Grand Hotel Majestic già Baglioni (Bologna, Italy) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Set in an 18th-century palazzo in Bologna’s historic center, the Grand Hotel Majestic già Baglioni is the grand dame of the city's hotel scene. It’s the oldest in town, with a storied past on proud display — remains of an ancient Roman road are visible in the cellar, intricately painted frescoes depicting European history adorn the restaurant’s curved ceilings, and an elegant red-carpeted staircase connects four levels lined in white marble. It’s a landmark that symbolizes old-world grandeur: apart from the updates you’d expect at any luxury hotel, no one’s experimenting with tradition here." - Tablet Hotels

The Grand Hotel Majestic is the finest example of five-star hospitality. The staff from front office to concierge, bellmen, valet were exceptionally attentive and efficient. Housekeeping and turn-down service excellent and well-timed to our comings and goings. Our suite was nicely furnished, well decorated, in good order and stocked with all the necessary amenities. Yes, there is road construction going on, but we did not hear it unless we went out on the balcony. The hotel has taken great pains to not have the construction affect guests and the staff has succeeded in doing so. The in-house restaurant Il Carracci was wonderful! The setting was beautiful and the service outstanding. Our compliments to the chef as we thoroughly enjoyed every course!|We will be happy to return to the Grand Hotel anytime!

A truly luxurious hotel and in the perfect location for exploring Bologna. A beautiful spacious room with every amenity you could wish for and spotlessly clean too. We overlooked the front of the hotel and the room was completely quiet despite tramway works in the Via dell'Indipendenza below. The public areas were also beautiful. All the staff were delightful, cheerful and always ready with a smile and to help in any way, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Breakfasts were amazing and again we were looked after beautifully. This was our second stay at the hotel and we would not stay anywhere else when visiting Bologna in the future. Definitely Perfetto.

We spent four nights in this great hotel, which is centrally located and is a short walk to Piazza Maggiore where everything is going on. Unfortunately, at the moment there are building works going on outside the hotel and car access to the hotel entrance is difficult. However, we found our way to the adjoining laneway and the doorman very helpfully came out to greet us and he took our bags and parked our car for us. The staff at Reception were also extremely helpful in their suggestions as to how to get to certain local attractions and for making reservations for us at three great restaurants. The bedroom, which looked out onto the main street and the neighbouring chiesa was very spacious and comfortable and the bathroom offered a full bath and a great shower. The breakfast buffet served in the lower ground floor was generous and the hostess and other staff were very friendly and attentive. The murals in the al fresco breakfast area were great, where the artist included some nice touches. We had some good hot cappuccinos in the lounge area downstairs. Unfortunately, the fine dining restaurant was under renovations during our stay.

Our stay here was flawless. We had the privilege of staying in the Presidential Suite which was absolutely exquisite. Beautifully decorated with fine antiques, gorgeous draperies , fabrics, rugs and chandeliers. The bath was marble everywhere. The staff from the valet that greeted us and took care of our car, to Mark at reception, to the wonderfully attentive servers at breakfast were all efficient, professional and friendly. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in charming Bologna.

With a little bit of research and nudging by our Amex platinum card (Grand Majestic is part of Hotels and Resorts), we decided to splurge and book the hotel for 4 nights in October while we visited our daughter studying abroad in Bologna. Our plan was to use this hotel as our home base while we traveled to other cities. The hotel staff was great about keeping our bigger luggage for a few nights while we explored Venice, Florence, Milan. When we returned for our second set of 2 nights, the hotel manager (I can’t remember his name), upgraded us to a suite. It was incredible. We also dined in the fine dining restaurant with our daughter and her friends. We got the chef’s tasting menu and it was amazing. The mortadella inspired course and lasagna were so good. All of it was so special. We’ve never traveled like this and while a hotel would normally be just somewhere we lay our heads, this hotel became part of our Italian experience. It’s located near the city square, great shopping and lovely, local, quality restaurants. It’s walking distance to the train station (about a mile), which was great in October. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We had planned to stay a little closer to the airport for our last night in Bologna since we were leaving at 4 am to go for an early flight, but we decided to stay a 5th night. The front desk knew of our plans and gave us a breakfast bag to go in the early morning when we checked out. Just so lovely. I won’t forget this great hotel anytime soon. It will continue to be a big part of our trip to Bologna and to Italy.

Extraordinary hotel in the absolute BEST location for exploring Bologna! The ambience is quiet elegance with exquisite details and friendly smiling faces greet you wherever you go in the hotel. But it is the truly exceptional customer service that makes your stay here so memorable! We had an extremely stressful situation upon our arrival at the hotel. We had lost our passports on the train to Bologna and realized it when we arrived. Through the extraordinary efforts of the General Manager, Tiberio Biondi and the Concierge, Julia, our passports were recovered! Julia was so diligent in pursuing all avenues with the train station management and staff. The passports were located on the train and were sent to Bologna on the next train back. We were so VERY fortunate and we cannot thank Julia and Tiberio enough for all their efforts! In addition to helping resolve what could have been a nightmare for us, we were upgraded to a Suite. What a beautiful resolution for us to a very scary day! It is apparent to us that this hotel prides itself on curating a truly remarkable experience for their customers. If you are looking for a beautiful hotel in the perfect location matched by extraordinary customer service, look no further. This is it.

Google
We had a flawless, outstanding stay at the Grand Hotel Majestic Gia Baglioni in Bologna..||As in most 5-star properties, the room was very impressive. As were the breakfasts.||The hotel's convenient location made it simple for my wife and I to explore numerous sights in Bologna.||But what we find most impressive about our stay was|the people. Whether they are were at the front desk, the hotel entrance, in the dining room, or taking care of our room, every individual we had contact with, did what they could to make sure we were happy. And that is something that is rarely experienced.||Barbara and Tom Ungar

Yelp
The power keeps shutting off. The heat cannot be turned off and I had to take multiple cold showers to cool down overnight (in November!). Due to poor air quality in Bologna, leaving windows open to cool down is not enjoyable (obv not hotel's fault). A stranger identified my room as theirs and they were let into the room while I slept. This is unforgivable. I wish the rooms had chain llocks on doors. Mold growing on hand shower wand. I thought spinach was coming out of my mouth, but no it is mold dropping off the hand shower. Hotel itself is clean and quirky in an old world way. Everyone working here is so kind and helpful, and I know they felt bad for letting someone into my room. Hey, mistakes happen and this is an old building, but letting a stranger into my room is terrifying. Finally, there were two of us in our suite, but every night only one chocolate on the bed!

Yelp
We were woken up by house keeping letting a stranger into our room at 9:30am. After the sleepless night, 2 power outages to the room, the heat turning on max remotely several times throughout the night, and then meeting a strange woman in my room while I'm just in boxers, it was a bad start to the stay here!! . Overall the stay improved but the first 24 hours sucked here... +Excellent location, minutes away from central square, across the street from a good grocery store, and dozens of restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops. Very walkable city location. +Room is quaint/historical. Many celebrities have stayed here decades ago, which is kind of fun to see their photos in the lobby bar. - Our room lost power twice the first day. - maid service let a stranger enter our room at 9:30am. Was a startling way to wake up... - Uncomfortably warm / No A/C / electrical issues -- you can see reviews going back 10-11 years about the A/C being out for repair. - some black mold in the shower on the shower wand crevasses; reminded me of gunk that might build up in a p-trap under your sink. I cleaned it for them with some hot water and hand towels. - Breakfast buffet wasn't good. Skip the buffet and get 0,85€ croissants across the street - they'll be fresh and sooo much better than the stale stuff in the buffet. Overall I ***love*** Bologna ***so much*** and this location is great, but we were uncomfortable here. We'll be back, but to a different hotel.

Yelp
Recently stayed 4 nights at Grand Hotel Majestic GB and it was the most perfect experience. All the staff is friendly, welcoming and attentive. The hotel is so beautiful and charming, you feel like you are royalty from another century. Our room was spacious and comfortable, beautifully decorated. The breakfast has everything you want and more. The restaurant I Carracci was one of the best meals we had. The location is perfect, close to everything. If you want to treat yourself stay here!!

Yelp
Great 5 night stay in June. Excellent Bologna location, just a minute walk from Piazza Maggiore. Very attentive and helpful staff, good buffet breakfast, comfortable bed, walk in rain shower and great on site restaurant (one of the best veal chops I've ever had). Finely appointed common areas and I enjoyed the touch of the exposed ancient Roman road.

Yelp
We spent two nights here in July during a longer trip in Italy. The location is spectacular right in the middle of the city and it is certainly the nicest hotel in Bologna. The service in the hotel was great. Our room was very large and grand but the spaces could use some updating. Serviceable gym. Breakfast was fine but not great. Again, this is your best option while in Bologna and it's a total experience but it's not what I would consider a 5 star hotel.

Yelp
Fantastic hotel right in city center. Walking distance to everything you could want. I had dinner in the restaurant, which I reviewed separately. I was in Bologna to celebrate my granddaughters graduation from the university of Bologna in maths. This is the place to stay in my opinion

Yelp
Two stars because it is a nice hotel with comfortable beds. Thats about it. It is certainly not a five star hotel, which it purports to be. We arrived around 8pm and advised reception that we needed to leave for the airport at five am. At some point reception advises that the booking was for one person and they had to charge us for the second. I have never heard of this! So for the extra person for our 8 hour stay, they wanted €100! What the hell for? I looked on a booking sight and showed the receptionist that I could still book a room (which would come with a free bottle of wine) for two people for exactly what I paid. Receptionist kept saying that it would be more if i booked through the hotel. Lets follow the logic here. Why would i book directly through the hotel if the same room is less on a booking sight? The most irritating part is that she kept laughing inappropriately for some unknown reason. The male receptionist kept insisting that the € 100 was for the "free" hot breakfast. We reminded him that we had to leave before breakfast was served. He assured us that there would be a cart full of food in the morning before we left. Long story short, that did not happen. There was a cart with coffee and a few pastries. But wait, there's more! The man at the reception in the morning told us that if we had asked, they would have made us breakfast. That would have been nice if it was ever suggested by reception at check in! A real five star hotel would have just taken the initiative to prepare the bagged breakfast for us given the conversation had the night before. I also enjoyed how the staff talked down to us insisting that a €100 per person euro fee is totally normal. Because I've never stayed in a hotel before! Thats sarcasm btw. Again, this certainly was not a five star experience. And just to compare apples to apples, we stayed at a four star hotel when we arrived in bologna 10 days earlier. It was 1/5 the cost, the staff much more accommodating and was just as comfortable and nice. So do yourself a favor and ignore the alleged five star rating and save your money and nerves by staying anywhere else.

Yelp
Rating explanation: the air conditioning malfunctioned in our room both nights. The hotel failed to adequately inform guests of the problem affecting the entire hotel. We only learned about the severity of the problem at 3am when my wife and I had enough of the sweltering humidity and abandoned opening the window because we already had been bitten by Mosquitos. There were several irate guests who asked the reception desk "why am I only being told this now, while I am checking out!" The hotel made no effort to refund or compensate the sleep deprived guests. My wife and I spent more than EUR300 per night and we slept 2 hours per night in total,15 minutes at a time. The bedding was luxurious and very comfortable; however, our bed was 2 twins mashed together with no dividing pad. Pillows and sheets were great but not good enough to compensate for the AC fiasco! This hotel gets 2 stars because the location is great and the breakfast is free and plentiful. I will never stay here again. I paid extra so my wife and could sleep well and in comfort. The AC situation was mismanaged and WE PAID THE PRICE!

Yelp
Pretty decent hotel bar although could do with a bit of an update. Drinks were well made and in terms of London pricing, given it was a 5 star hotel, the drink prices were very decent.
