The Grand provides everything you need for a very comfortable stay in Melbourne. The location is a close stroll to the train station with tram stops out front. Our room was very well equipped and spacious. Special mention to the fabulously comfortable bed. It’s the small touches that set The Grand apart, from the warmest of welcomes to chocolates and a hand written card with a pithy Oscar Wilde quote. When you are deeply immersed in the online array of choices, just remember, The Grand has it all and then a little bit more!

Old school charm with old school customer service ♥️ Stayed here for 2 nights and WOW what an experience. Met by the owner Denis outside who greeted us with open arms. Check in was easy and fast from the beautiful reception team. Walk into the room to see a lovely hand written card from Denis with some chocolates 🍫 ♥😍😍 The hallways are stunningly huge and yea if you've seen "the shinning" you'll love and appreciate these hallways. A must is to see the grand staircase on level 2, its just Devine. The room itself was perfect. Very comfy bed and everything we needed with full kitchen facilities. The indoor pool, spa, sauna and gym were also amazing. Location is absolutely perfect from Crown, Southern Cross Station and Marvel Stadium on your doorstep. Parking is also available on site for a reasonable rate. Do yourself a favour and visit

Absolutely Wonderful Stay! I had an amazing experience at this hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional. The room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. Everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and efficient. The location was perfect, with easy access to nearby attractions and restaurants. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the warm hospitality. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again!

Stayed a night here early November. What a beautiful old building and a great hotel. Close to everything you need. Only gripe is no shelf in the shower for soap or shampoo ( have to put it on the floor ) and no soap dish next to the basin ( have to leave soap in the basin or on the bench ) Would certainly stay there again but don't understand how two obvious necessities were not provided.

Great place to stay. Lovely architecture & history. Terrific location. We were upgraded to a loft apartment that was excellent for our needs. Very clean. The train and traffic noise can be a dull rumble but we did not find it disturbing.|Lovely helpful staff make this a very enjoyable experience.|We just love this building and being in it is an absolute pleasure.

This 1890's era hotel built originally for Victorian Railways really is grand with matching olden days customer service incl welcome chocolates. I was greeted and checked in by the owner himself Denis. I booked their smallest studio but because I paid early and booked directly I got a better price and they upgraded me to a much bigger room. Kitchenette enabled me to self cater and save money during this work trip. Coles Spencer St is about 700m walk away.

We stayed at The Grand Hotel Melbourne for PAX, and every member of the team was incredibly helpful, friendly, and accommodating. A special mention goes to Denis, the General Manager, who brightened the foyer each time we passed through and made us feel genuinely welcome.||Our room was comfortable and well-maintained, and we were delighted to find a handwritten welcome card waiting for us, accompanied by Lindt sweets and a thoughtful Oscar Wilde quote. It was a charming gesture that perfectly captured the hotel’s warmth and character.||If I had to make any criticism, it would only be that the hallways could use a more frequent vacuum, as a small pile of breadcrumbs lingered on our level for the duration of our stay.||As Wilde himself once wrote, “I can resist everything except temptation,” and The Grand Hotel certainly tempts us to return. A fantastic experience overall, and we’ll happily be back next year.

Didn’t have the best first impression, but wow it turned around fast! The rooms are huge, beds are super comfy, and the place has so much old-school charm. I hit the gym one morning (small but had what I needed), and there was no water, i was dying of thirst. Denis at reception noticed me looking like I’d just run a marathon, and later left two bottles of water in my room. Totally didn’t have to, but that gesture really stuck with me. He even left a handwritten welcome card and some Lindt chocolates, it’s the little things that make you feel looked after. Also, how Denis remembers everyone’s name is beyond me, but it makes such a difference. He genuinely cares, and that shines through. It’s an old building, but they’ve done such a great job keeping it full of character. Would absolutely stay here again!

Yelp
I was excited to be having a mid-week mini break in a hotel (is there anything more decadent that staying in a hotel in your own city?) but when arriving at the Grand Hotel I was a little saddened by it's lackluster and almost creepy vibe. An amazing piece of Melbourne's architecture is let down on the inside and could really use a bit of a freshen up. The room itself was massive, loft style, with the bedroom and bathroom upstairs and a little sitting area and kitchenette downstairs. I imagine if you're coming to town for a couple of weeks on business this would be a good option, but roaming the gigantic corridors at night would be a little spooky. It's a shame there's not some art on the walls in the grand corridors. They are beautiful within their own right but could use a little extra "something" to make it feel homely.

Yelp
I recently spent a few nights at the Grand for New Years. I'd stayed ages ago when I was at Uni. We were out with a bunch of mates and thought it'd be fun. This time around, it was really for a bunch of different reasons: I thought it'd be fun to get away from my apartment for a few days, I figured it'd also be more convenient and a nice change spending NYE in the city. You know what? I liked it and I think I might do it once in a while from now on. It's nice and relaxing to mix it up a little bit. Now.. back to the hotel itself. Well it's quite pricey, there's no reason to lie about it because it is. Some also find it old but I like to think of it as being historic and, in truth, it is a beautiful piece building. We had a studio w/ a self contained kitchen - all the bits and bobs included so cutleries, plates, microwave, fridge, stove etc. The door to the room opens up to the lounge which is up 2 steps. The bathroom and bedroom are upstairs, with the latter being quite small... 2 single beds in and there's no space at all to move around. The standard of the room is reflective of the age of the hotel in some ways and the room could use a makeover at some stage - make it more vibrant and add some modern-feel to it. They have valet parking and they charge about $35 per night on top. To sum it up, it's quite pricey yes, it's old some would say and the rooms could use a bit of an uplift for sure. It's conveniently located though - a short stroll across the Yarra and you're at Crown plus Southern Cross Station is literally a 3 mins walk. I will certainly consider it for my next getaway.

Yelp
Perhaps the worst hotel I've stayed at in decades. First, those ads on their web page are totally misleading. The elegant staircase that appears to be leading into a large opulent lounge/lobby...isn't. It's actually a stair case in one of their more pricey suites. The hotel actually has no real lobby...just a few desks stuck in a hallway leading to the elevators. And their swimming pool that appears to be indoors is actually outside and subject to the weather elements. When escorted to our room on arrival, the clerk/bellhop/concierge opened the door as we schlepped our own bags inside, handed us the key, and left. No "guided tour" of the room amenities (and no tip either). As a consequence, we had to find light switches, extra bedding, laundry bags, air conditioning controls, and such on our own. We soon discovered a room so tiny that we had to move the desk chair to a far corner so we could get around the bed and go into the bathroom. And, get this, there were only four...four... usable drawers to put our clothes in for the nine nights stay. What were they thinking...four drawers? Then things went from bad to worse. As we stood there in our tiny room, we heard jets flying overhead. Then a couple of minutes later, more jets...this lasted for minutes. Then on an inspiration I checked outside through our room balcony glass door (which was permanently sealed by the way). Ah ha...that roar is not from jets, but from the metro train rumbling through town just outside our window every two to three minutes. The only saving grace here is that they stopped running during the wee hours of the day; so we did have some quiet while sleeping. Their ads on the web made their own restaurant sound ideal. As seasoned travelers we know having food available from within the hotel is important to us. But the restaurant was very very expensive, even by Aussie standards, and it had no lunch menu. It had a very limited breakfast menu and a modest dinner menu, but nothing for in between. But the food was excellent; just the choices were limited. Bottom line, the only real good things about the Grand Hotel Melbourne are its location and a friendly staff. It is ideally located to get to just about anything in downtown Melbourne, including the Crown Casino that's just across the Yarra River from the hotel and the central train station just up the street. I would not recommend this hotel at any price.
