Grand Hotel Français (Ex. Best Western)

Staff were incredible, breakfast was incredible, lovely fresh food, and a great selection of anything you could want. The bar was a gorgeous space with the most inventive fresh alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails, brilliant bartender. Great location close to everything and a tram just around the corner. Room was very comfortable, everything one needed. All in all exceeded all expectations

Ideally located on a quiet safe street in the very center of Bordeaux, with everything within a 15 minute walk, and close to tram A. Friendly service, and a nice bar in the lobby. Our room was fine despite facing the inner part of the building, which made it a little dark. Bathroom fixtures need some maintenance (shaving mirror hanging loose, shower heads clogged with limescale, missing sink stopper), but overall a nice hotel.

Clean, well maintained hotel in a pretty period building, positioned well for restaurants and main tourist attractions, but on a quiet side street. Staff spoke good English and were helpful. Breakfast was very good for a 3* hotel. Our room was very small, but that might just be a reflection of Bordeaux being an expensive city and us choosing a cheaper room.

Our first visit to Bordeaux was truly unforgettable, and this hotel played a significant role in making our experience exceptional. The location is absolutely perfect—conveniently situated near key attractions, restaurants, and public transportation, making it easy to explore the city. The hotel itself is impeccably maintained, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness and comfort, ensuring a welcoming and relaxing stay. However, what truly set this hotel apart was the outstanding service from the front desk staff. From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to make us feel at home. A special mention goes to the wonderful team member who works the overnight shift. She was incredibly helpful and kind, assisting us in the early morning hours with directions to the train station. Her guidance and warm hospitality made a real difference, and we truly appreciated her effort. Overall, our stay exceeded expectations, and we highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bordeaux. We would definitely return!

Laundry facilities are NOT available at this hotel as advertised. And bring your own tea bags if you want to be properly caffeinated at breakfast. Coffee drinkers would never put up with decaf or flavoured coffee as the only options in the morning. Earl Gray, Green Tea or herbal teas are not proper breakfast choices!!!

Our stay at Grand Hotel Francais was fantastic. The staff were very friendly, the hotel was very clean and quiet. Additionaly the location was great. The staff made some excellent recommendations for restaurants. We would absolutely stay here again if we ever come back to Bordeaux.

The hotel is situated near all main attractions in Bordeaux yet it is very quiet in the evening both in and outside. The staff was super helpful and efficient. The hotel was good value for our vacation.

The hotel is conveniently located and the staff are very accommodating. We requested that there be no fragrance used prior to our stay due to a fragrance allergy. The bed linens had no scent, and with the window open the lingering fragrances on the floor from prior stays was mostly eliminated. The rooms were clean and the building is beautifully maintained, too.

Le Grand Hotel is just that, an old, quaint French hotel, straight out of H E Bates A breath of French air with a scowling maid in the morning, who will actually do anything for you but will complain about doing it all the time! This is NOT a Hilton or a Marriott, you cannot pick up your mail from the TV set in the room or watch an adult movie! It's what it is. Le Grand Hotel. They've been doing things their way for a long time, and they hope you like it, if not........they'll give you a typical French shrug and wave you goodbye! That said, the bed was downy soft, the sheets crisp and spotless, the bathroom straight out of a black and white 30's movie and the 12 feet high french doors open straight out onto small balconies overlooking a facinating street with a genuine patissiere directly opposite. The elevator in itself is an experience with the concertina grill and an almighty thud on take off! The breakfast was bread, bread and more bread, cheese, ham, croissants and coffee together with foiled wrapped butter and plastic pots of jam. Don't go here if you want efficiency, but the hotel is next to everything Bayonne has to offer; fantastic riverside restaurants and walks, shopping, churches, and great open air markets with the local Basques passionately singing their lungs out. Oh don't take your vegetarian teenager to the markets ......plenty of live lunches on sale and skinned rabbits hanging everywhere! Go with a sense of adventure.......or book into the Ibis!
