It’s in a great location, some great architectural features inside... beyond that expect a roof over your head and not a lot more! ||Ok so it’s not dirty so add that as a positive! ||It has character - the dining room is amazing - not the food or staff but the the room! ||During my stay it felt more like a back packers hostel than a hotel based on clientele.||Bedroom was actually a good size, bed was like sleeping on dry grass - kinda hard but not quite wooden! The room walls were paper thin and the french speaker in the room next door enjoyed a variety of dance tracks between phone calls and some online videos that weren’t pop music I’d guess! ||The truth is this place is cheap - very cheap and it’s far from great but honestly at around €40 a night it’s not costing much more than a campsite so I’d actually stay again just for the fun of it all! ||All reception staff were helpful, dining staff at breakfast served no useful purpose and offered no guidance on - for example - where cutlery is, what food choices were etc - instead just asked your room number then go chat! Busy doing nothing personified! ||Go do it - you’ll never forget it!! ||

We stayed at this hotel over the weekend. We had booked two rooms and arrived just after midnight. On arrival at the hotel, the front doors to the hotel were locked. We kept knocking and knocking and no one came to advise us to use the back door. On phoning the hotel, we were advised to use the back door. A simple sign on the door would suffice. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful. One of our rooms on the 4th floor had been refurbished and was lovely but the other room we were given to the back of the hotel on the 3rd floor, was very clean, basic and functionable. Sockets were loose and light bulbs missing, the mattresses were very uncomfortable. Unfortunately we were not aware that part of the hotel at the back, was a nightclub till all the loud loud music started, the room 350, vibrated and there was no getting away from the noise. At 4 a.m we couldnt take the noise any longer and went to reception. Luckily the receptionist found us a room on the first floor towards the front of the hotel. The hotel is set in a beautiful location and as its title must have once been GRAND.

The hotel is located in the centre of the town in an old building with history of 3 centuries, and was opened in 1699 as a hotel with 4 rooms. The name of the hotel can be translated as Golden Bull. Then it was completed with additional rooms. The service is good. The hall of the hotel is designed with old-fashioned furniture. Breakfast is served in a beautiful ballroom. But the furniture in the rooms is old (not antique) and design of the rooms is very simple although there's everything you need. It is equipped with floor air conditioner. The bathroom and wc are repaired and redesigned.

Great location on Kossuth Lajos Ter. Large rooms. Clean. However, very old (communist era) furnishings and bathroom fixtures. No air conditioning and noisy at night with windows open. Public areas have been cheaply renovated and furnished with disregard for the historical nature of the building. Breakfast just OK, no fruit or yoghurt or fresh baking. Hotel staff are helpful but somewhat disengaged.

Room with great view looking out over Christmas market. Basic but warm and comfortable. Fascinating old building. Good buffet lunch and adequate breakfast. Friendly staff. City centre location is superb with proximity to trams, shops, market and public buildings.

I read reviews of this hotel before I can so I knew what to expect. Honestly I stayed here because it's a former communist hotel and I was interested the building and its surroundings. The hotel itself doesn't seem like it's been updated for 30 years or more, I had holes in the doors of my room and most of the furnishings were broken or bashed in some way. However my room was huge, I had a small kitchenette in the (although I didn't use it) and it was very clean. The breakfast was terrible, not much choice, watered down juice and coffee machine that didn't work properly. Staff were polite when I dealt with them but I only used this hotel to sleep and shower. It's the most central hotel you will find and is perfect for exploring. Near plenty shops/restaurants etc ...

We've booked a room for 2 nights but left after the first night. The Hotel has a good reputation but what we experience left us speechless. In the first room we couldn't flush the toilet. Then we got a new room : The amount of dirt everywhere, the rusty sink , the wallpaper that was falling down, the cracked windows and doors... It was cold in our room and in the whole building. The worst accomodation we've ever had. Never going back and would not recommend to anyone.. Just check the photos below

From the beginning, you can see that the hotel maintenance is overwhelmed. The front door of the room is cracked and the lock doesn't work well. When you enter, the light switch must be pushed with force, otherwise you can't start the light. The room is somewhat clean, but the walls need to be painted again. The mattress was too hard, so I couldn't sleep very well. The bath curtain doesn't stop the water so the walls are always wet (and you can see the walls are affected badly). The rooms are not soundproof, so you can hear anything from the neighboring rooms and from the street. If you are a light sleeper, I can't recommend this hotel. I'm giving 1 star because the breakfast was ok, otherwise I wouldn't give any.
