Some may complain this doesn't qualify as a grand hotel, which is more exactly to mean if not to say that it is not exactly a "grande" hotel. it's a fairly plain bit of architecture from outside and the entrance is understated. certainly no doorman or guys to help you with your luggage. ok you can have all that somewhere else maybe if that kind of thing makes for "grande" in your book. But in this town, and having spent more than my share of nights in parts of europe not so often traveled, you want proximity and functionality. this hotel is located directly across the street from the hauptbahnhof which takes 12 minutes and 4 euros to get from the airport. the staff is imminently friendly and helpful in every way. but the selling point if that doesn't make it for you so far are the rooms. very large, well appointed and everything works. lots of hot water, plenty of electrical outlets, and the shower plays classical music while you work. breakfast is the typical groaning board of everything you might want. our room faced the square directly in front of the hotel which at christmas is quite colorful. the inner rooms are charming in their own way, rather lacking in that ever-popular view of the hvac equipment, which of course i was glad not to see.
i'd say if you have reason to come to hannover, which is not normally on the american guidebooks of hotspots in germany, you'll want to start here. decompress for an extra day after the flight before you head on north or east which is our direction next. all in all this is the place to begin.
