool is nicely tucked away and perhaps the best public poolside reading and tanning in the Galveston-Houston region in the warmer months. Close to downtown if you want to venture off campus, though you really have everything you need here.

Yelp
Wow, what an amazing hotel. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great when we went but we still had so much fun inside the restaurants and bar! It is walking distance to the beach and Millers which is great place to get breakfast. The hotel has so much history as it was built in 1911 and is known to be haunted! Luckily we did not have any ghost encounters . The hotel room has the best lighting I've ever had at a hotel and the staff was very friendly and professional! Their smoked old fashioned is what will keep us coming back whenever we come to Galveston

Cristina B.

Yelp
This hotel is a jaw dropper! Inside and out! It sits right on the beach! The most elegant and beautifully designed interior +aesthetic! The unique and beautiful chandeliers throughout the hotel are such beautiful details! We stopped in to tour the hotel because it's historic and it's so worth it! I don't know if I'd stay here because apparently it's haunted...yikes (lol). They also do ghost tours which obviously I was not interested in but it's an option for brave souls visiting haha! Highly highly recommend stopping by for a self guided tour!

Robert S.

Yelp
Great hotel, across the beach. Marriott affiliated so I got benefits for being Elite (free breakfast, ocean view room upgrade). Built in the 1800's, reminds me of the Hotel Del Coronado...elegant, stately, welcoming and classic. Padded walls, beautiful wood, huge chandeliers, professionally dressed staff, southern charm. Great price! Great service. Great location. Wonderful bed, showers.

Wade W.

Yelp
Love the beautiful restored architecture! The bathrooms are modern and updated with all the amenities you would expect from a Marriot convoy. Staff are super friendly and very helpful

Vince B.

Yelp
We stayed at the Grand Galvez for our Anniversary. June 28 to July 2, 2024. We had a pleasant stay the hotel was lovely and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The view was great, the pool was nice, the food was excellent and the facilities were clean. Special mention to: Catherine for the welcome cake. Princess at the front desk, she was a treat to talk to and made us feel at home. Kylee at the beach worked hard and was nice to let us stay and use the seats a few minutes after her shift ended. Zol and Enja were nice to us at the pool, my wife has a medical condition (stroke) & needed drinking water at all times and they allowed her to keep her water flask, in contrast, other attendants insisted we use a plastic cup. Overall a memorable experience. It has nothing to with the hotel but hopefully, they can do something about the noise coming from the cars outside.

Lauren P.

Yelp
Stay here when I come to Galveston for a hurricane training drill. The Galvez has a rich history, comfy beds, yummy food and quick room service. The bar had really fun cocktails themed on hotel lore. Not just a hotel. Part of an experience.

Kay B.

Yelp
I've stayed here since the 70s however this is the first time since Marriott. I love the lobby floor plan changes and details. Enjoyed 3 meals from the restaurant and the poolside delivered club sandwich was 5 star easily. Excellent coffee bar and great valet in and out service. Learned about the discontinued shuttle to the cruise port only after arriving. A wedding party of Aggies was loud until after midnight kept my husband's awake. Despite the loud wedding party noise will be back.

BJ N.

Yelp
The hotel itself is beautiful. The chandeliers are awesome. Love the bits of history on the walls. I wasn't a fan of the bathroom shower not having a door, the whole floor got soaked. Coming out of the shower the step out is Long. I almost fell coming out. No pressure in the water, it look forever to wash my hair. The shampoo, conditioner & body wash dispenser sucked. It look 5 pumps to get a few drops of anything out. It was annoying. The hotel room itself is super small. I was very surprised how the bed took up 95% of the room. The lighting was bad, trying to put on your makeup with inproper lighting was kinda lame. I had to move the chair to the window to see anything. The fridge was so tiny you can't keep leftover food at all. Only bottles of water. I didn't realize, so when we got back to the hotel my leftovers had to sit out all night & went bad by the morning. Also, there was no microwave in the room, so I couldn't heat up my food later on to eat it. So it just went bad. That was a $15 meal wasted. The guy in the lobby checking us in & the info online says "free WiFi", "free bike riding" & other amenities. We did use the wifi & went swimming. However didn't get to use the gym, yoga, bike riding or anything else. We were surprised to see there was an $40 fee added this morning (the next day). When we called to see what the fee was for. The manager said it was for using the amenities. We said .. well the amenities they told us about were the FREE ones. We didn't get a message or do anything that required fees. He said there's a $40 fee for the amenities, such as WiFi & pool" etc etc. we said ... " So then those were NOT FREE amenities..... Those were $40. We didn't even get to use the bikes or the beach chairs or yoga.... But we still got charged?" He said yes.... It's a fee" "So it's not free, there is a fee? " He said " it's free, you just pay for the services like taxes". We said ..." So we PAID for the FREE services? He said " yes". We can afford the $40. It's the principal of it. If there's a FEE just add it in our original bill/payment. Don't add it later. Because even if we didn't use the "paid/free" services, we still got charged. If we had known that, we would have made time to take advantage of the services we were getting billed for. Plus the manager was totally gaslighting us making us look/sound dumb. But as far as I know, FREE services don't charge $40. ‍ Just add it into the bill.

Ruben S.

Yelp
I liked it but didn't see 1 ghost the entire time. I won't deduct a star for that, but I brought a ouija board outside of room 501 and a full black cloak. Nada. No sightings. Just kidding, I didn't do that part. Anyway, the drinks were great, music was great, and everyone was pleasant.

Helen R.

Yelp
Warning: Bed bugs. As a native Houstonian I've always wanted to stay at the Grand Galvez every time I visit Galveston. Me and my husband thought it'd be nice to stay here for our first wedding anniversary. The building and everything inside is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Customer service was good as well. Check in/out was quick and easy. I have a habit of checking the room thoroughly before setting anything down because of terrified of taking bed bugs home (I worked in apts and know how much of pest it is to get rid of). It was absolutely disappointing to have found a bed bug as soon as I lifted the sheet of the bed. I inspected further and found another bedbug. When I told the front desk person they didn't really have much of a reaction and offered us another room. First room was 221. We were then moved to room 526 where I didn't find any critter activity...until the morning. I found another bed bug in the sink of the restroom. Thankfully we didn't have any bites on us but this is unacceptable as we paid a good amount for a good quality stay. This is very gross and I hope they work on pest control. Out of respect I will not post the picture of the critters.

Yelp
Galveston as a whole is Texas' version of"trying" to be a beach a Texas version of south beach in Miami and it simply isn't wont ever be and is not of the same caliber by any stretch. Once you know this then you set the bar accordingly. This hotel is pretty, good location, some food is reasonably priced and has good service for the most part. Spa and weight room are good too. Poo area food is good and relatively reasonably priced. Mixed drinks are way under sized for the price. Cons and there are many in my book as a platinum member I have seen-a few hotels in my time and resorts. Resort has very few amenities. Way undersized pool, beach services are so so first come first serve on umbrellas. Most hotels and with platinum and titanium members offer you those services and you go to the top of the list . Rooms are very small. Both elevators do not always work. Valet is a disaster call down and waited 20 min after my 20 min wait time i was told. No concierge. Their idea of an upgrade is an ocean view versus the hotel pool. Huh???? Room to suite maybe some better than that. Wait and i put in my "upgrade" request inline was denied. I get there and ask in person and the clerk says i have no idea why they denied you with your status and our availability. Then why my denial. Just disappointed for what this Place looks like to what you get are two very different versions. Cost to benefit ratio simply not there. Also was told numerous other high end marriott members have complained about no lounge either. They know they have problems but i don't think ownership is ponying up the money to make more changes after the expense of the 2020 redo.

Owen H.

Yelp
So far the stay has been underwelming. We are traveling with an infant and they put us in a loud room near the elevator. So they then moved us by the roof top AC units which did not solve the problem. The website says there is self parking but there is not only valet. And many of the rooms have terrible views. We are Marriott Platinum and did not get upgraded or treated well. The water pressure is horrible, the toilet seat was broken, and the towels smell like fried chicken. After a few days of being here I would not recommend especially not more than two nights.

Nancy G.

Yelp
I have been going to the Hotel Galvez holiday brunches for about 20 years. Over the years the options have not changed much (nothing gluten-free, for example), but the price has increased about 264%. It now costs $129.89 per adult for the holiday brunch. Actually, I do not mind the price. It's just that at that price they should at least have one gluten-free option at each station since so many people have gluten allergies and sensitivities. I have made a request during the Easter Brunch, but no changes thus far. I am going to start looking for alternatives to the Galvez.

Arlene L.

Yelp
Elegant and comfortable venue. The food was delicious. The fresh mini cornbread muffins were a special treat as the meal was prepared. The free valet parking, the gulf view from our beautifully decorated booth made the visit so special. Arlene Levine

Yelp
This hotel is nice and the location relative to the beach is excellent. However, the service is extremely disappointing. The restaurant, when it's open, is very slow. By the time they bring you cream for your coffee, the coffee is cold. We left after an hour of not receiving our food. The hotel staff seems extremely bothered anytime to ask them for something. The AC in the room hardly cools it down. The pool area was not well kept or cleaned and the bar service was extremely slow during their limited ours. During the week, they did not place any seating out at the beach and the coffee shop was closed. There is no sunrises or snack shop. UPDATE: management contacted us and did an excellent job providing extras to make up for the issues. Still kinda ruined the experience; however, they did sincerely apologize

Yelp
Great weekend at the enchanted and enchanting Hotel Galvez. Service, rooms, and pools are amazing. Loved indulging at the spa. So relaxing to sit in a comfy wicker chair under a warm blanket afterwards with a cup of tea. Pool is kept at a toasty 82 degrees, so that you can take a dip in cooler months. Not surprising that The Galvez was referred to as "The Playground of the Southwest" mostly for the wealthy socialites, businessmen, and celebrities, including American Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Lyndon B. Johnson, who have visited. Savor the flavors of the South at one of Texas' Best Brunches on Sunday. Sample the seafood and salad stations, eggs benedict, pasta bar, and soups and gumbos. Save room for their key lime pie and bread pudding. Interesting to visit and learn the history of this "haunted" hotel. Take a tour to learn the tragic tale of the ghost bride, Audra, and others. In the 1950's, Audra was engaged to a mariner who sailed out of The Port of Galveston. She would eagerly anticipate his return frequenting the west turret where she could get a better view of the Gulf of Mexico. When a storm hit the Gulf Coast, his boat was destroyed, and it was thought that the mariner was lost at sea. Audra could not believe that her true love perished and faithfully visited the turret praying that he would return. Grief-stricken, she eventually hung herself from the turret. A month later, her loving sailor returned with plans to marry her and instead was met with the most dreadful news. You can borrow an EMF meter from the front desk to hunt for paranormal activity--Thanks to Betty and Quentin for loaning us theirs and ex"changing" stories. Seven-eleven-2 pennies and a nickel/2 nickels and a penny! Great stay at the historic Hotel Galvez.

Damara W.

Yelp
Beautiful Property! Fabulous pool! Decor is on point! Restaurant is lovely with awesome shrimp and grits and red snapper. Everything is new, fresh, tropical, opulent- just perfect!

April L.

Yelp
What a major transformation this place has made over the last few years. I am so happy we decided to go back. If you haven't been here in awhile you're missing out.

Juan F S.

Yelp
Visiting my sister in Houston, came over for breakfast(not brunch) at the Galvez. Expecting 5 star breakfast service and food. I wa s disappointed, my omelttete was prepared short order/western type folder and burned edges, not " "chef" prepared. Our server was not helpful, affable or knowkedgable about menu, maybe not having a good morning. Best feature is historic nature. Probably will not breakfast here again. Breakfast for 3 inluding tip $120.

Yelp
October 15, 2022 Dropped in around 330p and it was hopping on a Saturday with weddings or wedding receptions going on everywhere. I've lived here almost 10 years and the makeover to this 111 year old hotel is beyond fabulous. This hotel deserves to be called, "grand" and the new owners have spared no expense to bring the "Queen of the Gulf" back to life. We sat at the bar and had Arnold Palmer's and Shirley Temples! It was just the old skool vibe we were feeling. The entire hotel has been renovated inside and out with replication of some of the times back in 1911. It's so authentic to the lifestyles of the rich and famous of the 1900's; I'm in LOVE with the changes. This bar will now be on my HH radar!

Ken W.

Yelp
Hotel staff is noticeably bias if you have "priority " I stood in line to check in and was there before anyone , but a "preferred " client bumped me. The same treatment happened at the bar later. I'm nobody , and the bartenders ignored me for twenty minutes.a guy , more interested in programming music and a gal , more interested in closing the booze There was maybe 10 people in the bar and it was a Friday but I could tell they just wanted to go home. I did get my drink but it felt like I was an Asshole for ordering it. It was an hour and a half before they closed. So I was told. But they closed early. I will not go back. And the wifi was awful. I had a very important file to send and it could not send. Fyi.

Yelp
So let me start off and say we did not stay at this hotel, we attempted to make a reservation and were left on hold after asking a few questions for over 10 minutes. We rented a beach house down the road and from my experience today I would absolutely say that we made the right choice in staying else where. Today we arrived at our long awaited spa day which we had been looking forward to for the past week. The only reason this review is not one or zero stars is the AMAZING massages and pedicures we received from the staff at the spa. Then the visit began to quickly spiral... it turns out the sauna, and steam room have been broken for almost half a year even though. When my associate called to book, they assured her it was functional. From there the teenager who was working the front desk of the spa, began to have an attitude and was extremely rude and condescending when I asked about why we were mislead. Thank God for Kim who is working at the front desk l intervened, and was able to change the tenor of the conversation. The spa manager eventually arrived and again told us that we must have ''miss-herd' their staff, even going as far as saying "we do have it so that is technically correct". Outrageous. Also the spa has clearly not been renovated unlike the rest of this hotel. Then we went out to the pool to find all of the chair soaking wet, unflipped, and not one staff member in sight. This was after the manager (a frantic, bald British gentlemen who seemed panicked about everything) at the desk assured us the pool was open. The outdoor bar was closed, the towel shack was shuttered, and it looked like a ghost land. Again the pool clearly was not included in the renovation. After the disappointment at the pool we went to the inside bar only to find that they were out of glassware and unable to make our drinks properly. The food has taken forever and I'm writing this as I STILL am waiting to eat. This place has 5 star potential but Hampton inn level service. Such a shame the new owners could care less about hospitality and only want a pretty exterior...

Yelp
The new remodel is beautiful and the bar staff is top notch! As locals we love coming here for a cocktail and people watching. This night we also dined in the restaurant, which was great. The portions were plentiful and the service was good. Wine had a great selection without too much of a markup. It was nice that there were some people in there dressed up to go out, and some very casual. Come as you are and still get nice food and great service!

Yelp
Had the most amazing experience this weekend at the bar ! Lois and Aston were so friendly and helpful . The bar got seriously busy both Friday night and Saturday but they kept up with the busy and remained helpful and extremely friendly !

Yelp
This review is based solely on their Founders Bar in the lobby. We stopped by for a cocktail because I love the aesthetic of the lobby area in the Grand Galvez hotel. The swanky Founders Bar gives off a luxurious feel. The espresso martini was also delicious and carefully crafted. The bartender though, was not personable. She didn't even greet us- just walked over and kind of shouted a "we've got a couple people ahead of you". It didn't feel welcoming at all and didn't set the right vibe. She then basically forgot about us. Not sure I'd go back.

Yelp
Our stay at The Grand Galvez ended the same way it started - unimpressively. As mentioned earlier, it is the attention to detail is what was missing for every aspect of the stay. The staff are not trained for delivering a 4 or 5 star experience. The hotel didn't offer in room coffee / food room service. The only option for coffee was brewed coffee (in pump style thermoses) set up on a desk area in the lobby. The cosmetics inside the guest rooms was very poor. Everywhere you looked, it was run down, rusted, stained, etc. Basically, The Grand Galvez is a 2.5-3 star hotel experience. The pictures tell the story about the aesthetics, and the service, or lack there of, tells the rest of the story.

Yelp
I'm a native Galvestonian. Any time I receive the opportunity to patronize a historical landmark, I will. There was a time I absolutely loved the brunch at Hotel Galvez. This time around proved to be an epic fail. The new design is sexy and attractive. I love it. However, the younger staff didn't seem to care much about the brand and or the "customer first" experience. I ordered a lemon drop from the brunch bar, which was delivered maybe 20 minutes after we sat down to eat. No sugar, no garnish, just a throw together cocktail. We begin to enjoy the brunch, but when I got to the omelet station to request two eggs over medium, the lady told me I couldn't have fresh eggs because they only serve box of eggs. I inquired as to if a guest wants fresh unprocessed eggs why could we not have them and she said it was an inconvenience to the staff to have to go get fresh eggs when they could use a carton. Please work on your customer service. When we transitioned to the bar, the drinks were excellent and the female server "Sara" was awesome! However when we ordered bar bites, the fresh oysters came out smelling like the "Return of the living dead." They were warm, appeared to have been sitting out for god knows how long and a dark brown color. These oysters were spoiled! The guy who delivered them shrugged his shoulders. Be careful Grand Galvez. If your food temps aren't right and you're re-serving old food, you can cause serious medical harm to your customers.

Yelp
Did someone say bottomless mimosas? If you're still looking for somewhere to celebrate Easter Sunday Brunch then the trip down to The Grand Galvez is worth it. bottomless mimosas fresh seafood the oysters and crab legs are perfection eggs Benedict cooked perfectly plenty of desserts to choose from (we we're definitely a fan of their cheese cake) amazing steaks and a pasta bar with flavors that smell and taste amazing Make your reservations soon if you don't want a wait or if you have a large party. I only recommend the best and that we've actually tried for y'all so you know we won't steer you wrong 2024 Seawall Blvd, Galveston, TX 77550 #htxbrunch #galvestonisland #brunch #htxmama #thewoodlandstx #thewoodlandsmoms

Yelp
We went to have a cocktail for our 9th Anniversary. The service was excellent, the drinks are amazing. I had a Cabaret wine and my husband had two old fashioned cocktails. One was smoked the 2nd was not. My only complaint is the bar ware has water spots on the glasses. It's very unprofessional for higher craft cocktails. I expect the wine and cocktail glasses to be clear as glass should be.

Yelp
Joris was a terrible manager. We usually love staying at the Grand but our last stay was a nightmare. We booked an expensive room but after we went to sleep the A/C started making screeching noses. At first we thought it was the pipes and we hoped it would stop. It didn't. Finally at 4:30 am after not sleeping all night we took a recording down and they gave us a different room. But this room was much smaller and we were exhausted. Instead of comping us something, Joris just gave us the run around. Do not stay here is he is still the manager.

Yelp
Stopped by for an after dinner drink. We have always been fans of the Galvez, the upgrades that have been done are fabulous, glorious and beautiful. I had a 1900 storm cocktail that was reminiscent of a Caribbean vacation, service was on point and the optics are unbelievable. I could see in my minds eye the grandeur of this majestic beauty and her early day of opulence, now done up in current day. They also have a most fabulous brunch on the weekends. Dickens on the Strand would be a great time time to stay!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at the Grand Galvez in Galvaston for one night in November 2022. It is a beautiful restored hotel which was billt in 1911. The interior of the hotel is beautiful with the many unique chandeliers through out the property. There is a beautiful pool and hot tub which were closed for the season so we didn't get a chance to try them out. We had prior dinner reservations so didn't get to eat in any of the restaurants. Our room was very well appointed with king size bed and large wall mounted TV. The bathroom had a nice walk in shower and had been updated to all the modern features. We did get to visit the bar which has a good cocktail menu with moderately priced drinks. There are also a number of historical photos and historical items on display. If you like to enjoy the grandeur of days gone by this is a great place to stay.

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights in Feb. when we arrive, we were told the pool is under renovation and is closed. Our room is nice. the bed is super comfortable, the bathroom shower is super fancy with double shower head, and also 4 different massage shower head. It's fun to operating the shower and have water running to you via all different direction. We tried one breakfast at the hotel, the breakfast is sophisticated but it takes long time even there is only 3 table of customers! The valet parking is okay, but the text message thing is not working, most of time they don't receive your text message. Overall, our stay is nice and comfortable.

Yelp
We were breath taken by the beauty of The Grand Galvez when we drove by, while we were on vacation. To the point that we wanted to experience staying the Galvez ourselves! We loved to see employees at an establishment like this, being genuinely happy to be there for this makes a huge difference in the overall atmosphere and experience. Also, the kitchen, the cafe and the bar are all fabulous. Miss Rocio M., the front of house manager, made sure to go above and beyond to make our stay absolutely spectacular. She is an outstanding hospitality manager, so be sure to meet her if you book your stay! It's important to know that their reservations sector of the company changed to Marriott very recently, that this resort is owned by a family whom cares deeply about the over all brand and vision of this iconic and historical landmark. Jan, Dana, and Tiffany at the front desk, Ryan, Chris and all the valet team members also made my whole family feel like the Galvez was a second home. They helped us with anything we needed with a warm, and friendly smile. Last but not least, the SPA! We were truly so impressed for they had even exceeded our expectations. Kim is the front desk manager, and is truly a complete pleasure to book with. We experienced the Deep Tissue Massage with arnica, The Ruby Slippers pedicure, gel manicure, and a rejuvenating facial. We HIGHLY recommend staying at the Galvez if you're looking for a relaxing, and beautiful place to stay on Galveston Island. It's located the Seawall, facing the Gulf, (steps from the beach) with manicured gardens and fountains. It's a dream, we will be visiting our friends at the Galvez for many years to come.

Yelp
This place was so interesting with a mix of modern art, speakeasy vibes in the lounge with a tropical twist in the hotel restaurant area. our room was a bit small. I expected something bigger and a bit up to date for what i paid for but the rest of the hotel made up for it since we spent most of our time hanging out in the lobby and eating in the restaurant/Spa and pool area. They even provide you complementary bikes if you enjoy taking a joy ride along the seawall. there are only about five bikes, so I recommend reserving them around 10 AM. By the time we got back from our bike ride, they were all taken so we're lucky we got to reserve them early.. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Yelp
We just got done with a stay for our 13th wedding anniversary. Valet line wasn't long. Our requested remolded room was much later then we hoped for. 6pm check in for us. check in is at 4pm. Not all of the rooms are remodeled. The remolded common areas of the hotel are gorgeous Old Elevators are decent time wise. Rooms are small, there was no art work or anything on the walls. Just white walls. The bathrooms are tiny, no tubs. Outlets not working but plenty of charging stations. They do have room service. The bed was somewhat comfortable. No coffee machine in room. Stayed on floor 6. We did have neighbors with extremely loud music and bass up until 12pm. Until we called down and complained. No ghosts sighting or any kind of energy. We even went to the 5th floor and room 501. If you know you know. None of the employees really cared about the lore or wanted to tell us about the lore of the hotel which was disappointing. Everyone seemed tired of their job. Pool time-the pool area is smaller. The pool is small. Not an updated area. Not many umbrellas at all. People were waiting for seats. Do not leave your food because of seagulls and birds. The pool was crowded. The bar is for 21 and up. It was a great time. Drinks were really good, food was great. Atmosphere was lovely. Spa- spa is small but full service. I went for a massage and facial. Relaxation room was nice. Steam room was tiny. I got really talkative massage person and facial person. The cost is about what you would expect from a resort. I would probably next time just for the mani pedi. Dinner for our anniversary. The service was great. The food was great. There was really no people in there. We had it to ourself. Coffee bar closes early. But free reg coffee In the afternoon in the lobby. The little gift shop was closed the whole time, which was a bummer. There is no gift shop for food, drinks etc. We really didn't get a big to do about our anniversary which wasn't greatest. Sometimes you just want a little something special. That was not the case there. Overall, nice stay. Despite some minor inconveniences.

Yelp
Popped into the bar for a final cocktail. The hotel is currently decorated for Christmas and lots of good photo ops. Drinks were tasty and service was decent, but once it picked up be prepared to wait with only two bartenders working the seated guests and those sitting at the bar.
