How to Plan a Trip to Parma, Italy

"Set about a 15-minute walk from the historic center in the Barilla Center renovated by Renzo Piano, Grand Hotel de la Ville is one of Parma’s few five-star properties; floor-to-ceiling windows, neutral tones, and sleek furnishings by Mies Van Der Rohe create a sophisticated stay." - Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz is a writer and editor based in Rome. Great stay at Grand Hotel De La Ville in Parma - excellent location, inexpensive, large rooms, walk to old-town. But the best feature is their incredible service - Stefano at the front desk and Alaya the doorman | bellman went above and beyond. I don't think I've ever experienced the level of service Stefano extended to us during our stay. Onsite parking is also a huge plus. My only comments for improvement at the hotel :The room I was in, while massive, did not have a coffee machine | espresso machine for morning - and the shower for whatever reason didn't have a "shelf" in it so you had to put everything on the floor during your shower, which was quite awkward. Additionally the internet was painfully slow, which may have been due to the location of my room. Overall, if you're in Parma, it's a great spot to stay.

Stayed for two nights on a business trip with six colleagues. Hotel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, great breakfast and friendly staff, especially the fantastic barman who looked after us and made us any cocktail we required!|Hotel was an easy walk ito the centre of parma. Around 15/20min walk with shops and retaurants on the way.|Would definitely stay again.

In Parma, we have also stayed at Parizzi Suites. My review, to compare, can be found on TripAdvisor.||Pros:|- Location: (Walking) San Giovanni Evangelista (14mins), Piazza Garibaldi (15mins), Battistero (16mins), Cattedrale (16mins), Teatro Regio (19mins).|- Bathroom amenities: Soap bar, shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, vanity kit, shower cap, shoe sponge, tissues, slippers, hairdryer (1600w).|- Free in-room WiFi (good speeds, approx. 91Mbps).|- In-room safe large enough for a laptop.|- Excellent sound-proofing.|- Friendly and helpful staff.||Cons:|- The hotel provides a comfortable stay, but the overall experience aligns more with a 4-star standard rather than a true 5-star in terms of amenities and service.|- Breakfast was quite limited. The only hot options were scrambled eggs and bacon.|- In-room amenities were sparse—no kettle, tea, or coffee, and only paper cups instead of glass or ceramic. Bathrobes were also absent.|- Laundry service is restricted to basic items and is only available on weekdays, with no dry cleaning option (i.e. no suits/dresses).|- The room’s lighting controls were unnecessarily complex and difficult to navigate.|- The shower temperature fluctuated unpredictably, alternating between hot and cold randomly.

Nice hotel designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano. The hotel is practical, offers a nice buffet breakfast, is reachable by foot from interesting Parma monuments, and good restaurants. My room was very quiet and one could make it completely dark.

I stay here regularly for work and the location to city center, numerous restaurants, and the galleria is fantastic, as well as it’s right across from the supermarket. The hotel restaurant is delicious as well.Breakfast is adequate - very standard options for Italian hotels and they will make your coffee request on demand. The staff makes this place - the bartenders and front desk staff and maintenance are all top notch. They go above and beyond to help you feel at home, resolve issues and help with recommendations. Kudos to Marcello and Fulbio! The rooms and bathrooms are nice size for Italy. Bedding is a bit firm for my taste and pillows thin but that is a personal preference. Overall love this hotel and especially the staff! Highly recommend!

My visit at the Grand Hotel de la Ville was wonderful. I slept very well. The room was clean and quiet. Breakfast at the hotel was excellent. The staff were top notch. I wish every hotel I stayed at was as fine as this one. This was my first time in Parma, and I don't know if I will be back. But if I return, this is the hotel I would want to stay at.
