Extremely Disappointing Experience – Subpar Service and Mismanagement
I booked a stay at the Grand Amarth Kurhus Hotel in Scheveningen with high expectations, given its reputation and location, but my experience was profoundly disappointing.
First, the communication prior to arrival was misleading. I confirmed my room over the phone, yet upon checking in at 14:00, I was unable to access the room I was promised. The discrepancy between what was communicated and the actual service provided was alarming.
The staff handling my situation were unprofessional and, at times, downright disrespectful. One staff member, a heavier-set woman whose name I did not catch, stood behind the receptionist making fun of my situation. The person assigned to assist me was passive-aggressive, which only heightened my discomfort. I did not feel safe or respected at any point.
Parking arrangements were another source of frustration. I was promised a spot upon arrival, yet none was available. The pricing was inconsistent, and the behavior of the staff managing parking left me questioning their honesty. This was an unacceptable start to what should have been a pleasant visit.
Additionally, the in-room service was deeply disappointing. On January 1st at 17:09, I called for paracetamol due to a severe headache. The person answering the call was rude, insisting I come downstairs myself, despite explaining my inability to leave the room. After insisting, she agreed to bring it—yet it never arrived. I had to call again an hour later before someone finally delivered three tablets.
I have stayed in multiple 4- and 5-star hotels worldwide, and I can unequivocally say this experience was the worst. While I appreciate the historical significance of the property, the staff’s conduct falls far below any standard of professionalism or hospitality. The external appearance of the hotel is deceptive; the service inside is chaotic and inconsiderate.
In short, this is a “look can be deceiving” situation. The Grand Amarth Kurhus may have charm in its architecture, but the staff, communication, and overall service are severely lacking. I cannot, in good faith, recommend this hotel. The staff also acts like there uneducated when it comes to hospitality and services.
