Grand Hotel National Luzern

My stay at the Grand Hotel National was truly enjoyable. The hotel itself is a historic landmark with fantastic architecture, which adds a unique charm from the moment you arrive. The rooms are beautiful, very comfortable and offer a great view of the lake. Everything is spotless and well maintained.||The staff deserve special praise. Everyone I met, from the reception team to the restaurant staff and the housekeeping team, was exceptionally kind, attentive and professional. Their approach really made the stay feel welcoming.||The hotel bar is another highlight, with excellent cocktails and live piano music that creates a very pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast is rich, tasty and served in a lovely setting.||Overall, a high quality hotel and an easy recommendation for anyone visiting Lucerne.

Came for my son’s birthday in November. Everyone and everything were beyond royalty. Perfect for family. It was literally the best hotel i stayed in my life. Food menus offered good choices and prices were good cause snack menu was really a lot of choices for any budget. The staff were too wonderful to be real. Pool water really warm and everything was like a fairytale. I recommend to stay over cause the time went by too fast. I recommend and return in April again. Also the room was so clean it smelt brand new. Bed were so soft and comfy we were so sad to leave. I give this place 200 stars. Best hotel in my life

A beautiful welcome - the male receptionist was just brilliant - knowledgeable, helpful and he really understood the art of the 'welcome'. Got to our room and it was nice but a let down. Stated that it was a room with a 'view' - it was actually a view of the ugly building over the busy next door. The room was small and well appointed. Old TV. The bathroom was good. The corridors look incredibly dated albeit well maintained and throughout our entire stay the service was just exceptional. Would I stay here again? Maybe.... Would I recommend? If you are over 65 then yes. If under that then maybe choose something slight more current. A big thank you though.

Our two-night stay at Grand Hotel National was an enjoyable experience and a great second leg to our honeymoon. ||The location of the hotel is excellent, right on the lake and close proximity to the city centre and train station, but still very quiet.||We stayed in a 'deluxe lake view' room, which was spacious, elegantly styled and had a stunning view of the lake - would definitely recommend booking this room. However we noticed that the walls were a bit thin and it was quite noisy whenever the adjacent rooms were being cleaned and doors were shut.||On the first night we had drinks and some food at the hotel's bar, which was excellent - would highly recommend. ||Throughout our stay the hotel staff were generally very friendly and attentive, however we did experience some lengthy delays when we asked room service to deliver wine glasses to our room. ||Overall, we found this hotel to be excellent value for the location.

For this much money, this should have been perfect. We booked the same price point room as our friends, and their room was far superior to ours and had a better welcome tray. Hotel would not change ours to a lower rate, although they did offer a different room after we unpacked. We were exhausted, and really didn't want to change. The ac unit was behind the curtains, so the room couldn't cool off properly. Tiny hair dryer. A slippery tub (we found out after the fact that you could ask for a bath mat... One was not in the room. How would you know unless you slipped and felt unsafe). Also, inadequate electrical outlets. For a hotel this pricey, I was expecting a bit more. PS... The mattress needed to be replaced as it was so worn, we both rolled to the middle.

I stayed here from |16 to 19 December 2025 |Erin & Mary were lovely, friendly and very helpful as were the rest of the staff, who sang happy birthday to me at Reception the next morning and the special surprise I had delivered to my room (chocolate eclair) by one of the staff, they were helpful with my luggage and for finding my way around town.|My room was amazing & lovely with a view of Lake Lucerne, a good variety of breakfast to choose from fruit, cereals, yoghurt or cooked. |I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I recommend staying here for any occasion or to spoil yourself for any occasion or afternoon tea.|Thank you very much to all staff for making my birthday special and my stay memorable.|Many blessings to you all with warmest regards|Michelle Williams

Very nice hotel with beautiful rooms and views of Lake Luzern. The hotel is excellent value for the location and the grandeur; it was spectacular. The spa could do with a revamp but it is still very nice and the walls were a bit thin.

This was an amazing hotel for Lake Lucerne. Recommend upgrading to a lake view. They were super helpful with organizing our trip to Mt. Pilatus and you can book it directly with the hotel. Pool was nice, a bit chilly, and the sauna wasn’t very hot, but we also did not have to pay additional fees to use it. The breakfast on site was good, but it’s expensive. Welcome drinks, walkable to many restaurants and shopping.

We dined in the Brassiere Juliette inside the Grand National Hotel and it was an outstanding meal with wonderful service. The promenade and outdoor seating is beautiful with views of the lake. Inside you will find the opulence of the late 19th century, high ceilings, exquisite furnishings and an amazing experience for a drink or dinner. We had a shareable meal with various courses and the steak frites were a team favorite. The risotto with goat cheese and beet was also outstanding. It was truly an unforgettable evening and thank you for the culinary excellence and service!

Enjoyed a sunny light lunch lakeside in Lucern at Juliette's Sharing Brasserie. The service was great, and you can't beat the lakeside setting. Started with Aperol spritz, which were superbly crafted, and had the grilled shrimp, tomato salad with buratta, and pommes allummettes. The shrimp was tender and tasty, served with a delicious crusty garlic bread. The salad was light and flavorful, perfect. The fries were hot and salty, as they should be.

Management allows loud events to take place in room on first floor well into morning hours. Unconcerned regarding noise and impact on other customers' comfort. It is a beautiful place in a beautiful location. Unfortunately, I am utterly disgusted with being treated with such lack of concern for health, etc. especially with the price you pay to stay here. Explore other options.

Incredible hotel! We were here celebrating our 30th and they upgraded us to the most amazing corner suite with balconies and beautiful views of Lake Lucerne. Everyone we came in contact with was very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed breakfast every morning and the small plates and drinks at Juliette were excellent! I would absolutely stay here again!!!

We selected this hotel based on the location and reviews on Hotels.com. Located in Lucerne, Switzerland right on the water, our room had gorgeous views of the city. We upgraded to a room with a small terrace which was very pleasant when we had our breakfast and dinner (room service). In general, room service in Europe is considerably better than anything you would get in the states and The Grand National was on par with other hotels on our journey. The staff was very accommodating and very polite. This is an older hotel that maintains a lot of the charm that you would expect. We would definitely return to the Grand National when we visit Switzerland again.

One of the most beautiful bars and locations in the city. Had a coffee for 4.80 SFr, probably less expensive than with Starbucks, and could recharge my mobile phone there, to keep the memory of a rainy evening at this wonderful place.

It is impossible to adequately express how wonderful this hotel is, but I'll try. The views are nothing short of breathtaking, located as it is along the promenade on Lake Luzern. The hotel itself is elegant and lovely; the rooms are sizable, full of charm and equipped with all the modern conveniences. Everything is immaculate. And the staff, well, all of them are wildly efficient, solicitous and kind. You can't ask for a better location; you're in the heart of the city but still off the beaten path right there on the water where it's quiet and serene. Luzern is gorgeous and will always beckon; so will the Grand Hotel National.

Great place to stay in Luzern right on the lake and a few blocks from the old city area. Walking distance to many great restaurants, shops, and attractions. Casino is right next door for those interested as well. Service here has been excellent and the accommodations are very good. Highly recommend .

Cigar friendly very nice hotel. Old world charm, great service and fantastic views.

we were 3 people waiting for our main course. only 2 of the courses came out on time together and our third person had to wait around 20 min for her food to arrive. Which meant our food got cold whole waiting and the only thing that was offered for free was one coffee. there were around 4 other tables with people otherwise it went empty. the serive needs to improve greatly if this should be one of the best hotels in Switzerland. We should have gotten our food in time so we could enjoy lunch together.
