A very nice hotel with very attentive and friendly staff. The 'night time' service where they bring you chocolates before bed was a lovely touch. One member of staff that really stood out to us was Xiying, who we talked to in the little gift shop by reception. She was very friendly and lovely, shared information about how and where the Maltese glass is made. She was very helpful. We felt welcome as soon as we stepped through the front doors, with the smiling staff bringing us welcome drinks. The hotel is huge, very clean everywhere. The rooms could have been a bit bigger as well as the balcony but still very nice and I understand this isn't something that can be changed easily so not too much of a complaint. The private beach was nice however cannot be walked on without shoes, so maybe could fill it with actual sand instead of stones. All round great place great breakfast great service.

We stayed here for two nights at the end of a cruise. The staff and hotel are excellent. We have some challenging dietary needs but this was no problem for the food and beverage team and the chef prepared lovely meals for us in the Tiki restaurant overlooking the bay. ||The room was a good size and comfortable. ||Breakfast was buffet style and very good. ||We booked a 4 hour private taxi tour from the hotel desk - this too was excellent. ||We will be back thank you.

This is our third stay at the hotel and as usual we were more than happy with everything. We would just like to comment on the changes which were evident since our last stay.|Firstly the taxi service from and to the airport. This was a god send. The driver was waiting for us and was a pleasant conversationalist on the journey.|Secondly, the changes to the Tiki Village, or rather the removal of it and replacing it with the Blue Ocean Bar. A superb setting with the music each evening.|A big thank you for reserving our chosen room.|We must mention the shuttle bus which is an absolute dream for those of us not as agile as we used to be. It didn't persuade us to go into the city more often but encouraged us to return to the hotel earlier, especially with the entertainment now on offer.|Special special mention to Julieth and Murad at the Blue Ocean, such a pleasant pair. And a stay at the hotel would not be the same without Jordan's cheerful help from arriving to leaving.

An Incredible Stay at the Grand Hotel Excelsior! From start to finish, my experience at the Grand Hotel Excelsior was nothing short of exceptional. The hotel itself is stunning, offering beautiful views of the harbour, elegant old world décor, and a range of top-notch amenities that made my stay truly memorable. A special mention goes to Irina at reception. She welcomed me with a warm smile and made the check-in process seamless and efficient. Throughout my stay, she was incredibly helpful, providing excellent recommendations and always going above and beyond to ensure my comfort. Her professionalism and kindness truly set the tone for my visit. Additionally, I want to thank Godwin, the hotel’s driver. He was not only friendly and courteous but also incredibly knowledgeable about the local area, making my transfers both pleasant and informative. His impeccable service added a personal touch to my trip, and I appreciated his promptness and attention to detail. Overall, the Grand Hotel Excelsior offers a luxurious experience with outstanding service. I will definitely return and recommend it to anyone visiting Malta. Thank you to the entire team for making my stay so special!

We are currently staying at The Grand Hotel Excelsior for our wedding anniversary and I really wish we had stayed elsewhere in Malta. The location is amazing, the bed is comfortable and room has everything we would want but the massive negative is the smoking situation on the balconies. We are staying in a deluxe sea view room but the balconies are unusable if you are a non smoker and your neighbours smoke. There balconies don't have dividing screens so the smoke drifts onto the adjacent balconies and into the rooms. We have been visiting Malta for many years and this is the first time we've stayed in a room with these open style balconies. We're very upset as this has spoiled our holiday and I'm sure it has spoiled other guests holidays too as the only guests who seem to be enjoying the premium balconies appear to be the selfish people chain smoking. Smoking is also allowed in the outdoor restaurants and next to the pool, so you could be eating lunch and someone starts smoking at the next table. It's the first time I've been on holiday where I can't wait to get home. It's not the wedding anniversary I would have wanted. The next time we stay in Malta it won't be here.

A beautiful hotel very near Valletta. There is a car that can take you up most of the way (up to the pedestrianised section) and is free. The partial sea view was amazing and spending our late evenings on the balcony was a real highlight. So calm and peaceful. A little slice of heaven! There are 2 pools, one indoor and one outdoor and a small beach section where you can swim in the sea. There are servers on hand to get your drinks orders in as well as a snacks area and 2 restaurants outside. We didn't dine inside but based on the rest of the hotel I'd say the quality would be excellent! Breakfast is a little hectic in a morning, you have to ask a few times for coffee, but that shouldn't ruin the service provided in every other area. I requested information about boat tours around Malta and these were emailed me to by the concierge a few days prior to us checking in. We were early to check in and our room wasn't quite ready. This was no problem as we were given access to the pools and so we grabbed some things from our cases and spent time soaking up the sun as we waited. The staff at the front desk were exemplary. We loved our stay, the perfect end to our honeymoon/anniversary. Would definitely come again to this grand hotel. Thank you.

Date of stay 11-09/18-09,From the outside this Hotel looks very tired could do with a spruce up. Inside the Entrance / Reception area is impressive, checking in was very smooth the staff very welcoming and helpful especially the Concierge Heathcliff. The room was spacious large king size bed, bathroom separate shower and bath, balcony with a view of Msida Yacht Marina and a sun trap during the day. Had a walk about the first afternoon there getting our bearings and ended up at the Newly Opened Cake Shop and talking to Mr Grixti the Hotel Manager who told Us a little about the History of the Hotel and Valletta itself very proud of His Hotel. Dining at the Hotel wasn't in our opinion of a 5 Star Hotel Standard. The Breakfast Buffet was quite large and had plenty of options but the service staff seemed a bit confused at times to who should be doing what ie serving/ clearing. The Dinner service on a night the food was either luke warm or under cooked. The Harbour View Bar was a nice quite place to relax and have a drink and chill out and We probably had Our best cooked Meal there.

We stayed at the Excelsior for 3 nights. The center of Valetta is only 10 minutes away from the hotel, and countless restaurants and bars are within walking distance in the evenings. The “partial ocean view” room is directly above a hotel garage exit overlooking a dumpster. At night there was unrest caused by employees coming/going on motorbikes or minibuses. (see pictures). The room's furnishings look like they're from the 80s - everything is old and there's an unpleasant smell. Breakfast buffet with a long queue as only one indoor floor is available for breakfast. One floor above there is an entire empty floor that could also be used for breakfast. There is no breakfast outside at all. Omelette is recommended, it is prepared with love and dedication, if desired fresh eggs are used and not a ready-made mix - very good. Orange juice, on the other hand, is bad, it is sugar water and not 100% juice. Where can you expect that if not in a 5 star hotel? Our recommendation: Better to have breakfast in a restaurant or cafe nearby than in the hotel. Pool area basically very nice and spacious, water very clean. There is enough space under the sun tents, even in the shade. The loungers at the pool are inadequate and unworthy of a 5 star hotel. A large part of it is already sagging, you are not only uncomfortable but also painfully lying with your backside on the frame of the lounger because the covering of the sun loungers is already sagging. There was no topper because the weather was supposedly too bad. But that's not true, there was sunshine all day, 26 degrees and not a drop of rain. Apparently the toppers are too much effort - good service is decided right here and not at the reception! You only get one towel per guest. The whole thing is an imposition. Also a nuisance are the pigeons and other birds that search for food by the pool. See pictures - terrace in the pool area stained and dirty, there doesn't seem to be any regular cleaning here. We would under no circumstances stay here again and can only recommend alternative 5* hotels in the St. Julian's district that offer a completely different overnight experience. An Uber/Bolt/Taxi doesn't cost much and you can get to Valetta quickly from there.
