I recently stayed at the Grand Hotel Alassio returning after a pleasant previous stay last September. While I continue to appreciate the hotel’s prime location, good service, and overall ambiance, I must express my disappointment regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of our room—particularly the bathroom.
Upon arrival, we found the shower in our room in an unacceptable condition for a 5-star hotel. The tiles and grout were covered in black mold and grime, giving the impression that they had not been thoroughly cleaned for quite some time. I apologize for the strong wording, but the state of the shower was genuinely unhygienic and deeply disappointing. I have pictures documenting the condition, just so you don't think that I’m exaggerating.
In addition, the shower drain was completely clogged. Within minutes of use, water began to accumulate to the point where it was nearly overflowing, making it impossible to shower without flooding the bathroom.
We reported the matter to reception, and thankfully the cleaning staff was sent to address the issue the following day. While the condition of the shower improved significantly after their visit, the drain issue was not resolved until 5 p.m. the next day, and a few follow-ups were required.
Unfortunately, the cleanliness issues extended beyond the bathroom. The room floor was sandy and dusty upon arrival, and throughout our stay it remained in the same condition—making it uncomfortable to walk barefoot. It appeared the floors were not cleaned daily, if at all.
Given the room rate of €667 per night, I had much higher expectations for cleanliness and maintenance. I genuinely enjoy the hotel’s atmosphere and location, but this experience left me uncertain about whether I would choose to return.
I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as I believe the Grand Hotel Alassio has great potential to deliver an excellent experience when these basic standards are met.
